  • How can I view locking on a file on a file?

    - by JamesP
Hi all, We have a database file (foxpro) on a Windows share (2003 server), we're having some problems where the program that writes to this file has to retry as the file is locked, this all happens very quickly and within a few seconds the file is available but the problem is it shouldn't be locked. Does anyone know how we can view what's locking it? Any tools available? Thanks James

  • Firefox appending .xls extension to .xlsx files

    - by Chris Lively
We are serving files with the .xlsx (excel 2007/2010) extension. IE, Chrome, Safari all download the file and open excel just fine. Firefox is being stupid. For some reason it's appending .xls to the extension. I found this: https://support.mozilla.com/bs/questions/758363 However, the instructions weren't very specific and completely unclear to me. How can I tell Firefox not to screw with the file extension? Thanks,

  • HttpSendRequest not getting latest file from server

    - by Doug Kavendek
I am having an issue with my HTTP requests in my app, such that if the remote file is the same size as the local file (even though its modified time is different, as its contents have been changed), attempts to download it return quickly and the newer file is not downloaded. In short, the process I am following is: Setting up an HTTP connection with the INTERNET_FLAG_RESYNCHRONIZE flag and calling HttpSendRequest(); then checking the HTTP status code and finding it to be "200". If the remote file is updated, but remains the same size as the local copy: The local file is unchanged after running the app. If I call HttpQueryInfo() with HTTP_QUERY_LAST_MODIFIED after sending the request, it gives me the actual last modified time of the server's file, which I can see is different from the local file I am trying to have it overwrite. If the remote file is updated, and the file size becomes different from the local copy: It is downloaded and overwrites the local copy as expected. Here's a fairly abridged version of the code, to cut out helpers and error checking: // szAppName = our app name HINTERNET hInternetHandle = InternetOpen( szAppName, INTERNET_OPEN_TYPE_PRECONFIG, NULL, NULL, 0 ); // szServerName = our server name hInternetHandle = InternetConnect( hInternetHandle, szServerName, INTERNET_DEFAULT_HTTP_PORT, NULL, NULL, INTERNET_SERVICE_HTTP, NULL, 0 ); // szPath = the file to download LPCSTR aszDefault[2] = { "*/*", NULL }; DWORD dwFlags = 0 | INTERNET_FLAG_IGNORE_REDIRECT_TO_HTTP | INTERNET_FLAG_IGNORE_REDIRECT_TO_HTTPS | INTERNET_FLAG_KEEP_CONNECTION | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_AUTH | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_AUTO_REDIRECT | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_COOKIES | INTERNET_FLAG_NO_UI | INTERNET_FLAG_RESYNCHRONIZE; HINTERNET hHandle = HttpOpenRequest( hInternetHandle, "GET", szPath, NULL, NULL, aszDefault, dwFlags, 0 ); DWORD dwTimeOut = 10 * 1000; // In milliseconds InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECT_TIMEOUT, &dwTimeOut, sizeof( dwTimeOut ) ); InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_RECEIVE_TIMEOUT, &dwTimeOut, sizeof( dwTimeOut ) ); InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_SEND_TIMEOUT, &dwTimeOut, sizeof( dwTimeOut ) ); DWORD dwRetries = 5; InternetSetOption( hInternetHandle, INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECT_RETRIES, &dwRetries, sizeof( dwRetries ) ); HttpSendRequest( hInternetHandle, NULL, 0, NULL, 0 ); Since I have found I can query the remote file's last modified time, and find it to be accurate, I know it's actually getting to the server. I thought that specifying INTERNET_FLAG_RESYNCHRONIZE would force the file to resynch if it's out of date. Do I have it all wrong? Is this just how it's supposed to work?

  • iphone app to read text files.

    - by bandito40
Hi, Need to edit some of the local text files on my iphone but so far all the apps I have downloaded do not navigate the OS3 file tree for me to load and edit them. I need to do this on my iphone as I can no longer access via ssh or with the iphone cable. One of the files to edit is a ssh config file which is what is not allowing ssh connections. Any ideas on apps or other methods that I could use. Thanks,

  • Listing the contents of a LZMA compressed file?

    - by ssn
Is it possible to list the contents of a LZMA file (.7zip) without uncompressing the whole file? Also, can I extract a single file from the LZMA file? My problem: I have a 30GB .7z file that uncompresses to 5TB. I would like to manipulate the original .7z file without needing to do a full uncompress.

  • Delphi: Alternative to using Reset/ReadLn for text file reading

    - by Ian Boyd
i want to process a text file line by line. In the olden days i loaded the file into a StringList: slFile := TStringList.Create(); slFile.LoadFromFile(filename); for i := 0 to slFile.Count-1 do begin oneLine := slFile.Strings[i]; //process the line end; Problem with that is once the file gets to be a few hundred megabytes, i have to allocate a huge chunk of memory; when really i only need enough memory to hold one line at a time. (Plus, you can't really indicate progress when you the system is locked up loading the file in step 1). The i tried using the native, and recommended, file I/O routines provided by Delphi: var f: TextFile; begin Reset(f, filename); while ReadLn(f, oneLine) do begin //process the line end; Problem withAssign is that there is no option to read the file without locking (i.e. fmShareDenyNone). The former stringlist example doesn't support no-lock either, unless you change it to LoadFromStream: slFile := TStringList.Create; stream := TFileStream.Create(filename, fmOpenRead or fmShareDenyNone); slFile.LoadFromStream(stream); stream.Free; for i := 0 to slFile.Count-1 do begin oneLine := slFile.Strings[i]; //process the line end; So now even though i've gained no locks being held, i'm back to loading the entire file into memory. Is there some alternative to Assign/ReadLn, where i can read a file line-by-line, without taking a sharing lock? i'd rather not get directly into Win32 CreateFile/ReadFile, and having to deal with allocating buffers and detecting CR, LF, CRLF's. i thought about memory mapped files, but there's the difficulty if the entire file doesn't fit (map) into virtual memory, and having to maps views (pieces) of the file at a time. Starts to get ugly. i just want Reset with fmShareDenyNone!

  • How can I fix a broken AVI file?

    - by KeyboardMonkey
I have a broken AVI, it won't play in VLC, Xine or MPlayer. I tried Handbrake (reads the file and resets the source to None), OggConvert, Avidemux and mencoder fail to read the file, I cannot seem to reencode this file. I suspect the header info is corrupt, is there a way to get the a/v streams out with a missing header?

  • WinPE, Startnet.CMD and passing variables to second batch file not working

    - by user140892
I don't know scripting or PowerShell (yes I need to learn something). I'm not an expert batch file maker either. I have a WinPE flash drive which I used to deploy OS images. I have the WIM, drivers and anything needed else outside the WinPE environment to ensure that Updates, changes are easier for me to make. I use the "STARTNET.CMD" batch file which is part of the WinPE. The reason to go through the letter drives is that the WinPE always gets the X letter drive assigned. The flash drive itself can receive a random letter which always changes. My deployment menu is located on the flash drive it self and not inside the WinPE. This is so that if I need to make a change I don't have to re-do the WinPE. I am able to locate the "menu.bat" batch file and launch it. I use a variable to capture the letter drive. I call the second batch file named "menu.bat" and pass the variable to it. When the second batch file loads, I believe that I am calling the variable correctly. If I break out of the batch file I can echo the variable and see the expected reply. The issue is that I can't use the variable to work with anything on the second batch file. In my test, I can get this to work over and over. When it runs from the real USB flash drive it does not work. I removed comments from the second batch file to make it smaller. My issue is that files below all get a message stating that the system cannot find the path specified. Diskpart Imagex.exe bcdboot.exe Why can't I get the varible to properly function when I try to using example "ImageX.exe"? • How to update individual files in a war file

    - by ziggy
Hi guys, I am doing some research in the way i can deploy an application efficiently using a war file. What i currently do is i deliver the war file everytime there is a release. This means everytime there is a change no matter how small the change is i have to build and deliver all files that make up the application. I am thinking that maybe this is not the correct way to do this. For example if there is a change to a css file i have to rebuild the war file which will include all file. This includes recompiling all *.java files as well. In the above example, is it possible to build a war file with just the css file and deploy it to the tomcat server and have Tomcat just replace the css file and leave everything else as is?

  • fwrite to txt-file

    - by timkl
I'm currently trying to write to a txt-file with PHP, I've found this small script: <?php $filename = 'testFile.txt'; $somecontent = "Add this to the file\n"; if (is_writable($filename)) { if (!$handle = fopen($filename, 'a')) { echo "Cannot open file ($filename)"; exit; } if (fwrite($handle, $somecontent) === FALSE) { echo "Cannot write to file ($filename)"; exit; } echo "Success, wrote ($somecontent) to file ($filename)"; fclose($handle); } else { echo "The file $filename is not writable"; } ?> I get a success-message, but nothing is written to the file. Even if I delete the txt-file I still get the success-message Does anybody know how to troubleshoot a situation like this?

  • Enabling vim file type plugin

    - by person
In my .vimrc file I have this line.. filetype plugin indent on and then in ~/.vim/ftplugin/py.vimrc (I've also tried saving it as a .vim file) I've copied and pasted a vimrc file for python standards and have enabled all of the suggested settings in it (uncommented them). When I create and open a test.py file and do something like a tab, it goes 8 spaces instead of 4. Not sure what's going wrong.

  • raid 6 vs raid 10? which would you choose.

    - by dasko
my choice would be raid 6 for a file server since you can lose two drives and it does not matter which set of two can die. from what i understand with raid 10 you can lose two drives but if they happen to be off the same raid 1 then you are a out of luck? any suggestions? basic file server with about 200gb of data and it would act as a single point of backup for other workstations and servers. thanks in advance.

  • Using wget to save sequential files as well as renaming the file extension

    - by Ian
I run a cron job that requests a snapshot from a remote webcam at a local address: wget http://user:[email protected]/snapshot.cgi This creates the files snapshot.cgi, snapshot.cgi.1, snapshot.cgi.2, each time it's run. My desired result would be for the file to be named similar to file.1.jpg, file.2.jpg. Basically, sequentially or date/time named files with the correct file extension instead of .cgi. Any ideas?
