  • Setting up a pc bluetooth server for android

    - by Del
    Alright, I've been reading a lot of topics the past two or three days and nothing seems to have asked this. I am writing a PC side server for my andriod device, this is for exchanging some information and general debugging. Eventually I will be connecting to a SPP device to control a microcontroller. I have managed, using the following (Android to pc) to connect to rfcomm channel 11 and exchange data between my android device and my pc. Method m = device.getClass().getMethod("createRfcommSocket", new Class[] { int.class }); tmp = (BluetoothSocket) m.invoke(device, Integer.valueOf(11)); I have attempted the createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID) method, with absolutely no luck. For the PC side, I have been using the C Bluez stack for linux. I have the following code which registers the service and opens a server socket: int main(int argc, char **argv) { struct sockaddr_rc loc_addr = { 0 }, rem_addr = { 0 }; char buf[1024] = { 0 }; char str[1024] = { 0 }; int s, client, bytes_read; sdp_session_t *session; socklen_t opt = sizeof(rem_addr); session = register_service(); s = socket(AF_BLUETOOTH, SOCK_STREAM, BTPROTO_RFCOMM); loc_addr.rc_family = AF_BLUETOOTH; loc_addr.rc_bdaddr = *BDADDR_ANY; loc_addr.rc_channel = (uint8_t) 11; bind(s, (struct sockaddr *)&loc_addr, sizeof(loc_addr)); listen(s, 1); client = accept(s, (struct sockaddr *)&rem_addr, &opt); ba2str( &rem_addr.rc_bdaddr, buf ); fprintf(stderr, "accepted connection from %s\n", buf); memset(buf, 0, sizeof(buf)); bytes_read = read(client, buf, sizeof(buf)); if( bytes_read 0 ) { printf("received [%s]\n", buf); } sprintf(str,"to Android."); printf("sent [%s]\n",str); write(client, str, sizeof(str)); close(client); close(s); sdp_close( session ); return 0; } sdp_session_t *register_service() { uint32_t svc_uuid_int[] = { 0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000 }; uint8_t rfcomm_channel = 11; const char *service_name = "Remote Host"; const char *service_dsc = "What the remote should be connecting to."; const char *service_prov = "Your mother"; uuid_t root_uuid, l2cap_uuid, rfcomm_uuid, svc_uuid; sdp_list_t *l2cap_list = 0, *rfcomm_list = 0, *root_list = 0, *proto_list = 0, *access_proto_list = 0; sdp_data_t *channel = 0, *psm = 0; sdp_record_t *record = sdp_record_alloc(); // set the general service ID sdp_uuid128_create( &svc_uuid, &svc_uuid_int ); sdp_set_service_id( record, svc_uuid ); // make the service record publicly browsable sdp_uuid16_create(&root_uuid, PUBLIC_BROWSE_GROUP); root_list = sdp_list_append(0, &root_uuid); sdp_set_browse_groups( record, root_list ); // set l2cap information sdp_uuid16_create(&l2cap_uuid, L2CAP_UUID); l2cap_list = sdp_list_append( 0, &l2cap_uuid ); proto_list = sdp_list_append( 0, l2cap_list ); // set rfcomm information sdp_uuid16_create(&rfcomm_uuid, RFCOMM_UUID); channel = sdp_data_alloc(SDP_UINT8, &rfcomm_channel); rfcomm_list = sdp_list_append( 0, &rfcomm_uuid ); sdp_list_append( rfcomm_list, channel ); sdp_list_append( proto_list, rfcomm_list ); // attach protocol information to service record access_proto_list = sdp_list_append( 0, proto_list ); sdp_set_access_protos( record, access_proto_list ); // set the name, provider, and description sdp_set_info_attr(record, service_name, service_prov, service_dsc); int err = 0; sdp_session_t *session = 0; // connect to the local SDP server, register the service record, and // disconnect session = sdp_connect( BDADDR_ANY, BDADDR_LOCAL, SDP_RETRY_IF_BUSY ); err = sdp_record_register(session, record, 0); // cleanup //sdp_data_free( channel ); sdp_list_free( l2cap_list, 0 ); sdp_list_free( rfcomm_list, 0 ); sdp_list_free( root_list, 0 ); sdp_list_free( access_proto_list, 0 ); return session; } And another piece of code, in addition to 'sdptool browse local' which can verifty that the service record is running on the pc: int main(int argc, char **argv) { uuid_t svc_uuid; uint32_t svc_uuid_int[] = { 0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000 }; int err; bdaddr_t target; sdp_list_t *response_list = NULL, *search_list, *attrid_list; sdp_session_t *session = 0; str2ba( "01:23:45:67:89:AB", &target ); // connect to the SDP server running on the remote machine session = sdp_connect( BDADDR_ANY, BDADDR_LOCAL, SDP_RETRY_IF_BUSY ); // specify the UUID of the application we're searching for sdp_uuid128_create( &svc_uuid, &svc_uuid_int ); search_list = sdp_list_append( NULL, &svc_uuid ); // specify that we want a list of all the matching applications' attributes uint32_t range = 0x0000ffff; attrid_list = sdp_list_append( NULL, &range ); // get a list of service records that have UUID 0xabcd err = sdp_service_search_attr_req( session, search_list, \ SDP_ATTR_REQ_RANGE, attrid_list, &response_list); sdp_list_t *r = response_list; // go through each of the service records for (; r; r = r-next ) { sdp_record_t *rec = (sdp_record_t*) r-data; sdp_list_t *proto_list; // get a list of the protocol sequences if( sdp_get_access_protos( rec, &proto_list ) == 0 ) { sdp_list_t *p = proto_list; // go through each protocol sequence for( ; p ; p = p-next ) { sdp_list_t *pds = (sdp_list_t*)p-data; // go through each protocol list of the protocol sequence for( ; pds ; pds = pds-next ) { // check the protocol attributes sdp_data_t *d = (sdp_data_t*)pds-data; int proto = 0; for( ; d; d = d-next ) { switch( d-dtd ) { case SDP_UUID16: case SDP_UUID32: case SDP_UUID128: proto = sdp_uuid_to_proto( &d-val.uuid ); break; case SDP_UINT8: if( proto == RFCOMM_UUID ) { printf("rfcomm channel: %d\n",d-val.int8); } break; } } } sdp_list_free( (sdp_list_t*)p-data, 0 ); } sdp_list_free( proto_list, 0 ); } printf("found service record 0x%x\n", rec-handle); sdp_record_free( rec ); } sdp_close(session); } Output: $ ./search rfcomm channel: 11 found service record 0x10008 sdptool: Service Name: Remote Host Service Description: What the remote should be connecting to. Let me reiterate, I can get it to work, but not using service discovery protocol. I've tried a several different UUIDs and on two different computers, although I only have my HTC Incredible to test with. I've also heard some rumors that the BT stack wasn't working on the HTC Droid, but that isn't the case, at least, for PC interaction.

  • The Interaction between Three-Tier Client/Server Model and Three-Tier Application Architecture Model

    The three-tier client/server model is a network architectural approach currently used in modern networking. This approach divides a network in to three distinct components. Three-Tier Client/Server Model Components Client Component Server Component Database Component The Client Component of the network typically represents any device on the network. A basic example of this would be computer or another network/web enabled devices that are connected to a network. Network clients request resources on the network, and are usually equipped with a user interface for the presentation of the data returned from the Server Component. This process is done through the use of various software clients, and example of this can be seen through the use of a web browser client. The web browser request information from the Server Component located on the network and then renders the results for the user to process. The Server Components of the network return data based on specific client request back to the requesting client.  Server Components also inherit the attributes of a Client Component in that they are a device on the network and that they can also request information from other Server Components. However what differentiates a Client Component from a Server Component is that a Server Component response to requests from devices on the network. An example of a Server Component can be seen in a web server. A web server listens for new requests and then interprets the request, processes the web pages, and then returns the processed data back to the web browser client so that it may render the data for the user to interpret. The Database Component of the network returns unprocessed data from databases or other resources. This component also inherits attributes from the Server Component in that it is a device on a network, it can request information from other server components and database components, and it also listens for new requests so that it can return data when needed. The three-tier client/server model is very similar to the three-tier application architecture model, and in fact the layers can be mapped to one another. Three-Tier Application Architecture Model Presentation Layer/Logic Business Layer/Logic Data Layer/Logic The Presentation Layer including its underlying logic is very similar to the Client Component of the three-tiered model. The Presentation Layer focuses on interpreting the data returned by the Business Layer as well as presents the data back to the user.  Both the Presentation Layer and the Client Component focus primarily on the user and their experience. This allows for segments of the Business Layer to be distributable and interchangeable because the Presentation Layer is not directly integrated in with Business Layer. The Presentation Layer does not care where the data comes from as long as it is in the proper format. This allows for the Presentation Layer and Business Layer to be stored on one or more different servers so that it can provide a higher availability to clients requesting data. A good example of this is a web site that uses load balancing. When a web site decides to take on the task of load balancing they must obtain a network device that sits in front of a one or machines in order to distribute the request across multiple servers. When a user comes in through the load balanced device they are redirected to a specific server based on a few factors. Common Load Balancing Factors Current Server Availability Current Server Response Time Current Server Priority The Business Layer and corresponding logic are business rules applied to data prior to it being sent to the Presentation Layer. These rules are used to manipulate the data coming from the Data Access Layer, in addition to validating any data prior to being stored in the Data Access Layer. A good example of this would be when a user is trying to create multiple accounts under one email address. The Business Layer logic can prevent duplicate accounts by enforcing a unique email for every new account before the data is even stored in the Data Access Layer. The Server Component can be directly tied to this layer in that the server typically stores and process the Business Layer before it is returned to the end-user via the Presentation Layer. In addition the Server Component can also run automated process through the Business Layer on the data in the Data Access Layer so that additional business analysis can be derived from the data that has been already collected. The Data Layer and its logic are responsible for storing information so that it can be easily retrieved. Typical in most modern applications data is stored in a database management system however data can also be in the form of files stored on a file server. In addition a database can take on one of several forms. Common Database Formats XML File Pipe Delimited File Tab Delimited File Comma Delimited File (CSV) Plain Text File Microsoft Access Microsoft SQL Server MySql Oracle Sybase The Database component of the Networking model can be directly tied to the Data Layer because this is where the Data Layer obtains the data to return back the Business Layer. The Database Component basically allows for a place on the network to store data for future use. This enables applications to save data when they can and then quickly recall the saved data as needed so that the application does not have to worry about storing the data in memory. This prevents overhead that could be created when an application must retain all data in memory. As you can see the Three-Tier Client/Server Networking Model and the Three-Tiered Application Architecture Model rely very heavily on one another to function especially if different aspects of an application are distributed across an entire network. The use of various servers and database servers are wonderful when an application has a need to distribute work across the network. Network Components and Application Layers Interaction Database components will store all data needed for the Data Access Layer to manipulate and return to the Business Layer Server Component executes the Business Layer that manipulates data so that it can be returned to the Presentation Layer Client Component hosts the Presentation Layer that  interprets the data and present it to the user

  • Silverlight Cream Monday WP7 App Review # 1

    - by Dave Campbell
    I'm going to try something here... if it seems useful, I'll continue, if it doesn't, I'll stop... so give me feedback! There are *lots* of Apps in the WP7 Marketplace, and heaven help me, but the Marketplace sucks for finding stuff. I won't rehash what's already been said in the blogs, but I agree with one and all. I went out last Saturday to find 2 apps that I knew were released, and couldn't do so on my device. Even in the Zune app, it took quite a while to find them... ok, I'll back off a bit, because I just found out I can do 'Search' now if I know the name... I didn't think that was working before. So my thought is on Monday (like today), I will post a review of 5 apps/games I either use or have played with on my device. These are strictly my opinions, you understand, but hey... it's better than a poke in the eye with an iPhone! A few disclaimers:     Feel free to write me about your app and tell me about it. While it would be very cool to receive a whole bunch of xap files to review, at this point, for technical reasons, I'm unable to side-load my device. Since I plan on only doing this one day a week, and only 5, I may never get caught up, so if you send me some info, be patient. Re: games ... remember I'm old... I'm from the era of Colossal Cave and Zork. Duke-Nukem 2D and Captain Comic were awesome. I don't own an XBOX or any other game system, so take game reviews from my perspective -- who knows, it may be refreshing :) I won't pay for an app or game just to try it. If you expect me to test-drive your app, it's going to have to have a Free Trial. In this Issue:   Jingo! is the first app I bought, just to see what the experience was like. It's very much like a game we used to play in school in the Army in 1971 on paper we passed around. Sort of a cross between hangman and Mastermind, you try to figure out the hidden word in 5 tries. You get really good at 5-letter words after a while. I like this because you have to think, and you're not pressured by a clock Jingo! is by James Furdell and is $1.99 I reviewed René Schulte's Pictures Lab a while back, and have not changed my mind. This is an excellent app for playing with any photo on your device... one you've just taken, one you've synced from your PC, or one you've saved from email. I like this because you can get some cool effects for your photos, and it just works. Pictures Lab is by Schulte Software Development and is $1.99 Since I work as a consultant, and from home, I wanted something I could track my time with. I've test-driven all the contenders I could find so far on the phone, and so far I like ONTRACK! the best. If asked, I have some suggestions, but it's probably just the way I work or think. What I do like is I can tap a project to start/stop/restart a counter, and at the end of the day it shows me how much time I've been working. If there's a way to make an adjustment in case you forget to tap the counter, I don't know how to do it, and that's my biggest complaint. I like this because you can get a daily readout which you can also email as a spreadsheet. The daily results display is very good. ONTRACK! is by Qmino and is $2.99 Remember Item 4 above... I've been playing guitar for 48 years... obviously since before the invention of 'tuners', so I'm not as dependent upon these as some folks are. I've tried some in the past and have always felt I can do just as good by ear (I have perfect relative pitch). So, I gave this app by András Velvárt a dance just to see how it works, and it is surprisingly good. If you're used to one of the stage tuners this may take a little getting used to, but it does the job. The difference with this one is there is no real 'null' point inside which you can think your guitar is in tune. The soundwave stays visible on the device, and if it's moving to the right, your string is flat, if it's moving to the left, your string is sharp. Getting it exact might be tricky, but it is exact! If you need to rely on a tuner, this is a good choice in my opinion, exactly because of the sensitivity.. tune up with this and you're dead-on. Guitar Tuner is by Kinabalu Innovation Limited and is $0.99 Popper 2 is the WP7 version of a wildly popular game by Bill Reiss named Dr. Popper. You can get a trial, or you can now get a free lite version of the game. Popper 2 is a fast-paced bubble breaker game. I find it something fun to play when I just want to buzz out, but maybe the best review is that my daughter didn't want to give my phone back when I showed it to her, and always wants to grab my phone to play 'that game'. A fun distraction with great graphics and a great price Popper 2 is by Blue Rose Systems, LLC and is $1.29 Let me know what you think of the idea of doing reviews, or the layout/whatever, and Stay in the 'Light!   Twitter SilverlightNews | Twitter WynApse | WynApse.com | Tagged Posts | SilverlightCream Join me @ SilverlightCream | Phoenix Silverlight User Group Technorati Tags: Silverlight    Silverlight 3    Silverlight 4    Windows Phone MIX10

  • The Linux powered LAN Gaming House

    - by sachinghalot
    LAN parties offer the enjoyment of head to head gaming in a real-life social environment. In general, they are experiencing decline thanks to the convenience of Internet gaming, but Kenton Varda is a man who takes his LAN gaming very seriously. His LAN gaming house is a fascinating project, and best of all, Linux plays a part in making it all work.Varda has done his own write ups (short, long), so I'm only going to give an overview here. The setup is a large house with 12 gaming stations and a single server computer.The client computers themselves are rack mounted in a server room, and they are linked to the gaming stations on the floor above via extension cables (HDMI for video and audio and USB for mouse and keyboard). Each client computer, built into a 3U rack mount case, is a well specced gaming rig in its own right, sporting an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 560 along with a 60GB SSD drive.Originally, the client computers ran Ubuntu Linux rather than Windows and the games executed under WINE, but Varda had to abandon this scheme. As he explains on his site:"Amazingly, a majority of games worked fine, although many had minor bugs (e.g. flickering mouse cursor, minor rendering artifacts, etc.). Some games, however, did not work, or had bad bugs that made them annoying to play."Subsequently, the gaming computers have been moved onto a more conventional gaming choice, Windows 7. It's a shame that WINE couldn't be made to work, but I can sympathize as it's rare to find modern games that work perfectly and at full native speed. Another problem with WINE is that it tends to suffer from regressions, which is hardly surprising when considering the difficulty of constantly improving the emulation of the Windows API. Varda points out that he preferred working with Linux clients as they were easier to modify and came with less licensing baggage.Linux still runs the server and all of the tools used are open source software. The hardware here is a Intel Xeon E3-1230 with 4GB of RAM. The storage hanging off this machine is a bit more complex than the clients. In addition to the 60GB SSD, it also has 2x1TB drives and a 240GB SDD.When the clients were running Linux, they booted over PXE using a toolchain that will be familiar to anyone who has setup Linux network booting. DHCP pointed the clients to the server which then supplied PXELINUX using TFTP. When booted, file access was accomplished through network block device (NBD). This is a very easy to use system that allows you to serve the contents of a file as a block device over the network. The client computer runs a user mode device driver and the device can be mounted within the file system using the mount command.One snag with offering file access via NBD is that it's difficult to impose any security restrictions on different areas of the file system as the server only sees a single file. The advantage is perfomance as the client operating system simply sees a block device, and besides, these security issues aren't relevant in this setup.Unfortunately, Windows 7 can't use NBD, so, Varda had to switch to iSCSI (which works in both server and client mode under Linux). His network cards are not compliant with this standard when doing a netboot, but fortunately, gPXE came to the rescue, and he boostraps it over PXE. gPXE is also available as an ISO image and is worth knowing about if you encounter an awkward machine that can't manage a network boot. It can also optionally boot from a HTTP server rather than the more traditional TFTP server.According to Varda, booting all 12 machines over the Gigabit Ethernet network is surprisingly fast, and once booted, the machines don't seem noticeably slower than if they were using local storage. Once loaded, most games attempt to load in as much data as possible, filling the RAM, and the the disk and network bandwidth required is small. It's worth noting that these are aspects of this project that might differ from some other thin client scenarios.At time of writing, it doesn't seem as though the local storage of the client machines is being utilized. Instead, the clients boot into Windows from an image on the server that contains the operating system and the games themselves. It uses the copy on write feature of LVM so that any writes from a client are added to a differencing image allocated to that client. As the administrator, Varda can log into the Linux server and authorize changes to the master image for updates etc.SummaryOverall, Varda estimates the total cost of the project at about $40,000, and of course, he needed a property that offered a large physical space in order to house the computers and the gaming workstations. Obviously, this project has stark differences to most thin client projects. The balance between storage, network usage, GPU power and security would not be typical of an office installation, for example. The only letdown is that WINE proved to be insufficiently compatible to run a wide variety of modern games, but that is, perhaps, asking too much of it, and hats off to Varda for trying to make it work.

    I'm using Samsung NP900X3C. I have problem with occasionally connecting to WIFI, with Ubuntu 12.10. Sometimes my computer could not connect to WIFI "blab", neither after reboot computer. • Optimizing drawing of cubes

    - by Christian Frantz
    After googling for hours I've come to a few conclusions, I need to either rewrite my whole cube class, or figure out how to use hardware instancing. I can draw up to 2500 cubes with little lag, but after that my fps drops. Is there a way I can use my class for hardware instancing? Or would I be better off rewriting my class for optimization? public class Cube { public GraphicsDevice device; public VertexBuffer cubeVertexBuffer; public Cube(GraphicsDevice graphicsDevice) { device = graphicsDevice; var vertices = new List<VertexPositionTexture>(); BuildFace(vertices, new Vector3(0, 0, 0), new Vector3(0, 1, 1)); BuildFace(vertices, new Vector3(0, 0, 1), new Vector3(1, 1, 1)); BuildFace(vertices, new Vector3(1, 0, 1), new Vector3(1, 1, 0)); BuildFace(vertices, new Vector3(1, 0, 0), new Vector3(0, 1, 0)); BuildFaceHorizontal(vertices, new Vector3(0, 1, 0), new Vector3(1, 1, 1)); BuildFaceHorizontal(vertices, new Vector3(0, 0, 1), new Vector3(1, 0, 0)); cubeVertexBuffer = new VertexBuffer(device, VertexPositionTexture.VertexDeclaration, vertices.Count, BufferUsage.WriteOnly); cubeVertexBuffer.SetData<VertexPositionTexture>(vertices.ToArray()); } private void BuildFace(List<VertexPositionTexture> vertices, Vector3 p1, Vector3 p2) { vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p1.X, p1.Y, p1.Z, 1, 0)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p1.X, p2.Y, p1.Z, 1, 1)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p2.X, p2.Y, p2.Z, 0, 1)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p2.X, p2.Y, p2.Z, 0, 1)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p2.X, p1.Y, p2.Z, 0, 0)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p1.X, p1.Y, p1.Z, 1, 0)); } private void BuildFaceHorizontal(List<VertexPositionTexture> vertices, Vector3 p1, Vector3 p2) { vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p1.X, p1.Y, p1.Z, 0, 1)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p2.X, p1.Y, p1.Z, 1, 1)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p2.X, p2.Y, p2.Z, 1, 0)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p1.X, p1.Y, p1.Z, 0, 1)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p2.X, p2.Y, p2.Z, 1, 0)); vertices.Add(BuildVertex(p1.X, p1.Y, p2.Z, 0, 0)); } private VertexPositionTexture BuildVertex(float x, float y, float z, float u, float v) { return new VertexPositionTexture(new Vector3(x, y, z), new Vector2(u, v)); } public void Draw(BasicEffect effect) { foreach (EffectPass pass in effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes) { pass.Apply(); device.SetVertexBuffer(cubeVertexBuffer); device.DrawPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, cubeVertexBuffer.VertexCount / 3); } } } The following class is a list that draws the cubes. public class DrawableList<T> : DrawableGameComponent { private BasicEffect effect; private ThirdPersonCam camera; private class Entity { public Vector3 Position { get; set; } public Matrix Orientation { get; set; } public Texture2D Texture { get; set; } } private Cube cube; private List<Entity> entities = new List<Entity>(); public DrawableList(Game game, ThirdPersonCam camera, BasicEffect effect) : base(game) { this.effect = effect; cube = new Cube(game.GraphicsDevice); this.camera = camera; } public void Add(Vector3 position, Matrix orientation, Texture2D texture) { entities.Add(new Entity() { Position = position, Orientation = orientation, Texture = texture }); } public override void Draw(GameTime gameTime) { foreach (var item in entities) { effect.VertexColorEnabled = false; effect.TextureEnabled = true; effect.Texture = item.Texture; Matrix center = Matrix.CreateTranslation(new Vector3(-0.5f, -0.5f, -0.5f)); Matrix scale = Matrix.CreateScale(1f); Matrix translate = Matrix.CreateTranslation(item.Position); effect.World = center * scale * translate; effect.View = camera.view; effect.Projection = camera.proj; effect.FogEnabled = true; effect.FogColor = Color.CornflowerBlue.ToVector3(); effect.FogStart = 1.0f; effect.FogEnd = 50.0f; cube.Draw(effect); } base.Draw(gameTime); } } } There are probably many reasons that my fps is so slow, but I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. I've looked at techcraft as well, but what I have is too specific to what I want the outcome to be to just rewrite everything from scratch

  • GCM: onMessage() from GCMIntentService is never called [migrated]

    - by Shrikant
    I am implementing GCM (Google Cloud Messaging- PUSH Notifications) in my application. I have followed all the steps given in GCM tutorial from developer.android.com My application's build target is pointing to Goolge API 8 (Android 2.2 version). I am able to get the register ID from GCM successfully, and I am passing this ID to my application server. So the registration step is performed successfully. Now when my application server sends a PUSH message to my device, the server gets the message as SUCCESS=1 FAILURE=0, etc., i.e. Server is sending message successfully, but my device never receives the message. After searching alot about this, I came to know that GCM pushes messages on port number 5228, 5229 or 5230. Initially, my device and laptop was restricted for some websites, but then I was granted all the permissions to access all websites, so I guess these port numbers are open for my device. So my question is: I never receive any PUSH message from GCM. My onMessage() from GCMIntenService class is never called. What could be the reason? Please see my following code and guide me accordingly: I have declared following in my manifest: <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" android:targetSdkVersion="8" /> <permission android:name="package.permission.C2D_MESSAGE" android:protectionLevel="signature" /> <!-- App receives GCM messages. --> <uses-permission android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE" /> <!-- GCM connects to Google Services. --> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> <!-- GCM requires a Google account. --> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS" /> <!-- Keeps the processor from sleeping when a message is received. --> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WAKE_LOCK" /> <uses-permission android:name="package.permission.C2D_MESSAGE" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> <receiver android:name="com.google.android.gcm.GCMBroadcastReceiver" android:permission="com.google.android.c2dm.permission.SEND" > <intent-filter> <action android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.intent.RECEIVE" /> <action android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.intent.REGISTRATION" /> <category android:name="packageName" /> </intent-filter> </receiver> <receiver android:name=".ReceiveBroadcast" android:exported="false" > <intent-filter> <action android:name="GCM_RECEIVED_ACTION" /> </intent-filter> </receiver> <service android:name=".GCMIntentService" /> /** * @author Shrikant. * */ public class GCMIntentService extends GCMBaseIntentService { /** * The Sender ID used for GCM. */ public static final String SENDER_ID = "myProjectID"; /** * This field is used to call Web-Service for GCM. */ SendUserCredentialsGCM sendUserCredentialsGCM = null; public GCMIntentService() { super(SENDER_ID); sendUserCredentialsGCM = new SendUserCredentialsGCM(); } @Override protected void onRegistered(Context arg0, String registrationId) { Log.i(TAG, "Device registered: regId = " + registrationId); sendUserCredentialsGCM.sendRegistrationID(registrationId); } @Override protected void onUnregistered(Context context, String arg1) { Log.i(TAG, "unregistered = " + arg1); sendUserCredentialsGCM .unregisterFromGCM(LoginActivity.API_OR_BROWSER_KEY); } @Override protected void onMessage(Context context, Intent intent) { Log.e("GCM MESSAGE", "Message Recieved!!!"); String message = intent.getStringExtra("message"); if (message == null) { Log.e("NULL MESSAGE", "Message Not Recieved!!!"); } else { Log.i(TAG, "new message= " + message); sendGCMIntent(context, message); } } private void sendGCMIntent(Context context, String message) { Intent broadcastIntent = new Intent(); broadcastIntent.setAction("GCM_RECEIVED_ACTION"); broadcastIntent.putExtra("gcm", message); context.sendBroadcast(broadcastIntent); } @Override protected void onError(Context context, String errorId) { Log.e(TAG, "Received error: " + errorId); Toast.makeText(context, "PUSH Notification failed.", Toast.LENGTH_LONG) .show(); } @Override protected boolean onRecoverableError(Context context, String errorId) { return super.onRecoverableError(context, errorId); } }

  • Emulate Mouse Wheel with Synaptics Touchpad

    Is it possible to make the Synaptics Touchpad driver emulate a mouse wheel when scrolling? I can use the touch pad to scroll in Windows Explorer just fine but VMware does not support it. The mouse cursor changes to indicate that scrolling is active but the VMware guest will not respond to it. Since VMware supports the scroll wheel I am looking for a workaround. I just installed Windows 7 (32 bit) on a Medion MD96500 (Intel 2200BG Wireless Card) and then installed the Windows Vista (32 bit) driver. Now, in the "device driver window", the Wireless Card is listed as working/active. If I want to set up a wireless connection, however, I always get the error message "No connections available". Pushing the hardware-switch (or however that thing is called, right next to the keyboard) does not seem to have any effect.

  • Toshiba Satellite L630 broken after bios update

    - by Mustafa Kamal
    I have Toshiba Satellite L630, which has been broken. It had no more OS installed in it. All the disk partition were cleared into one single empty unformatted partition. So I begin to install windows XP on this laptop. Apparently, win XP's driver support for this laptop is very limited. So I have to find almost all important driver (display, sound, etherned, wireless etc) on the net and install it manually one by one. So I start googling, and I got some driver download page from several Toshiba's website (the global version, the europe, asia, etc). Pretty hard to find the exact drivers, but I managed to find pretty good drivers. It's all works quite fine, although still have a few glitches. But everything turned into a big mess when I downloaded the "BIOS Update", which is also listed on Toshiba's official driver directory site. When I installed it, it show a big red warning sign telling me not to do anything while flashing the BIOS . I follow that instruction prudently. The process was finished, and that update BIOS software (it is InsydeH2O BIOS) told me that the BIOS has been succesfully updated and the computer need to restart. So I restart the computer. This is where the problem appear. I can no longer boot to my laptop. The booting process seems to be able to enter windows for a moment (it shows the windows XP loading screen), and then suddenly it just got that hateful blue screen and then instantiy restarts the machine. It goes on a loop. Boot bios - enter XP - blue screen - restart. I can't even try to reinstall my win XP again. Evertime the machine tries to boot to win XP CD, it got the same blue screen as I gets when loading from HDD. Many google search results said that I should open the laptop cover and try to clear CMOS with some kind of jumper or something. Or to unplug/re-plug the CMOS battery. Do I really need to do that? Is there anyway I could do without disassembling my laptop? I read some tricks about booting from USB device but I can't get the exat tools that I need to do that thing... Btw, this is my detailed laptop number photographed from the back of my laptop

  • Printing fails after first print with Centos 6 and HP LaserJet P3015dn printer

    - by Gavin Simpson
    Centos 6 recognises and configures a HP LaserJet P3015dn printer connected via USB. This machine is being configured as a small group file/print server. I can print a test page, which is processed/printed correctly. The next time printing is attempted (say printing a second test page), the page is not printed and the printer is set to disabled. The status of the printer is stated as: Stopped - /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed in the printer configuration dialogue. /var/log/cups/error_log contains this information (first two lines were there prior to the failed print job) E [24/Jun/2004:09:12:57 +0100] Returning HTTP Forbidden for Resume-Printer (ipp://localhost/printers/HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series) from localhost E [24/Jun/2004:09:20:59 +0100] Returning HTTP Forbidden for CUPS-Delete-Printer (ipp://localhost/printers/HP-LaserJet-P3010-Series) from localhost D [24/Jun/2004:09:37:28 +0100] [Job 28] The following messages were recorded from 09:36:43 AM to 09:37:28 AM D [24/Jun/2004:09:37:28 +0100] [Job 28] Adding start banner page "none".
