  • CSSRules is empty

    - by Stephanie
    I have this very simple HTML page, and I'm trying to get the CSSRules of #poulet, but when I'm accessing the documents.styleSheets[0].cssRules I get this error in Chrome v5.0.375.55: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'length' of null Here is what my code looks like: //HTML FILE window.onload = function(){ var test = findKeyframesRule('poulet'); alert(test); } <div id="poulet"> allo </div> //JS FILE function findKeyframesRule(rule) { var ss = document.styleSheets; for (var i = 0; i < ss.length; ++i) { for (var j = 0; j < ss[i].cssRules.length; ++j) { if (ss[i].cssRules[j].type == window.CSSRule.WEBKIT_KEYFRAMES_RULE && ss[i].cssRules[j].name == rule) return ss[i].cssRules[j]; } } return null; } //CSS FILE html, body{ background: #cccccc; } #poulet{ border: 10px solid pink; } The files can be found here. I really need help on this one, please!!! D:

  • how do I get a new line, after using float:left?

    - by codeman73
    What I am trying to do is have rows of images, 6 images in each row. Some of these images need to have another image floating on top of them (flush with the lower-right corner). I was able to get that to work from this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/48474/how-do-i-position-one-image-on-top-of-another-in-html However, now I'm unable to get the new row after the 6th image. Neither <BR> or <P> create a new line. They simply push the next image down several pixels, but the image is still in the same line. It seems like the float style is interfering with the <BR> and/or <P>. I tried using different styles for the image that starts a new row, like float:none and display:block, but neither worked. The odd thing is that the new line starts after the 7th image. Here's what I'm using so far: <style type="text/css"> .containerdiv { float: left; position: relative; } .containerdivNewLine { float: none; display: block; position: relative; } .cornerimage { position: absolute; bottom: 0; right: 0; } </style> <div class="containerdiv"> <img border="0" height="188" src="myImg" width="133" /> <img class="cornerimage" height="140" src="imageOnTop" width="105" /> </div> For the 7th image, when I'm trying to start a new row, I'm simply replacing the 'containerdiv' class with 'containerdivNewLine'.

  • Mysterious horizontal lines on my site when rendered on iPad

    - by Ferdy
    The following site: http://staging.jungledragon.com Has a few rendering issues on the iPad using Safari, so I'm trying to fix them. There is one issue where I am stuck though. If you have an iPad, open the site in portrait mode. There are two unwanted horizontal lines appearing, a top one that crosses the tabs (Popular, Fresh, etc) and a bottom one that sits right above the lizard illustration. Both lines should not be there. These lines do not appear on any other browser tested, including Safari on Windows. When you move that same site into landscape mode on the iPad, the top horizontal line dissapears, whilst the bottom one stays. If you zoom in a bit to the bottom line, it then dissapears too. I've been trying out various CSS fixes to no avail and am now beginning to think this is a rendering issue of Safari, although possibly triggered by me. Any help is greatly appreciated. It seems like a minor issue but I hate sloppiness.

  • HTML table with auto-fit for some columns, fixed width for others

    - by sangil
    I'm trying to create a table adhering to the following requirements: The table width must be defined as 0 - the browser should calculate the width according to the column widths (this is to accommodate a column-resize plugin). Some columns may receive a fixed width (e.g. 50px); Columns that do not receive a fixed width, must auto-fit to the content. I have created a small example to illustrate the problem - as you can see column 3 stays at width 0 and so is not visible. HTML <table> <tr> <td class="cell header" id="header1">Header 1</td> <td class="cell header" id="header2">Header 2</td> <td class="cell header" id="header3">Header 3</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="cell">Cell 1</td> <td class="cell">Cell 2</td> <td class="cell">Very looooong content</td> </tr> </table> CSS table { table-layout: fixed; width: 100%; border: 1px solid #696969; } .cell { color: #898989; border: 1px solid #888; padding: 2px; overflow: hidden; } .header { background-color: lightsteelblue; color: black; } #header1, #header2 { width: 50px; } Is this even possible? Any help would be appreciated...

  • Reduce white space between lines of text

    - by user654466
    I am creating a webpage (first time) and i'm following as much of the CSS rules and tags as I can. However, I ran into a problem with white space. I've underlined the first line of text but now the second line seems to have drifted below. Is there a way to make it a bit more snug, i'd like the second line of text to be just below the above line. body,td,th { color: #000000; } body { margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-top: 6px; text-align: center; background-color: #FFFFFF; } #centered { width: 800px; /* set to desired width in px or percent */ text-align: left; /* optionally you could use "justified" */ border: 0px; /* Changing this value will add lines around the centered area */ padding: 0; margin: 0 auto; } .style3 { font-size: 32pt; color: #666666; margin-left: 0px; border-bottom: 3px double; } .style5 { margin-left: 390px; font-size: 32pt; color: #CCCCCC; } --> </style></head> <div id="centered"> <body> <p class="style3">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;FIRST LINE OF TEXT</p> <p class="style5">INDENTED SECOND LINE</p> </body> </div> </body> </html>

  • Image in table cell doesn't scale down: using ie8/7

    - by monks1975
    Can anyone help me troubleshoot my website? http://www.andrewstonyer.co.uk/test/ My problem: On IE8/7 if you click on a thumbnail (only 'Pulse' and 'Time Within The Hour' are wired in right now) an overlay appears with detail of that piece. What should happen, and does in Gecko/Webkit, is that the overlay contains a table with a heading, a scaled, centered image, and a nav menu. There is a toggle for text, which pushes up the image cell and makes the image smaller, keeping proportion. I know the overlay looks like ass right now- those are just placeholder colours :) On IE, the image doesn't fit perfectly in the table cell, which means that everything is pushed down outside the window. I can't see the nav menu. It appears to render the image at actual pixel size (in the CSS, the img class element is set to 100% height). The text cell is toggled with jquery, when toggled on in IE, it doesn't appear to 'squeeze' the above cell, which is what I want to happen. Could any experts help? Regards, Jon

    - by Diver Dan
    I am having trouble trying to get a group of li tags to align how I want. • print friendly version of floated list

    - by Brad
    I have a list of phone extensions that I want to print a friendly version of it. I have a print css for it to print appropriately onto paper, the extensions are located within an unordered list, which are floated to the left. <ul> <li>Larry Hughes <span class="ext">8291</span></li> <li>Chuck Davis <span class="ext">3141</span></li> <li>Kevin Skillis <span class="ext">5115</span></li> </ul> I float it left, and when it prints the second page, it leaves off the name part of the list (in Firefox, works fine in Google Chrome and IE), see here: http://cl.ly/de965aea63f66c13ba32 I am referring to this: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/goingtoprint/ - they mentioned something about applying a float:none; to the content part of the page. If I do that, how should I go about making the list show up in 4 columns? It is a dynamic list, pulled from a database. Any help is appreciated.

  • div with absolute position behind the normal flow

    - by vasion
    i am trying to get a div to be my background and am using absolute positioning to achieve it. everything works fine except for the fact that it appears above anything in the normal flow and fiddling with z-indexes does absolutely nothing. <div id="blind"> <div id="blindbackground"></div> <div id="blindcontainer"><div class="loader"><img class='loader' src="/img/loader.gif"/></div></div> <div id="blindclosecontainer"><img id='blindclose' src="/img/close.gif"/></div> </div> and this is the css: #blind{ position :absolute; width:100%; z-index: 2; border-bottom: 1px silver solid; } #blindclosecontainer{ text-align: right; } #blindbackground{ position:absolute; top:0; width:100%; height:100%; background-color: white; filter:alpha(opacity=60); opacity:0.6; } #blindcontainer{ margin:auto; width:500px; background-color: white; padding:10px; } .loader{ margin: auto; width:18px; margin-top:10px; margin-bottom: 5px; }

  • Border of single th spreads to neighboring th when colspan set on td row below

    - by Samuel Hapak
    Having following html code: <table> <tr><th>First</th><th class='second'>Second</th><th class='third'>Third</th><th>Fourth</th></tr> <tr><td>Mike</td><td colspan=2 >John</td><td>Paul</td></tr> </table>? And following css: table { border-collapse: collapse; } td, th { border: 1px black solid; } td { border-top: none; } th { border-bottom: none; } th.second { border-bottom: 3px green solid; } th.third { } ? I would expect as result one table with 3px solid green line below the second th cell. Instead of that in Chrome, I have solid green border below both the second and the third th cell. In the firefox, results are just as expected. Is this browser bug, or my code is illegal? You can see example at http://jsfiddle.net/tt6aP/3/ PS: Try to set th.third { border-bottom: 2px solid red; } And then try to raise it to 3px. This is even more strange. Screenshots Expected: Chrome: Firefox:

  • tbody td borders not scrolling with content in tbody overflow:auto;

    - by tester
    I am unable to get the borders of these td's to follow their rows as I scroll through this overflow:auto; . Any ideas on a fix? Note: Setting table-layout:fixed or making rows display:block isn't an option as the rows will lose their fluidity.. You can see the issue in the latest Firefox, so I assume it's messed up elsewhere. Here is a test I setup (scroll to the bottom for the demo): http://www.webdevout.net/test?01y HTML: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html lang="en"> <head> <title>Test</title> </head> <body> <table> <thead><th>One</th><th>Two</th><th>Three</th></thead> <tbody> <tr><td>Item</td><td>Item</td><td>Item</td></tr> <tr><td>Item</td><td>Item</td><td>Item</td></tr> <tr><td>Item</td><td>Item</td><td>Item</td></tr> <tr><td>Item</td><td>Item</td><td>Item</td></tr> </tbody> </table> </body> </html> CSS: table {width:100%;border-collapse:collapse;} tbody {height:200px;overflow:auto;} td {border-bottom:1px solid #f00;}

  • Set z-index with javascript setTimeout()

    - by user2266261
    What I'm trying to do is to have 4 expandable divs overlapping each other with transition set in css for 0.6s. Because the expanding lasts for 0.6s I'd like to have the expanded div lose it's higher z-index after it's done collapsing, otherwise it looks silly. However, it doesn't work, the z-index remains unchanged. It's probably somethings stupid, but I just can't find it. Thanks! <div class="wrapper" style="position: relative;"> <div id="one" style="position: absolute;" onmouseover=" this.style.height='250px'; this.style.zIndex='1'; " onmouseout=" this.style.height='50px'; setTimeout(function() {this.style.zIndex='0';},600); ">blahblahblahblah</div> <div id="two" style="position: absolute;" onmouseover=" this.style.height='250px'; this.style.zIndex='1'; " onmouseout=" this.style.height='50px'; setTimeout(function() {this.style.zIndex='0';},600); ">blahblahblahblah</div> </div>

  • Creating sublines on Joomla menu items

    - by ploughansen
    In my toplevel menu items, I would like to make a subline for each item. I don't think it's possible to do by default, byt YooTheme has done it in many of their templates. The menu output look like this <div class="moduletable_menu"> <ul id="mainmenu" class="menu"> <li class="active item1" id="current"> <a href="URL_HIDDEN"> <span>Services</span> </a> </li> </ul> This basically outputs a one line menu item like so: Services What I would like to do is have a menu item like this: Services Service x, Service y, Service z For reference, have a look at the main menu on the YooTheme demo page. The way YooTheme does this, is using two pipes (||) as a linebreak, so in the Joomla backend you type "Services||Service x, Service y, Service z" as the menu title, and then there must be some fancy javascript that breaks this title into two spans, ready to be styled using css. Does anyone know of an easy way to code this? Please note that I am looking to build this feature into a custom template (ie. non-yootheme). Also note that I am not using MooTools, but Jquery instead.

  • Content boundary with rounded corners

There is any other way I am missing?

  • How to change the width of displayed text nested in a div?

    - by romaintaz
    Hello, Imagine I have the following code (simplified regarding my real context of course): <div id="box" style="width: 120px;" onmouseover="this.style.width='200px'" onmouseout="this.style.width='120px'"> <div>A label</div> <div>Another label</div> <div>Another label, but a longer label</div> </div> What I want to achieve is the following: My div box has a fixed width (120px by default). In this configuration, every label nested in the box must be written in a single line. If the text is too long, then the overflow must be hidden. In my example, the third item will be displayed Another label, but a or Another label, but a .... When the cursor is entering the div box, the width of the box is modified (for example to 200px). In this configuration, the labels that were shorten in the first configuration are now displayed in the whole space. With my code snippet, the third label is displayed in two lines when the box has a 120px, and I do not want that... How can I achieve that? Note that I would be great if the solution works also for IE6! Even if I prefer a pure CSS/HTML solution, (simple) Javascript (and jQuery) is allowed!

  • IE6: Height "1em minus 1px"

    - by chris_l
    I need a div with a height of exactly 1em minus 1px. This can be achieved in most browsers like this: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <style type="text/css"> .helper { /* background-color: black; */ position: absolute; top: 5em; left: 5em; width: 2em; height: 1em; } .target { background-color: #89f; position: absolute; top: 0; bottom: 1px; width: 100%; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="helper"> <div class="target"></div> </div> </body> </html> The "target" div has the desired height. The problem is, that this doesn't work in IE6, because it ignores the bottom attribute, when top is set (a well known problem). Is there a workaround for IE6 (maybe with multiple nested divs, with borders/paddings/margins/whatever), or will JavaScript be the only solution? Please note, that I can't use Quirks Mode.

  • form submit button moves cutting image

    - by flavour404
    Hi I have a submit button and am styling it using the following css: .subm { background-color:Transparent; background-image:url(Images/Button_Send.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; width:82px; height:30px; display:block; border:none; outline:none; overflow:visible;} .subm:hover { background-color:Transparent; background-image:url(Images/Button_Send_Over.png); background-repeat:no-repeat; width:82px; height:30px; display:block; border:none; outline:none; overflow:visible; } Here is the html: <input type="submit" class="subm" value="" /> Nothing surprising. However, what annoys me is that when the submit button is clicked in IE it moves the image up a couple of pixels cutting them off which makes it look, hmm, good word, 'naff.' How can I compensate or stop this? I have tried expanding the image and leaving a couple of blank pixels at the top but it still does the same thing! Thanks R.

  • Table overflow working in Chrome and IE but not Firefox

    - by Craig
    I am trying to get a layout that always takes up the entire screen, no more, no less. The layout has a header row, a 200px wide left bar (scrollable), and a scrollable content area. This works in Chrome and IE, but in Firefox the scroll bars never show nor work. Any thoughts? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"> <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> * { margin: 0; padding: 0; } html, body { height: 100%; background-color: yellow; overflow: hidden; } #viewTable { width: 100%; height: 100%; background-color: red; } #header { height: 72px; background-color: blue; } #leftcol { vertical-align: top; width: 200px; height: 100%; background-color: green; } #menu { height: 100%; overflow: auto; } #rightcol { vertical-align: top; width: auto; height: 100%; background-color: purple; } #content { height: 100%; overflow: auto; } </style> </head> <body> </body> <table id="viewTable" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td colspan="2" id="header"> Header </td> </tr> <tr> <td id="leftcol"> <div id="menu"> 0<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 100<br/> </div> </td> <td id="rightcol"> <div id="content"> 0<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 1<br/> 100<br/> </div> </td> </tr> </table> hi </html> I would have preferred to use CSS, but could not find any way to do it.   • Weird margin in a list

    - by kevin
    I'm trying to style a menu, but I keep running into this weird margin that's appearing in both FF4 and IE. This is the only affecting css: #header ul { display: inline; } #header ul li { list-style-type: none; background: #000; display: inline; margin: 0; padding: 0; } #header ul li a { color: #fff; text-decoration: none; display: inline-block; width: 100px; text-align: center; } And this is the HTML: <div id="header"> <ul id="toplinks"> <li><a href="#">Hello</a></li> <li><a href="#">Herp</a></li> <li><a href="#">Derp</a></li> </ul> </div> As you can see, there's a margin appearing on both sides, and I'd like it so it would have no margin (or maybe 1px would be okay)...

  • Alternative for table mark-up in ASP.NET not working properly

    - by yetanothercoder
    Using Visual WebDeveloper 2010 Express and ASP.NET 4.0 Don't know whether its relevant but the whole thing is in a ContentPlaceHolder and inside an UpdatePanel. To avoid using the old table tr td model, I have created a simple form like this <div class="admin-form"> <asp:Label ID="UserNameLabel" runat="server" CssClass="form-label" Text="User Name" /> <asp:TextBox ID="UserNameText" runat="server" Width="200px"/> <br /> <asp:Label ID="PasswordLabel" runat="server" CssClass="form-label" Text="Password" /> <asp:TextBox ID="PasswordText" runat="server" TextMode="Password" Width="200px"/> <br /> <asp:Label ID="ConfirmPasswordLabel" runat="server" CssClass="form-label" Text="Confirm Password" /> <asp:TextBox ID="ConfirmPasswordText" runat="server" TextMode="Password" Width="200px"/> <br /> <asp:Label ID="EmailLabel" runat="server" CssClass="form-label" Text="Email" /> <asp:TextBox ID="EmailText" runat="server" Width="200px"/> <br /> <br /> <br /> <span class="form-label"></span> <asp:Button ID="CreateUserButton" runat="server" CssClass="button blue" Text="Create New User"/> </div> And the CSS .form-label { width: 300px !important; } This renders incorrectly as I would like to have all textboxes vertically lined after taking 300px. What is wrong? P.S: I cannot use HTML Controls like label as I have resx for globalization

  • Refactor link to show/hide a table row

    - by abatishchev
    I have a table with row which cab be hidden by user. It's implemented this way: Markup: <table> <tr> <td> <table style="margin-left: auto; text-align: right;"> <tr> <td class="stats-hide"> <a href="#" onclick="hideStats();">Hide</a> </td> <td class="stats-show" style="display: none;"> <a href="#" onclick="showStats();">Show</a> </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> <tr class="stats-hide"> <td> <!-- data --> </td> </tr> </table> And jQuery code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> function hideStats() { hideControls(true, $('.stats-hide')); hideControls(false, $('.stats-show')); } function showStats() { hideControls(false, $('.stats-hide')); hideControls(true, $('.stats-show')); } function hideControls(value, arr) { $(arr).each(function () { if (value) { $(this).hide(); } else { $(this).show(); } }); } </script> How to implement the same behavior with one, single link and one, probably, CSS class? My idea - store somewhere a boolean variable and toggle controls visibility relatively to this variable. Are there more?

  • Self organizing layouts

    - by user613326
    Quite a while ago i was more in websites building then i am now. In my time there where huge debates about what to use; tables or pure CSS alternatives. I went out of the webdesigning, but now an old question re-surfaces. What i would like to create is a web page design that depending on screensize, would self organize the page into columns, so that for example on a PDA it would show 1 column On an old computer monitor, it would show 2 colomns, and on a widescreen laptop it would show 3 columns. I forgot how this was called and how it was done in the past, it had to do with XML and storing data seperate from design (if i remember well), perhaps these days better methods exist to do that, does this, anyone ring this a bell ? Also i note a lot is possible with Jquery and and brouwser depending webkits. But i need to make sure that it would run on all (modern) brouwsers : Iexplorer, Firefox, chrome And Jquery is nice too, but i am kinda woried that some day one of these brouwser vendors decides that jscript like java isnt enabled by default (or is that very unlikely ?)11 Perhaps someone can point me to a method that is the prefered way to do this.

  • Identical files from different servers. Why might IE 8 display them differently?

    - by jasongetsdown
    I'm working on a site that will go on my company's intranet. I developed it locally on my computer, checking it in different browsers and on colleague's computers, and when it was done I handed it off to IT. They put identical copies on a staging server, and on the production server. This is a site built only with html, javascript, and css. No server side scripting. It also uses a DWF viewer plugin from Autodesk. It is a single standalone page (not part of a CMS) that allows users to load drawings into the viewer and then click to see info from a database of space info saved in a series of js arrays (the space DB software spits out a js file with all the info listed in array literals, creating a crap ton of global variables - ugh, but I digress). When I followed their links (using IE 8) the version on the staging server looked as expected, but the layout is hosed on the version from the production server. Specifically, it seems like a div that is supposed to flow to the right of a div that is float: left is displaying below the floated div at full width, as though it was clear: left (which it is not). It also has the wrong height. I downloaded the files from each and they are identical to my local version. Frustrated, I cleared my browser's cache, restarted my computer, checked it on a colleague's computer who also has IE 8. All the same issue. Staging server good. Production server bad. Finally I uninstalled IE 8 and looked at it in IE 6. Both versions looked fine. So, to recap. Two different servers. No server side scripting. Identical files. One browser agrees they are identical, the other does not. What could cause this?
