  • Effect of 'myObj = [[[[MyClass alloc] init] autorelease] retain];'?

    - by filipe
I've just downloaded the Facebook iOS SDK and I noticed that in the sample code that comes with the SDK whenever it creates an instance of the Facebook class it does it like this: _facebook = [[[[Facebook alloc] init] autorelease] retain]; where _facebook is a member variable of the calling object (i.e. not a local variable). Can anyone explain exactly what's the point of autoreleasing and then retaining it?

  • Which is the UI technology of the future considering: eye-candy-effect, interactivity (gestures, voc

    - by user193655
If you had to write a next-gen application, in which on the surface (UI) you need some "futuristic features", by considering the following aspects which is the choice you'd make? 1) eye-candy: cool UI, 3D, Effects, nice graphics, sound transitions... 2) user interaction: not only mouse and keyboard but touch, voice and more.... + user interactivity aspect, which is the technology you'd choose? 3) X-platform: this is to have some X-platform discussion. Of course single platform technologies (as WPF) have may be some more power, anyway in a general discussion considering X-platform as a resource is important 4) available components: of course the coolest technology with no available components is may be an option for a component developer but not for an application developer My question is generic, but anyway * have in mind data-driven apps, not pure multimedia apps, videogames, ....

  • jQuery youtube dimming effect

    - by Lakshman Prasad
On some pages youtube uses "Turn off the lights" feature. The same can be done in jQuery. Example The example dims the entire page background but the video player remains on the top. Why is it so? And what is the simplest way to dim all divs except the video one explicitly?

  • Modifications in default document won't take effect

    - by Wilson
We have a website developed by ASP.NET+IIS7 and its default document is default.aspx. It works fine. But when we tried to switch the default to index.html, weird things happened. We have modified web.config as follows: <defaultDocument> <files> <clear /> <add value="index.html" /> </files> </defaultDocument> and we have clear everything under C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files``, and restart the worker process. We even changed the name of Default.aspx to dddd.aspx. But everything stays the same when accessing with http://localhost/<MyAppName>/! And when we tried to access with http://localhost/<MyAppName>/index.html, it works fine. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

  • Strange Effect with Overridden Properties and Reflection

    - by naacal
I've come across a strange behaviour in .NET/Reflection and cannot find any solution/explanation for this: Class A { public string TestString { get; set; } } Class B : A { public override string TestString { get { return "x"; } } } Since properties are just pairs of functions (get_PropName(), set_PropName()) overriding only the "get" part should leave the "set" part as it is in the base class. And this is just what happens if you try to instanciate class B and assign a value to TestString, it uses the implementation of class A. But what happens if I look at the instantiated object of class B in reflection is this: PropertyInfo propInfo = b.GetType().GetProperty("TestString"); propInfo.CanRead ---> true propInfo.CanWrite ---> false(!) And if I try to invoke the setter from reflection with: propInfo.SetValue("test", b, null); I'll even get an ArgumentException with the following message: Property set method not found. Is this as expected? Because I don't seem to find a combination of BindingFlags for the GetProperty() method that returns me the property with a working get/set pair from reflection.

  • SetWindowPos has not effect on tooltip

    - by YoungPony
Hello, I am trying to give my ComboBox an in place tooltip for long strings. However when I call SetWindowPos on the tooltip, the position is never changed. Called when TTN_SHOW is received: ::SetWindowPos(textTooltip, NULL, TipRect.left, TipRect.top, 0, 0, SWP_NOSIZE | SWP_NOACTIVATE | SWP_NOZORDER); If I remove the SWP_NOSIZE flag and pop in some values into the width/height, then the combo box changes size to these values but the position remains the same. SetWindowPos always returns TRUE. The tip is initialised like so: textTooltip = CreateWindowEx(WS_EX_TRANSPARENT, TOOLTIPS_CLASS, NULL, TTS_NOPREFIX, 0, 0, 0, 0, this->GetSafeHwnd(), NULL, NULL, NULL); if(!textTooltip) return; ZeroMemory(&ToolInfo, sizeof(TOOLINFO)); ToolInfo.cbSize = sizeof(TOOLINFO); ToolInfo.uFlags = TTF_TRANSPARENT | TTF_SUBCLASS; ToolInfo.hwnd = this->GetSafeHwnd(); ToolInfo.lpszText = "place holder"; //set in OnSelectChangeOk ToolInfo.uId = 0; ToolInfo.rect = TipRect; //rect is re-set in OnSelectChangeOk ::SendMessage(textTooltip, TTM_ADDTOOL, 0, (LPARAM)&ToolInfo); Am I missing something?

  • structDelete doesn't effect the shallow copy?

    - by Travis
I was playing around onError so I tried to create an error using a large xml document object. <cfset variables.XMLByRef = variables.parsedXML.XMLRootElement.XMLChildElement> <cfset structDelete(variables.parsedXML, "XMLRootElement")> <cfset variables.startXMLShortLoop = getTickCount()> <cfloop from = "1" to = "#arrayLen(variables.XMLByRef)#" index = "variables.i"> <cfoutput>#variables.XMLByRef[variables.i].id.xmltext#</cfoutput><br /> </cfloop> <cfset variables.stopXMLShortLoop = getTickCount()> I expected to get an error because I deleted the structure I was referencing. From LiveDocs: Variable Assignment - Creates an additional reference, or alias, to the structure. Any change to the data using one variable name changes the structure that you access using the other variable name. This technique is useful when you want to add a local variable to another scope or otherwise change a variable's scope without deleting the variable from the original scope. instead I got 580df1de-3362-ca9b-b287-47795b6cdc17 25a00498-0f68-6f04-a981-56853c0844ed ... ... ... db49ed8a-0ba6-8644-124a-6d6ebda3aa52 57e57e28-e044-6119-afe2-aebffb549342 Looped 12805 times in 297 milliseconds <cfdump var = "#variables#"> Shows there's nothing in the structure, just parsedXML.xmlRoot.xmlName with the value of XMLRootElement. I also tried <cfset structDelete(variables.parsedXML.XMLRootElement, "XMLChildElement")> as well as structClear for both. More information on deleting from the xml document object. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Developing/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec22c24-78e3.html Can someone please explain my faulty logic? Thanks.

  • UIComponent's width and height have no effect on Sprite

    - by flexwheel
Given this code: var circle:Sprite = new Sprite(); circle.graphics.beginFill(0xFFCC00); circle.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 20); var uiComp:UIComponent = new UIComponent(); uiComp.x = 100; uiComp.y = 100; uiComp.measuredHeight = 0; uiComp.measuredWidth = 0; uiComp.addChild(circle); addChild(uiComp); Why does changing the width and height of uiComp not affect the Sprite? Wouldn't UIComponent provide Sprite with a Graphics object, which limits that area where Sprite can draw?

  • side effect of zsh echo?

    - by Mirai
For some reason this script will work with all of the 'echo's at the end, but without them $wall is an empty string. This seems like really odd behaviour. #!/bin/zsh if [ ! -n "$1" ] ; then files=(~/pictures/backgrounds/*jpg) else while [ $1 ] ; do files+=(`echo $1/*jpg`) shift done fi echo $files N=${#files} echo $N ((N=RANDOM%N)) echo $N wall=${files[$N]} echo $wall cp $wall ~/wall.jpg

  • Bootstrap-Switch options don't take effect

    - by Linda Keating
I'm using Bootstrap-Switch and the documentation says that options can be passed as an object on initialization. enter link description here And here is a list of options: enter link description here So my code looks like this: var options = { onText: "Yes", onColor: 'primary', offColor: 'danger', offText: "No", animate: true, }; $("[name='radioGroup1']").bootstrapSwitch(options); And it all switch works fine, but none of the defaults are overwritten by the options. Anybody got any examples of how this might work? Thanks

  • C# Drag and Drop Effect with Overlay/Opaque Image

    - by CallMeLaNN
Hi, I think this would be simple question and should be asked in the pas few years but unable to google around and dont know if there is a specific keyword. In c# WinForm I want to do drag and drop but I dont want the image of DragDropEffects Move, Copy or whatever. I want to display an image with half opaque. Just like Firefox when dragging an image, you would see the image folowing the mouse pointer like a ghost :) I already Implement DoDragDrop, DragEnter and DragDrop events. I just want to customize the dragging effects with overlay image.

  • Any side effect of not using USES_CONVERSION

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
    Recently, I have a utilities function of // T2CA #include "ATLCONV.H" std::string Utils::CString2String(const CString& cString) { #if _MSC_VER > 1200 // Convert a TCHAR string to a LPCSTR // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input CT2CA tmp(cString); std::string strStd (tmp); #else // Deprecated in VC2008. // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input std::string strStd (T2CA (cString)); #endif return strStd; } I do several simple test it seems work fine. However, when I google around, I see most usage of T2CA in VC6, before they call, they will invoke USES_CONVERSION; Is there any thing I had missed out? Shall I invoke my function by : #else // Deprecated in VC2008. // construct a std::string using the LPCSTR input USES_CONVERSION; std::string strStd (T2CA (cString)); #endif

  • Replace a DIV with another using effect and set cookie

    - by Alex
Hi. I've got some complicated requirements and wondered if there's a way to accomplish this via jQuery: User comes to a web page for the first time today and we show DIV_1. After 30 seconds, we dissolve DIV_1 to DIV_2. We set a cookie on the user's machine that expires when s/he returns tomorrow. If the same user returns today, we only show DIV_2. Tomorrow, we repeat the process: The user will see DIV_1 and then it dissolves to DIV_2. How do you accomplish this via jQuery? Thank you.

  • Performance side effect with static internal Util classes?

    - by Fostah
For a util class that contains a bunch of static functionality that's related to the same component, but has different purposes, I like to use static internal classes to organize the functionality, like so: class ComponentUtil { static class Layout { static int calculateX(/* ... */) { // ... } static int calculateY(/* ... */) { // ... } } static class Process { static int doThis(/* ... */) { // ... } static int doThat(/* ... */) { // ... } } } Is there any performance degradation using these internal classes vs. just having all the functionality in the Util class?
