• Getting sourcecontrol on stored procedures

  First off the technical stuff: We're using VS 2008 pro and running a MS SQL 2008 server. For sourcecontrol we use Subversion. We'd really like to keep our stored procedures in subversion, so we can tell what was changed, when and so forth. However in order for this to work, it has to be seamless, otherwise the developers are just going to forget getting the procedures included in their commits. So are there any good solutions for this ? I'm certain we can't be the only company with this issue :-)

• How are deleted and renamed/moved files handled when merging a feature branch with trunk and reinteg

  I've got a big-ish project that needs a lot of work on a new feature, so I planned on using a branch to do this work. I haven't had to do this before, and I just wanted to get assurance from an experienced Subversion user that things "should" work smoothly. What I'm especially concerned with is how well Subversion handles deleted, renamed/moved files between a branch and the trunk. That is, if multiple files are deleted or renamed/moved in the branch, but those files continue to be used and receive changes in the trunk, will merges with the trunk still proceed without a hitch (reworking the branch, of course, as necessary)? Also, when I then reintegrate the branch with the trunk, if the files differ greatly in name (or existence) between the trunk and branch, will the reintegration be difficult? Will the files deleted (moved) in the branch now be deleted (moved) in the trunk, or will files linger and conflicts emerge? The SVN book didn't clear up these questions for me, so your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

• CDN with South America peering points / edge nodes

  Hello, Does anyone one know of a CDN (Content Delivery Network) with true South American peering points or edge nodes? This seems to be quite rare. It seems that most CDNs serve Central and South America from Texas. However, our application requires low latency in Brazil, so this is not a good solution for us. We would like to avoid having to set up servers in South America just for this piece of the application, but may end up doing that. Thanks, Bill

  I am developing an Android app, it will connect to the internet to load some data back. I tested it with WIFI and it works well. But when I switched to use EDGE/GPRS, it always timed out, I have set a big timeout parameter for httpclient, but it did not help. Anyone have experienced this before?

• frequently merge changes between branch and trunk?

  My team and I are using svn branches for the first time. Before, we use to work only from the trunk. Over the past 2 weeks, we've been refactoring and developing new code against our branch. But during that time, another developer has been making bug fixes to code in the trunk and deploying it to the production server. We would like to frequently "update" our branch with changes from the trunk to make sure we get the latest fixes. But the problem is that we're making drastic changes to our branch, and many files have been renamed. I have a feeling every "update" we do on our branch that takes changes from trunk will cause a conflict, unless we some how get subversion to recognise that fileA.html in trunk is really fileB.html in branch. Am I using subversion branches correctly? Am I using the word "update" correctly? Are frequent "updates" in branch advisable?

• Is Subversion(SVN) supported on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32bit?

  I've setup subversion on Ubuntu 10.04, but can't get authentication to work. I believe all my config files are setup correctly, However I keep getting prompted for credentials on a SVN CHECKOUT. Like there is an issue with apache2 talking to svnserve. If I allow anonymous access checkout works fine. • Deploying website content via Subversion

  we have recently set up a new development infrastructure and process for one of our clients. This involves the strict use of subversion as a central source code repository. The svn repositories contains a seperate branch for code on the live system (/branches/live/). The repositories are use for PHP content (mainly Wordpress Blogs), but in future they may hold other asp code as well. Bonus points for a solutions which more or less in the same way with ASP code on Windows Server 2008 R2. We have two servers: one staging system and one live system. The staging system is updated regularly with the code of the trunk. The live system is update manually. Each webroot on the servers are working copy of either the trunk (staging system) or the live branch (live system). The current workflow is: Developing on the dev's box - commit into the trunk - auto-deploy on staging system - testing on the staging system - merging into /branches/live/ - manual deployment on live system. This works for one-way changes very well, however we have some troubles on every wordpress (or plugin) update: The WP update process removes the directories and unpack the archive of the new version. This removes the svn admin area as well, which produces a lot of errors. We could switch to SVN 1.7 with a single, global admin area, but this would only solve on part of the problem. Finally, we have done the update via the WP Gui, restored the svn admin area, added/removed the files and committed the changes to the trunk. After testing, we had to do basically the same thing on the live server (except the commit, we just reverted the changes and merged the new files from the staging system to the live system). I'm currently thinking of the following: The htdocs of each website is a svn export Each website has a svn working copy beside the htdocs directory a script which "replays" the changes in the wc from htdocs after an update in WP (rsync'ing the changed files to the working copy, rsync'ing new files and svn add them and finally svn delete the deleted files). The script would have to exclude some files (like wp-config.php, uploads/temp directories, etc.). Are there better ways to do this? Unfortunaly, a complete CI server is out of scope due to time and budget limitations.

I have done this before when I have access to the server by creating a network share and using Google desktop. I currently do not have access to this subversion server box. Any Ideas?   It seems that all of the initial Google results for "using subversion with xcode" are actually just tutorials for installing and configuring svn and Xcode, as opposed to actually using the two (i.e. interacting with svn via Xcode's GUI). Is anyone aware of a good guide that teaches the tricks and pitfalls of working with svn via Xcode's GUI? Something that bridges the gap between the most excellent Version Control with Subversion book and the Xcode IDE (as in pure Xcode GUI without any terminal command use)? Edit: We all love our terminal commands, and we all love Eclipse but (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) neither is really the point of the question. I’d prefer to use svn via Xcode’s IDE instead of via terminal just as I prefer (well, for this case) to code in Xcode’s IDE instead of using vim and gcc. Apple engineers spent a good bit of time implementing that SCM menu in Xcode; someone has to have seen a usage guide somewhere.

I want to know if SVNImporter or any other tool out there helps me migrate my UCM VOBs to Subversion repos. I dont mind losing some history. Also please share your strategies if there are no tools out there. I was told by someone that I would have to rebase my view with each baseline from oldest to the newest and incrementally commit that code into Subversion. While this seems to be plain and simple but considering the number of VOBs we have here, this would be a gigantic task for us to do manually.   Hi, I have a scenario in my project where I need to share a single file between multiple projects in the same solution. Back in my Visual Source Safe days (Shudder), I'd use the "Share" option to allow me to make changes to this file in any of the locations. Then once it was checked in I could guarantee that the other locations will get the update. I'm trying to do this in Subversion but I can't seem to find the option anywhere. I do know about svn:externals however I'm only interested in sharing a single file between multiple locations. Does anyone know how to do this in Subversion? Thanks

  Hi all, What is the best way to transfer changes that include new and deleted directories and/or new and deleted (actually moved) files in those directories from a subversion repository on linux to windows? I do my developments on linux using a subversion repository, but I have to test my changes on windows as well. My windows machine has a tortoisesvn repository which I tried to patch with a svn diff output. This failed miserably since my patch contains a renamed (i.e. deleted and added under a different name) directory, a new directory and the files in there. Do I do things wrong by just applying the svn diff output as a patch in tortoisesvn? For now I think that my best option is to have the windows tree on the same svn version as the linux tree and just copy the entire changed directory over the existing directory. Would that work?

• Boost graph libraries: setting edge weight values

  I am investigating the use of the boost graph libraries in order to apply them to various network problems I have in mind. In the examples I have been looking at the graph edge values ("weights") are always initialized as integers, such as in these Bellman-Ford and Kruskal algorithms eg: int weights[] = { 1, 1, 2, 7, 3, 1, 1, 1 }; My problem is if I try and change the weights to double, I get a heap of warning messages about conversions etc, which so far I have not been able to figure out how to overcome. Does anyone see a way around this?

• Capture Flash Audio in 4.7 Edge?

  Is there a way to capture plugin (Flash) audio before it gets to the sound card? I'd like to record plugin audio, hopefully without actually playing the sound. Capturing audio at the device level is an absolute last resort, as the application would pick up all system audio rather than just the Webkit plugin. I'm aware of the recent switch back from QTMultimedia; is this possible with phonon? I spent the night looking for some way to access the phonon graph via QWebFrame (or any of the QtWebkit widgets) -- and didn't turn up much. I also started digging through QTWebkit, particularly NPAPI, without success. For reference, I'm using the edge version of 4.7 (6aa50af000f85cc4497749fcf0860c8ed244a60e) This seems to be a fairly challenging problem. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to have them progressive loaded form my website using HTML5 video tag. video_big.mp4 encoded for iOS on Wifi H.264 Baseline, 25fps, 640x480, 500kbps video_small.mp4 encoded for iOS on Edge/3G H.264 Baseline, 25fps, 320x240, 56kbps My question is: How can I write the HTML5 video tag to serve video_big.mp4 to iOS devices that connected through Wifi, and serve video_small.mp4 to iOS devices that connected through Edge/3G? • Align text with right edge of an html form

  I have an html form where the width of a textarea is specified with cols=. I want the textarea to have a specific width in terms of number of characters. However, I also want some controls to be right-justified to the right edge of the textarea. They're not in the textarea, but directly above or below it. Is it possible to do this? I was thinking a possible approach might be enclosing the textarea with some type of container that could grow to the width of the textarea, but I'm not sure how I could right-justify text within that.

• Subversion 1.7 on 12.04 precise: libsasl error, compiling from source?

  Background: I am a longtime Gentoo user, and this is my first time using Ubuntu (installed on a VM to avoid compiling everything from scratch). I am familiar with a Linux environment but somewhat unfamiliar with Ubuntu. I am trying to install Subversion 1.7 on Ubuntu and saw this post: Where can I find a Subversion 1.7 binary? The above post recommends using the PPA ppa:dominik-stadler/subversion-1.7. I also found the PPA ppa:svn/ppa from another link. They both cause problems for me. The issue is that any svn operation using the remote server causes the following error: svn: E170001: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn+ssh://my_repo' svn: E170001: Could not create SASL context: generic failure: No such file or directory This seems to arise from a recent bug involving SVN dependency on the libsasl library, as documented by Debian users here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=683555 and also Mac users here: https://trac.macports.org/ticket/34861 Resolution seems to involve either updating the cyrus-sasl or libsasl library to a newer version (neither of which is in the latest apt packages), or compiling subversion without SASL support. As a Gentoo user I started looking into how to compile svn from source, but it looks way more complicated on Ubuntu than I'm used to and I'm not sure what the canonical way is. My questions: Is there an obvious fix for this problem that I am overlooking? Is there a way to update the dependencies for SVN to something that works through using synaptic or apt-get? If I want to compile from scratch, how do I use the sources in the PPA instead of downloading my own source copy (i.e. the PPA has both binary and sources?)

• How to draw a circle in java with a radius and points around the edge

  Hi, I'm really stuck on how to go about programming this. I need to draw a circle within a JFrame with a radius and points around the circumference. i can mathematically calculate how to find the coordinates of the point around the edge but i cant seem to be able to program the circle. I am currently using a Ellipse2D method but that doesn't seem to work and doesn't return a radius, as under my understanding, it doesn't draw the circle from the center rather from a starting coordinate using a height and width. • How can I dial GPRS/EDGE in Win CE

  Hello all. I am developing application in python on Windows CE which needs connection to the internet (via GPRS/EDGE). When I turn on the device, the internet connection is not active. It becomes active if I open internet explorer. I would like to activate connection in my application. I'm trying to do this with RasDial function over ctypes library, but I can't get it to work. Is this the right way or I should do something else? Below is my current code. The ResDial function keeps returning error 87 – Invalid parameter. I don't know anymore what is wrong with it. I would really appreciate any kind of help.
