  i have one windows 2008 server & windows xp clients. one HP2600n is connected to network with network cable, and installed in server and shared. also same printer is shared on xp cleints. the problem is: once cleints send print it come to the server que and stuck there untill we manually restart printer spooler service. once we restart the service all the prints in QUE prints and after that new prints again stuck in QUE till next manually restart. how can we solve this problem? • Drive stopped working on windows server 2003 and I receive a "controller error"

  I can access the server in safe mode. I have a Proliant 360 Hp server with Windows server 2003 R2. The event viewer is completely filled up with this error: the driver detected a controller error on Device\Harddisk3\DR3 I individuated the drive affected. It is drive H that is a secondary non mirrored drive. When I access anything on that drive I receive: "the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" What should I do? Is this just a driver issue or a hard drive failure? Please give me a quick help as my websites are offline due to this. Any suggestion is welcome!

• SQL Server 2005 64bit on 16GB machine uses 3.6GB memory only

  Maximum server memory is set to the maxvalue AWE is disabled (should not be needed in 64 bit anyway) Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 It is a virtual server using VMWare If I look in Task Manager the sqlservr.exe process only uses about 3.6 GB of memory. Is that number not real? Shouldn't it attempt to use all available memory? If I run DBCC MEMORYSTATUS I get: VM Reserved 16670136 VM Committed 3640664 It looks like a memory limit I shouldn't be seeing in a 64 bit environment.. how can I get SQL2005 to use more memory?

• Web server suddenly stopped working

  I have a web server, which was working fine. It also was an FTP server and a Windows Remote Desktop server, all working fine. Someone called our ISP to increase the internet speed, and suddenly nothing works - I can connect with Teamviewer, but HTTP, FTP & RD doesn't work. Disabled firewall. Ran Wireshark - the packets don't come through at all. Set the webserver to port 20111, in case the ISP is blocking port 80, and again, the packets didn't come through at all. (localhost:20111 works fine) Port forwarding is set up for ports 80, 21, 3389 & 20111 to 10.0.0.32 (which is the correct address - checked with ipconfig). Restarted router and computer. I would be very grateful for any help.

• Terminal Server Install -- Add/Remove Program Message on NonAdministrator Machines

  First time poster... My company uses terminal services for one of our remote offices. Data is kept on a different server. OS is Windows Server 2003. Last week, they needed to purchase a program and have it installed on terminal server, which was done. An administrator session was started, the TS was put into install mode and the program was installed. The TS was then put back into execute mode. The install did not require a reboot. Since then, when any user who does not have administrator privileges initiates a remote session and logs in they get a security message that says "Add / Remove programs has been restricted. Please contact your system administrator." The only option is to click OK, which everyone does and after that there are no issues. Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to fix? Thanks!

And after some searching and reading I realised that hyper-v is not supported. Is there any possibilities that I can run my Windows phone 8 emulator on a remote Hyper-V 2012 server? What I can see, it only uses the built-in hyper-v server in windows 8 as default. Can i change it somewhere? /Davy

• Direct Access on Server 2012

  Scenario: Windows Server 2012 with the Remote Access role installed. IP set to static, registered DNS. 3 domain controllers, all running Server 2003 (I suspect this may be the issue) Done so far: DNS registered, firewall turned off after IPsec was applied. Able to ping all 3 DC's with no issues Problem: Going through the DA wizard generates this error. I am logged in as a domain admin, verified that I can ping the DC, verified IPsec allows me to contact it. Since this version hasnt been readily deployed yet, there isnt much help available online from what I can find. Any assistance ayone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I am still new to the server world as far as things are considered. I would fit, user wise, between Superuser.com and serverfault.com (junior admin) Thanks to anyone who may be able to assist!

• unable to kill process / logout on windows server 2003

  My own console .net application stuck in a "ghost" stage. It just shows a window that i can't close. It doesn't show up as a process in the task manager. when i try to "find windows process" using Process Explorer (from sysinternals) it says there is no process that owns that window or something like that. The problem is that it doesn't allow me to logout or reboot the server (remotely) because logoff process keeps waiting on that window to close. shutdown /r /f also is stuck waiting for it. I can probably have somebody go an reboot the server but i'd like to know if there is a way to close that process, close that session or force logout remotely. This is windows server 2003, but i had the same issue on XP just a few days ago.

• Routing based on source address in Windows Server 2008 R2

  I'm implementing a direct routing load balanced solution using Windows Server 2008 R2 as back-end server. I've configured a loopback interface with the external IP address. This works, I am receiving packets with the external IP address and respond to them appropriately. However our infrastructure requires that traffic which is being load-balanced should go through a different gateway then any other traffic originating from the server, ie. updates etc. So basicly I need to route packets based on source address (external IP) to another gateway. The built-in Windows 'route' command allows routing based on destination address only. I've tried setting a default gateway on the loopback interface and mangled with weak/strong host send/receive parameters on the interfaces, however this didn't work. Is there any way around this, possibly using third party tools?

  I'm handling a migration from a on old mac server to a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine running a 12TB(10 usable) RAID5 server. It's using an SMB share and now the OSX 10.5/.6 users can search sometimes it works but takes up to 10 minutes. The OSX 10.7 machine seems to be fine. I've looked in the root of the shared drive for a .Spotlight-V100 file (ls -a) but it doesn't seem to be there. mdutil says indexing is on for that volume and I have cleared the index using mdutil -E /Volumes/MeSharedVolume numerous times. Any ideas?

  Hi Guys, I'm new to linux server. I'm currently trying to get an Ubuntu 10.10 server up and running for the first time and I'm using Webmin for administration. I'm stuck on the setting up the firewall. What I need to do is to ONLY allow a range of IPs (e.g 128.171.21.1 - 128.171.21.100) to access the HTTP server and Webmin.   I've got a Windows Server 08 box on SP1 that is having some problems. We've experienced backup problems and I've traced it down to VSS Writers not responding. From the command line, if I type vssadmin list providers, I get Provider name: 'Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0' Provider type: System Provider Id: {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5} Version: 1.0.0.7 If I type vssadmin list writers, I get this vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool (C) Copyright 2001-2005 Microsoft Corp. Waiting for responses. These may be delayed if a shadow copy is being prepared. I could wait this out for hours and it won't move. I looked up how Server 2008 handles VSS writers, and you can't reregister them like you could in Server 2003 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsserver2008r2general/thread/062cc52c-899b-45f3-8d0c-798b92363f41 Does anyone know how to fix something like this or where to turn next?

The new user profile gets added under Documents & Settings as username.domainname. Deleting the new profile does not allow the original profile to be reverted to. Went logging on to the server again, it creates another new user profile. Nothing was changed in the Active Directory or security settings. How do I get the original profile to be used?

  Is there a way to view the number of dirty pages (cached file pages that need to still be written to disk) in Windows Server 2003? In Windows 7, for example, I can use Performance Monitor and use the "Dirty Pages" counter (one of the cache counters). This counter does not seem to be available in Server 2003. Also on Windows 7 (and other later systems), I can use Sysinternals RAMMap and effectively see the dirty pages on a file-by-file basis. Is there something similar for Server 2003?

I just have slightly different boundary conditions. We plan to serve video to ca. 1,000 users simultaneously. It will be live stream, so the server will receive the stream in HD (1280x720), cache it, reformat to various other resolutions and send it to users.   I want Fiddler and some other programs to run on startup, so it's there and running every time I bring up an instance of my test server on EC2. There's a few questions about running scripts on Startup with Task Scheduler, but this needs to work slightly differently. I have set this up to run on startup but when I RDP into the server I can see Fiddler is running in Task Manager (so I can't manually run a second instance of the program), but it's not viewable on the task bar? So I can't actually see the interface?   At one of my client's sites I need to keep my users unauthorized devices off the wireless. They all know the SSID and Password because many of them have laptops that need the wireless. I'm running out of IP address's and we have sent out numerous emails asking them to stay off, but like most users they ignore IT's email. I'm currently running Server 2003 as the GC/DC (but have 2008 servers in place) and 2 Netgear WNAP320. I've seen several posts similar to what I'm looking for but they seem to deal with Linux.   when the traffic for a website grows i dont think one apache server in a vps is the way to go. i would like to know more about how i then should set up the server side architecture. im not that much into hardware stuff (what kind of cables to use, different cpu architectures etc), but interested in the software architecture: what servers (apache, nginx, squid, varnish etc) to use and how they interact with each other one server in one machine? how many mysql servers. how many apache, nginx servers and so on. how the "machine court" looks like. are there any good books about this area?

  Afternoon. We have three identical terminal servers running Windows Server 2003 SP2, on these servers there are about 250 concurrent users logged on. We're running Roaming Profiles on a central server running Active Directory which cache the profiles locally on each terminal server as well. When one, and just that one, user tries to login she gets this error message (roughly translated from Swedish): "You could not be logged in becouse your principle could not be registered. Check that you're connected to the network or ask your administrator Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." Anyone have an idea about this? I'm stumped ...   Recently I started dealing with SQL Server, my previous experience was in MS-Access. When I'm doing an import/export of a db, from the server to my computer or even in the server, all column with primary key loose the key. Identity is set to false and even bit is not set to the default. How can I can I use an import/export job to make an exact copy of the db and its data? I don't want to have to perform a backup and restore every time I want the same db somewhere else, for another project, etc. I have read about "edit mapping" and the checkbox but that did not helped with the identity specification... and what about the primary key of the tables and the rest of the things?

  I have a Windows 2003 web server with a tree of folders that contains around 100GB of small images. I need to update the permissions on this folder to add a new user with access. I tried to do this by right clicking on the folder and adding the new user but the process never completed. I left it running for around an hour but it started to heavily impact the peformance of the server. Is there any other way to change these folder permissions without affecting server performance?
