• Why am I getting a permission denied error on my public folder?

  Hi all, This one has got me stumped. I'm deploying a Rails 3 app to Slicehost running Apache 2 and Passenger. My server is running Ruby 1.9.1 using RVM. I am receiving a permission denied error on the "public" folder in my app. My Virtual Host is setup as follows: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName sharerplane.com ServerAlias www.sharerplane.com ServerAlias *.sharerplane.com DocumentRoot /home/robinjfisher/public_html/sharerplane.com/current/public/ <Directory "/home/robinjfisher/public_html/sharerplane.com/public/"> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> PassengerDefaultUser robinjfisher </VirtualHost> I've tried the following things: trailing slash on public; no trailing slash on public; PassengerUserSwitching on and off; PassengerDefaultUser set and not set; with and without the block. The public folder is owned by robinjfisher:www-data and Passenger is running as robinjfisher so I can't see why there are permission issues. Does anybody have any thoughts? Thanks Robin PS. Have disabled the site for the time being to avoid indexing so what is there currently is not the site in question.

I've looked everywhere on the internet telling me to go to Device Pointer Properties, then Settings, then Pointing, then Sensitivity then mess with Palm Check, but Palm Check isn't there and it isn't anywhere else.   When Rhythmbox is not active/not focused and when I am on some other application window. How to skip/stop/resume songs that are playing in Rhythmbox. Is there any shortcut key to do that? I know when I am on Ubuntu desktop I can press Alt+10 to get the focus of indicator applets from there I can navigate to Rhythmbox and use arrow keys to skip it ( <- / - ) but is there any other direct shortcut to do this? • Why can a public class not inherit from a less visible one?

  I apologize if this question has been asked before. I've searched SO somewhat and wasn't able to find it. I'm just curious what the rationale behind this design was/is. Obviously I understand that private/internal members of a base type cannot, nor should they, be exposed through a derived public type. But it seems to my naive thinking that the "hidden" parts could easily remain hidden while some base functionality is still shared and a new interface is exposed publicly.   I have a virtualbox VM running ubuntu. The Ubuntu guest is running a web server which listens on port 3000 (http://127.0.0.1:3000) The host machine is windows vista. I have configured port forwarding using VBoxManage. If I query the config using VboxManage getextradata "MyMachine", I get Key: GUI/AutoresizeGuest, Value: on Key: GUI/Fullscreen, Value: off Key: GUI/LastCloseAction, Value: shutdown Key: GUI/LastWindowPostion, Value: 9,34,640,529,max Key: GUI/MiniToolBarAlignment, Value: bottom Key: GUI/MiniToolBarAutoHide, Value: off Key: GUI/SaveMountedAtRuntime, Value: yes Key: GUI/Seamless, Value: off Key: GUI/ShowMiniToolBar, Value: yes Key: VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/guesthttp/GuestPort, Value: 3000 Key: VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/guesthttp/HostPort, Value: 3000 Key: VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/guesthttp/Protocol, Value: TCP This looks like it should work... However when I try to access the web server from the host machine (windows box) I dont get a response. I ran a netstat on the windows box and nothing appears to be listening on port 3000 which explains why forwrding isnt working. Note that I have already tested with my firewall switched off... The version of VirtualBox I am using is 3.1.4 Any ideas?

• Moving distribution lists in Public Folders to Sharepoint Contacts?

  Now I know that if I connect to contact list in Sharepoint and drag and drop everything from the Exchange Public Folder contact list to the Sharepoint Contact list (connected through Outlook) it will transfer everything in the contact list to the sharepoint contact list. What about distribution lists? Has anyone had a workaround for this? If a contact list is full of distribution lists the Contacts won't migrate over and the Sync Issues - Local Failures folder is populated with all the distribution lists that couldn't be migrated. Is there a way to migrate distribution lists? Any ideas how to set up the sharepoint contact list like a public folder contact list of distrubition lists? How would that contact list look on sharepoint? Should I just leave the contact lists that have distribution lists on public folders?

  My office utilizes Outlook 2010 and Exchange for e-mail, and our calendars show free/busy information by default. Background I work from home once a week, so I have created an event that lists me as tentative for the entire workday, titled "Working from Home - Available Remotely". However, those attempting to schedule a meeting with me won't see this title, and therefore won't think they can schedule an event. As much as I'd like to get out meetings (!) it's important that folks be able to schedule with me. Question Is there a way to make the title/details public for this one recurring event so that when others attempt to schedule a meeting with me, Attempted Solutions I've tried creating a public calendar and sharing all the details of that calendar. However, all of my calendars are not included when someone wants to schedule with me, and so I'm shown as free unless someone specifically looks at my public calendar. I've Googled around, to no avail.

  We have a single public /24 subnet, with a BGP router as the primary gateway. Now I'm interested in configuring a second router for redundancy. How do I deal with multiple gateways on the servers in our public subnet? I found some other questions related to multiple gateways that seem to deal with NAT set-ups. In my situation, the servers all have public routed IP-addresses. So from what I can tell, it doesn't really matter which route incoming or outgoing packets take. But I figure the servers need some way of telling when one of the gateways is down, and route around it? Is this accomplished with protocols such as OSPF? And do I need to deploy this on all my servers?

• Does connecting to the default host via public IP from within its subnet cause any issues?

  I'm setting up a small office network with a single public IP (let's say it's 69.16.230.117). I've configured NAT on the router with incoming traffic forwarded to the server (say the server has a private IP of 192.168.0.2). Is it okay to configure the client machines on the same subnet to access the server via the router's public IP (69.16.230.117)? In practice it's never caused me problems, but I've heard, here and there, that it is a bad idea, and one should use the private IP (192.168.0.2). Does connecting to the default host via public IP from within its subnet cause any issues? Please refrain from writing "never! it breaks the intranet!" ;-)

• Issue with Autofac 2 and MVC2 using HttpRequestScoped

  I'm running into an issue with Autofac2 and MVC2. The problem is that I am trying to resolve a series of dependencies where the root dependency is HttpRequestScoped. When I try to resolve my UnitOfWork (which is Disposable), Autofac fails because the internal disposer is trying to add the UnitOfWork object to an internal disposal list which is null. Maybe I'm registering my dependencies with the wrong lifetimes, but I've tried many different combinations with no luck. The only requirement I have is that MyDataContext lasts for the entire HttpRequest. I've posted a demo version of the code for download here.   HI i am in desperate need for help here, I am making a web request and getting a json string with Response.ContentLenth=2246 but when i parse it in a string it gives only few 100 characters, i traked it down that it is only getting values less than 964. strings length is still 2246 but remaining values are just (\0) null characters. Its also giving an error Unterminated string passed in. (2246): at following line FacebookFeed feed = sr.Deserialize<FacebookFeed>(data); It works fine if the response stream contains characters less than 964 chars. • NHibernate: How is identity Id updated when saving a transient instance?

  If I use session-per-transaction and call: session.SaveOrUpdate(entity) corrected: session.SaveOrUpdateCopy(entity) ..and entity is a transient instance with identity-Id=0. Shall the above line automatically update the Id of the entity, and make the instance persistent? Or should it do so on transaction.Commit? Or do I have to somehow code that explicitly? Obviously the Id of the database row (new, since transient) is autogenerated and saved as some number, but I'm talking about the actual parameter instance here. Which is the business logic instance.
