  • Creating a skin engine in MVC

    Does anyone have any experience creating a skin engine for asp.net MVC? I know the suggested approach is to use flexible markup with CSS, but I would like the ability for a new view to be dropped in, and the application use that one instead of the default one. Basically, I want to know how to tell the framework (at run time) to look into a specific folder for the views/content, and if the item isn't there to check the default locations. I started to look into how the Oxite blog engine does it, but it seems like that might be a bit much for what I need (I am still looking through it, so I could be wrong.) Any help is appreciated.

  • Which plugin framework to use for native C++/Win32

    Hi everybody. I have an extensible product that allows 3rd party developers to extend it. The aspects that can be extended are documented and interfaces are provided in the SDK. Currently, I'm using COM and I'm getting pretty comfortable with it. I especially like the ability to provide interface versioning in a unified manner. I consider it to be a requirement because you never know what you're gonna need in the future. Just to be precise, here's an example. Let's suppose I have an interface representing a particular feature: class IFeature { public: virtual void DoFeatureTask() = 0; }; Then after the interface is already documented (and someone may have used it in the plugin code) I'm realizing, I need more from this feature. Maybe, there is an option I need to provide. I just define the second version: class IFeature2 { public: virtual void DoFeatureTask(int theOption) = 0; }; I don't mean I intend to have lots of versions. But it just may happen. In COM, because every interface is associated with a GUID, I can query a preferred implementation, determine its presence, and, finally, fall back to a legacy one. But after glancing through C++/COM-related questions, I noticed many recommendations against COM. So maybe it's not the best choice and I'm just too old-school. Can you advise on an alternative?

    I am looking for a wsdl scaffolding framework, or even better if it was a POCO scaffolding framework. I need something like Dynamic Data, but running on wsdl metadata instead of db. I am currently using office infopath which generates decent forms based on wsdl, but I would like to have it in my app, and generated at runtime. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Handling Types Defined in Plug-ins That Are No Longer Available

    I am developing a .NET framework application that allows users to maintain and save "projects". A project can consist of components whose types are defined in the assemblies of the framework itself and/or in third-party assemblies that will be made available to the framework via a yet-to-be-built plug-in architecture. When a project is saved, it is simply binary-serialised to file. Projects are portable, so multiple users can load the same project into their own instances of the framework (just as different users may open the same MSWord document in their own local copies of MSWord). What's more, the plug-ins available to one user's framework might not be available to that of another. I need some way of ensuring that when a user attempts to open (i.e. deserialise) a project that includes a type whose defining assembly cannot be found (either because of a framework version incompatibility or the absence of a plug-in), the project still opens but the offending type is somehow substituted or omitted. Trouble is, the research I've done to date does not even hint at a suitable approach. Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.

    I'm trying to build a framework for MacOS in Xcode 3. It looks like it's building everything except the Headers directory according to the layout listed in the Apple documentation. I can't find anything that tells me what settings to use to get the build process to copy the headers into Headers directory in the framework, or alternately where I have to put those files.     I'm in the process of weeding out all hardcoded values in a java library and was wondering what framework would be the best (in terms of zero- or close-to-zero configuration) to handle run-time configuration? I would prefer xml-based config-files, but it's not essential. Please do only reply if you have practical experience with a framework. I'm not looking for examples, but experience...     Thats basically my code (simplified): class IndexController extends Zend_Controller_Action { public function indexAction(){ $this->view->setBasePath(APPLICATION_PATH . '/views/partner/xyz/'); $this->view->render('node.phtml'); } } Now what I (obvoiusly) want is to use the view script APPLICATION_PATH . '/views/partner/xyz/node.phtml' but ZF always tries to load APPLICATION_PATH . '/views/partner/xyz/scripts/node.phtml' is there any Way around that Behviour?

  • CakePHP adding columns to a table

    I have a Profile model/controller in my cake app as well as an index.ctp view in /views/profiles. Now, when I go to add a column to my table that is already filled with data, and then add the corresponding code to the view to pick up this column's data, it just gives me an empty result. My model: <?php class Profile extends AppModel { var $name = 'Profile'; } ?> My controller: <?php class ProfilesController extends AppController { var $name = 'Profiles'; function index() { $this->set('profiles', $this->Profile->find('all')); } } ?> My views printing (stripped down): <?php foreach ($profiles as $profile): ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['id']; ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['username']; ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['created']; ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['thumbnail'];?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['account'];?> <?php endforeach; ?> Basically, the columns id, username, column, thumbnail always have been printing fine, but when I add a column called accountit returns no information (nothing prints, but no errors). Any suggestions?

  • Have you switched from CodeIgniter to Kohana?

    Hi All, I usually just work with straight PHP, but want to try MVC and see if a framework will really speed up development. After much waffling, analysis paralysis, and many dumb SO questions, I thought I had settled on CodeIgniter for my next PHP project. However, I am now seriously considering Kohana. Has anyone made the switch from CI to Kohana? If so, why? What's better about the actual code, libraries, etc? Edit: Hi All, I did end up going with Kohana. It's easy to use, but more importantly, it's easy NOT to use, since there are a lot of things I like to work with native PHP for. It's ridiculously extensible, well coded, and seems like it is beginning to pull out ahead of CI in a few things like putting views in views, passing subview data, etc. I am sure CI will catch up, but Kohana should be 3 steps ahead by then =o)

    Hi, I need to decide which configuration framework to use. At the moment I am thinking between using properties files and XML files. My configuration needs to have some primitive grouping, e.g. in XML format would be something like: <configuration> <group name="abc"> <param1>value1</param1> <param2>value2</param2> </group> <group name="def"> <param3>value3</param3> <param4>value4</param4> </group> </configuration> or a properties file (something similar to log4j.properties): group.abc.param1 = value1 group.abc.param2 = value2 group.def.param3 = value3 group.def.param4 = value4 I need bi-directional (read and write) configuration library/framework. Nice feature would be - that I could read out somehow different configuration groups as different objects, so I could later pass them to different places, e.g. - reading everything what belongs to group "abc" as one object and "def" as another. If that is not possible I can always split single configuration object into smaller ones myself in the application initialization part of course. Which framework would best fit for me?

  • Is there a way to preserve HTML Formatting in LiveDocX?

    I have a large amount of content stored in a database as XHTML. I need to be able to pull this formatted content into a simple LiveDocX template with the formatting (bold, italic, bulleted lists, etc) preserved. Is this possible? If so, can anybody post a working example or link to an article? If not, are there other applications that I could look into? The way I currently do this is checking in every single page that a session has been opened. If not, the user gets redirected to a 404 page, to seem like the file which has been requested doesn't exist. I really don't know if this is sure or there's a better and more safety way and I'm currently working with kind of confidential data that should never become public. Could you give me some tips?   • Can you in any way interface Ruby Gems with PHP, Python, etc.?

    Stupid question, and forgive me for asking, but someone is asking me, and I am not a super expert with Rails yet. Suppose I have some Rails gem I write. Now suppose a customer has some other framework, like Django or CakePHP, and I want to provide the functionality offered by my gem (eg. CRUD for automotive data) to them as a module in their framework. Could I somehow make it so they could interface my gem with Django or CakePHP? Obviously I could do something with some API magic--and I'll probably end up going that route. But I just want to know whether there is a way to directly interface with Gems from a non-Rails application.

EDIT Let's say I have a customers list in a file named customers.php That file may be currently on http://www.mydomain.com/admin/customers.php and it must only be visible for the admin user. Once the admin user has been logged in, I create a session variable. That variable is what I check on the top of each page, and if it exists, the customers list is shown.     to capture keystrokes for registering global hotkeys i want to use the shortcut recorder. but i can't get it to work. here is what i have done so far: checked out the current version from the svn installed xcode 3 because my xcode 4 wouldn't build, then built it with xcode 3 in xcode 4, i added the shortcutrecorder.framework in the build-directory to my application, dragged/copied the SRRecorderControl.h to my application directory and inserted #import "SRRecorderControl.h" to my AppDelegate.h when i build and run, it fails and says images not found. i know that there are images in the shortcut recorder main directory, but i dont know where to put these. and: how do i add the special shortcut recorder textfield to my main window?

  • Simple problem with mod_rewrite in the Fat Free Framework

    I am trying to setup and learn the Fat Free Framework for PHP. http://fatfree.sourceforge.net/ It's is fairly simple to setup and I am running it on my machine using MAMP. I was able to get the 'hello world' example running just fin: require_once 'path/to/F3.php'; F3::route('GET /','home'); function home() { echo 'Hello, world!'; } F3::run(); But when I try to add in the second part, which has two routes: require_once 'F3/F3.php'; F3::route('GET /','home'); function home() { echo 'Hello, world!'; } F3::route('GET /about','about'); function about() { echo 'About Us.'; } F3::run(); I get a 404 error if I try the second URL: /about Not sure why one of the mod_rewrite commands would be working and not the other.
