• Infix to Postfix and unary/binary operators

  I have a piece of code that converts an infix expression to an expression tree in memory. This works just fine. There's just one small trouble. I just connect work out how to involve the unary operators correctly (the right associative ones). With the following infix expression : +1 + +2 - -3 - -4 I would expect an RPN of: 1+2++3-4-- Yet, none of the online infix-post converters I can find handle this example in the way I would expect. Does anyone have a clear explanation of handling right associative operators, specifically the binary ones that can be mistaken for the unary ones?

  I am looking for some SQL varchar comparison function like C# string.compare (we can ignore case for now, should return zero when the character expression are same and a non zero expression when they are different) Basically I have some alphanumeric column in one table which needs to be verified in another table. I cannot do select A.col1 - B.col1 from (query) as "-" operator cannot be applied on character expressions I cannot cast my expression as int (and then do a difference/subtraction) as it fails select cast ('ASXT000R' as int) Conversion failed when converting varchar 'ASXT000R' to int Soundex would not do it as soundex is same for 2 similar strings Difference would not do it as select difference('abc','ABC') = 4 (as per msdn, difference is the difference in the soundex of 2 character expressions and difference =4 implies least different) Is there any other way of doing it ?

• Writing file from HttpWebRequest periodically vs. after download finishes?

  Right now I am using this code to download files (with a Range header). Most of the files are large, and it is running 99% of CPU currently as the file downloads. • How do I mix functions in complex SSRS expressions?

  I'm writing a report against a data repository that has null values within some of the columns. The problem is building expressions is as temperamental as a hormonal old lady and doesn't like my mixing of functions. Here's an expression I've written that does not work if the data in the field is null/nothing: =IIF( IsNumeric(Fields!ADataField.Value), RunningValue( IIF( DatePart("q", Fields!CreatedOn.Value) = "2", Fields!ADataField.Value, 0 ), Sum, Nothing ), Sum(0) ) (Pseudocode) "If the data is valid and if the data was created in the second quarter of the year, add it to the overall Sum, otherwise, add zero to the sum." Looks pretty straight forward. And the individual pieces of the expression work by themselves. IE: IsNumeric(), DatePart(), etc. But when I put them all together, the expression throws an error. I've attempted about every permutation of what's shown above, all to no avail. Null values in Fields!ADataField.Value cause errors. Thoughts?

• Help using Horner's rule and Hash Functions in JAVA?

  I am trying to use Horner's rule to convert words to integers. I understand how it works and how if the word is long, it may cause an overflow. My ultimate goal is to use the converted integer in a hash function h(x)=x mod tableSize. My book suggests, because of the overflow, you could "apply the mod operator after computing each parenthesized expression in Horner's rule." I don't exactly understand what they mean by this. Say the expression looks like this: ((14*32+15)*32+20)*32+5 Do I take the mod tableSize after each parenthesized expression and add them together? What would it look like with this hash function and this example of Horner's rule?

  Hi. Based on a php app we've tried to developp our own webapp in vbscript. All is working well. The camera starts, etc.. The problem we're left with is the following: the flash API is streaming the content of the video to a webpage, this page saves the photo as a jpg. I have text files with content like this: key1 = "This is a \"test\" text with escapes using '\\' characters"; key2 = 'It must work with \'single\' quotes and "double" quotes'; I need a regular expression which matches the values in the double-quotes (or single-quotes). This regular expression must support the escaped quotes and escaped backslashes. The regular expression must work with Java standard Pattern/Matcher classes.

• DataNucleus Enhancer flakey?

  I'm creating a GWT app in Google App Engine, and using Google data store. Does anybody else have the problem of the DataNucleus being flakey as all get out? I can save a class, and DataNucleus will do it's thing just fine. If I change ANYTHING in the class (even adding whitespace) and then save, I get the following error: DataNucleus Enhancer completed with success for 0 classes. Timings : input=37 ms, enhance=0 ms, total=37 ms. Consult the log for full details DataNucleus Enhancer completed and no classes were enhanced. Consult the log for full details Once I clean my project, DataNucleus is happy again. Is this common when using eclipse? Is there a workaround?

  Consider an ASP.NET MVC application using the Salt parameter in the [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] directive. The scenario is such that the app will be used by many customers. It's not terribly desirable to have the Salt known at compile time. The current strategy is to locate the Salt value in the web.config. [ValidateAntiForgeryToken(Salt = Config.AppSalt)] //Config.AppSalt is a static property that reads the web.config. This leads to a compile-time exception suggesting that the Salt must be a const at compile time.   Hi to all, i need to run exchange cmdlets from a c# console application. i followed with success the guide from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332449.aspx but only for the basic command and one parameter. the cmdlets i need to run is: Get-MailboxStatistics -server evs | Select servername, StorageGroupName,databasename,@{expression={$_.TotalItemSize.value.ToKB()}},ItemCount,mailboxguid In detail i cannot specify the field that i need after the select "command" and i don't know how can i pass to cmdlets, the expression "@{expression={$_.TotalItemSize.value.ToKB()}}". • StremReader.ReadToEnd() returning an empty string

  I have a method private static String DecompressAndDecode(byte[] data) { GZipStream decompressor = new GZipStream(new MemoryStream(data), CompressionMode.Decompress); StreamReader decompressed = new StreamReader(decompressor, Encoding.UTF8); String result = decompressed.ReadToEnd(); return result; } I have some GZipped text as input and the result is supposed to be a String representation of this text. The problem is that the method returns an empty string. What is puzzling me is that when I step trough the method in debug mode and reach the return statement the result variable is an empty string but if I create a watch for the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression it returns me the text. What I would expect at this point is the result variable to contain the text and the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression evaluating to an empty string. (Reevaluating the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression returns an empty string as expected). There must be something obvious I'm missing here.

• C#/.NET: Separation of multipage tiff with compression "CCITT T.6" very slow

  I need to separate multiframe tiff files, and use the following method: public static Image[] GetFrames(Image sourceImage) { Guid objGuid = sourceImage.FrameDimensionsList[0]; FrameDimension objDimension = new FrameDimension(objGuid); int frameCount = sourceImage.GetFrameCount(objDimension); Image[] images = new Image[frameCount]; for (int i = 0; i < frameCount; i++) { MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); sourceImage.SelectActiveFrame(objDimension, i); sourceImage.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Tiff); images[i] = Image.FromStream(ms); } return images; } It works fine, butt if the source was encoded using the CCITT T.6 compression, separating a 20-frame-file takes up to 15 seconds on my 2,5ghz CPU. Saving the images afterwards to a single file using standard compression (LZW), the separation time is under 1 second. Is there a way to speed up the process?

However, when the consumer closes the StreamWriter, it also disposes the MeamoryStream... :-( Any thoughts on how to pursue this?

  I'm looking to write a Truth Table Generator as a personal project. There are several web-based online ones here and here. (Example screenshot of an existing Truth Table Generator) I have the following questions: How should I go about parsing expressions like: ((P = Q) & (Q = R)) = (P = R) Should I use a parser generator like ANTLr or YACC, or use straight regular expressions? Once I have the expression parsed, how should I go about generating the truth table? Each section of the expression needs to be divided up into its smallest components and re-built from the left side of the table to the right. How would I evaluate something like that? Can anyone provide me with tips concerning the parsing of these arbitrary expressions and eventually evaluating the parsed expression?

  Probably something simple, but as I'm new to lambda expressions, the problem evades me: m => m.contactID == contactID && m.primaryAddress == true && (m.addressTypeID == 2 || m.addressTypeID == 3) I tried to use that lambda expression but I receive an invalid operator. Is there a way to simplify this so that it would work? Edit: The equivolent sql query would be: SELECT * FROM Contact WHERE contactID = 3 AND primaryAddress = 1 AND (addressTypeID = 2 OR addressTypeID = 3) I have a repository function defined like so: public E Single(Expression<Func<E, bool>> where) { return objectSet.Single<E>(where); } I'm passing the lambda expression above into this function.   Is it possible to detect if a given string is valid regular expression, using just regular expressions? Say I have some strings, that may or may not be a valid regular expressions. I'd like to have a regular expression matches those string that correspond to valid regular expression. Is that possible? Or do I have use some higher level grammar (i.e. context free language) to detect this? Does it affect if I am using some extended version of regexps like Perl regexps? If that is possible, what the regexp matching regexp is?

• ANTLR lexing getting confused over '...' and floats

  I think the ANTLR lexer is treating my attempt at a range expression "1...3" as a float. The expression "x={1..3}" is coming out of the lexer as "x={.3}" when I used the following token definitions: FLOAT : ('0'..'9')+ ('.' '0'..'9'+)? EXPONENT? | ('.' '0'..'9')+ EXPONENT? ; AUTO : '...'; When I change FLOAT to just check for integers, as so: FLOAT : ('0'..'9')+; then the expression "x={1...3}" is tokenized correctly. Can anyone help me to fix this? Thanks!

• Linq to Entities performance within ASP.NET Development Server

  I've been evaluating linq to entities and linq to SQL for a project. Obviously each has its own advantages and disadvantages which have been discussed plenty of times here. However, One thing I am seeing with L2E is kind of odd. Using L2S, when using the ASP.NET Development Server, the performance is a little slower for my web service calls. I'm looking at 300ms vs. 250 ms. However, when using L2E, when using ASP.NET Dev Server, the performance is awful. I'm talking 1,250 ms vs. 220 ms. I know I should probably just use local IIS for development, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this, or knows what is causing it.

• SqlBulkCopy unusual TimeOut Error

  I have a SqlBulkCopy operation that is taking data from an MS-Access 2007 database (via OleDbConnection) and using SqlBulkCopy to transfer that data to a SQL Server database. This has previously been working and continues to work for one MS-Access database, but not the other. I get the error message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It is hard to believe it is a timeout ast the oledbCommand.CommandTimeout = 0 the sqlBulkCopy.BulkCopyTimeout = 0 and on either side (MS-Access and SQL Server the timeouts have now been set to 0). Are there other issues/exceptions that the above error message could be hiding? Is there a way to determine what the base cause of a sqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer exception is (there doesn't appear to be any inner exceptions etc...)
