• ASP.NET - Themes and Relative Referencing

  Hello, I have an ASP.NET application that uses themes. Let's pretend I have a theme named "MySkin". I have a page that is in a sub-directory of my application. When I reference a page that uses "MySkin", I noticed that ASP.NET renders a link element that walks up to the root of the site and then down into the App_Themes directory. Here is an example link element I found in a rendered ASP.NET page: <link href="../../App_Themes/MySkin/theme.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> Is there a reason that the rendered link element does not use the following instead: <link href="/App_Themes/MySkin/theme.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" /> Is this a browser compatibility issue or is there another reason? The reason I am asking is because I am rendering my ASP.NET page using Server.Execute and storing the result in a different directory. Because of this, I would prefer to use the second way to reference my theme's css. Thank you!

• WPF MVVM Property Change Animation

  I am looking for a clean way to start an animation that will have dynamic values. Basically I want to do an animation where an element changes width based on the data of another element. Say I have a TextBlock that's Text Property is Binding. When this property changes I want a visual element say a Rectangle for our sake to do a DoubleAnimation changing the width from previous value to the new value. I am trying to stay away from putting code in my view if possible. I've looked into DataTriggers but they seem to require that you know what the value would be such as an Enum. In my case it is just the value changing that needs to trigger a storyboard and the animation would need to start at the current(previous) value and move nicely to the new value. Any ideas. Maybe I just missed a property.

• LINQ-to-XML to DataGridView: Cannot edit fields -- How to fix?

  I am currently doing LINQ-to-XML and populating a DataGridView with my query just fine. The trouble I am running into is that once loaded into the DataGridView, the values appear to be Un-editable (ReadOnly). But I couldn't find an explanation why or exactly what to do about it. Any ideas?

  I managed to create a page the crashes IE6 and 7 regularly as per here: http://raven-seo-tools.com/blog/2675/crash-ie6-with-only-css I have a solution for non-IE browsers (display: inline-block), but the only way to get IE6/7 working is to use different CSS (display: inline). Normally I would have other browsers use inline-block, then in a seperate IE67 CSS file I would set display to inline. The problem is IE67 crash as soon as they reach the display: inline-block line, so I need a way to hide this code from IE6 and 7 but not other browsers.

• ArrayBlockingQueue - How to "interrupt" a thread that is wating on .take() method

  I use an ArrayBlockingQueue in my code. Clients will wait untill an element becomes available: myBlockingQueue.take(); How can I "shutdown" my service in case no elements are present in the queue and the take() ist wating indefenitely for an element to become available? This method throws an InterruptedException. My question is, how can I "evoke" an Interrupted Exception so that take() will quit? (I also tought about notify(), but it seems I doesnt help here..) I know I could insert an special "EOF/QUIT" marker Element but is this really the only solution? UPDATE (regarding the comment, that points to another question with two solutions: one mentioned above using a "Poisoning Pill Object" and the second one is Thread.interrupt(): The myBlockingQueue.take() is used NOT in a Thread (extending Thread) but rather implements Runnable. It seems a Runnable does not provide the .interrupt() method? How could I interrupt the Runnable? Million Thanks Bernhard

• IE 8 html parsing error message.

  I'm experiencing the problem outlined in this kb article. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927917 . Sorry I can't hyperlink cos i don't have enough points! "This problem occurs because a child container HTML element contains script that tries to modify the parent container element of the child container. The script tries to modify the parent container element by using either the innerHTML method or the appendChild method." The problem I'm having diagnosing the source of my problem is 2 fold: 1) This is only happening on some client machines (All are running IE8) and not others. How/Why only some? 2) I don't have any scripts which modify the innerHTML or call appendChild on any dom elements. I do have server side code which modify properties on asp .net server controls. (Essentially all thats happening is a panel control with some more controls is being made visbile or invisible on a button click), would these in turn then set the innerHTML property of the client rendered control(?)

• Help porting a bit of Prototype JavaScript to jQuery

  I have already implemented some AJAX pagination in my Rails app by using the example code for the will_paginate plugin--which is apparently using Prototype. But if I wanted to switch to using jQuery for future additions, I really don't want to have the Prototype stuff sitting around too (yes, I know it's possible).   Hi, I've encountered an inconsistent bug with MacRuby and have no idea how to go about debugging this. If anyone could help would be great. I don't know if this is due to my own code or is it a bug in the MacRuby framework.   I have created a view in Drupal. I"m using javascript to modify css in each row. The script runs on the first row, but does not make the changes on the rest of rows from the view.   I have some stylesheets from different sources in my web project. I want to harmonize them. Some styles I need from the one, some from the other. Is there a tool or method how to systematically resolve style conflicts? I tried IE8 developer tool, and yes, it is possible to view conflicts at the level of each element. But I have many elemens, so if I do it element by element I think this takes too long. Theoretically there could be a tool that shows conflicts of two css files at design time?!? I think this would save me a lot of time.

• How to catch exception on RollBack

  What is the best way to implement error handling for a SqlTransaction RollBack that already exists within a catch clause? My code is roughly like this: using (SqlConnection objSqlConn = new SqlConnection(connStr)) { objSqlConn.Open(); using (SqlTransaction objSqlTrans = objSqlConn.BeginTransaction()) { try { // code // more code // and more code } catch (Exception ex) { // What happens if RollBack() has an exception? objSqlTrans.Rollback(); throw ex; } } } I believe that my application had an exception in the try block, which in turn was caught in the catch block and then the RollBack was attempted. However, the error that I'm seeing says something about a SqlTransaction.ZombieCheck(), which is making me wonder if the RollBack() itself threw an exception as well. So, do I need to implement some type of error handling at the RollBack()? How do I do that and manage to hold on to the exception that put the execution into the catch block in the first place?

How do I make the height of the content-display and nav-menu-container elements extend to the remaining height of the browser window as the browser height is being adjusted by a user provided the height in the browser window is greater than 400px (The height of the header plus the nav-menu-container)? I would like for the scrollbar to be inside the nav-menu-content element if the total height in the browser is greater than the sum of the height of the header (100px) and the nav-menu-container element (300px). If the browser window's height is less than 400px then a scrollbar would appear in the browser window to allow scrolling throughout the 100px header and the 300px min-height of the below elements. • Styling WPF Toolkit DataGrid Column Headers

  Hi, I'm having an issue styling the WPF Datagrid, I've styled the column headers (of type ColumnHeader). But when the data in the columns does not fill the full width of the grid an additional column is added to pad out the grid. This column ignores the ColumnHeader style and looks out of place presumably because the element has a different type, I've looked through the library in object browser but I can't find this element. I've also considered fixing the sizes so this column is unnecessary but thats not a viable option.   I am trying to implement a type of slider using jquery. However this question is about the CSS involved in trying to achieve the functionality. My site design occupies a central column of width 960px. Within this layout there is a central element, that I wish to slide right, on click of a "next" button, and at the same time, another element of the same class slides in from the left to occupy the space vacated. I have drawn a diagram of what I am trying to achieve. In this diagram the red blocks are the element I want to slide in and out, it is grouped by a div which moves left to produce the effect using jQuery I have 2 main questions: How do I get the correct margin values, given that the browser window width can vary and that all elements that are not the current item should be offscreen? 2.If the user were to resize the margins could be dynamically altered based on the values returned using the jQuery resize() event. Or is there a neater quicker better way of doing it using pure CSS?

  I have a javascript slide show that creates the next slide dynamically and then moves it into view. Since the images are actually sprites, the src is transparent.png and the actual image is mapped via background:url(.. in css. Everytime (well, most of the time) the script creates a new Element, Firefox makes an http request for transparent.png. I have a far-future expires header, and Firefox is respecting all other files' expiries. Is there a way to avoid these unnecessary requests. Even though the server is returning 304 unmodified responses, it would be nice if Firefox would respect the expiries on dynamically created images. I suspect that if I injected a simple string instead of using new Element, this might solve the problem, but I use some methods on Prototypes extended Element object, so I would like to avoid a bunch of html strings in my js file. This is a nit-picky question, but I'm working on front-end optimization now, so I thought I would address it. Thanks.

• Retain cycle on `self` with blocks

  I'm afraid this question is pretty basic, but I think it's relevant to a lot of Objective-C programmers who are getting into blocks. What I've heard is that since blocks capture local variables referenced within them as const copies, using self within a block can result in a retain cycle, should that block be copied. So, we are supposed to use __block to force the block to deal directly with self instead of having it copied. __block typeof(self) bself = self; [someObject messageWithBlock:^{ [bself doSomething]; }]; instead of just [someObject messageWithBlock:^{ [self doSomething]; }]; What I'd like to know is the following: if this is true, is there a way that I can avoid the ugliness (aside from using GC)?
