  • Parsing URL error

    - by user577875
It didn't seem like there was a post about this, so here goes. I've been working on a simple app to grab my time table from my school, and get it on my phone. Currently I'm working on the port on android but I've hit an issue. I get the error: java.io.IOException: -1 error loading URL urladress. Code: public void updateTimeTable(){ //Get UID and Birthday SharedPreferences prefs = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(getBaseContext()); String uid = prefs.getString("uid", "000000"); String fods = prefs.getString("fodsdag", "000000"); //Set URL String url = "http://unv1.aalborg-stu.dk/cgi-bin/elevskema.pl?ugen=0&unavn=" + uid + "&fodsdag=" + fods; try { Document doc = Jsoup.connect(url).get(); Elements td = doc.getElementsByTag("td"); //ArrayList<String> tdArray = new ArrayList<String>(); // for (Element tds : td) { // String tdText = tds.text(); // tdArray.add(tdText); //} //String[] data = tdArray.toArray(new String[tdArray.size()]); } catch (IOException e ){ Log.e("Parser", "shite", e); } Context context = getApplicationContext(); CharSequence text = url; int duration = Toast.LENGTH_SHORT; Toast toast = Toast.makeText(context, text, duration); toast.show(); } I've commented some lines out to identify where the issue is, and it seems it's at the actual parsing. Anywho, screenshot of the error I get: Screenshot I got about 4 days worth of Java experience so forgive me if it's something silly. Best Regards

  • Looking for Simplified Overview of EJB3

    - by sdoca
Hi I'm looking for a simplified overview of EJB3 components. I seem to understand most of the pieces of the puzzle, but can't quite get them to fit together in my brain as a full picture. I've developed numerous web applications (wars) that have been deployed on Tomcat before, but not a full-fledged EE application (ear). I would like the overview to be as generic as possible. I'm not looking for a tutorial on how to set up EJB3 on Glassfish built in NetBeans or some other vendor specific tutorial that's more about the IDE than the technology. I keep reading about Java, ejb-jar, web and ear modules but am not clear on what these different modules contain and how to use them to put together my app. In my case, I want to write a simple database CRUD web application. The first step is simple; create entity classes that model the database tables my app will be using. I plan on using annotations. Should I create a jar that contains just these enity classes? Is this the ejb-jar module (sometimes referred to as the Java module)? Next, I'll need some business logic classes that make use of the entity classes. These are the session beans (stateless or stateful) correct? Should these be packaged in the same jar as the entity classes or a separate jar? Finally, I'll need some sort of web interface (I'll be creating a JSF portlet) application that makes use of the both the session and entity beans. Together with the above jar(s), this will be my war? Assuming the above to be correct, what is involved in creating an ear? Forgive me if this post is vague, but I'm having a hard time defining what it is I don't understand. Thanks for any help!

  • Is XML-RPC bad used as a protocol for a public API implementation?

    - by Jack Duluoz
I need to implement a web API for a project I'm working on in this period. I read there are many standard protocols to do it: XML-RPC, SOAP, REST. Apparently, the XML-RPC one is the easiest one to implement and use from what I saw, but I didn't find anything about using it to implement an API. Instead I found many tutorial about creating a REST API in PHP, for example. Is there any counter-indication for using XML-RPC to implement a public web API? Also, more generally speaking, I could (sort of) define a custom protocol for my API, to keep things simpler (i.e. accepting only GET request containing the parameters I need): would this be so bad? Is using a standard protocol a must-do?

  • Why do some APIs provide mostly interfaces, not classes?

    - by Lord Torgamus
Some Java APIs provide a large number of interfaces and few classes. For example, the Stellent/Oracle UCM API is composed of roughly 80% interfaces/20% classes, and many of the classes are just exceptions. What is the technical reason for preferring interfaces to classes? Is it just an effort to minimize coupling? To improve encapsulation/information hiding? Something else?

  • Can a lambda can be used to change a List's values in-place ( without creating a new list)?

    - by Saint Hill
I am trying to determine the correct way of transforming all the values in a List using the new lambdas feature in the upcoming release of Java 8 without creating a **new** List. This pertains to times when a List is passed in by a caller and needs to have a function applied to change all the contents to a new value. For example, the way Collections.sort(list) changes a list in-place. What is the easiest way given this transforming function and this starting list: String function(String s){ return [some change made to value of s]; } List<String> list = Arrays.asList("Bob", "Steve", "Jim", "Arbby"); The usual way of applying a change to all the values in-place was this: for (int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++) { list.set(i, function( list.get(i) ); } Does lambdas and Java 8 offer: an easier and more expressive way? a way to do this without setting up all the scaffolding of the for(..) loop?

  • Iptables config breaks Java + Elastic Search communication

    - by Agustin Lopez
I am trying to set up a firewall for a server hosting a java app and ES. Both are on the same server and communicate to each other. The problem I am having is that my firewall configuration prevents java from connecting to ES. Not sure why really.... I have tried lot of stuff like opening the port range 9200:9400 to the server ip without any luck but from what I know all communication inside the server should be allowed with this configuration. The idea is that ES should not be accessible from outside but it should be accessible from this java app and ES uses the port range 9200:9400. This is my iptables script: echo -e Deleting rules for INPUT chain iptables -F INPUT echo -e Deleting rules for OUTPUT chain iptables -F OUTPUT echo -e Deleting rules for FORWARD chain iptables -F FORWARD echo -e Setting by default the drop policy on each chain iptables -P INPUT DROP iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT iptables -P FORWARD DROP echo -e Open all ports from/to localhost iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT echo -e Open SSH port 22 with brute force security iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -m state --state NEW -m recent --set --name SSH --rsource iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -m recent --rcheck --seconds 30 --hitcount 4 --rttl --name SSH --rsource -j REJECT --reject-with tcp-reset iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -m recent --rcheck --seconds 30 --hitcount 3 --rttl --name SSH --rsource -j LOG --log-prefix "SSH brute force " iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -m recent --update --seconds 30 --hitcount 3 --rttl --name SSH --rsource -j REJECT --reject-with tcp-reset iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT echo -e Open NGINX port 80 iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT echo -e Open NGINX SSL port 443 iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT echo -e Enable DNS iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --sport 53 --dport 1024:65535 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p udp -m udp --sport 53 --dport 1024:65535 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT And I get this in the java app when this config is in place: org.elasticsearch.cluster.block.ClusterBlockException: blocked by: [SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE/1/state not recovered / initialized];[SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE/2/no master]; at org.springframework.beans.factory.annotation.AutowiredAnnotationBeanPostProcessor.postProcessPropertyValues(AutowiredAnnotationBeanPostProcessor.java:292) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.populateBean(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:1185) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.doCreateBean(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:537) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.createBean(AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java:475) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractBeanFactory$1.getObject(AbstractBeanFactory.java:304) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.getSingleton(DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.java:228) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractBeanFactory.doGetBean(AbstractBeanFactory.java:300) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.AbstractBeanFactory.getBean(AbstractBeanFactory.java:195) at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory.preInstantiateSingletons(DefaultListableBeanFactory.java:700) at org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext.finishBeanFactoryInitialization(AbstractApplicationContext.java:760) at org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext.refresh(AbstractApplicationContext.java:482) at org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader.configureAndRefreshWebApplicationContext(ContextLoader.java:403) Do any of you see any problem with this configuration and ES? • Optimal Data Structure for our own API

    - by vermiculus
I'm in the early stages of writing an Emacs major mode for the Stack Exchange network; if you use Emacs regularly, this will benefit you in the end. In order to minimize the number of calls made to Stack Exchange's API (capped at 10000 per IP per day) and to just be a generally responsible citizen, I want to cache the information I receive from the network and store it in memory, waiting to be accessed again. I'm really stuck as to what data structure to store this information in. Obviously, it is going to be a list. However, as with any data structure, the choice must be determined by what data is being stored and what how it will be accessed. What, I would like to be able to store all of this information in a single symbol such as stack-api/cache. So, without further ado, stack-api/cache is a list of conses keyed by last update: `(<csite> <csite> <csite>) where <csite> would be (1362501715 . <site>) At this point, all we've done is define a simple association list. Of course, we must go deeper. Each <site> is a list of the API parameter (unique) followed by a list questions: `("codereview" <cquestion> <cquestion> <cquestion>) Each <cquestion> is, you guessed it, a cons of questions with their last update time: `(1362501715 <question>) (1362501720 . <question>) <question> is a cons of a question structure and a list of answers (again, consed with their last update time): `(<question-structure> <canswer> <canswer> <canswer> and ` `(1362501715 . <answer-structure>) This data structure is likely most accurately described as a tree, but I don't know if there's a better way to do this considering the language, Emacs Lisp (which isn't all that different from the Lisp you know and love at all). The explicit conses are likely unnecessary, but it helps my brain wrap around it better. I'm pretty sure a <csite>, for example, would just turn into (<epoch-time> <api-param> <cquestion> <cquestion> ...) Concerns: Does storing data in a potentially huge structure like this have any performance trade-offs for the system? I would like to avoid storing extraneous data, but I've done what I could and I don't think the dataset is that large in the first place (for normal use) since it's all just human-readable text in reasonable proportion. (I'm planning on culling old data using the times at the head of the list; each inherits its last-update time from its children and so-on down the tree. To what extent this cull should take place: I'm not sure.) Does storing data like this have any performance trade-offs for that which must use it? That is, will set and retrieve operations suffer from the size of the list? Do you have any other suggestions as to what a better structure might look like?

  • Padding error when using RSA Encryption in C# and Decryption in Java

    - by Matt Shaver
Currently I am receiving the following error when using Java to decrypt a Base64 encoded RSA encrypted string that was made in C#: javax.crypto.BadPaddingException: Not PKCS#1 block type 2 or Zero padding The setup process between the exchange from .NET and Java is done by creating a private key in the .NET key store then from the PEM file extracted, created use keytool to create a JKS version with the private key. Java loads the already created JKS and decodes the Base64 string into a byte array and then uses the private key to decrypt. Here is the code that I have in C# that creates the encrypted string: public string Encrypt(string value) { byte[] baIn = null; byte[] baRet = null; string keyContainerName = "test"; CspParameters cp = new CspParameters(); cp.Flags = CspProviderFlags.UseMachineKeyStore; cp.KeyContainerName = keyContainerName; RSACryptoServiceProvider rsa = new RSACryptoServiceProvider(cp); // Convert the input string to a byte array baIn = UnicodeEncoding.Unicode.GetBytes(value); // Encrypt baRet = rsa.Encrypt(baIn, false); // Convert the encrypted byte array to a base64 string return Convert.ToBase64String(baRet); } Here is the code that I have in Java that decrypts the inputted string: public void decrypt(String base64String) { String keyStorePath = "C:\Key.keystore"; String storepass = "1234"; String keypass = "abcd"; byte[] data = Base64.decode(base64String); byte[] cipherData = null; keystore = KeyStore.getInstance("JKS"); keystore.load(new FileInputStream(keyStorePath), storepass.toCharArray()); RSAPrivateKey privateRSAKey = (RSAPrivateKey) keystore.getKey(alias, keypass.toCharArray()); Cipher cipher = Cipher.getInstance("RSA/ECB/PKCS1Padding"); cipher.init(Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, privateRSAKey); cipherData = cipher.doFinal(data); System.out.println(new String(cipherData)); } Does anyone see a step missing or where the padding or item needs to be changed? I have done hours of reading on this site and others but haven't really found a concrete solution. You're help is vastly appreciated. Thanks. -Matt

  • How does Google App Engine precompile Java ?

    - by Thilo
App Engine uses a "precompilation" process with the Java bytecode of an app to enhance the performance of the app in the Java runtime environment. Precompiled code functions identically to the original bytecode. Is there any detailed information what this does?

  • Julian day of the year in Java

    - by Mark
I have seen the "solution" at http://www.rgagnon.com/javadetails/java-0506.html, but it doesn't work correctly. E.g. yesterday (June 8) should have been 159, but it said it was 245. So, does someone have a solution in Java for getting the current date's three digit Julian day (not Julian date - I need the day this year)? Thanks! Mark

  • Sun Java Realtime System on VirtualMachine / cloud

    - by portoalet
Just wondering if anybody can run/compile application for Sun Java Realtime system on a VM such as VMWare or on the Cloud such as on Amazon EC2 ? I know it is not ideal running Realtime java on a virtualized infrastructure, but it makes things easier. (Otherwise I just have to install SLES SP2 on physical hardware.)

  • Parameter parsing with Java Restlet

    - by Leaf
I'm trying to make a calculator web service that has more than 10 parameters. Is there any function in the Java Restlet or in Java itself that allows you to see the parameter ids? e.g. http://mywebsite.com/calculator?id1=value1&id2=value2&id3=value3 = I'm trying to access the values of id1, id2, and id3 so that I don't have to require people using the web service to input all parameters (some of them are likely to be 0).

    - by Sukhhhh
We would like to concatenate/merge/join mp3 files seamlessly using "java" in any environment. We are trying the following options at the moment ( please let us know any other options): Using JMF -- ruled out as it supported only in windows http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/reference/faqs/index.html Using tritinous , jlayer and Lame combination. Please let us know thoughts and the links those mention about concatenate/merge/join mp3 files using option 2.

Hello, I am running a java app as daemon on a linux machine using a customized shell script. Since I am new to java and linux, I want to know is it possible that the app itself resurrects itself(just like restart) and recovers from cases like app crashing, unhandled exceptions or out of memory etc. thanks in advance Ashish Sharma

  • Scripting in Java

    - by eflles
Me and some friends are writing a MORPG in Java, and we would like to use a scripting language to, eg. to create quests. We have non experience with scripting in Java. We have used Python, but we are very inexperienced with it. One of us also have used Javascript. What scripting language should we use? What scripting language should we not use?

  • Python readability hints for a Java programmer

    - by Samuel Carrijo
I'm a java programmer, but now entering the "realm of python" for some stuff for which Python works better. I'm quite sure a good portion of my code would look weird for a Python programmer (e.g. using parenthesis on every if). I know each language has its own conventions and set of "habits". So, from a readability standpoint what are conventions and practices which is "the way to go" in Java, but are not really the "pythonic way" to do stuff?

  • "Java & XML" job title

    - by Aspiring developer
When people say they are a "Java & XML" developer, what do they mean? Are they saying they create XML data to be used in applications, or they use XML to configure a framework like Spring or Hibernate? What other ways are there to use XML in a Java application?
