• Creating an SQL Compact file: Template or script?

  I am writing an application that writes to SQL Compact files that have a specific schema, and I am now implementing the New File use case. The simplest approach seems to be to use a Template pattern: first, create a template file that lives in the application directory. Then, when the user selects New File, the template is copied to the name and destination specified by the user in a New File dialog. The alternative is a scripted approach: Use the same New File dialog, but dispense with the template file. Instead, create an empty SQL Compact file using the name/destination specified by the user, and then execute a T-SQL script on it from managed code. At this point, I am leaning toward the Template approach, because it is simpler. Is there any reason I should not use that approach? Thanks for your help.

Multi-value schema attributes get considerably more complicated. Say (for the sake of argument) my value is "Projects" and each user may be a list as many projects as necessary. • Sed not working inside bash script

  Hello. I believe this may be a simple question, but I've looked everywhere and tried some workarounds, but I still haven't solved the problem. Problem description: I have to replace a character inside a file and I can do it easily using the command line: sed -e 's/pattern1/pattern2/g' full_path_to_file/file But when I use the same line inside a bash script I can't seem to be able to replace it, and I don't get an error message, just the file contents without the substitution. #!/bin/sh VAR1="patter1" VAR2="patter2" VAR3="full_path_to_file" sed -e 's/${VAR1}/${VAR2}/g' ${VAR3} Any help would be appreciated. • Defining Makefiles variables from a script

  I am creating a Makefile which I want it to be a single file for different architectures, OSes, libraries, etc. To do this I have a build specific XML file which defines the different configuration options for each architecture. The config file is read by Perl (it could be any language) and the Perl output returns something like: var1 := var1_value var2 := var2_value var3 := var3_value What I am trying to do is define this variables in my Makefile. From the makefile I am calling my readconfig script and it is giving the correct output, but I have not been able to get this variables as part of my Makefile. I have tried the use of eval and value, but none of them have work (although it could be an issue of me not knowing how to use them. In overall what I am trying to do is something like: read_config: $(eval (perl '-require "readConfig.pl"')) @echo $(var1) It could be assumed I am using only GNU Make behavior. • Looping an executable to get the result from Python script

  In my python script, I need to call within a for loop an executable, and waiting for that executable to write the result on the "output.xml". How do I manage to use wait() & how do I know when one of my executable is finished generating the result to get the result?   Anyone know of a script (php, python, perl, bash, whatever) that will convert a stylesheet from px to em? Like, it would take input of the filename and base font-size (default 16) and convert all px instances to em? eg: convertpx2ems --file stylesheet.css --base-font-size 16 would convert this: button { font-size:14px; padding:8px 19px 9px; } to something like this: button { font-size: .875em; padding: .5em 1.188em .563em; } ...maybe, is there a way to do this with sass?

• How to package up a Python 3 script with modules

  I created a small script that uses a few 3rd-party modules. I'm not sure how to distribute it. I tried Pyinstaller, but that doesn't seem to work. It can't find the modules. When I give the binary to a co-worker, it says it is looking for files in my home directory ( not his ) and dies. I have found that Pyinstaller is not able to find most modules. I am running Python 3 and installed Pyinstaller with pip from Python 2. It did not work trying to use pip from Python 3. When, I give it a path to my modules, it complains that they are python 3 modules. Just looking for some clarification. Ultimately, I'd like to run this on a linux or OS X box where python and my modules probably won't be installed. I just started Python yesterday and have a ton to learn.

  Attempting to write a check for a login script to see if the username is available. Would the best way to write this query be to check if isset(!_POST[]) for both values (nick and pass) then connect to database WHERE the mysql database for the usernick requested return the user id if the usernick exists evaluate if isset($id) to see if the user name is taken and use that to continue to creating an entry Does this logically sound like a method to check for login without using excessive code sorry for not posting the code, it is on another computer and this computer is locked down by my administrator at work... Also, is there another way to evaluate if a value exists in the database? For instance, instead of setting $id to the return value of the mysql database can i just ping the mysql database for the information and have it return a Boolean result so I am not putting out any user information. • Limit the number of cron jobs runnging a PHP script

  I have a daily cron job that grabs 10 users at a time and does a bunch of stuff with them. There are 1000's of users that are part of that process every day. I don't want the cron jobs to overlap as they are heavy on server load. They call stuff from various APIs so I have timeouts and slow data fetching to contend with. I've tried using a flag to mark a cron job as running, but it's not reliable enough as some PHP scripts may time out or fail in various ways. Is there a good way to stop a cron job from calling the PHP script multiple times, or controlling the number of times it is called, so there are only 3 instances for example? I'd prefer a solution in the PHP if possible. Any ideas? At the moment I'm storing the flag as a value in a database, is using a lock type file any better as in here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/851872/does-a-cron-job-kill-last-cron-execution ?

• Xcode5 post-archive script for Sparkle package no longer works

  Xcode 5 seems to have changed the way it stores the build application package (xxx.app) such that ditto no longer works. In the ../BuildProductsPath/Release/ directory, the app is actually a symlink to .../InstallationBuildProductsLocation/Applications/... MyApp.app - ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/MyApp-emwilkqhlayanxahjpexlpbbkato/Build/Intermediates/ArchiveIntermediates/MyApp/InstallationBuildProductsLocation/Applications/MyApp This breaks the ditto command I was using to create a zip file of the application to put on my Sparkle update server. Anyone have an updated script for building the Sparkle XML and ZIP files? Or know what environment variable I need to use to locate my actual binary after the Archive phase?

• Monitor and Terminate Python script based on system resource use

  What is the "right" or "best" way to monitor the system resources a python script is using and terminate it if the resource use exceeds some predetermined values. In my case memory usage is of concern. I am not asking how to measure the system resource use although I am open to suggestions. As a simple example, let's assume I have a function that finds prime numbers less than some large number and adds them to a list based on some condition. I don't know ahead of time how many prime numbers will satisfy the condition so I what to be sure to terminate the function if I use up to much system memory (8gb lets say). I know that there are ways to monitor the size of python objects. What I don't know is the proper way to monitor the size of the list and exit is to just include a size test in the prime function loop and exit if it exceeds 8gb or if there is an "external" way to monitor and exit.

According to mysql manual you can restart the value of an auto increment column like this: mysql ALTER TABLE tbl AUTO_INCREMENT = 100; However, this is not possible: mysql ALTER TABLE tb2 AUTO_INCREMENT = (SELECT MAX(id) FROM tbl1); I need to perform something like this because I'm filling the tables using a script. Is there another way to achieve it?

  Hi, I am new to Maya and trying to figure out how to use Python in Maya. I wanted to create a shelf in Maya and when I click that shelf, it will execute a file containing python code. First thing, I figured out that we can't simply "source" python script. I followed tutorial from http://www.rtrowbridge.com/blog/2008/11/maya-python-import-scripts/, so now I have a function psource(). In my shelf, I can just call psource("myPythonScript") My problem is I have to somehow register psource() when Maya first loaded. Do you have any idea how to do this? Thanks!

  I've been trying to compare the output of a program to known correct output by using a bash script without piping the output of the program to a file and then using diff on the output file and a correct output file. I've tried setting the variables to the output and correct output and I believe it's been successful but I can't get the string comparison to work correctly. I may be wrong about the variable setting so it could be that. • Publish web application from MSBuild Script using VS2010 targets resets working directory

  I am trying to automatically publish and deploy my .Net 4 web application automatically from a build script to be run by our continuous integration server. I am using the new _WPPCopyWebApplication target from VS2010 to perform the publish, however it appears to reset the current working directory of the msbuild project to c:\ this causes my prebuild steps to fail as they have relative paths to some external tools. The task I am running from our master.build file is as follows: <Target Name="PublishWeb"> <MSBuild Projects="$(ProjectPath)" Targets="ResolveReferences;_WPPCopyWebApplication" Properties="WebProjectOutputDir=$(DeployPath);OutDir=$(TempOutputFolder)$(WebOutputFolder)\;OutputPath=$(ProjectPath)\bin\Debug;" /> </Target> This does not happen when using the legacy _CopyWebApplication. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this problem?

  Hi, I am executing a php call from javascript(jQuery), php sript is sending result back. The problem is that these php scripts are taking some time (milliseconds), and java script is not waiting for them to finish, thus variables are not getting initialized with correct values. The code is simple: $.get("php/validation.php",{'email':email},function(data){ // valid_email now contains true/false alert(data); if(data=="true"){ var valid_email = true;} }); The "alert" is printing true but value of valid_mail is recognized as "false" in the code below. • Run a javascript function on script load

  I am using jQuery. I keep all of my function definitions wrapped in the $(document).ready event in application.js. I have a function from it that I would like to call somewhere in the body of the page I am working on. I was wondering if there is some alternative to the .ready event that will work on a script load. Ideally I would like to do something like: $('application.js').ready( call function ); In the jQuery documentation it only mentions the $(document).ready call but I was wondering if this can be altered or if there is some plain javascript alternative.
