  • PHP / MYSQL: Sanitizing user input - is this a bad idea?

    - by Greg
    I have one "go" script that fetches any other script requested and this is what I wrote to sanitize user input: foreach ($_REQUEST as $key => $value){ if (get_magic_quotes_gpc()) $_REQUEST[$key] = mysql_real_escape_string(stripslashes($value)); else $_REQUEST[$key] = mysql_real_escape_string($value); } I haven't seen anyone else use this approach. Is there any reason not to? EDIT - amended for to work for arrays: function mysql_escape($thing) { if (is_array($thing)) { $escaped = array(); foreach ($thing as $key => $value) { $escaped[$key] = mysql_escape($value); } return $escaped; } // else if (get_magic_quotes_gpc()) $thing = stripslashes($thing); return mysql_real_escape_string($thing); } foreach ($_REQUEST as $key => $value){ $_REQUEST[$key] = mysql_escape($value); }

  • clearing cin input? cin.ignore not a good way?

    - by igor
What's a better way to clear cin input? I thought cin.clear and cin.ignore was a good way...? code: void clearInput() { cin.clear(); cin.ignore(1000,'\n'); //cin.ignore( std::numeric_limits<streamsize>::max(), '\n' ); } My teacher gave me this reply... this is basically saying that your clearInput doesn't work FYI: ignore is NEVER a good idea as a way of getting rid of all that remains on a line and your failing this test is exactly the reason why now go clear it the correct way

  • How do I copy input from one textbox to another via checkbox using jQuery?

    - by Jesse
I'm cleaning up a simple form that has a Start Date textbox and an End Date textbox. I want to add a checkbox in between these fields that the user can check if the End Date is the same as the Start Date, so when they check it, the Start Date input value (e.g., 04/01/09) will automagically appear in the End Date textbox, so they don't have to type in the same date twice. Does that make sense? BTW, I'm using the sexy jquery datepicker UI, and it's sweet, but I just can't figure out the above problem. I know there's a simple solution (event handler?) but I'm stumped.

  • Building an external list while filtering in LINQ

    - by Khnle
I have an array of input strings that contains either email addresses or account names in the form of domain\account. I would like to build a List of string that contains only email addresses. If an element in the input array is of the form domain\account, I will perform a lookup in the dictionary. If the key is found in the dictionary, that value is the email address. If not found, that won't get added to the result list. The code below will makes the above description clear: private bool where(string input, Dictionary<string, string> dict) { if (input.Contains("@")) { return true; } else { try { string value = dict[input]; return true; } catch (KeyNotFoundException) { return false; } } } private string select(string input, Dictionary<string, string> dict) { if (input.Contains("@")) { return input; } else { try { string value = dict[input]; return value; } catch (KeyNotFoundException) { return null; } } } public void run() { Dictionary<string, string> dict = new Dictionary<string, string>() { { "gmail\\nameless", "[email protected]"} }; string[] s = { "[email protected]", "gmail\\nameless", "gmail\\unknown" }; var q = s.Where(p => where(p, dict)).Select(p => select(p, dict)); List<string> resultList = q.ToList<string>(); } While the above code works (hope I don't have any typo here), there are 2 problems that I do not like with the above: The code in where() and select() seems to be redundant/repeating. It takes 2 passes. The second pass converts from the query expression to List. So I would like to add to the List resultList directly in the where() method. It seems like I should be able to do so. Here's the code: private bool where(string input, Dictionary<string, string> dict, List<string> resultList) { if (input.Contains("@")) { resultList.Add(input); //note the difference from above return true; } else { try { string value = dict[input]; resultList.Add(value); //note the difference from above return true; } catch (KeyNotFoundException) { return false; } } } The my LINQ expression can be nicely in 1 single statement: List<string> resultList = new List<string>(); s.Where(p => where(p, dict, resultList)); Or var q = s.Where(p => where(p, dict, resultList)); //do nothing with q afterward Which seems like perfect and legal C# LINQ. The result: sometime it works and sometime it doesn't. So why doesn't my code work reliably and how can I make it do so?

  • In ActionScript, Is there a way to check if an input argument is a valid Vector of any type?

    - by ty
In the following code: var a:Vector.<int> ... var b:Vector.<String> ... var c:Vector.<uint> ... var c:Vector.<MyOwnClass> ... function verifyArrayLike(arr:*):Boolean { return (arr is Array || arr is Vector) } verifyArrayLike(a); verifyArrayLike(b); ... What I'm looking for is something like _var is Vector.<*> But Vector.<*> is not a valid expression, even Vector. can not be placed at the right side of operators. Is there a way to check if an input argument is a valid Vector of any type?

  • How can I force input to uppercase in an asp.net textbox?

    - by Aheho
I'm writing an asp.net application. I have a textbox on a webform and I want to force whatever the user types to upper case. I'd like to do this on the front end. You should also note that there is a validation control on this textbox, so I want to make sure the solution doesn't interfere with the asp.net validation. Clarification: It appears that the CSS text-tranform makes the user input appear in uppercase, however under the hood, it's still lower case as the validation control fails. You see, my validation control checks to see if a valid state code is entered, however the regex expression I"m using only works with uppercase characters.

  • Can I prevent Flash's Input Events from stacking up when my framerate low?

    - by Matt W
My Flash game targets 24 fps, but slows to 10 on slower machines. This is fine, except Flash decides to throttle the queue of incoming MouseEvent and KeyboardEvents, and they stack up and the Events fall behind. Way behind. It's so bad that, at 10 fps, if I spam the Mouse and Keyboard for a few seconds not much happens, then, after I stop, the game seems to play itself for the next 5 seconds as the Events trickle in. Spooky, I know. Does anyone know a way around this? I basically need to say to Flash, "I know you think we're falling behind, but throttling the input events won't help. Give them to me as soon as you get them, please."

  • Autocorrelation method for pitch determination: what is the input data form?

    - by harsh
    I have read a code for pitch determination using autocorrelation method. Can anybody please tell what would be the input data (passed as argument to DetectPitch()) function here: double DetectPitch(short* data) { int sampleRate = 2048; //Create sine wave double *buffer = malloc(1024*sizeof(short)); double amplitude = 0.25 * 32768; //0.25 * max length of short double frequency = 726.0; for (int n = 0; n < 1024; n++) { buffer[n] = (short)(amplitude * sin((2 * 3.14159265 * n * frequency) / sampleRate)); } doHighPassFilter(data); printf("Pitch from sine wave: %f\n",detectPitchCalculation(buffer, 50.0, 1000.0, 1, 1)); printf("Pitch from mic: %f\n",detectPitchCalculation(data, 50.0, 1000.0, 1, 1)); return 0; }

  • Is a "Confirm Email" input good practice when user changes email address?

    - by dibson
My organization has a form to allow users to update their email address with us. It's suggested that we have two input boxes for email: the second as an email confirmation. I always copy/paste my email address when faced with the confirmation. I'm assuming most of our users are not so savvy. Regardless, is this considered a good practice? I can't stand it personally, but I also realize it probably isn't meant for me. If someone screws up their email, they can't login, and they must call to sort things out.

  • Solution to combine two submit buttons.. doing two different things from the same input

    - by zac
I am trying to figure out how to combine two different forms, both require the same input but they do two different things. One form sends a request to the ecommerce platform to get the order status, and another form takes the same order number and returns a tracking code from USP or USPS. I am looking for some guidance on how I could combine these two actions.. one is currently using the POST method and the other GET. Here is an example .. so one is This one runs a validation script to confirm the order number is valid and then returns the order info if it is the second form is sending a get request to an asp file that is generating the proper tracking numbers. Can someone please point me to how I could begin to tackle this?

  • (Ogre3D) Using a 3D texture slice as a 2D texture input.

    - by ~mech
Hello, I am trying to do something with Ogre using 3D textures. I would like to update a 3D-texture by going through it slice-by-slice and recalculating the color values. However, in each step I also need to access the previous slice somehow to read the values. Setting up a slice as a render target is easy, but is it possible to feed such a slice as a 2D-texture input to a shader, or do I need to explicitly copy it into a separate 2D texture? Thanks.

  • How to expose a function that takes two input files as a REST resource?

    - by dafmetal
I need to expose a function, let's say compute that takes two input files: a plan file and a system file. The compute function uses to system file to see whether the plan in the plan file can be executed or not. It produces an output file containing the result of this check including recommendations for the plan. I need to expose this functionality in a REST architecture and have no influence on the compute function itself (it is being developed by another organization). I can control the interface through which it is accessed. What would be a recommended way to expose this functionality in a REST architecture?

  • How to build a SQL statement when any combination of user input to the table is possible?

    - by Greg McNulty
Example: the user fills in everything but the product name. I need to search on what is supplied, so in this case everything but productName= This example could be for any combination of input. Is there a way to do this? Thanks. $name = $_POST['n']; $cat = $_POST['c']; $price = $_POST['p']; if( !($name) ) { $name = some character to select all? } $sql = "SELECT * FROM products WHERE productCategory='$cat' and productName='$name' and productPrice='$price' "; EDIT Solution does not have to protect from attacks. Specifically looking at the dynamic part of it.

  • Retreiving multiple rows from a loop-created form... Stuck.

    - by hangston
Hi All, Let me start by saying that I'm new to PHP, but I'm here to learn and would really appreciate your help. I use the following code to pull in data and create a form. This creates up to 40 lines for a user to fill out. Each line consists of the same information: Description, Amount, and Frequency. The remainder of the information needed is generated by the database. (See hidden fields) <?php $row = 0; do { $optid = $row_options['option_id']; echo "<tr>\n\t<td>" . htmlentities($row_options['option']) . "</td>\n"; echo "\t<td>" . "<input name='description' type='text' size='40' maxlength='120'/>" . "</td>\n"; echo "\t<td>" . "<input name='option_id' type='hidden' value='$optid' />$<input name='amount' type='text' size='10' maxlength='7'/>" . "</td>\n"; echo "\t<td>" . "<select name='assisted_frequency'> <option value='Monthly'>Monthly</option> <option value='Weekly'>Weekly</option> <option value='Daily'>Daily</option> <option value='Hourly'>Hourly</option> <option value='One-Time'>One-Time</option> </select>" . "</td>\n</tr>\n"; $array[$row] = array( $arraydesc[$row] = $_POST['description'], $arrayamto[$row] = $_POST['amount'], $arrayoptid[$row] = $optid, $arrayfreq[$row] = $_POST['frequency'], ); $row ++; } while ($row_options = mysql_fetch_assoc($options)); $counter = $row - 1; ?> I'm having troubles retrieving the information that the user inputs. My intent is to loop through each row after the user has input their information, then upload the mix of my database information and the user's information into another database. For example, the user would see, albeit prettier: form1 Option 1: description [input box] amount [input box] frequency [option box] Option 2: description [input box] amount [input box] frequency [option box] Option 3: description [input box] amount [input box] frequency [option box] Option 4: description [input box] amount [input box] frequency [option box] submit Upon submitting the form above, I'm using a query similar to the following to input the data into the database: for($row=0; $row<=$counter; $row++){ $insertSQL2 = sprintf("INSERT INTO table (option_id, amount, description, frequency) VALUES (%s, %s, %s, %s)", GetSQLValueString($arrayoptid[$row], "int"), GetSQLValueString($arrayamto[$row], "int"), GetSQLValueString($arraydesc[$row], "text"), GetSQLValueString($arrayfreq[$row], "text")); // code to submit query } I've tried for, foreach, arrays (what feels like the everything I know) to post each row (row by row) into the database. I either get just the last row of data, or no data at all. I also worry that the [$row] technique is adding characters to my data. What is the best way to retrieve each row of the user's inputs, then upload this data (row by row) into the database? Also, I would really appreciate your suggestions for improving my coding technique and the approach I'm taking. Thank you, Hangston

  • How can I select a value matching my input from a TypeAhead control using WWW::Mechanize?

    - by kyoob
So ordinarily the element I want to pick from a list would be populated on a page and I'd just find it and pick it. But I'm dealing with a control that doesn't populate list elements until some input has been stuck into a text box, after which it gives me a list of recommendations. For an example of the kind of list I'm talking about think of Facebook's "People, Places, and Things" search field. I want to plug a string into this text box, select the same string from the list of recommendations, and submit the form. The issue I'm having right now is I can't seem to get Mechanize to even recognize the field is there. I examine a dump of $mech->find_all_inputs and it isn't listed. Is this kind of field just beyond Mechanize's jurisdiction?

  • Why input elements don't render the value passed in ASP.Net MVC?

    - by MediaSlayer
This post asks this question but doesn't really give an answer, so I thought I would ask the question differently. I have a page that renders a hidden value from the model: <%=Html.Hidden("myName", model.myValue) %> Since I am passing a value in the value parameter, you would think it would output that value, but it doesn't. The code for rendering input fields has the following: string attemptedValue = (string)htmlHelper.GetModelStateValue(name, typeof(string)); tagBuilder.MergeAttribute("value", attemptedValue ?? ((useViewData) ? htmlHelper.EvalString(name) : valueParameter), isExplicitValue); Basically, if the ModelState (which contains posted values) contains a value for the "name" passed, it will use that value instead of your passed value to the helper method. In my case, I updated the model and my updated value wasn't outputted. If I pass a value to a method, I expect that value to be rendered. Am I missing something in this design or is it just wrong?

  • How can I validate input to the edit control of a cell in a DataGridView?

    - by Stuart Helwig
It appears that the only way to capture the keypress events within a cell of a DataGridView control, in order to validate user input as they type, is to us the DataGridView controls OnEditControlShowing event, hook up a method to the edit control's (e.Control) keypress event and do some validation. My problem is that I've built a heap of custom DataGridView column classes, with their own custom cell types. These cells have their own custom edit controls (things like DateTimePickers, and Numeric or Currency textboxes.) I want to do some numeric validation for those cells that have Numeric of Currency Textboxes as their edit controls but not all the other cell types. How can I determine, within the DataGridView's "OnEditControlShowing" override, whether or not a particular edit control needs some numeric validation?

  • what changes when your input is giga/terabyte sized?

    - by Wang
I just took my first baby step today into real scientific computing today when I was shown a data set where the smallest file is 48000 fields by 1600 rows (haplotypes for several people, for chromosome 22). And this is considered tiny. I write Python, so I've spent the last few hours reading about HDF5, and Numpy, and PyTable, but I still feel like I'm not really grokking what a terabyte-sized data set actually means for me as a programmer. For example, someone pointed out that with larger data sets, it becomes impossible to read the whole thing into memory, not because the machine has insufficient RAM, but because the architecture has insufficient address space! It blew my mind. What other assumptions have I been relying in the classroom that just don't work with input this big? What kinds of things do I need to start doing or thinking about differently? (This doesn't have to be Python specific.)

  • EXCEL - Locking a Cell from User input whilst allowing a Linked combobox?

    - by Christopher Leach
I have a Protected Worksheet which is a checklist with a series of checkpoints. Each row has Item and Description cells that are locked. Each row has several columns with its contents to be set by a ComboBox and a text input column. Both i have left unlocked. I have Locked the the Item and Description columns and left only the 'Select Unlocked Cells' checked via Sheet Protection. I have one ComboBox on the worksheet that moves around and adjusts its LinkedCell and its Content list using the worksheets SelectionChanged event. When the user selects a cell to bring up the drop down list, the user is able to type into the cell and the Drop Down Box disappears. What is the best way to keep the cell unlocked so it can be selectable(as 'Select Locked Cells" is unchecked) however stop the user from being able to type in the cell and to allow the cells contents to become modifiable only via the ComboBox?
