  • How to change password on RAR archive w/o modifying arch. files attributes (modified/created)?

    How do I change the password of an .RAR archive, without changing the date/time attributes of the files in the archive? Unfortunately you can't directly change the password of the archive with WinRAR, you have to extract the files, and then make a new archive with the new password. So the created/modified attributes of the files in the archive get changed. I know you can manually change the attributes of a file with available utilities - but there are hundreds of files in the archive, each with unique attributes, so it would take a very long time to "fix" each file before re-archiving it. I'm using WinRAR 3.51, the last free version. Windows XP Pro SP3. Update: I don't care if the output is a .RAR file or a ZIP file IZArc4.1 will convert the RAR to a ZIP, and it keeps the dates. The problem is it compresses the file - there isn't a "store" option, and setting the default to store in the main configuration doesn't effect conversions. The RAR contains uncompressed files. None of these other archiving programs will even do a conversion. A couple claim to, or try to, but the errors returned indicate a very lousy application. So far I've tried PeaZip, 7-Zip, FilZip, TugZip, SimplyZipSE, QuickZip, and WinShrink (from downloads.cnet.com). WinRAR gives the error "skipping encryped archive" when I try the conversion. It asks for the password first, and I know it's right, as I opened the archive, and I can read/view all the files in it. It works on non-encrypted files.

  • Metro: Declarative Data Binding

    The goal of this blog post is to describe how declarative data binding works in the WinJS library. In particular, you learn how to use both the data-win-bind and data-win-bindsource attributes. You also learn how to use calculated properties and converters to format the value of a property automatically when performing data binding. By taking advantage of WinJS data binding, you can use the Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) pattern when building Metro style applications with JavaScript. By using the MVVM pattern, you can prevent your JavaScript code from spinning into chaos. The MVVM pattern provides you with a standard pattern for organizing your JavaScript code which results in a more maintainable application. Using Declarative Bindings You can use the data-win-bind attribute with any HTML element in a page. The data-win-bind attribute enables you to bind (associate) an attribute of an HTML element to the value of a property. Imagine, for example, that you want to create a product details page. You want to show a product object in a page. You use the data-win-bind attribute to set properties of the HTML element associated with the data-win-attribute. The data-win-bind attribute takes a semicolon delimited list of element property names and data source property names: data-win-bind=”elementPropertyName:datasourcePropertyName; elementPropertyName:datasourcePropertyName;…” In the HTML page above, the first two data-win-bind attributes are used to set the values of the innerText property of the SPAN elements. The last data-win-bind attribute is used to set the values of the IMG element’s src and alt attributes. By the way, using data-win-bind attributes is perfectly valid HTML5. The HTML5 standard enables you to add custom attributes to an HTML document just as long as the custom attributes start with the prefix data-. So you can add custom attributes to an HTML5 document with names like data-stephen, data-funky, or data-rover-dog-is-hungry and your document will validate. The WinJS.Binding.processAll() method is called to perform the actual binding (Don’t confuse WinJS.Binding.processAll() and WinJS.UI.processAll() – these are different methods). The first parameter passed to the processAll() method represents the root element for the binding. In other words, binding happens on this element and its child elements. If you provide the value null, then binding happens on the entire body of the document (document.body). The second parameter represents the data context. This is the object that has the properties which are displayed with the data-win-bind attributes. In the code above, the product object is passed as the data context parameter. Another word for data context is view model.  Creating Complex View Models In the previous section, we used the data-win-bind attribute to display the properties of a simple object: a single product. However, you can use binding with more complex view models including view models which represent multiple objects. For example, the view model in the following default.js file represents both a customer and a product object. Creating Calculated Properties You might want to modify a property before displaying the property. For example, you might want to format the product price property before displaying the property. You don’t want to display the raw product price “80000”. Instead, you want to display the formatted price “$80,000”. You also might need to combine multiple properties. For example, you might need to display the customer full name by combining the values of the customer first and last name properties. In these situations, it is tempting to call a function when performing binding. For example, you could create a function named fullName() which concatenates the customer first and last name. Unfortunately, the WinJS library does not support the following syntax: <span data-win-bind=”innerText:fullName()”></span> Instead, in these situations, you should create a new property in your view model that has a getter. For example, the customer object in the following default.js file includes a property named fullName which combines the values of the firstName and lastName properties: (function () { "use strict"; var app = WinJS.Application; app.onactivated = function (eventObject) { if (eventObject.detail.kind === Windows.ApplicationModel.Activation.ActivationKind.launch) { var customer = { firstName: "Fred", lastName: "Flintstone", get fullName() { return this.firstName + " " + this.lastName; } }; WinJS.Binding.processAll(null, customer); } }; app.start(); })(); The customer object has a firstName, lastName, and fullName property. Notice that the fullName property is defined with a getter function. When you read the fullName property, the values of the firstName and lastName properties are concatenated and returned. The following HTML page displays the fullName property in an H1 element. This approach makes sense when the formatting logic is specific to a particular view model. If, on the other hand, you need to perform the same type of formatting for multiple view models then it makes more sense to create a converter function. A converter function is a function which you can apply whenever you are using the data-win-bind attribute. Imagine, for example, that you want to create a general function for displaying dates. You always want to display dates using a short format such as 12/25/1988. The following JavaScript file – named converters.js – contains a shortDate() converter: (function (WinJS) { var shortDate = WinJS.Binding.converter(function (date) { return date.getMonth() + 1 + "/" + date.getDate() + "/" + date.getFullYear(); }); // Export shortDate WinJS.Namespace.define("MyApp.Converters", { shortDate: shortDate }); })(WinJS); The file above uses the Module Pattern, a pattern which is used through the WinJS library. This function converts a JavaScript date object into a short date string such as 12/1/1988. The converter function is created with the help of the WinJS.Binding.converter() method. This method takes a normal function and converts it into a converter function. Finally, the shortDate() converter is added to the MyApp.Converters namespace. You can call the shortDate() function by calling MyApp.Converters.shortDate(). The default.js file contains the customer object that we want to bind. Notice that the customer object has a firstName, lastName, and birthday property. The data-win-bind attributes of all of the child elements are bound to the data source represented by the data-win-bindsource attribute. Summary The focus of this blog entry was data binding using the WinJS library. You learned how to use the data-win-bind attribute to bind the properties of an HTML element to a view model. We also discussed several advanced features of data binding. We examined how to create calculated properties by including a property with a getter in your view model.   • CultureInfo on a IValueConverter implementation

    When a ValueConverter is used as part of a binding, one of the parameters to the Convert function is a System.Globalization.CultureInfo object. Can anyone tell me where this culture object gets its info from? I have some code that formats a date based on that culture. When i access my silverlight control which is hosted on my machine, it formats the date correctly (using the d/MM/yyyy format, which is set as the short date format on my machine). When i access the same control hosted on a different server (from my client machine), the date is being formatted as MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss - which is totally wrong. Coincidentally the regional settings on the server are set to the same as my client machine. This is the code for my value converter: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if (value is DateTime) { if (parameter != null && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(parameter.ToString())) return ((DateTime)value).ToString(parameter.ToString()); else return ((DateTime)value).ToString(culture.DateTimeFormat.ShortDatePattern); } return value; } basically, a specific format can be specified as the converter parameter, but if it isn't then the short date pattern of the culture object is used.

The web service is running on Glassfish and is soap 1.1, I've tried using all the packaged wcf bindings but have not been able to get them to work. I started down the path of using a MessageInspector, and wrote one but then realized there must be a better way, surely WCF provides some way to insert saml 2.0 assertions. I've made the most progress writing a custom binding - i've been able to get the timestamp and signature nodes in the soap header, but cannot for the life of me figure out the saml assertion.     Hi All, Consider this snippet of code: string sDate = string.Format("{0:u}", this.Date); Conn.Open(); Command.CommandText = "INSERT INTO TRADES VALUES(" + "\"" + this.Date + "\"" + "," +this.ATR + "," + "\"" + this.BIAS + "\"" + ")"; Command.ExecuteNonQuery(); Note the "this.Date" part of the command. Now Date is an abject of type DateTime of C# environment, the DB doesnt store it(somewhere in SQLite forum, it was written that ADO.NET wrapper automatically converts DateTime type to ISO1806 format) But instead of this.Date when I use sDate (shown in the first line) then it stores properly. My probem actually doesnt end here. Even if I use "sDate", I have to retrieve it through a query. And that is creating the problem Any query of this format SELECT * FROM <Table_Name> WHERE DATES = "YYYY-MM-DD" returns nothing, whereas replacing '=' with '' or '<' returns right results. So my point is: How do I query for Date variables from SQLite Database. And if there is a problem with the way I stored it (i.e non 1806 compliant), then how do I make it compliant

The button renders perfectly, but I can't get it to hit any event handlers.     hi guys, I was wondering if there is someway to embed a Flash Shockwave Object or .SWF file in MS Powerpoint (Presentation) 2007 and higher version. ie inside ".pptx" formats . by embed i mean when i save the presentation,close it . i wont be needing the the .swf file again.that way i can share the Presentations with others. If i use this link Insert-Flash-Into-PowerPoint-2007,it works but when i save and close the presentation,the swf file doesnt get embeded. (Note:if i do the same with a .ppt file,it works correctly.) I know we can embed the swf inside powerpoint presentation version 2003 ie.".ppt" format. but couldn't do the same in .pptx format. Also is it possible to embed .swf file in .pptx using OpenXML format? I tried to rename the ".pptx" file to ".zip" and added the ".swf" in media folder. and then renamed it back to ".pptx",but when opened in Powerpoint,it gave error about unreadable content or corruption. I had read somewhere that its kind of strategy from MS not to provide this kind of support for Adobe Swf file / ActiveX object. and as of now the feature is not supported.     In short, [NSURL URLWithString:] appears to be raising an exception. According to the documentation "If the string was malformed, returns nil." There is no mention of an exception being raised under any circumstance. In addition to this, I am both encoding the URL and checking for nil before converting the string to a URL. Can anyone offer any advice as to which exception it could be or what other error checking I should be doing before converting the URL? Update (14/7/2009): Seems like such a hack, but I added an exception block around the suspect line. I also raised a Radar bug report (#7031551) suggesting that the code should match the documentation.

    I have a function that makes a series of calls to sscanf() and then, after each, updates the string pointer to point to the first character not consumed by sscanf() like so: if(sscanf(str, "%d%n", &fooInt, &length) != 1) { // error handling } str+=length; In order to clean it up and avoid duplicating this several times over, i'd like to encapsulate this into a nice utility function that looks something like the following: int newSscanf ( char ** str, const char * format, ...) { int rv; int length; char buf[MAX_LENGTH]; va_list args; strcpy(buf, format); strcat(buf, "%n"); va_start(args, format); rv = vsscanf(*str, buf, args, &length); va_end(args); *str += length; return rv; } Then I could simply the calls as below to remove the additional parameter/bookkeeping: if(newSscanf(&str, "%d", &fooInt) != 1) { // error handling } Unfortunately, I can't find a way to append the &length parameter onto the end of the arg list directly or otherwise inside newSscanf(). Is there some way to work around this, or am I just as well off handling the bookkeeping by hand at each call?

  • MSMQ first Message.Body in queue is OK, all following Message.Body in queue are empty

    I send a handful of identical (except for Id#, obviously) messages to an MSMQ queue on my local machine. The body of the messages is a serialized XElement object. When I try to process the first message in the queue, I am able to successfully de-serialize the Message.Body object and save it to file. However, when trying to process the next (or any subsequent) message, the Message.Body is absent, and an exception is thrown. I have verified the Message ID's are correct for the message attempting to be processed. The XML being serialized is properly formed. Any ideas?   • Formatting and pretty printing dates with jquery

    I need to display dates in a couple different ways in an app built with jquery. In some situations, I need the typical "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mma" type of formatting, with all of it's different permutations. In other cases, I need to show dates "pretty printed" similar to how StackOverflow does them: 5 seconds ago 12 minutes ago 3 hours ago yesterday 2 days ago My application already uses JQuery UI DatePicker which includes a formatDate() function, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to use it outside of the datepicker. I want to format dates that aren't associated with a datepicker. Is it possible to do this using DatePicker? The DateJS library can parse dates like "12 minutes ago", but as far as I can tell, it cannot take a Date object and format strings like this. It can format the typical "yyyy-mm-dd" types of formats. This library seems pretty heavy as well. John Resig's Pretty Dates looks like it can provide the pretty printing ("2 hours ago"), but it doesn't do the standard formatting. Is there not a single plugin that can do all of this? Is there a way to leverage the DatePicker code so I don't have to load multiple codebases that do the same things?

    For TDD you have to Create a test that fail Do the simplest thing that could possible work to pass the test Add more variants of the test and repeat Refactor when a pattern emerge With this approach you're supposing to cover all the cases ( that comes to my mind at least) but I'm wonder if am I being too strict here and if it is possible to "think ahead" some scenarios instead of simple discover them. For instance, I'm processing a file and if it doesn't conform to a certain format I am to throw an InvalidFormatException So my first test was: @Test void testFormat(){ // empty doesn't do anything nor throw anything processor.validate("empty.txt"); try { processor.validate("invalid.txt"); assert false: "Should have thrown InvalidFormatException"; } catch( InvalidFormatException ife ) { assert "Invalid format".equals( ife.getMessage() ); } } I run it and it fails because it doesn't throw an exception. ( although the real code is a bit more complicated, I found my self doing something like this several times ) I know that I have to eventually add another file name and other test that would make this approach impractical and that would force me to refactor to something that makes sense ( which if I understood correctly is the point of TDD, to discover the patterns the usage unveils ) but: Q: am I taking too literal the "Do the simplest thing..." stuff?

  • XML Schema Migration

    I am working on a project where we need to save data in an XML format. The problem is, over time we expect the format / schema for our data to change. What we want to be able to do is to produce scripts to migrate our data across different schema versions. We distribute our product to thousands of customers so we need to be able to run / apply these scripts at customer sites (so we can't just do the conversions by hand). I think that what we are looking for is some kind of XML data migration tool. In my mind the ideal tool could: Do an "XML diff" of two schema to identify added/deleted/changed nodes. Allow us to specify transformation functions. So, for example, we might add a new element to our schema that is a function of the old elements. (E.g. a new element C where C = A+B, A + B are old elements). So I think I am looking for a kind of XML diff and patch tool which can also apply transformation functions. One tool I am looking at for this is Altova's MapForce . I'm sure others here have had to deal with XML data format migration. How did you handle it? Edit: One point of clarification. The "diff" I plan to do is on the schema or .xsd files. The actual changes will be made to particular data sets that follow a given schema. These data sets will be .xml files. So its a "diff" of the schema to help figure out what changes need to be made to data sets to migrate them from one scheme to another.

The web service is running on Glassfish and is soap 1.1, I've tried using all the packaged wcf bindings but have not been able to get them to work. I started down the path of using a MessageInspector, and wrote one but then realized there must be a better way, surely WCF provides some way to insert saml 2.0 assertions. I've made the most progress writing a custom binding - i've been able to get the timestamp and signature nodes in the soap header, but cannot for the life of me figure out the saml assertion.     Hi, I am trying to use Clipboard API (in Delphi) to extract images from Word documents. my code works OK in Windows XP/2003 but in windows 2008 64 bit it doesn't work. in win 2008 i get an error saying that Clipboard.Formats is empty and doesn't contain any format.   • How to get stack trace information for logging in production when using the GAC

    I would like to get stack trace (file name and line number) information for logging exceptions etc. in a production environment. The DLLs are installed in the GAC. Is there any way to do this? This article says about putting PDB files in the GAC: You can spot these easily because they will say you need to copy the debug symbols (.pdb file) to the GAC. In and of itself, that will not work. I know this article refers to debugging with VS but I thought it might apply to logging the stacktrace also. I've followed the instructions for the answer to this question except for unchecking Optimize code which they said was optional. I copied the dlls and pdbs into the GAC but I'm still not getting the stack trace information. Here's what I get in the log file for the stack trace: OnAuthenticate at offset 161 in file:line:column <filename unknown>:0:0 ValidateUser at offset 427 in file:line:column <filename unknown>:0:0 LogException at offset 218 in file:line:column <filename unknown>:0:0 I'm using NLog. My NLog layout is: layout="${date:format=s}|${level}|${callsite}|${identity}|${message}|${stacktrace:format=Raw}" ${stacktrace:format=Raw} being the relevant part.

I did some optimalization (how to get fieldnames) but still for only 20 fields takes 10 seconds to show - very bad.   • H.264 / FLV best practices for HTML

    I run a website with about 700 videos (And no, it's not porn -- get your mind out of the gutter :-) ). The videos are currently in FLV format. We use the JWPlayer to render those videos. IIS6 hosted. Everything works just fine. As I understand it, H.264 (not FLV and likely not OGG) is the emerging preferred HTML5 video standard. Today, the iPad really only respects H.264 or YouTube. Presumably, soon many more important browsers will follow Apple's lead and respect only the HTML5 tag. OK, so I think I can figure out how to convert my existing videos into the proper H.264 format. There are various tools available, including ffmpeg.exe. I haven't tried it yet, but I don't think that's going to be a problem after fiddling with the codec settings. My question is more about the container itself -- that is, planning graceful transition for all users. What's the best-practice recommendation for rendering these videos? If I just use the HTML5 tag, then presumably any browser that doesn't yet support HTML5 won't see the videos. And if I render them in Flash format via the JWPlayer or some other player, then they won't be playable on the iPad. Do I have to do ugly UserAgent detection here to figure out what to render? I know the JWPlayer supports H.264 media, but isn't the player itself a Flash component and therefore not playable on the iPad? Sorry if I'm not being clear, but I'm scratching my head on a graceful transition plan that will work for current browsers, the iPad and the upcoming HTML5 wave. I'm not a video expert, so any advice would be most welcome, thanks.

  • How to scale a sprite image without losing color key information?

    Hello everyone, I'm currently developing a simple application that displays map and draws some markers on it. I'm developing for Windows Mobile, so I decided to use DirectDraw and Imaging interfaces to make the application fast and pretty. The map moves when user moves finger on the touchscreen, so the whole map moving/scrolling animation has to be fast, but it is not. On every map update I have to draw portion of the map, control buttons, and markers - buttons and markers are preloaded on DirectDraw surface as a mipmap. So the only thing I do is BitBlit from the mipmap to a back buffer, and from the back buffer to a primary surface (I can't use page flipping due to the windowed mode of my application). Previously I used premultiplied-alpha surface with 32 bit ARGB pixel format for images mipmap, everything was looking good, but drawing entire "scene" was horribly slow - i could forget about smooth map scrolling. Now I'm using mipmap with native (RGB565) pixel format and fuchsia (0xFF00FF) color key. Drawing is much better my mipmap surface is generated on program loading - images are loaded from files, scaled (with filtering) and drawn on mipmap. The problem is, that image scaling process blends pixel colors, and those pixels which are on the border of a sprite region are blended with surrounding fuchsia pixels resulting semi-fuchsia color that is not treated as color key. When I do blitting with color key option, sprites have small fuchsia-like borders, and it looks really bad. How to solve this problem? I can use alpha blitting, but it is too slow - even in ARGB 1555 format.

  • Form is submitting when the page loads

    I have a really simple Rails app. Basically an article with comments. I want the article page to show the article, comments underneath and then a textbox to write a comment and a submit button to submit it. I got it all working except for one (big) problem. When the page loads.. example.com/article/1 a blank comment is submitted to the database. I fixed that by including "validates_presence_of :body" in the Comment model.     I am writing a basic function to convert millions of names (one time batch process) from their current form, which is all upper case, to a proper mixed case. Can anyone think of anything I could change or add to capture more edge case? I am sure there are tons of edge cases I am not even thinking of as well. All casing should following North American conventions too meaning that if certain countries expect a specific capitalization format, and that differs from the North American format, then the North American format takes precedence.
