  • Visual Studio project using the Quality Center API remains in memory

    Hi, Currently developing a connector DLL to HP's Quality Center. I'm using their (insert expelative) COM API to connect to the server. An Interop wrapper gets created automatically by VStudio. My solution has 2 projects: the DLL and a tester application - essentially a form with buttons that call functions in the DLL. Everything works well - I can create defects, update them and delete them. When I close the main form, the application stops nicely. But when I call a function that returns a list of all available projects (to fill a combo box), if I close the main form, VStudio still shows the solution as running and I have to stop it. I've managed to pinpoint a single function in my code that when I call, the solution remains "hung" and if I don't, it closes well. It's a call to a property in the TDC object get_VisibleProjects that returns a List (not the .Net one, but a type in the COM library) - I just iterate over it and return a proper list (that I later use to fill the combo box): public List<string> GetAvailableProjects() { List<string> projects = new List<string>(); foreach (string project in this.tdc.get_VisibleProjects(qcDomain)) { projects.Add(project); } return projects; } My assumption is that something gets retained in memory. If I run the EXE outside of VStudio it closes - but who knows what gets left behind in memory? My question is - how do I get rid of whatever calling this property returns? Shouldn't the GC handle this? Do I need to delve into pointers? Things I've tried: getting the list into a variable and setting it to null at the end of the function Adding a destructor to the class and nulling the tdc object Stepping through the tester function application all the way out, whne the form closes and the Main function ends - it closes, but VStudio still shows I'm running.   • Converting an int64 value to a Number object in JavaScript

    I have a COM object which has a method that returns an unsigned int64 (VT_UI8) value. We have an HTML page which contains some JavaScript which can load the COM object and make the call to that method, to retrieve the value as such: var foo = MyCOMObject.GetInt64Value(); This value can easily be displayed to the user in a message dialog using: alert(foo); or displayed on the page by: document.getElementById('displayToUser').innerHTML = foo; However, we cannot use this value as a Number (e.g. if we try to multiply it by 2) without the page throwing "Number expected" errors. If we check "typeof(foo)" it returns "unknown". I've found a workaround for this by doing the following: document.getElementById('displayToUser').innerHTML = foo; var bar = parseInt(document.getElementById('displayToUser').innerHTML); alert(bar*2); What I need to know is how to make that process more efficient. Specifically, is there a way to cast foo to a String explicitly, rather than having to set some document element's innerHTML to foo and then retrieve it from that. I wouldn't mind calling something like: alert(parseInt((string)foo) * 2); Even better would be if there is a way to directly convert the int64 to a Number, without going through the String conversion, but I hold out less hope for that.

  • Convert IDispatch* to a string?

    I am converting an old VB COM object (which I didn't write) to C++ using ATL. One of the methods, according to the IDL, takes an IDispatch* as a parameter and the documentation and samples for this method claim that you can pass either a string (which is the progid of an object that will be created and used by the control) or an IDispatch* to an object that has already been created. How on earth do I implement this in ATL? For example, the IDL: [id(1)] HRESULT Test(IDispatch* obj); The samples (which are all JScript): obj.Test("foo.bar"); or var someObject = new ActiveXObject("foo.bar"); obj.Test(someObject); To make matters even more bizarre the actual VB code that implements this method actually declares the 'obj' parameter as a string! However, it all seems to work. Can you even pass a string to a COM method that takes an IDispatch*? If so, can I determine that the IDispatch* is actually a string in my C++ ATL code? Even better, if it's an IDispatch that implements a specific interface I will want to call methods on it, or instantiate an object if it's a string. Any ideas welcome!

  • Do the new NoPIA and Type Equivalence features in C#/.NET 4.0 mean Microsoft.mshtml.dll is no longer

    I'm maintaining a WPF based application which contains a WinForms based WebBrowser control that based on the IE web browser control. When we deploy, we have had to also supply Microsoft.mshtml.dll and do some custom configuration stuff for our ClickOnce publishing process as well in order to get things to work. I'm curious that with the new NoPIA and Type Equivalence features and dynamic type capabilities in C# 4.0 can we expect that if we upgrade that we can remove the dependencies on the Microsoft.mshtml.dll assembly? If so this will not only reduce the size of our deployment quite a bit but will also simplify our publishing process as well. It is my understanding that we should be able embed the types that normally get automatically generated into extra assemblies for COM types such as the MapPoint Control by Visual Studio. I don't know if this also applies to the Microsoft.mshtml.dll or even how it is done even in the most simple of cases. If somebody could provide an explanation about what the practical impact of these new features are on a project that relies on COM interop and especially the Microsoft.mshtml.dll assembly it would be of great help to me.

  • C# Late Binding for Parameterized Property

    I'm trying to use late binding to connect to a COM automation API provided by a program called Amibroker, using a C# WinForms project. So far I've been able to connect to everything in the API except one item, which I believe to be a "parameterized property" based on extensive Googling. Here's what the API specification looks like according to the docs (Full version here: http://www.amibroker.com/guide/objects.html): Property Filter(ByVal nType As Integer, ByVal pszCategory As String) As Long [r/w] A javascript snippet to update the value looks like this: AB = new ActiveXObject("Broker.Application"); AA = AB.Analysis; AA.Filter( 0, "market" ) = 0; Using the following C# late-binding code, I can get the value of the property, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to set the value: object[] parameter = new object[2]; parameter[0] = Number; parameter[1] = Type; object filters = _analysis.GetType().InvokeMember("Filter", BindingFlags.GetProperty, null, _analysis, parameter); So far I have tried: using BindingFlags.SetProperty, BindingFlags.SetField casting the returned object to a PropertyInfo object and trying to update the value using it adding extra object containing the value to the parameters object various other things as last-ditch efforts From what I can see, this should be straight-forward, but I'm finding the late binding in C# to be cumbersome at best. The property looks like a method call to me, which is what is throwing me off. How does one assign a value to a method, and what would the prototype for late-binding C# code look like for it?   • Why won't my Setup Project Perform my Custom Registration Process

    I am trying to write an Setup Project/Installer for a class library driver that I wrote in C# using Visual Studio 2008. The driver project has a section of code that looks like this... [ComRegisterFunction] public static void RegisterASCOM(Type t) { Trace.WriteLine("Registration Started."); DoRegistration(true); } In the driver project Properties - "Assembly Information" I have set checked the box that says Make COM-Visible = true. I added a Setup Project to the solution in VS, added the output dll from the driver project so that it installs on the target machine and set the Register property of the dll to "vsdraCOM". So, my understanding is that when the installer runs it SHOULD execute the methods of the dll that are marked with [COMRegisterFunction]. Using SysInternals Debug View I can monitor when the above code snippet is hit by watching for the "Registration started" text to show up in the window. When I build the solution, I can see the text show up so I know the driver is registering properly. The problem is that when I run the installer, I don't think it is doing the registration bit. I see nothing show up in Debug View. And if i try to access my driver via another application I get an error saying it "Cannot create ActiveX object". Why does the registration not occur during the install process? The driver does register for COM but it does NOT call my custom registration method. Does anyone have and suggestions of what I could be missing? Is there another way I can debug this? (I can provide more code if anyone want's to take a look!!)

    I've looked into a number of video hosting options, but none seem to provide a .mp4 link to your uploaded video, which I require for use in a project using BigVideo.js. The only service I've found to provide this functionality so far is VimeoPro, which I can't afford. Is there any way to do this for free in YouTube? Or, otherwise, are there any other (preferably low- or no-cost) video hosting providers that will provide a .mp4 link?

  • curl http_code of 000

    I have a shell script that I use to monitor loading times and response codes on my live server cluster. It runs a total of 250 iterations every 5 minutes, distributed across 10 servers and 6 sites. It uses curl with the -w flag to return pertinent information which is then parsed by my shell script: curl -svw 'monitor_load_times %{time_total} %{http_code}' -b 'server=$server' -m 15 -o /dev/null $url 2>&1 This information is then parsed by a graphing script that can display a number of different responses. However, curl will occasionally return a response code of "000". When this happens, it seems to happen multiple times at once despite being distributed over many iterations: What I'm trying to work out is if this is a client-side issue that's skewing my results or if it's actually indicative of a server-side problem affecting my entire cluster. Does 000 mean that the connection was dropped? Database entries corresponding to curl iterations with that response code return "0.000" for the time_total value. All of the search results I've found for curl returning a code of 000 are related to HTTPS being unsupported, but all of my test URLs are HTTP. (The spike in 500 errors is a completely unrelated issue that affected my servers last night.)

The web service is running on Glassfish and is soap 1.1, I've tried using all the packaged wcf bindings but have not been able to get them to work. I started down the path of using a MessageInspector, and wrote one but then realized there must be a better way, surely WCF provides some way to insert saml 2.0 assertions. I've made the most progress writing a custom binding - i've been able to get the timestamp and signature nodes in the soap header, but cannot for the life of me figure out the saml assertion.   • PHP-FPM and APC for shared hosting?

    We are looking into finding a way to get APC to only create one cache per account / site. This can be done with Fastcgi (last update 2006…) but with Fastcgid APC will have to create multiple caches for multiple processes run by the same account. To get around this problem, we have been looking into PHP-FPM PHP process manager allows multiple PHP processes to share a single APC cache. But from what I have read (I hope I'm wrong) , even if you create a pool per process, all sites accross all pools will share the same APC cache. This brings us back to the same problem as with shared Memcached: it's not secure ! On php-fpm's site I read that you can chroot php-fpm pools and define a specific UID and GID per pool… if this is the case then shouldn't APC have to use this user and not have access to other pools cache ? If so what would be the impact of running say 800 processes of php-fpm ? Would it be mainly memory ? If so how can I work out what the memory impact would be ? I guess that it would be better to run 800 times php-fpm then to have accounts creating multiple APC caches for a single site ? If on average an account creates a 50MB cache and creates 3 caches per account that makes 150Mb per account which makes 120GB… However if each account uses on average only 50Mb that would make 40GB We will have at least 128GB of ram on our next server so 40GB is acceptable if running 800 x PHP-FPM does not create an overhead of more than 20GB ! What do you think is PHP-FPM the best way to go to provide secure APC cache on shared hosting with a server that has a decent amount of memory ? Or should I be looking at another system ? Thanks !

    I've seen this question asked before, but I've tried various solutions proposed, to no avail. Essentially, I have two EJB enterprise applications, that need to communicate with one another. The first is a web application, the second is a search server - they are located on different development servers, not in the same node, cell, or JVM, although they are on the same physical box. I'm doing the JNDI lookup via IIOP, and the URL I am using is as follows: iiop://searchserver:2819 In my hosts file, I've set searchserver to 127.0.0.1. The ports for my search server are bound to this hostname too. However, when the web app (that uses Spring btw) attempts to lookup the search EJB, it fails with the following error. This is driving me nuts, surely this kind of comms between the servers should be fairly simple to get working. I've checked the ports and they are correct.     I have one local Apache instance running with mod_cache (+ disk & mem) enabled, and it seems to cache content from my appserver fine. My app server sets Expiration headers and Last-modified. Yet, when deploying on a production server with the same modules enabled, I am getting the following error in my logs: blablabla not cached. Reason: Query string present but no explicit expiration time Any clues on why Apache is not caching content? The only difference is the Apache version. Locally I am running 2.2. I looking for fast way to save records on 2nd application quickly, i came across the idea of "fire and forget" , will JMX suit for this scenario? from my understanding jmx will gurantee message delivery. Let say i need to call at least 1000 random requests per seconds to 2nd application should i use jmx? http request? or xmpp instead?

The web service is running on Glassfish and is soap 1.1, I've tried using all the packaged wcf bindings but have not been able to get them to work. I started down the path of using a MessageInspector, and wrote one but then realized there must be a better way, surely WCF provides some way to insert saml 2.0 assertions. I've made the most progress writing a custom binding - i've been able to get the timestamp and signature nodes in the soap header, but cannot for the life of me figure out the saml assertion.   • Proper way to bind WCF webservice to both HTTP (for dev) and HTTPS (for production)

    Seems like this would be fairly straightfoward but I can't figure it out. In lieu of using an ASMX web service, I'm trying to go with WCF.. and finding it hard to figure out bindings. I would like to be able to use HTTP to connect to the WCF service for local development (and on our "staging" server), but require HTTPS on our production server. Should this be possible with two bindings? I cannot get it to work. If someone could provide an example of just a very basic HTTP and HTTPS WCF setup, I'd be eternally grateful. Or point me to a book/website/etc. which solves all the mysteries of WCF.. that'd be great. Because right now it's looking easier to just go back to ASMX.

  • Unusual Caching Issue with IE 7/8 and IIS 7

    We recently moved a site into production running Server 2008 x64 and IIS 7. The ASP.NET pages apparently load just fine, but when it comes to IE 7 and 8, a weird caching issue has cropped up with the CSS and JavaScript files on the page. On a very sporadic schedule, IE does not get all the files necessary to compose the page (i.e. CSS and JS files). When I manually go to the missing files from the address bar, they come back from local cache as empty. I F5 these source files and magically they come down properly. I refresh the site after loading a few files and the cache seems to hold. This problem has only been reproduced (again, sporadically) on IE 7 and 8 running XP. Chrome and Firefox appear to be immune. We have set IIS to use server-side kernel caching for CSS, JS and images. We also have set to expire content for the App_Themes and Scripts directories to expire immediately. One initial thought it was a SWF loading an FLV on page load. These fixes have not remedied the problem. We had no problems on our staging server which is using Server 2003 and IIS 6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. P.S.
