• JavaScript: Keeping track of eventListeners on DOM elements

- by bobthabuilda
What is the best way to keep track of eventListener functions on DOM elements? Should I add a property to the element which references the function like this: var elem = document.getElementsByTagName( 'p' )[0]; function clickFn(){}; elem.listeners = { click: [clickFn, function(){}] }; elem.addEventListener( 'click', function(e){ clickFn(e); }, false ); Or should I store it in my own variable in my code like below: var elem = document.getElementsByTagName( 'p' )[0]; function clickFn(){}; // Using window for the sake of brevity, otherwise I wouldn't =D // DOM elements and their listeners are referenced here in a paired array window.listeners = [elem, { click: [clickFn, function(){}] }]; elem.addEventListener( 'click', function(e){ clickFn(e); }, false ); Obviously the second method would be less obtrusive, but it seems it could get intensive iterating through all those possibilities. Which is the best way and why? Is there a better way?

• Why does my REST request return garbage data?

- by Alienfluid
I am trying to use LWP::Simple to make a GET request to a REST service. Here's the simple code: use LWP::Simple; $uri = "http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/questions/tagged/php"; $jsonresponse= get $uri; print $jsonresponse; On my local machine, running Ubuntu 10.4, and Perl version 5.10.1: farhan@farhan-lnx:~$ perl --version This is perl, v5.10.1 (*) built for x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi I can get the correct response and have it printed on the screen. E.g.: farhan@farhan-lnx:~$ head -10 output.txt { "total": 1000, "page": 1, "pagesize": 30, "questions": [ { "tags": [ "php", "arrays", "coding-style" (... snipped ...) But on my host's machine to which I SSH into, I get garbage printed on the screen for the same exact code. I am assuming it has something to do with the encoding, but the REST service does not return the character set type in the response, so how do I force LWP::Simple to use the correct encoding? Any ideas what may be going on here? Here's the version of Perl on my host's machine: [dredd]$ perl --version This is perl, v5.8.8 built for x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi

• How do I implement google maps yelp.com style?

- by Craig
I have multiple locations (20+ per page) that need to be mapped on a single map. I would like to click on a link for the location that is not dynamically generated (for SEO purposes) that would open the info window for the respective marker on the map. Behavior should mimic http://maptheburg.com/ - but this map has the sidebar links dynamically generated. Yelp.com is the only site I have seen so far that manages to implement the Google Maps API with unobtrusive JavaScript.

• jquery ui autocomplete database

- by user343925
Hello, I'd like to use jQuery UI autocomplete in order to load a list from my database but I don't know wich method I should use to do so. I tried to use the "Remote datasource" method http://jqueryui.com/demos/autocomplete/#remote, but it obviously doesn't work. I have the following code : js: $(function() { $("#client").autocomplete({ source: "nom.php", minLength: 2, select: function(event, ui) { alert(ui); } }); }); html : <label for="client">Client</label> <input name="client" id="client" class="ui-autocomplete ui-widget-content ui-corner-all" /> php: $query = "SELECT nom from personne"; $result = mysql_query($query, $db); while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { foreach($row as $val) $tab[] = $val; } print json_encode($tab); It does work with ["hello","test1","test2"] instead of the url but I need to load datas form database so pls tell me how I should do. thank you

• Using same name for Core Data object as a Private Framework Object

- by bjorn geez
Hi all, I've got a core data-based app for iPhone and I'm getting the following warning: objc[2472]: Class Property is implemented in both /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Notes.framework/Notes and /var/mobile/Applications/B69194FF-448F-48AD-A78D-DDB8935F/AmcCalc.app/AmcCalc. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined. When I started working on this app back with SDK 3.0 I didn't get this error, so how do I deal with this? Thanks! Bjorn

• ExtJs: Tree: how download then select using AJAX calls ?

- by Olivier Pons
Hi, Here's my goal : - open a tree - download the root nodes - expand automatically one specific node using AJAX (and loop n times here) until i find a leaf then select the leaf Here's the function that works when I declare the Tree : listeners: { load: function(n) { console.log('load(n)'); n.eachChild( function(n) { if ((n.id=='lys/2007') || (n.id=='lys/2007/08') || (n.id=='lys/2007/08/29')) { n.expand(false, false); } }); } } But if I don't know how to make it more "generic" (almost exactly like the ExtJs documentation). But they don't jump automatically to a specific node (i.e. I want no user interaction). Any idea / advice how to do this? Don't hesitate to edit my post to make it proper English :)

• jquery ui autocomplete with database

- by user301766
I fairly new to JQuery and perhaps trying to achieve something that might be abit harder for a beginner. However I am trying to create an autocomplete that sends the current value to a PHP script and then returns the necessary values. Here is my Javascript code $("#login_name").autocomplete({ source: function(request, response) { $.ajax({ url: "http://www.myhost.com/myscript.php", dataType: "jsonp", success: function(data) { alert(data); response($.map(data, function(item) { return { label: item.user_login_name, value: item.user_id } })) } }) }, minLength: 2 }); And here is the the last half of "myscript.php" while($row = $Database->fetch(MYSQLI_ASSOC)) { foreach($row as $column=>$val) { $results[$i][$column] = $val; } $i++; } print json_encode($results); Which produces the following output [{"user_id":"2","user_login_name":"Name1"},{"user_id":"3","user_login_name":"Name2"},{"user_id":"4","user_login_name":"Name3"},{"user_id":"5","user_login_name":"Name4"},{"user_id":"6","user_login_name":"Name5"},{"user_id":"7","user_login_name":"Name6"}] Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong please? Starting to get quite frustrated. The input box just turns "white" and no options are shown. The code does work if I specify an array of values.

• Cross Domain Scripting Issues & JSONP

- by DaveDev
Our Client requires that we supply Widgits for their site. They want to link to us to get Html & the jQuery required to manipulate the Html and do asynchronous requests. I understand that there are cross-domain security limitations that would prevent this from being a possibility, but that some of those limitations are aleviated by using JSONP as the data transfer format. I'm finding it difficult in finding an explanation of what's possible in the context of what I'm trying to achieve. Could somebody please fill me in?

• question regarding rails framework code

- by Joseph Misiti
I noticed that the code in the rails framework is using the following convention all over the place: class SomeClass class << self def some function end end end rather than class SomeClass end def SomeClass.function end and class SomeClass def self.somefunction end end What is the reason for this design choice? They all seem to accomplish them same thing
