  • Iterating thorough JSON with jQuery/Javascript

    I am trying to fill a table with JSON data. When I run the following script I get only the last entry of 10. I must have to do some sort of .append() or something.     I'm developing a registration page and wish to use JS to dynamically choose avatar selection based on gender. Here's what I have so far.. <select name="gender"> <option value="Male">Male </option> <option value="Female">Female </option> </select> And that should update options in this based on gender: <select name="avatar"> <option value="Trainer">Trainer </option> </select> <br /> <img src="images/trainers/male/Trainer.gif" /> I can't wrap my head around example code or concepts, I just need an example of how to fill 2-3 values into the 'avatar' selectbox based on gender, female or male, also how can I make 'Trainer' part of 'Trainer.gif' become dynamic? based on the avatar they choose?

    I would like to replace div tags for p tags but only when the div tag does not have a class. So this: <div class="myDiv"> <div>sdfglkhj sdfgkhl sdfkhgl sdf</div> <div>dsf osdfghjksdfg hsdfg</div> </div> Would become: <div class="myDiv"> <p>sdfglkhj sdfgkhl sdfkhgl sdf</p> <p>dsf osdfghjksdfg hsdfg</p> </div> I've tried .replace("<div>", "<p>").replace("</div>","</p>") but this replaces the closing tag of the one with a class.

  • Javascript/iframe/embed/object question

    OK, so here is my issue. I'm building a system which will allow people to embed lists of links on their pages. When the link is clicked, i'd like to use something like Lightview or Lightwindow to open it up over the whole window, not just in the iframe. I don't have access to the page that the user will be embedding this object into. Everything I've tried so far tells me that I can't open anything over the parent window, since I don't have access to it from the iframe or object, javacript security issue. However, I've seen sites that do that kind of overlay. so it must be possible. If anyone can point me to any resources that could help, that would be great. if it matters, i'm using Ruby on Rails...   • Access event.target in IE8 unobstrusive Javascript

    The following function gets the target element in a dropdown menu: function getTarget(evt){ var targetElement = null; //if it is a standard browser if (typeof evt.target != 'undefined'){ targetElement = evt.target; } //otherwise it is IE then adapt syntax else{ targetElement = evt.srcElement; } //return id of element when hovering over or if (targetElement.nodeName.toLowerCase() == 'li'){ return targetElement; } else if (targetElement.parentNode.nodeName.toLowerCase() == 'li'){ return targetElement.parentNode; } else{ return targetElement; } Needless to say, it works in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera but it does not in IE8 (and I guess in previous versions as well). When I try to debug it with IE8 I get the error "Member not Found" on the line: targetElement = evt.srcElement; along with other subsequent errors, but I think this is the key line. Any help will be appreciated.

    I've read this question to figure out how to set float:none on an element which already has float:right set with class. I used element.style.cssFloat = "none", but this just added a new style property cssFloat which didn't over-ride the existing float:right. I've now fixed it using the adding/removing classes method. But is there a way of over-riding existing float rules in ie without having to use classes?

  • firefox and javascript redirection

    Hello there, I currently have a issue with firefox, where all other browser behave in the right way - even IE6! What I want to do is redirection to a subpage but leaving a history entry. There are 2 methods of rewriting the url as far as I know: window.location = "some.url"; - redirect to some.url with history entry window.location.replace("some.url"); - redirect without history entry So I have to use the first one and tested in the firebug console everthing works fine. Now there is the kind of strange part of this question: the same statement, that worked fine in the console doesn't in some jQuery callback handler: jQuery("#selector").bind("submit", function() { $.getJSON("some_cool_json", function(response) { var redirect_path = response.path; window.location = redirect_path; }); return false; }); where response_path is set correctly, I checked it! Even the redirection is working correctly, but there is no history entry created. Any ideas on that one? Would be great! ;) Cheers Joe

  • JavaScript: Change to Absolute Positioning

    I'm trying to center a page on any resolution while still being able to use absolute positioning to move pictures. I figure that the best way would be to have a table positioned relatively in the beginning in the center of the page, then change it to absolute positioning in the onload of the page. I think the correct line is: document.getElementById("Object").style.position = "absolute"; However, I put an alert box after it asking where the left side of the object is, I get undefined. But, if I directly assign it to a position (Object.style.left = 500) I will get that number. So I can assign it a value, meaning it is in absolute position, but I cannot pull a value out of that. Kind of confusing but hopefully it makes sense and someone knows what to do. Thanks.

  • Eclipse Javascript code assist problem in using WTP

    Hi, I'm new to WTP so excuse me if the solution to this is obvious. When i define and use a class from within the same file i get nice code assist help, i also get code assist for classes from the standard libraries. Unortunatly, when i try to use code and declarations from one file in another file i no longer get t he nice code assist features. I have searched the web and tried a couple of things, making shoure JS is enabled for the project, making sure the folder the scripts are in is added to the JS source folder list and even trying making a new folder with the decleration files in and adding it as a library. I would really like ot get this feature working so any help would be appreciated.

  • Proper way to format date from database using javascript/jquery

    Hi all, I am calling my database which contains a datetime datatype. The date looks like this: 2005-05-23 16:06:00.000 I would like to display this in a table when a user selects a certain item from a list. I call my controller action and return Json of all the times and put them in a table. The problem is the date is completely wrong. What is displayed is this: /Date(1255470180000)/ The date that is returned isn't even parsable (which I don't want to do anyway) so I can't even get the data if I wanted to. Any ideas?
