• Can JAXB store the class name in the XML so that the the deserialize code doesn't need knowledge of the class?

  It seems the standard approach for deserializing JAXB XML is to specify the package name when creating the context. Then, JAXB looks up the class based on the root element: JAXBContext jc = JAXBContext.newInstance("com.foo"); Unmarshaller u = jc.createUnmarshaller(); Object o = u.unmarshal(new StringReader("...")); I'm looking for a more flexible approach where I don't have to specify the package name and could still deserialize any object. This would be as simple as JAXB storing the package in the XML, but I can't seem to find out how to do this. I can write the code to do it myself but that would be unpleasant. It would like JAXB to do it, if possible. BTW, I am not using schemas, just Annotations and marshal/unmarshal. Any ideas?

• Should every class have its own namespace?

  Something that has been troubling me for a while: The current wisdom is that types should be kept in a namespace that only contains functions which are part of the type's non-member interface (see C++ Coding Standards Sutter and Alexandrescu or here) to prevent ADL pulling in unrelated definitions. Does this imply that all classes must have a namespace of their own? If we assume that a class may be augmented in the future by the addition of non-member functions, then it can never be safe to put two types in the same namespace as either one of them may introduce non-member functions that could interfere with the other. The reason I ask is that namespaces are becoming cumbersome for me. I'm writing a header-only library and I find myself using classes names such as project::component::class_name::class_name. Their implementations call helper functions but as these can't be in the same namespace they also have to be fully qualified!

  Hi, I stumbled upon a rather exotic c++ namespace problem: condensed example: extern "C" { void solve(lprec * lp); } class A { public: lprec * lp; void solve(int foo); } void A::solve(int foo) { solve(lp); } I want to call the c funcition solve in my C++ member function A::solve. The compiler is not happy with my intents: error C2664: 'lp_solve_ilp::solve' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'lprec *' to 'int' Is there something I can prefix the solve function?   I want to change the link-style for some of my links, like this: a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } However, I only want this to take effect in my Navigation Bar, and not for regular links. I have tried variations on this: #navbar a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } With the intended meaning "this only applies to links with <div id="navbar">" But it didn't work. How can I set the style for only certain links, defined by the class or id of their container?

• Xcode debugger showing assembler for nested classes in a static library

  I have a project A which creates a static library. I have a project B which uses this library. When I am debugging project B, certain functions within project A will display assembler when stepped into or when a breakpoint set inside them is hit. In the debug navigator, the line containing the function is grey instead of black. The strange part is that other functions in the same source file have no problems displaying. The thing that all these functions seem to have in common is that they belong to nested classes. However, I'm not totally convinced that this is the issue since functions from other nested classes display correctly. Does anyone know the cause of this?

• problem loading resource from class library

  I have a class library (mylibrary) which has a resource called "close.png". I used redGate reflector to confirm that the resource is actually present in the dll. Now i use mylibrary.dll in a project where i attempt to extract this "close.png" resource like this : BitmapImage crossImage = new BitmapImage(); crossImage.BeginInit(); crossImage.UriSource = new Uri(@"/mylibrary;component/Resources/close.png", UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute); crossImage.EndInit(); This BitmapImage crossImage is then used like : Button closeButton = new Button() { Content = new System.Windows.Controls.Image() { Source = crossImage }, MaxWidth = 20, MaxHeight = 20 }; On doing this i get no exceptions being thrown but the button shows no image. Also, i do see some exception info if i investigate the button's 'content' in the debugger.

  I have a class called Foo that has a function that looks like the following List<Bar> LoadData(); Both Foo and Bar are in a library that I want to reuse in other projects. Now I am working on a new project and I want to subclass Bar. Let's call it NewBar. What is a simple and flexible way to get Foo.LoadData to return a list of NewBar?   hi all.. i'm caught in a problem. i'm developing an application based on lbs and referred the code given in (forum.nokia.com/wiki) GpsPositionRequest.zip when i try to install the app on device it gets installed successfully but while executing it shows error "unable to execute for security reasons".. i've signed the sis file using carbide C++. my mmp file include the capabilities: ReadDeviceData, WriteDeviceData, Location, NetworkServices, ReadUserData. my class uses TPositionInfo,RPositionServer,RPositioner does it need any other capability?? (i'm using carbide c++ and s60 3rd edition fp1)

• Delete on a very deep tree

  I am building a suffix trie (unfortunately, no time to properly implement a suffix tree) for a 10 character set. The strings I wish to parse are going to be rather long (up to 1M characters). The tree is constructed without any problems, however, I run into some when I try to free the memory after being done with it. In particularly, if I set up my constructor and destructor to be as such (where CNode.child is a pointer to an array of 10 pointers to other CNodes, and count is a simple unsigned int): CNode::CNode(){ count = 0; child = new CNode* [10]; memset(child, 0, sizeof(CNode*) * 10); } CNode::~CNode(){ for (int i=0; i<10; i++) delete child[i]; } I get a stack overflow when trying to delete the root node. I might be wrong, but I am fairly certain that this is due to too many destructor calls (each destructor calls up to 10 other destructors). I know this is suboptimal both space, and time-wise, however, this is supposed to be a quick-and-dirty solution to a the repeated substring problem. tl;dr: how would one go about freeing the memory occupied by a very deep tree? I have no problem accessing these variables form .ascx.cs or .aspx.cs file -- ie. files that are part of the Web content. However, I can't seem to access 'Application' from basic class objects (ie. standalone .cs files). • C#. Struct design. Why 16 byte is recommended size?

  I read Cwalina book (recommendations on development and design of .NET apps). He says that good designed struct has to be less than 16 bytes in size (for performance purpose). My questions is - why exactly is this? And (more important) can I have larger struct with same efficiency if I run my .NET 3.5 (soon to be .NET 4.0) 64-bit application on i7 under Win7 x64 (is this limitation CPU / OS based)? Just to stress again - I need as efficient struct as it is possible. I try to keep it in stack all the time, the application is heavily multi-threaded and runs on sub-millisecond intervals, the current size of the struct is 64 byte.

• Class properties vs NSArray / NSDictionary

  I want a custom class object to hold data and have somehow the feeling that creating about 80 properties is not the best way of doing it. Most of the properties would be bool values, so i'm thinking about creating Arrays (keys / values) or (probably better) a NSDictionary attached to the object for holding the data. Does that make sense or should i stay with the properties? Extra: Are there general pros and cons for the different approaches? And what keywords / concepts do i have to search for to find discussions about that somehow general question? Thanks in advance

• Add another class to a div with javascript

  I have a function that checks the age of a form submission and then returns new content in a div depending on their age. right now I am just using getElementById to replace the html content. BUt I think would work better for me if I could also add a class to a div as well. So for example I have.. if (under certain age) { document.getElementById('hello').innerHTML = "<p>Good Bye</p>"; createCookie('age','not13',0) return false; } else { document.getElementById('hello').innerHTML = "<p>Hello</p>"; return true; } What I would like to do is have everything in a div and if return false then that div disappears and is replaced with other content.. can I get any ideas on a good way to achieve this with pure javascript. I dont want to use jQuery for this particular function.

• Is there a case for parameterising using Abstract classes rather than Interfaces?

  I'm currently developing a component based API that is heavily stateful. The top level components implement around a dozen interfaces each. The stock top-level components therefore sit ontop of a stack of Abstract implementations which in turn contain multiple mixin implementations and implement multiple mixin interfaces. So far, so good (I hope). The problem is that the base functionality is extremely complex to implement (1,000s of lines in 5 layers of base classes) and therefore I do not wish for component writers to implement the interfaces themselves but rather to extend my base classes (where all the boiler plate code is already written). If the API therefore accepts interfaces rather than references to the Abstract implementation that I wish for component writers to extends, then I have a risk that the implementer will not perform the validation that is both required and assumed by other areas of code. Therefore, my question is, is it sometimes valid to paramerise API methods using an abstract implementation reference rather than a reference to the interface(s) that it implements? Do you have an example of a well-designed API that uses this technique or am I trying to talk myself into bad-practice?

• C#. Where struct methods code kept in memory?

  It is somewhat known where .NET keeps value types in memory (mostly in stack but could be in heap in certain circumstances etc)... My question is - where is the code of the struct? If I have say 16 byte of data fields in the struct and a massive computation method in it - I am presuming that 16 byte will be copied in stack and the method code is stored somewhere else and is shared for all instances of the struct. Are these presumptions correct?
