• slow android emulator

  I have a 2.67GHz Celeron Processor, 1.21GBs of RAM on a x86 Windows XP Pro machine. My understanding is that the emulator should start fairly quickly on such a machine, but for me it does not. I have followed all instructions in setting up the IDE, SDKs, JDKs and such and have had some success in staring the emulator quickly but is very particulary. How can I if possible fix this problem. Even if it starts and loads home screen it is very sluggish. Any help would be appreciated guys thanks. I have tried the Eclipse IDE in Galileos, and Ganymede.

Have looked through stackoverflow and other online resources, but haven't find an answer to this and it's driving me crazy. List<String> ls=new ArrayList<String>(); Scanner input = new Scanner(new File("Input.txt")); while(input.hasNextLine()) { ls.add(input.nextLine()); } The same code works if I put the absolute path like this: Scanner input = new Scanner(new File("F:/Spring and other stuff/AjaxDemo/src/com/pdd/ajax/Input.txt")); The Java file and text file are there in the same folder. Does it searches text file in some other folder ?

• Looking for a source code management system with a good GUI client

  We are currently using CS-RCS Pro for source code management, and are looking for to replace this due to performance issues. It is based on client side file access with no own protocol, which makes it painfully slow to use over a slow VPN line since it always rewrites the whole history of a file. It does however have a GUI client which is very simple and gives a great overview. We have three main requirements in a SCM: Fast. It must have a server side service or some other smart way so working with files with a large history is fast. A good Windows GUI client (not Explorer shell integration, not VS or Eclipse IDE integration), so working with files and branches is easy. The possibility to have several branches checked out at once in different directories. Does anyone have a recommendation of a SCM which fulfills there requirements?

  I program a class in which I have a method which takes an callback object from an external software. At the moment Eclipse says that it does not know the type of the object I gave as argument (it is expectable since I do not specify this type, it's done by the external software). So, I think I need to write an interface for the object which I give as an argument to my method. In this respect I have two questions. Is it really so? Can I solve the mentioned problem in the mentioned way. If it is the case, where should I put this interface? In the same file where my class is? In the class? Outside of the class?

• Using svn remove - preserve file on disk instead of having it deleted?

  Hi, I am creating an eclipse project, which generates a lot of files I don't want to keep under version control. For example, it creates a project folder like: project/ bin/ horse.class cow.class src/ horse.java cow.java so what I do is add the project folder to svn, like: svn add project this puts everything under control, even the bin and .class files. All of those files will have the little 'a' next to them. How can I simply remove the 'add' status from those files? If I try: svn remove bin/horse.class I have to use the --force option and it deletes the file from disk. Is there a way to simply remove it from source but not delete the file from disk? Thanks

My job and personal experience covers many project-specific Swing client frameworks as well as the Eclipse RCP, and every one of them had some original and clever concepts, but also drawbacks and rigid realizations. My plan is to incorporate the best of those concepts and features into a new framework whose core is very open and extendable. For my must-have-features list, I'm counting on your input and hope you can share some concept pearls & diamonds you've encountered in other frameworks, or features you always wanted to have or have in a better way. I have tried the "Fix Project Properties" via "Android Tools" but this does nothing to fix the problem. I have put the extracted folder for the tutorial in various locations - this did nothing. • Can't install APK hosted my own apache server

  I've exported an apk from eclipse. I am able to install it without any problem if I copy it to the phone's sd card. When trying to download via phone's (Galaxy S) browser I get: "Download unsuccessful". I have set mime type application/vnd.android.package-archive in the mime.types, restarted apache, still same result. Also tried : <a href="downloads/my_apk.apk" type="application/vnd.android.package-archive">Download App</a> Still no luck. I am able to download and install applications from android market. I suspect that apache is not sending the mime type but this is just a shot in the dark. How can I fix the problem and be able to install APKs from my web server? (or at least to check if apache sends correct header with mime type) Any help will be appreciated.

  I've been programming in Java for a few courses in the University and I have the following question: Is it methodologically accepted that every class should implement an interface? Is it considered bad practice not to do so? Can you describe a situation where it's not a good idea to use interfaces? Edit: Personally, I like the notion of using Interfaces for everything as a methodology and habit, even if it's not clearly beneficial. Eclipse automatically created a class file with all the methods, so it doesn't waste any time anyway.

• why does the gingerbread emulator orientation gets stuck in apps?

  At first I thought this was a problem with my app, but it seems to be happening in any app (though interestingly, not the home screen) in the gingerbread emulator. To replicate my issue, open eclipse and fire up the android emulator for gingerbread (I'm using the "Google APIs - API Level 9" as my target) So the procedure to duplicate once the emulator loads is press LCtrl-F11 to shift orientation to landscape, then again to switch to portrait Result: In the homescreen: The view rotates to landscape, and then back to portrait, as expected In any app (i've tried browser, calculator, maps, and the app i'm currently working on): the view rotates to landscape, and then nothing, it stays in landscape even the emulator is displaying the phone in landscape mode (see below) http://i54.tinypic.com/2ake06v.jpg Has anyone else had this issue, or have I installed the emulator in some incorrect way - this hasn't been an issue with any of the previous emulators

  Hi People! I am building a Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) with Java. I won't get into details But I have to build multiple servers who make use of the same classes. I have the following directory structure: /server1 -Main.java /server2 -Main.java /com -Database.java I want to import from the Main.java class for example the Database.class. But of course the following statements won't work: import com.Database; I am working with the javac compiler in the command line (so not eclipse stuff or whatever. just TextMate and the command line). And I found a (pretty stupid) solution by creating a symbolic link in the servers to the com directory. But that is not really an ideal solution. Does anybody have a better one?? • Maven + Tomcat acceleration

  I am writing a web application with Maven in the Eclipse IDE, and use Tomcat servlet container. So, I run Maven like this: mvn clean compile. It is reasonable that after this oepration I must re-run Tomcat so it can reinitialize the context (Sysdeo Tomcat launcher helps a lot). The problem is Maven execution and subsequebt Tomcat re-running takes noticable amount of time (like 10+ seconds for Maven and 20+ sec. for Tomcat, because of logging, Hibernate mappings, etc.) every time I do it. Is there any automated and more faster solution for these two operatioins? As I see it, a way better solution can be moving re-compiled classes only to the target dir.

  Note: This is an extension of an earlier question I asked here: Do additional function/method definitions increase a program's memory footprint? When I write a class, I usually end up writing several testing/debugging methods, used to make sure the class works as it should, or for printing data to help with debugging, or for unit testing, etc. Is there an easy/automatic way to make a release without these methods, or do I need to manually delete the extra code any time I want to compile a release version? I ask this question both from a C++ and a Java perspective. I'm using Code::Blocks and Eclipse as IDEs, if that plays into the answer somehow.

  In the spirit of type safety associated with the CriteriaQuery JPA 2.0 also has an API to support Metamodel representation of entities. Is anyone aware of a fully functional implementation of this API (to generate the Metamodel... as opposed to creating the metamodel classes manually)? It would be awesome if someone also knows the steps for setting this up in Eclipse (I assume it's as simple as setting up an annotation processor, but you never know).   How do I get bundled images with the BlackBerry Eclipse Plugin 1.1 Beta? I copied an image into "res/background.jpg" and tried to load it using Bitmap.getBitmapResource on background.jpg. Unfortunately, the image wasn't found (Illegal argument exception). I tried moving my image file into the src folder as per the advice here, but that didn't work either. I have opened up the .jar file and the background image is present at the root of the .jar file. The option to convert image files to .png isn't selected either. First I am taking the war folder already exploded and copy it in jetty/webapps, then in folder context.
