• g++ fails mysteriously only if a .h is in a certain directory

  I'm experiencing an extremely weird problem in a fresh OSX 10.4.11 + Xcode 2.5 installation. I've reduced it to a minimal test case. Here's test.cpp: #include "macros.h" int main (void) { return 1; } And here's macros.h: #ifndef __JUST_TESTING__ #define __JUST_TESTING__ template<typename T> void swap (T& pT1, T& pT2) { T pTmp = pT1; pT1 = pT2; pT2 = pTmp; } #endif //__JUST_TESTING__ This compiles and works just fine if both files are in the same directory. HOWEVER, if I put macros.h in /usr/include/gfc2 (it's part of a custom library I use) and change the #include in test.cpp, compilation fails with this error : /usr/include/gfc2/macros.h:4: error: template with C linkage I researched that error and most of the comments point to a "dangling extern C", which doesn't seem to be the case at all. I'm at a complete loss here. Is g++ for some reason assuming everything in /usr/include/gfc2 is C even though it's included from a .cpp file that doesn't say extern "C" anywhere? Any ideas? EDIT : It does compile if I use the full path in the #include, ie #include "/usr/include/gfc2/macros.h" EDIT2 : It's not including the wrong header. I've verified this using cpp, g++ -E, and renaming macros.h to foobarmacros.h

• How do I create another controller action to create an object in rails?

  I have a model called Contact_Email. When an Email template is sent through ActionMailer to a specific Contact, as part of the Create action it sends it through upon .save. However, I want to create a "skip" action which also creates a Contact_Email, but does NOT send an ActionMailer and allows me to set the status differently. I want to create a separate action because I want to make this respond to a remote_for_tag so that I can just have an ajax button indicate it has been "skipped": Here's what I tried, but while it creates a Contact_Email, I end up getting an error when I want to go back and view all the Contacts again. def skip @contact_email = ContactEmail.new @contact_email.contact_id = params[:contact_id] @contact_email.email_id = params[:email_id] @contact_email.status = "skipped" if @contact_email.save flash[:notice] = "skipped email" redirect_to contact_emails_url end end

• Determine if a directory is empty, delete it if it is and delete that directroy name from a separate list. C-shell

  I have a directory named STA. Within that directory are about 600 other directories that have the format hh:mm:ss (for example 00:01:34). Within each of these sub-directories should be three files. I also have a file, 'waveformlist', (contained within STA) which is a list of all of these sub-directories i.e.: 00:01:34 00:02:35 etc. A lot of the sub-directories do not contain these three files and are instead empty. I want to run a C-shell script to go through every sub directory and check if it is empty. If it is empty I want to delete that sub directory from the main directory STA, and also remove that sub-directory name from the list 'waveformlist'. Below is my script so far. It does not recognize when the sub-directory is empty or not and does not like the rm $dir line.   Is there any way, in PostgreSQL accessed from Python using SQLObject, to create a temporary table from the results of a cursor? Previously, I had a query, and I created the temporary table directly from the query. I then had many other queries interacting w/ that temporary table. Now I have much more data, so I want to only process 1000 rows at a time or so. However, I can't do CREATE TEMP TABLE ... AS ... from a cursor, not as far as I can see. Is the only thing to do something like: rows = cur.fetchmany(1000); cur2 = conn.cursor() cur2.execute("""CREATE TEMP TABLE foobar (id INTEGER)""") for row in rows: cur2.execute("""INSERT INTO foobar (%d)""" % row) or is there a better way? This seems awfully inefficient.

  This is FIrst time i try to create Cocoa Touch Static Library and follow these steps. Create New Project with Cocoa Touch Static Library named it By default i got single class with Demo.h and Demo.m. 2.Create a public function in .h and implement it in .m. 3.Select iOS Device and press cmd + B. 4.Copy Demo.a from products and the .h file drop it in my iOS App where i want to use it. 5.Then Import Demo.h and try to call the function that i wrote.   I'm fairly new to PHP - programming in general. So basically what I need to accomplish is, create an array of x amount of numbers (created randomly) who's value add up to n: Lets say, I have to create 4 numbers that add up to 30. I just need the first random dataset. The 4 and 30 here are variables which will be set by the user. Essentially something like x = amount of numbers; n = sum of all x's combined; create x random numbers which all add up to n; $row = array(5, 7, 10, 8) // these add up to 30 Also, no duplicates are allowed. I need the values with an array. I have been messing around with it sometime, however, my knowledge is fairly limited. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

  I have a sql script that is set to roll to production. I've wrapped the various projects into separate transactions. In each of the transactions we created stored procedures. I'm getting error messages Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 4 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'procedure'.   I have this code to print out all directories and files. I tried to use recursive method call in for loop. With enhanced for loop, the code prints out all the directories and files correctly. But with regular for loop, the code does not work. • C# Script to get modified date from URL directory

  Hello, I am fairly new to C# and was hoping for some assistance. I currently use Visual Studio 2008. What I am wanting to do is the following: I have a server (\backupserv) that runs a RoboCopy script nightly to backup directories from 18 other servers. These directories are then copied down to \backup in directories of their own: Example: It copies down "Dir1", "Dir2", and "Dir3" from Server1 into \backupserv\backups\Server1 into their own directories (\backupserv\backups\Server1\Dir1, \backupserv\backups\Server1\Dir2, and \backupserv\backups\Server1\Dir3). It does this for all 18 servers nightly between 12am and 6am. The RoboCopy runs via schedule task. A log file is created in \backupserv\backups\log and is named server1-dir1.log, server1-dir2.log, etc. What I am wanting to accomplish in C# is the ability to have a 'report' showing the modified date of each text log file. To do this I need to browse the \backupserv\backups\log directory, determine the modified date, and have a report displayed (prefer HTML if possible). Along with the modified date I will be showing more information, but that is later. Again, I am fairly new to C#, so, please be gentle. I was referred here by another programmer, and was told I would get some assistance. Thanks in advance. If I have missed any detail please let me know and I will do my best to answer.

  I'm trying to detect the current section of a site that a user is viewing by checking for the final directory in the URL. I'm using a PHP and regex to do it and I think I'm close but unfortunately not quite there yet. I'm new to rails but I've been searching for hours and can't seem to find anything to figure out the issue. Currently, I but a try finally block around everywhere, where I create an object, to free that object after usage (to avoid memory leaks). E.g.: aObject := TObject.Create; try aOBject.AProcedure(); ... finally aObject.Free; end; instead of: aObject := TObject.Create; aObject.AProcedure(); .. aObject.Free; To you think, it is good practice, or too much overhead? And what about the performance?

• Clone submodule into directory

  I'm having an issue with creating a submodule in my project. If I create the submodule directly in the repository root, everything works fine. If the submodule is any deeper, the repository does not get cloned. For example, this works as expected: git submodule add git://someproject.com/.git someproject However, when I run the following command, the project is added to .gitmodules and an empty repository is created, but no code is pulled down (even after a git submodule update --init). • RHEL5: Can't create sparse file bigger than 256GB in tmpfs

  /var/log/lastlog gets written to when you log in. The size of this file is based off of the largest UID in the system. The larger the maximum UID, the larger this file is. Thankfully it's a sparse file so the size on disk is much smaller than the size ls reports (ls -s reports the size on disk). On our system we're authenticating against an Active Directory server, and the UIDs users are assigned end up being really, really large. Like, say, UID 900,000,000 for the first AD user, 900,000,001 for the second, etc. That's strange but should be okay. It results in /var/log/lastlog being huuuuuge, though--once an AD user logs in lastlog shows up as 280GB. Its real size is still small, thankfully. This works fine when /var/log/lastlog is stored on the hard drive on an ext3 filesystem. It breaks, however, if lastlog is stored in a tmpfs filesystem. Then it appears that the max file size for any file on the tmpfs is 256GB, so the sessreg program errors out trying to write to lastlog. Where is this 256GB limit coming from, and how can I increase it? As a simple test for creating large sparse files I've been doing: dd if=/dev/zero of=sparse-file bs=1 count=1 seek=300GB I've tried Googling for "tmpfs max file size", "256GB filesystem limit", "linux max file size", things like that. I haven't been able to find much. The only mention of 256GB I can find is that ext3 filesystems with 2KB blocks are limited to 256GB files. But our hard drives are formatted with 4K blocks so that doesn't seem to be it--not to mention this is happening in a tmpfs mounted ON TOP of the hard drive so the ext3 partition shouldn't be a factor. This is all happening on a 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 system. Interestingly, on my personal development machine, which is a 32-bit Fedora Core 6 box, I can create 300GB+ files in tmpfs filesystems no problem. On the RHEL5.4 systems it is no go.

  I have installed encfs and started using it to secure all my personal & office data and it was working absolutely fine until 2 hours back. The setup is like this. I have a folder in Copy folder called OfficeData which gets synchronized with my Copy folder When I login into the system I use the command encfs ~/Copy/OfficeData ~/Documents/OfficeData Once my work is over I dismount with the command fusermount -u ~/Documents/OfficeData All this data get synchronized with my desktop and with my mobile phone (as a backup) Today when I mounted, the folder got mounted by no directories and files present in that folder.   I thought I had my postfix configuration all set up on my Amazon Ubuntu server but I guess not. I'm trying to set up an admin email account for 3 virtually hosted Apache websites. • Unable to create new virtual hosts using MAMP with OSX Mavericks

  I have been using virtual hosts on my Mac with MAMP, which has worked up until now. I have 2 working virtual hosts that i created in the same manner, which still work, but for some reason I am unable to create any new virtual hosts. When i attempt to go to a newly crated virtual host in my browser it generates a 404 Not Found error. The only thing i can think of possibly after i updated OSX to Mavericks, but i'm not sure what that would have done, or why the old virtual hosts still work. See excerpt below from vhosts.conf file.   i'm trying to get custom language and message for nginx error page but keep url on browser.. not success for eg: i go to url : xaluan.com/aaa/bbb.html on the time server down.. nginx will show error 502. with the same url but custom message as my language. test 1. I have tried setting heap to 1024m, 512m and setting the stack to 64k and 128k (and each of these combinations) with no luck. My open files was originally 256 and I have bumped this to 1024. I have been googling around for a bit and all posts say to decrease heap size and increase stack size but that doesnt seem to help. Anyone have anymore ideas? • Batch file to create many files with special characters

  Essential info: I have a file "DB_OUTPUT.TXT" with 304 lines that I need to turn into 304 files (one per line). Each line contains many special characters and may be up to tens of thousands of characters long. For these reasons, I'm having difficulty using a cmd.exe batch file (which limits the amount of input) and the echo command (which would try to execute each special character, short of me having to escape them all). I also have a file "DB_OUTPUT_FILENAMES.TXT" containing a distinct filename for each line-soon-to-be-file from "db_output.txt". So line 1 of DB_OUTPUT.TXT needs to be the body of a new file with a name equal to line 1 of DB_OUTPUT_FILENAMES.TXT. Extra info: As you may have guessed, DB_OUTPUT.TXT is output from a database; it contains 304 records with 6 or 7 columns at a fixed width with the last column being a SQL query. Each of these lines (db records) will be used as a script to create new database objects, which is why the special characters need to be preserved. Question: Is there a way to do this in a batch-like fashion? I'd be happy with either a Windows solution or a Linux one.

• How do I create an MBR on a USB stick using DD command line tool

  Okay I'm trying to create a BOOTABLE Windows7 image on a USB key from a Mac running Lion. My image is .iso format. I tried: sudo dd if=/Users/myusername/Win7.iso of=/dev/disk1 bs=1m And this succeeded in writing the files, except in DISK UTILITY on the mac, it shows the partition type as GUID Partition Table and not 'Master Boor Record'. Booting the key on my Vista computer yields the error "No boot sector on USB Device' From what I can tell, bs=1m in the DD command should have left 1 Megabyte for the boot sector, but for some reason this area of the USB Key is not set up correctly so that it will boot How can I fix this, or correctly use dd to write a bootable cd image such that it is now a bootable usb drive? Note: in the instructions I read about, they recommended renaming my Win7.iso to Win7.dmg before using DD, which made absolutely no sense to me, so I didn't do it. I could try with that step now, but it takes 1.99 hours to write the image to the USB drive so there is a huge penalty to trial and error here. Thank you.

• Create a partition table on a hardware RAID1 drive with [c]fdisk

  My question is, is there a reason for this not to work? Details: I have two 500 Gb drives, and my motherboard RAID support, so I created a RAID1 array and booted from a Linux live medium. I then listed the disks and, apart from the obvious /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc. there was /dev/md126 which, I figured, was the mirrored "virtual" drive. Its size was 475 Gb; I had seen that the size of the array would be smaller than 500 Gb when I was creating it, so no surprise there. I did cfdisk /dev/md126, created the necessary partitions and chose write. It's been about half an hour now, I think. It doesn't seem like it's ever going to finish. The only thing about cfdisk in dmesg is that it's "blocked for more than 120 seconds". Doing fdisk -l /dev/md126 in another terminal I see all three partitions I created and a note that "Partition 1 does not start on a physical sector boundary". The table is lost after reboot, though. I tried to partition /dev/sda individually, and it worked, the table was written in about a second. The "not on a physical sector boundary" message is there, too. EDIT: I tried fdisk on /dev/sda, then there were no messages about sector boundaries. After a reboot, I am able to use mkfs on /dev/dm126p1, etc. fdisk shows that /dev/md126 has the same partitions as /dev/sda (but /dev/sdb doesn't have any). But at some point ("writing superblock and filesystem accounting information") mkfs is also blocked. Using it on sda1 results in a "partition is used by the system" error. What can be the problem? EDIT 2: I booted a freshly updated system from a pendrive and was able to create partition table and filesystems on /dev/md126 without any apparent problems. Was it an issue with the support of the hardware? My MB is Asus P9X79.
