• Where did my Toolbar button go?

  When MyView gets pushed on to the NavigationController, I have the following code public override void ViewDidLoad () { this.NavigationController.Toolbar.SetItems(new UIBarButtonItem[] { new UIBarButtonItem("Next",UIBarButtonItemStyle.Plain, ClickNext) }, true); this.NavigationItem.Title = "Proposal Plan - Step 1"; } The Title gets set properly, and the code runs but in my Toolbar at the bottom of the view I don't have the "Next" button I am expecting. I put a breakpoint and verified that the Toolbar after running that line does have my button, but still nothing. What am I mising?

• Callbacks in Thrift Asynchronous Functions?

  Hi all, In Thrift it is possible to use the oneway modifier to specify a call as asynchronous. Apparently, it's not possible to define a callback, though, to be executed when the execution of the function is completed. It seems that the only possibility I have is to give my Thrift client (PHP) some "server" capabilities, so that, when the heavy computation is completed on the server side, I can send a notification to it. This means that I should have a new .thrift file, with new definitions, new services and all the rest and that I should generate php-server side code with Thrift. Even if this is feasible, it looks like an overkill to me and I'm wondering if there's a more clever way to implement the callback. Looking forward for some feedback from you, guys.

  Having a mental block today, need a hand verifying my logic isn't fubar'ed. Traditionally I would do file i/o similar to this: FileStream fs = null; // So it's visible in the finally block try { fs = File.Open("Foo.txt", FileMode.Open); /// Do Stuff } catch(IOException) { /// Handle Stuff } finally { if (fs != null) fs.Close(); } However, this isn't very elegant. Ideally I'd like to use the using block to dispose of the filestream when I'm done, however I am unsure about the synergy between using and try/catch. This is how i'd like to implement the above: try { using(FileStream fs = File.Open("Foo.txt", FileMode.Open)) { /// Do Stuff } } catch(Exception) { /// Handle Stuff } However, I'm worried that a premature exit (via thrown exception) from within the using block may not allow the using block to complete execution and clean up it's object. Am I just paranoid, or will this actually work the way I intend it to?

I've uploaded all source txt files onto my own server : results folder I got the output from using several bash commands in a "chain" like this: cat run*.txt | grep '^Bank[[:space:]]Balance'| cut -d ':' -f2 | grep -E '\$[0-9]+' I know this is far from the most concise and efficient, but at least it works... As our uni subject now moves onto the Perl part, I'd like to know if there is a way to get the same results in one line? • How should one import large amounts of data for FIT/Fitnesse tests?

  We have a scheduling engine with large amounts of test data to test all the scenarios, so test automation is critical. We're currently hoping to use FIT/Fitnesse. However a single test has quite a large table of test data, so it doesn't fit very well into the mould of "two or three inputs, one or more outputs" that Fitnesse uses in its examples. Hopefully the other functionality of Fitnesse makes it worth using it. I hear that there is a way to initialize an application for a FIT test with an Excel spreadsheet - not the Spreadsheet to Fitness function, mind you - but I haven't been able to find it so far. Once the whole spreadsheet is loaded into the application, and the application does its thing, we plan to compare either a number of output rows, or perhaps just the last row, to see if the test passes. The application is currently pulling test data from a database for manual tests, but writing to a database, then initializing from it, is not preferred because of the performance impact. The application is written in C#.

How do i map this function with JNA: Delphi code: function getData(InData1: PChar; InData2: PChar; Data: TArray16; var OutData1: PChar; var OutData2: PChar): integer; stdcall; with: TArray16 = array[0..15] of char; The int value that is returned can be 0 for Error or 1 for right execution; My suggestion is: Java code: int getData(String inData1, String inData2, byte[] data, byte[] outData1 byte[] outData2); The problem is that the function of the dll returns 0. I also tried other Datatypes, but it hasn't worked jet. I think the problem is that the dll function can't write to the parameters outData1 and outData2. Who can help me?....Thanks!!

• MKMapView within UITableView

  I have a MKMapView within a UITableviewCell and I want to be able to disable scrolling of the table view when the user starts to drag within the map view. My plan had been to override the MKMapView touchesBegan/Moved etc methods and if they were called to then disable scrolling in the parent view. Scrolling in the parent view would be enabled again only when the touches in the MKMapView ended or were cancelled. My problem is that the touchesBegan/Moved methods inside MKMapView are not called - the problem is also discussed here: stackoverflow discussion. My table view is within a tab control, so I don't think I can extend UIWindow the way they describe, as there are several views that could be within the window, depending on which tab is active. How can I access the MKMapView touch events please?

  Hi i read this inspired, i am asking for specific help to achieve a 12 for my current project. i am working in a team of 3-4 on a php project that is based on cakephp. i only have a dedicated server running on linux which i intend to have the website live on. and i have a plan with assembla where i am using its svn repository. that's it. i like to hear a major, impactful step towards answering each point raised by the joel test. by impactful i mean doing just this one thing would raise my project to scoring or close to scoring on that area of the joel test. lets begin: 1) do you have a source control system? I am very proud to say learning how to use svn even though we know nuts about branch/release policies made the biggest impact to our programming lives. and the svn repos is on assembla paid plan. Feel free to add if anyone thinks we can do more in this area. 2) Can you make a build in one step? i think the issue is how do i define as a build? i think we are going to define it as if tomorrow my dedicated server crashed and we found another server from another normal hosting provider and all my team's machines all destroyed, how are we going to get the website up again? my code is in svn on assembla. 1 step means as close to 1 button to push as possible. 3)Do you make daily builds? i know nothing about this. please help. i googled and came across this phpundercontrol. but i am not sure if we can get that to work with assembla. are there easier ways? 4)Do you have a bug database? we have not used the assembla features on bug tracking. ashamed to say. i think i will sort this out myself. 5)Do you fix bugs before writing new code? policy issue. i will sort it out myself. 6)Do you have an up-to-date schedule? Working on it. Same as above. estimates have historically been overly optimistic. having spent too much time using all sorts of funny project management tools, i think this time i am going to use just paper and pen. please dont tell me scrum. i need to keep things even simpler than that. 7)Do you have a spec? Since we have a team of 3, i think i should go get 1 tester. even on a part time basis. so i should get this 1 part time tester test in what manner to extract maximum effects? should i get him to write out the test scenarios and expected outcomes and then test it? or i write the test scenarios and then ask him to do it? we will be writing the test cases ourselves using simpletest. i came across selenium. how useful is that? 11)Do new candidates write code during their interview? Not applicable. But i will do it next time i try to hire anyone else. hires or contractors alike. 12)Do you do hallway usability testing? Will do so on a per month or per milestone basis. i will grab my friends who are not net-savvy. they will be the best testers of this type. Thank you.

  I got a web site using jQuery, jQuery Tools and some handcrafted JS running performing graphical enhancements. While it's running smooth on FF, Safari and Chrome, IE blocks the script execution : There is nothing particularly more dangerous on this code than, let's say, on Netvibes. Why is even talking about activeX ? I'm using JS. And how can I prevent that ? I don't want my user to click on "I allow this website" to work. It would be like putting a big red absolute DIV reading "Live quick and never come back".

  We have been using InRule for our Rule needs we have found that it does not scale well and so are investigating the Windows Work Flow. Within InRule we could configure pretty much have any task for example our sql scripts and stored procedures where all part of a separate rule config file, I am wondering if there is a similar functionality within windows work flow where I could just call a declarative task and pass it a bunch of parameters – This task should contain the sql script I would be executing , we should be able to change the script at runtime without recompilation to the WF code. Is this possible in Windows Work flow – How can I accomplish this within work flow. Additionally for sql execution within Work Flow, how does it get the connection string. Should it be passed from the calling program – is passing it as input parameter from the Calling app via the Dictionary object the best way or can the work flow code have visibility to my calling program app.config and get the connection string ?

• What can cause throughput to become really slow when an ISAPI filter implements SF_NOTIFY_SEND_RAW_D

  I have an ISAPI filter for IIS6 that I've been developing for a while, but I just noticed something disturbing. Anytime I have the filter installed and I download a file, the file download becomes really slow. From a remote machine I'm getting ~120kb per second without the filter installed, and ~45kb per second with the filter installed. This seems to be related to the SF_NOTIFY_SEND_RAW_DATA callback. Whenever I register for this callback, I get the slow downloads, when I don't register for it, everything is fine. Even if I make my HttpFilterProc function just return immediately, like this: DWORD WINAPI HttpFilterProc( PHTTP_FILTER_CONTEXT pfc, DWORD notificationType, LPVOID pvNotification ) { return SF_STATUS_REQ_NEXT_NOTIFICATION; } I've also tried returning SF_STATUS_REQ_HANDLED_NOTIFICATION with the same result. Is it possible that I have some build setting on my DLL that is causing a slow execution of the callback function, or is this just the way it's going to be with ISAPI?

  I have an HttpHandler class (implements IHttphandler) where the path defined for the handler in web.config is *.jpg. I am requesting a Jpg image in my page. Within the HTTP Handler I am writing to a file in the filesystem. By mistake I was trying to write to a non existant directory. This should have thrown an exception but the execution simply proceeds.Ofcourse no file is writte. But if I give a proper directory the file is written correctly.Is there anything special about HttpHandler Exceptions. • SQL Server Reporting Services - Fast TimeDataRetrieval - Long TimeProcessing

  An application that I support has recently begun experiencing extended periods of time required to execute a report in SQL Server Reporting Services. The reports that are being executed are not terribly complex. There are multiple stored procedures (between 5 and 8) which return anywhere from a handful to 8000 records total. Reports are generally from 2 to 100 pages. One can argue (and I have) the benefit of a 100 page report, but the client is footing the bill. At any rate, the problem is that even the reports with 500 records (11 pages) being returned takes 5 minutes to return to the browser. In the execution log the TimeDataRetrieval is 60 seconds, but the TimeProcessing is 235 seconds. It seems bizarre to me that my query runs so quickly, but it takes Reporting Services so long to process the data. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Bernie

  Hi I have a string that must fit into a box, and must be at most 3 lines long. To shorten it, I plan to truncate it and end it with '...'. I could shorten it to a certain # of characters but if i make it look good with "wwwwwwwww [...] wwww" it won't look right with "iiiiiiiiiii [...] iiii". Is there some way I can shorten it by how much space the string would take up, as opposed to how many characters there are in a string without using a fixed-width font? Mala ps. Please no "simply create an image of '...' and overlay it over the end of the line" hacks or similar - I actually want to shorten the string to the appropriate length

  we have a setup developed in installshield vr 6.3. it is a self extractable single setup. it work fine in most on most of the Windows version but on Windows server 2003 64bit in Execution mode when doing RD it return user windows directory against WINDIR i.e. c:\documents & settings\fcuser\windows instead of C:\Windows. According to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=186499 it should work fine when i change the compatibility bit of Setup but it didn't. i tried changing compatibility bit of these key too (INSTRUN, SETUP and SETUP1 ) but it didn't work either. but when i when i run the setup within the self extractable by extracting it work fine.

  I am trying to generate a RTF document by hand and eventually will do it programtically. I plan to improve pyRTF so that it can generate "Table of contents", which I think it can't. I am not able to use RTF controls words (\tc, \tcf and \tcl.) to generate a TOC. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa140283(office.10).aspx gives details about TOC but I couldn't find or make any example RTF which have a TOC. So is there a simple sample showing a RTF with TOC?

  Hey, I've been building a silverlight application and a WCF service for a while now and recently tried to host them in IIS7. I installed IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and added these two application to my default website. I am having a number of problems so im hoping one of you can help out... 1) The silverlight and WCF service applications do not work with pass-through authentication. I need to "connect as" the administrator server account when setting up the application. I read online that you should only need to use the "connect as" field when you are connecting to another computer. If i dont supply the admin credentials i get this error. Do i have to set up permissions somewhere else? HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. • What is the fastest way to create a checksum for large files in C#

  Hi, I have to sync large files across some machines. The files can be up to 6GB in size. The sync will be done manually every few weeks. I cant take the filename into consideration because they can change anytime. My plan is to create checksums on the destination PC and on the source PC and than copy all files with a checksum, which are not already in the destination, to the destination. • How can I update information in an Android Activity from a background Service

  Hello, I am trying to create a simple Android application that has a ActivityList of information, when the application starts, I plan to start a Service that will be constantly calculating the data (it will be changing) and I want the ActivityList to be in sync with the data that the service is calculating for the life of the app. How can I set up my Activity to be listening to the Service? Is this the best way to approach this problem? For example, if you imagine a list of stock prices - the data would be being changed regularly and need to be in sync with the (in my case) Service that is calculating/fetching the data constantly. • How do you debug a unit test in Xcode 3?

  I followed Apple's instructions to set up Unit Testing in my project. I followed the directions for making them dependent, so the tests run with every build of my main project. This works, and when my tests pass the application runs; when they don't, I get build errors on the lines of the unit tests that failed. I would like, however, to be able to step through my application code when the tests are failing, but can't get Xcode (3.2.5) configured properly. The project is a Mac project, not iOS. I tried the instructions here and here, but execution never stopped at the breakpoints I set, neither in the the unit test code or in my application code. After following the first set of instructions, the breakpoints I set turned yellow with blue outlines, and I don't know what that meant, either. What do I need to do to step through my tests?
