  • Whats the best method for queuing time-sensitive messages with PHP/MySQL?

    I'm building an SMS call and response system in a new app that receives a message via an aggregator gateway, checks it for functional keywords (run, stop, ask, etc), then processes it appropriately (save to the database, return an answer, or execute a task based on the users authorization). It's running fine at the moment as there are only a few users, but I figure its going to have more issues as we scale it up. We're currently running it on a single DV machine (mediatemple base dv). My question is this: does it make more sense to set something up like Memcached to run a queue, or a simple database with a daemon running to process each message one by one? I don't have much experience with either, so any advice would be helpful. Since the messaging is somewhat time-sensitive, what would be the fastest and most reliable way to handle this? Also, since we're sending responses, I'll probably need to set up and outbound message queue as well. Would it make sense to use the same concept for both?

  • Is there a more correct type for passing in the file path and file name to a method

    Hi What I mean by this question is, when you need to store or pass a URL around, using a string is probably a bad practice, and a better approach would be to use a URI type. However it is so easy to make complex things more complex and bloated. So if I am going to be writing to a file on disk, do I pass it a string, as the file name and file path, or is there a better type that will be better suited to the requirement? This code seems to be clunky, and error prone? I would also need to do a whole bit of checking if it is a valid file name, if the string contains data and the list goes on. private void SaveFile(string fileNameAndPath) { //The normal stuff to save the file }

  • Copying 6000 tables and data from sqlserver to oracle ==> fastest method?

    i need to copy the tables and data (about 5 yrs data, 6200 tables) stored in sqlserver, i am using datastage and odbc connection to connect and datstage automatically creates the table with data, but its taking 2-3 hours per table as tables are very large(0.5 gig, 300+columns and about 400k rows). How can i achieve this the fastes as at this rate i am able to only copy 5 tables per day but within 30 days i need move over these 6000 tables.

(I say unknown object type because I am not sure what direction to go) Once I have the data loaded I need to do some processing on certain elements that are now loaded into the new object. For sake of example, we can say that the xml file is full of elements named and within the car element I need to process the element.     Hello, We are receiving an XML file from our client. I want to load the data from this file into a class, but am unsure about which way to go about it. I have an XSD to defining what is expected in the XML file, so therefore i can easily validate the XML file. Can i use the XSD file to load the data into a POCO, using some sort of serialization? The other way i was thinking was to load the xml into a XMLDocument and use XPath to populate each property in my class. Cheers for any advice

    I just solved the first problem from Project Euler in JavaFX for the fun of it and wondered what block expressions are actually good for? Why are they superior to functions? Is it the because of the narrowed scope? Less to write? Performance? Here's the Euler example.   • Cross-browser method for hiding page elements until all content is loaded to prevent layout from appearing broken during load?

    I have an issue where due to some elements loading faster than others, the page looks broken for a few seconds at the start. An example is the CSS Pie behavior that allows me to do curved corners in IE, it appears before it becomes curved which looks bad. What would be ideal would be it somehow knowing when everything is loaded and then appear all at once, possibly including some kind of elegant visual way of not making the user feel impatient... any ideas or common tricks for doing this?

Problem is, if the work done in the background is suddenly insignificant for whatever reason, process() receives a huge list of objects (I have seen 1,000,000, for instance) and by the time you process each object, you have spent 20 seconds on the Event Dispatch Thread, exactly what SwingWorker was designed to avoid. In case it isn't clear, both of these occur on the same SwingWorker class for me - it depends on the input data, and the type of processing the caller wanted. Is there a proper way to handle this? Obviously I can intentionally delay or yield the background processing thread so that a smaller number might arrive each time, but this doesn't feel like the right solution to me.

  • Why is my List.Sort method in C# reversing the order of my list?

    I have a list of items in a generic list: A1 (sort index 1) A2 (sort index 2) B1 (sort index 3) B2 (sort index 3) B3 (sort index 3) The comparator on them takes the form: this.sortIndex.CompareTo(other.sortIndex) When I do a List.Sort() on the list of items, I get the following order out: A1 A2 B3 B2 B1 It has obviously worked in the sense that the sort indexes are in the right order, but I really don't want it to be re-ordering the 'B' items. Is there any tweak I can make to my comparator to fix this?
