  • Debugging stack data not assigned to a named variable

    - by gibbss
Is there a way to view stack elements like un-assigned return values or exceptions that not assigned to a local variable? (e.g. throw new ...) For example, suppose I have code along the lines of: public String foo(InputStream in) throws IOException { NastyObj obj = null; try { obj = new NastyObj(in); return (obj.read()); } finally { if (obj != null) obj.close(); } } Is there any way to view the return or exception value without stepping to a higher level frame where it is assigned? This is particularly relevant with exceptions because you often have to step back up through a number of frames to find an actual handler. I usually use the Eclipse debugging environment, but any answer is appreciated. Also, if this cannot be done, can you explain why? (JVM, JPDA limitation?)

  • Perl - how to get the number of elements in a list (not a named array)

    - by NXT
Hi Everyone, I'm trying to get a block of code down to one line. I need a way to get the number of items in a list. My code currently looks like this: # Include the lib directory several levels up from this directory my @ary = split('/', $Bin); my @ary = @ary[0 .. $#ary-4]; my $res = join '/',@ary; lib->import($res.'/lib'); That's great but I'd like to make that one line, something like this: lib->import( join('/', ((split('/', $Bin)) [0 .. $#ary-4])) ); But of course the syntax $#ary is meaningless in the above line. Is there equivalent way to get the number of elements in an anonymous list? Thanks! PS: The reason for consolidating this is that it will be in the header of a bunch of perl scripts that are ancillary to the main application, and I want this little incantation to be more cut & paste proof.

  • Problem passing a reference as a named parameter to a variadic function

    - by Michael Mrozek
I'm having problems in Visual Studio 2003 with the following: void foo(const char*& str, ...) { va_list args; va_start(args, str); const char* foo; while((foo = va_arg(args, const char*)) != NULL) { printf("%s\n", foo); } } When I call it: const char* one = "one"; foo(one, "two", "three", NULL); I get: Access violation reading location 0xcccccccc on the printf() line -- va_arg() returned 0xcccccccc. I finally discovered it's the first parameter being a reference that breaks it -- if I make it a normal char* everything is fine. It doesn't seem to matter what the type is; being a reference causes it to fail at runtime. Is this a known problem with VS2003, or is there some way in which that's legal behavior? It doesn't happen in GCC; I haven't tested with newer Visual Studios to see if the behavior goes away

  • How to copy subdirectories of multiple un-named directories

    - by Scrubbie
    Using just Ant, I want to copy subdirectories of some top-level directories but the names of top-level directories can change so I need Ant to programatically determine which directories to copy. In other words, given the sample directory structure below, copy the contents of each ./<projectX>/bin directory to ./bin. bin project1 \-- bin \-- com \-- name \-- dir1 \-- file1.class \-- file2.class \-- file3.class \-- dir2 \-- file4.class \-- file5.class project2 \-- bin \-- com \-- name \-- dir3 \-- file6.class \-- file7.class \-- file8.class project3 \-- bin \-- com \-- name \-- dir4 \-- file9.class \-- dir5 \-- file10.class \-- file11.class And the end result would be a bin directory that looks like this: bin \-- com \-- name \-- dir1 \-- file1.class \-- file2.class \-- file3.class \-- dir2 \-- file4.class \-- file5.class \-- dir3 \-- file6.class \-- file7.class \-- file8.class \-- dir4 \-- file9.class \-- dir5 \-- file10.class \-- file11.class I've tried <copy todir="${basedir}/bin"> <fileset dir="${basedir}"> <include name="**/bin/*"/> <exclude name="bin"/> </fileset> </copy> but that includes the projectX/bin directories underneath the top-level bin directory.

  • one codeigniter controller named site needs to handle multiple domains

    - by Mauricio Webtailor

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

  • Vim, how to scroll to bottom of a named buffer

    - by Gavin Black
I have a vim-script which splits output to a new window, using the following command: below split +view foo I've been trying to find a way from an arbitrary buffer to scroll to the bottom of foo, or a setting to keep it defaulted to showing the bottom lines of the buffer. I'm doing most of this inside of a python block of vim script. So I have something like: python << endpython import vim import time import thread import sys def myfunction(string, sleeptime,*args): outpWindow = vim.current.window while 1: outpWindow.buffer.append("BAR") #vim.command("SCROLL TO BOTTOM OF foo") time.sleep(sleeptime) #sleep for a specified amount of time. vim.command('below split +view foo') thread.start_new_thread(myfunction,("Thread No:1",2)) endpython And need to find something to put in for vim.command("SCROLL TO BOTTOM of foo") line

  • XmlSerializer construction with same named extra types

    - by NoizWaves
Hey, I am hitting trouble constructing an XmlSerializer where the extra types contains types with the same Name (but unique Fullname). Below is an example that illustrated my scenario. Type definitions in external assembly I cannot manipulate: public static class Wheel { public enum Status { Stopped, Spinning } } public static class Engine { public enum Status { Idle, Full } } Class I have written and have control over: public class Car { public Wheel.Status WheelStatus; public Engine.Status EngineStatus; public static string Serialize(Car car) { var xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Car), new[] {typeof(Wheel.Status),typeof(Engine.Status)}); var output = new StringBuilder(); using (var sw = new StringWriter(output)) xs.Serialize(sw, car); return output.ToString(); } } The XmlSerializer constructor throws a System.InvalidOperationException with Message "There was an error reflecting type 'Engine.Status'" This exception has an InnerException of type System.InvalidOperationException and with Message "Types 'Wheel.Status' and 'Engine.Status' both use the XML type name, 'Status', from namespace ''. Use XML attributes to specify a unique XML name and/or namespace for the type." Given that I am unable to alter the enum types, how can I construct an XmlSerializer that will serialize Car successfully?

  • Action method expected parameter named Id and nothing otherwise

    - by codingbiz
The Error The parameters dictionary contains a null entry for parameter 'UserId' of non-nullable type 'System.Int64' for method 'System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult Predict(Int64)' in 'sportingbiz.Controllers.PredictionController'. An optional parameter must be a reference type, a nullable type, or be declared as an optional parameter. Parameter name: parameters This does not work. Throws the error mentioned above http://mysite/User/Profile/15 This works http://mysite/User/Profile/?UserID=15 The Controller Action public ActionResult Profile(long UserID) { } When I changed the parameter name to Id it works. I think it's because Id was specified in the route collection (Global.asax). Is it possible to tell MVC that UserId should map to Id without changing it in the Global.asax

  • Extract and replace named group regex

I was able to extract href value of anchors in an html string. Now, what I want to achieve is extract the href value and replace this value with a new GUID. I need to return both the replaced html string and list of extracted href value and it's corresponding GUID. Thanks in advance. My existing code is like: Dim sPattern As String = "<a[^>]*href\s*=\s*((\""(?<URL>[^\""]*)\"")|(\'(?<URL>[^\']*)\')|(?<URL>[^\s]* ))" Dim matches As MatchCollection = Regex.Matches(html, sPattern, RegexOptions.IgnoreCase Or RegexOptions.IgnorePatternWhitespace) If Not IsNothing(matches) AndAlso matches.Count > 0 Then Dim urls As List(Of String) = New List(Of String) For Each m As Match In matches urls.Add(m.Groups("URL").Value) Next End If Sample HTML string: <html><body><a title="http://www.google.com" href="http://www.google.com">http://www.google.com</a><br /><a href="http://www.yahoo.com">http://www.yahoo.com</a><br /><a title="http://www.apple.com" href="http://www.apple.com">Apple</a></body></html>

  • How to iterate over numerically named object properties

    - by Scott Schluer
So I have a horribly designed class that I can't change that has properties like this: object.Color1 object.Color2 object.Color3 etc... How can I iterate through those with a for loop. In other words, something like this: for (int i = 0; i <= 40; i++) { string PropertyName = "Color" + i; if (object.PropertyName != "") { // do something } } Obviously this code wouldn't work but it gives you an idea of what I'm after. I have to do some processing on each property and I don't want to repeat my code 40 times. :) A loop would be perfect, I'm just not sure how to create the name of the property on the fly.

  • managed object subclasses are not generating implementation files and are incorrectly named

    - by mkc842
In Xcode 4.6, I generated plenty of managed object subclass files without any problem. But now that I'm trying to do it in Xcode 5, it generates only a .h file. The header file has the correct properties, but it takes the name of my project, rather than the name of the core data entity I selected. Just to be sure I hadn't forgotten something, I carefully followed these steps . What could be going on? Thanks

  • How to use a scope in combination with a Model method?

    - by Bjorn
Hi all, I'm currently working on some scope filters, and I'd like to have it filter on a method (don't know how to name it otherwise). My code: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base def price_with_discount price-discount.to_f end scope :by_price, lambda {|min, max|{ :conditions => { :price_with_discount => min.to_f..max.to_f }}} end This doesn't work: "No attribute named price_with_discount exists for table products". How can I trick my scope into using the method I defined instead of searching for a column named price_with_discount? Bjorn

  • Using named_scope with counts of child models

    - by Joe Cairns

Is this possible? class Foo < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :bars named_scope :with_no_bars, ... # count of bars == 0 named_scope :with_one_bar, ... # count of bars == 1 named_scope :with_more_than_one_bar, ... # count of bars > 1 end class Bar < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :foo end I'm hoping to do something like Foo.with_one_bar I could write methods on the parent class for something like this, but I'd rather have the power of the named scope

  • How to pipe two CORE::system commands in a cross-platform way

    - by Pedro Silva
I'm writing a System::Wrapper module to abstract away from CORE::system and the qx operator. I have a serial method that attempts to connect command1's output to command2's input. I've made some progress using named pipes, but POSIX::mkfifo is not cross-platform. Here's part of what I have so far (the run method at the bottom basically calls system): package main; my $obj1 = System::Wrapper->new( interpreter => 'perl', arguments => [-pe => q{''}], input => ['input.txt'], description => 'Concatenate input.txt to STDOUT', ); my $obj2 = System::Wrapper->new( interpreter => 'perl', arguments => [-pe => q{'$_ = reverse $_}'}], description => 'Reverse lines of input input', output => { '>' => 'output' }, ); $obj1->serial( $obj2 ); package System::Wrapper; #... sub serial { my ($self, @commands) = @_; eval { require POSIX; POSIX->import(); require threads; }; my $tmp_dir = File::Spec->tmpdir(); my $last = $self; my @threads; push @commands, $self; for my $command (@commands) { croak sprintf "%s::serial: type of args to serial must be '%s', not '%s'", ref $self, ref $self, ref $command || $command unless ref $command eq ref $self; my $named_pipe = File::Spec->catfile( $tmp_dir, int \$command ); POSIX::mkfifo( $named_pipe, 0777 ) or croak sprintf "%s::serial: couldn't create named pipe %s: %s", ref $self, $named_pipe, $!; $last->output( { '>' => $named_pipe } ); $command->input( $named_pipe ); push @threads, threads->new( sub{ $last->run } ); $last = $command; } $_->join for @threads; } #... My specific questions: Is there an alternative to POSIX::mkfifo that is cross-platform? Win32 named pipes don't work, as you can't open those as regular files, neither do sockets, for the same reasons. The above doesn't quite work; the two threads get spawned correctly, but nothing flows across the pipe. I suppose that might have something to do with pipe deadlocking or output buffering. What throws me off is that when I run those two commands in the actual shell, everything works as expected.

  • Strange intermittent SQL connection error, fixes on reboot, comes back after 3-5 days (ASP.NET)

    - by Ryan
For some reason every 3-5 days our web app loses the ability to open a connection to the db with the following error, the strange thing is that all we have to do is reboot the container (it is a VPS) and it is restored to normal functionality. Then a few days later or so it happens again. Has anyone ever had such a problem? I have noticed a lot of ANONYMOUS LOGONs in the security log in the middle of the night from our AD server which is strange, and also some from an IP in Amsterdam. • What does the Excel VBA range.Rows property really do?

    - by RBarryYoung
OK, I am finishing up an add-on project for a legacy Excel-VBA application, and I have once again run up against the conundrum of the mysterious range.Rows(?) and worksheet.Rows properties. Does anyone know what these properties really do and what they are supposed to provide to me? (note: all of this probably applies to the corresponding *.Columns properties also). What I would really like to be able to use it for is to return a range of rows, like this: SET rng = wks.Rows(iStartRow, iEndRow) But I have never been able to get it to do that, even though the Intellisense shows two arguments for it. Instead I have to use one of the two or three other (very kludgy) techniques. The help is very unhelpful (typically so for Office VBA), and googling for "Rows" is not very useful, no matter how many other terms I add to it. The only things that I have been able to use it for are 1) return a single row as a range ( rng.Rows(i) ) and 2) return a count of the rows in a range ( rng.Rows.Count ). Is that it? Is there really nothing else that it's good for? Clarification: I know that it returns a range and that there are other ways to get a range of rows. What I am asking for is specifically what do we get from .Rows() that we do not already get from .Cells() and .Range()? The two things that I know are 1) an easier way to return a range of a single row and 2) a way to count the number of rows in a range. Is there anything else?
