  • Execute external program from Java

    - by Saurabh Lalwani
    Hi, I am trying to execute a program from the Java code. Here is my code: public static void main(String argv[]) { try { String line; Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "/bin/bash -c ls > OutputFileNames.txt"); BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream())); while ((line = input.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println(line); } input.close(); } catch (Exception err) { err.printStackTrace(); } } My OS is Mac OS X 10.6. If I remove the "> OutputFileNames.txt" from the getRuntime().exec() method, all the file names are printed on the console just fine. But I need it to be printed to a file. Also, if I change the command to: Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "cmd \c dir > OutputFileNames.txt"); and run it on Windows, it runs and prints the results in the file perfectly fine too. I have read the other posts for executing another application from Java but none seemed to relate to my problem. I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks,

  • Java JRE vs GCJ

    - by Martijn Courteaux
    Hi, I have this results from a speed test I wrote in Java: Java real 0m20.626s user 0m20.257s sys 0m0.244s GCJ real 3m10.567s user 3m5.168s sys 0m0.676s So, what is the but of GCJ then? With this results I'm sure I'm not going to compile it with GCJ! I tested this on Linux, are the results in Windows maybe better than that? This was the code from the application: public static void main(String[] args) { String str = ""; System.out.println("Start!!!"); for (long i = 0; i < 5000000L; i++) { Math.sqrt((double) i); Math.pow((double) i, 2.56); long j = i * 745L; String string = new String(String.valueOf(i)); string = string.concat(" kaka pipi"); // "Kaka pipi" is a kind of childly call in Dutch. string = new String(string.toUpperCase()); if (i % 300 == 0) { str = ""; } else { str += Long.toHexString(i); } } System.out.println("Stop!!!"); }

  • Read large amount of data from file in Java

    - by Crozin
    Hello I've got text file that contains 1 000 002 numbers in following formation: 123 456 1 2 3 4 5 6 .... 999999 100000 Now I need to read that data and allocate it to int variables (the very first two numbers) and all the rest (1 000 000 numbers) to an array int[]. It's not a hard task, but - it's horrible slow. My first attempt was java.util.Scanner: Scanner stdin = new Scanner(new File("./path")); int n = stdin.nextInt(); int t = stdin.nextInt(); int array[] = new array[n]; for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) { array[i] = stdin.nextInt(); } It works as excepted but it takes about 7500 ms to execute. I need to fetch that data in up to several hundred of milliseconds. Then I tried java.io.BufferedReader: Using BufferedReader.readLine() and String.split() I got the same results in about 1700 ms, but it's still too many. How can I read that amount of data in less that 1 second? The final result should be equal to: int n = 123; int t = 456; int array[] = { 1, 2, 3, 4, ..., 999999, 100000 };

  • Referencing java resource files for cold fusion

    - by Chimeara
    I am using a .Jar file containing a .properties file in my CF code, however it seems unable to find the .properties file when run from CF. My java code is: String key =""; String value =""; try { File file = new File("src/test.properties"); FileInputStream fileInput = new FileInputStream(file); Properties properties = new Properties(); properties.load(fileInput); fileInput.close(); Enumeration enuKeys = properties.keys(); while (enuKeys.hasMoreElements()) { key = (String) enuKeys.nextElement(); value = properties.getProperty(key); //System.out.println(key + ": " + value); } } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { e.printStackTrace(); key ="error"; } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); key ="error"; } return(key + ": " + value); I have my test.properties file in the project src folder, and make sure it is selected when compiling, when run from eclipse it gives the expected key and value, however when run from CF I get the caught errors. My CF code is simply: propTest = CreateObject("java","package.class"); testResults = propTest.main2(); Is there a special way to reference the .properties file so CF can access it, or do I need to include the file outside the .jar somewhere?

  • Java if/else behaving strangely

    - by Alex
    I'm a real newbie to java, so please excuse me if this is a hopelessly straightforward problem. I have the following from my java game server: // Get input from the client DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream (server.getInputStream()); PrintStream out = new PrintStream(server.getOutputStream()); disconnect=false; while((line = in.readLine().trim()) != null && !line.equals(".") && !line.equals("") && !disconnect) { System.out.println("Received "+line); if(line.equals("h")){ out.println("h"+EOF); // Client handshake System.out.println("Matched 1"); }else if (line.equals("<policy-file-request/>")) { out.println("..."+EOF); // Policy file System.out.println(server.getInetAddress()+": Policy Request"); disconnect=true; System.out.println("Matched 2"); }else if(line.substring(0,3).equals("GET")||line.substring(0,4).equals("POST")){ out.println("HTTP/1.0 200 OK\nServer: VirtuaRoom v0.9\nContent-Type: text/html\n\n..."); // HTML status page disconnect=true; System.out.println("Matched 3"); } else { System.out.println(server.getInetAddress()+": Unknown command, client disconnected."); disconnect=true; System.out.println("Matched else"); } } server.close(); First of all, the client sends an "h" packet, and expects the same back (handshake). However, I want it to disconnect the client when an unrecognised packet is received. For some reason, it responds fine to the handshake and HTML status request, but the else clause is never executed when there's an unknown packet. Thanks

  • Why aren't Java's generics implicitly polymorphic?

    - by froadie
    I'm a bit confused about how Java generics handle inheritance / polymorphism. Assume the following hierarchy - Animal (Parent) Dog - Cat (Children) So suppose I have a method doSomething(List<Animal> animals). By all the rules of inheritance and polymorphism, I would assume that a List<Dog> is a List<Animal> and a List<Cat> is a List<Animal> - and so either one could be passed to this method. Not so. If I want to achieve this behavior, I have to explicitly tell the method to accept a list of any subset of Animal by saying doSomething(List<? extends Animal> animals). I understand that this is Java's behavior. My question is why? Why is polymorphism generally implicit, but when it comes to generics it must be specified?

  • How to send java.util.logging to log4j?

    - by matt b
    I have an existing application which does all of its logging against log4j. We use a number of other libraries that either also use log4j, or log against Commons Logging, which ends up using log4j under the covers in our environment. One of our dependencies even logs against slf4j, which also works fine since it eventually delegates to log4j as well. Now, I'd like to add ehcache to this application for some caching needs. Previous versions of ehcache used commons-logging, which would have worked perfectly in this scenario, but as of version 1.6-beta1 they have removed the dependency on commons-logging and replaced it with java.util.logging instead. Not really being familiar with the built-in JDK logging available with java.util.logging, is there an easy way to have any log messages sent to JUL logged against log4j, so I can use my existing configuration and set up for any logging coming from ehcache? Looking at the javadocs for JUL, it looks like I could set up a bunch of environment variables to change which LogManager implementation is used, and perhaps use that to wrap log4j Loggers in the JUL Logger class. Is this the correct approach? Kind of ironic that a library's use of built-in JDK logging would cause such a headache when (most of) the rest of the world is using 3rd party libraries instead.

  • Why Is Java Missing Access Specifiers?

    - by Tom Tresansky
    Does anyone understand why Java is missing: An access specifier which allows access by the class and all subclasses, but NOT by other classes in the same package? (Protected-minus) An access specifier which allows access by the class, all classes in the same package, AND all classes in any sub-package? (Default-plus) An access specifier which adds classes in sub-packages to the entities currently allowed access by protected? (Protected-plus) I wish I had more choices than protected and default. In particular, I'm interested in the Protected-plus option. Say I want to use a Builder/Factory patterned class to produce an object with many links to other objects. The constructors on the objects are all default, because I want to force you to use the factory class to produce instances, in order to make sure the linking is done correctly. I want to group the factories in a sub-package to keep them all together and distinct from the objects they are instantiating---this just seems like a cleaner package structure to me. No can do, currently. I have to put the builders in the same package as the objects they are constructing, in order to gain the access to defaults. But separating project.area.objects from project.area.objects.builders would be so nice. So why is Java lacking these options? And, is there anyway to fake it?

  • need help with some basic java.

    - by Racket
    Hi, I'm doing the first chapter exercises on my Java book and I have been stuck for a problem for a while now. I'll print the question, prompt/read a double value representing a monetary amount. Then determine the fewest number of each bill and coin needed to represent that amount, starting with the highest (assume that a ten dollar bill is the maximum size needed). For example, if the value entered is 47,63 (forty-seven dollars and sixty-three cents), and the program should print the equivalent amount as: 4 ten dollar bills 1 five dollar bills 2 one dollar bills 2 quarters 1 dimes 0 nickels 3 pennies" etc. I'm doing an example exactly as they said in order to get an idea, as you will see in the code. Nevertheless, I managed to print 4 dollars, and I can't figure out how to get "1 five dollar", only 7 dollars (see code). Please, don't do the whole code for me. I just need some advice in regards to what I said. Thank you. import java.util.Scanner; public class PP29 { public static void main (String[] args) { Scanner sc = new Scanner (System.in); int amount; double value; double test1; double quarter; System.out.println("Enter \"double\" value: "); value = sc.nextDouble(); amount = (int) value / 10; // 47,63 / 10 = 4. int amount2 = (int) value % 10; // 47 - 40 = 7 quarter = value * 100; // 47,63 * 100 = 4736 int sum = (int) quarter % 100; // 4763 / 100 => 4763-4700 = 63. System.out.println(amount); System.out.println(amount2); } }

    hi friends, I have text file with list of alphabets and numbers. I want to do sorting w.r.t this number using java. My text file looks like this: a---12347 g---65784 r---675 I read the text file and i split it now. But i dont know how to perform sorting . I am new to java. Please give me a idea. My output want to be g---65784 a---12347 r---675 Plese help me. Thanks in advance. My coding is String str = ""; BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("counts.txt")); while ((str = br.readLine()) != null) { String[] get = str.split("----"); When i search the internet all suggest in the type of arrays. I tried. But no use.How to inlude the get[1] into array. int arr[]=new int[50] arr[i]=get[1]; for(int i=0;i<50000;i++){ for(int j=i+1;j<60000;j++){ if(arr[i]arr[j]){ System.out.println(arr[i]); } }

  • Java Socket Closes After Connection?

    - by Matthew
    Why does this port/socket close once a connection has been made by a client? package app; import java.io.*; import java.net.*; public class socketServer { public static void main(String[] args) { int port = 3333; boolean socketBindedToPort = false; try { ServerSocket ServerSocketPort = new ServerSocket(port); System.out.println("SocketServer Set Up on Port: " + port); socketBindedToPort = true; if(socketBindedToPort == true) { Socket clientSocket = null; try { clientSocket = ServerSocketPort.accept();//This method blocks until a socket connection has been made to this port. • Avoiding instanceof in Java

    - by Mark Lutton
    Having a chain of "instanceof" operations is considered a "code smell". The standard answer is "use polymorphism". How would I do it in this case? There are a number of subclasses of a base class; none of them are under my control. An analogous situation would be with the Java classes Integer, Double, BigDecimal etc. if (obj instanceof Integer) {NumberStuff.handle((Integer)obj);} else if (obj instanceof BigDecimal) {BigDecimalStuff.handle((BigDecimal)obj);} else if (obj instanceof Double) {DoubleStuff.handle((Double)obj);} I do have control over NumberStuff and so on. I don't want to use many lines of code where a few lines would do. (Sometimes I make a HashMap mapping Integer.class to an instance of IntegerStuff, BigDecimal.class to an instance of BigDecimalStuff etc. But today I want something simpler.) I'd like something as simple as this: public static handle(Integer num) { ... } public static handle(BigDecimal num) { ... } But Java just doesn't work that way. I'd like to use static methods when formatting. The things I'm formatting are composite, where a Thing1 can contain an array Thing2s and a Thing2 can contain an array of Thing1s. I had a problem when I implemented my formatters like this: class Thing1Formatter { private static Thing2Formatter thing2Formatter = new Thing2Formatter(); public format(Thing thing) { thing2Formatter.format(thing.innerThing2); } } class Thing2Formatter { private static Thing1Formatter thing1Formatter = new Thing1Formatter(); public format(Thing2 thing) { thing1Formatter.format(thing.innerThing1); } } Yes, I know the HashMap and a bit more code can fix that too. But the "instanceof" seems so readable and maintainable by comparison. Is there anything simple but not smelly?

  • Dont understand the concept of extends in URL.openConnection() in JAVA

    - by user1722361
    Hi I am trying to learn JAVA deeply and so I am digging into the JDK source code in the following lines: URL url = new URL("http://www.google.com"); URLConnection tmpConn = url.openConnection(); I attached the source code and set the breakpoint at the second line and stepped into the code. I can see the code flow is: URL.openConnection() - sun.net.www.protocol.http.Handler.openConnection() I have two questions about this First In URL.openConnection() the code is: public URLConnection openConnection() throws java.io.IOException { return handler.openConnection(this); } handler is an object of URLStreamHandler, define as blow transient URLStreamHandler handler; But URLStreamHandler is a abstract class and method openConnection() is not implement in it so when handler calls this method, it should go to find a subclass who implement this method, right? But there are a lot classes who implement this methods in sun.net.www.protocol (like http.Hanlder, ftp.Handler ) How should the code know which "openConnection" method it should call? In this example, this handler.openConnection() will go into http.Handler and it is correct. (if I set the url as ftp://www.google.com, it will go into ftp.Handler) I cannot understand the mechanism. second. I have attached the source code so I can step into the JDK and see the variables but for many classes like sun.net.www.protocol.http.Handler, there are not source code in src.zip. I googled this class and there is source code online I can get but why they did not put it (and many other classes) in the src.zip? Where can I find a comprehensive version of source code? Thanks!

  • Eclipc java,writting a program [closed]

    - by ghassar
    I have an important exercise for that i found in the internet please i need help in using eclipc java thanks i have to design, implement, test and document a Java program (a set of classes) for one of the following problem specifications: Problem 1 – Jubilee Estate Agency Property Management System A local Estate Agent would like a prototype system to keep track of properties that are offered for sale. The Estate Agent sells domestic and commercial properties. You will need to define classes that represent the Estate Agency System. You should design your system and the classes that you will need before starting coding. Your system must have a graphical user interface and be designed and developed using the object-oriented principles of the MVC architecture design pattern i.e. the user interface class must be separate from the other classes. The initial basic requirements for the system are as follows: • Include a list of domestic properties for sale that include details of: address, description, selling price, and number of rooms • Include a list of commercial properties for sale that include details of: address, description, selling price, and area in square metres • Enable the properties that are for sale to be viewed on the screen • Allow the customer to select one or more properties to be placed on a ‘viewing list’ so that the properties can be visited in person • Display on the screen the viewing list that shows the details of the properties chosen • Provide a basic search facility to find properties that are for sale in a particular price band and display the results • Enable a property to be marked as sold

  • Java Daemon Threading with JNI

    - by gwin003
    I have a Java applet that creates a new non-daemon thread like so: Thread childThread = new Thread(new MyRunnable(_this)); childThread.setDaemon(false); childThread.start(); Then my MyRunnable object calls a native method that is implemented in C++: @Override public void run() { while (true) { if (!ran) { System.out.println("isDaemon: " + Thread.currentThread().isDaemon()); _applet.invokePrintManager(_applet.fFormType, _applet.fFormName, _applet.fPrintImmediately, _applet.fDataSet); ran = true; } } } This C++ method calls into a C# DLL that shows a form. My problem is, whenever the user navigates away from the page with a Java applet on it, JVM (and my C# form) is killed. I need the form and JVM to remain open until it is closed by the user. I tried setting my thread to be a non-daemon thread, which is working because System.out.println("isDaemon: " + Thread.currentThread().isDaemon() prints isDaemon: false. Is there something related to the way that the C# form is created (is there another thread I'm not accounting for) or something I am overlooking?? My thread is not a daemon thread, but the JVM is being killed anyways.

The Double GPA = TotalGrade / ToutalHours; line is coming up with the Incompatible Types error. Also I'm supposed to include the DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("#0.00”);line at the beginning of the main but its not working. Anything is very helpful. Thanks

  • Java Cloud Service Integration using Web Service Data Control

    - by Jani Rautiainen
    Java Cloud Service (JCS) provides a platform to develop and deploy business applications in the cloud. In Fusion Applications Cloud deployments customers do not have the option to deploy custom applications developed with JDeveloper to ensure the integrity and supportability of the hosted application service. Instead the custom applications can be deployed to the JCS and integrated to the Fusion Application Cloud instance.This series of articles will go through the features of JCS, provide end-to-end examples on how to develop and deploy applications on JCS and how to integrate them with the Fusion Applications instance.In this article a custom application integrating with Fusion Application using Web Service Data Control will be implemented. v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";} Pre-requisites Access to Cloud instance In order to deploy the application access to a JCS instance is needed, a free trial JCS instance can be obtained from Oracle Cloud site. To register you will need a credit card even if the credit card will not be charged. To register simply click "Try it" and choose the "Java" option. The confirmation email will contain the connection details. See this video for example of the registration. Once the request is processed you will be assigned 2 service instances; Java and Database. Applications deployed to the JCS must use Oracle Database Cloud Service as their underlying database. So when JCS instance is created a database instance is associated with it using a JDBC data source. The cloud services can be monitored and managed through the web UI. For details refer to Getting Started with Oracle Cloud. JDeveloper JDeveloper contains Cloud specific features related to e.g. connection and deployment. To use these features download the JDeveloper from JDeveloper download site by clicking the “Download JDeveloper 11.1.1.7.1 for ADF deployment on Oracle Cloud” link, this version of JDeveloper will have the JCS integration features that will be used in this article. For versions that do not include the Cloud integration features the Oracle Java Cloud Service SDK or the JCS Java Console can be used for deployment. For details on installing and configuring the JDeveloper refer to the installation guide. For details on SDK refer to Using the Command-Line Interface to Monitor Oracle Java Cloud Service and Using the Command-Line Interface to Manage Oracle Java Cloud Service. Create Application In this example the “JcsWsDemo” application created in the “Java Cloud Service Integration using Web Service Proxy” article is used as the base. Create Web Service Data Control In this example we will use a Web Service Data Control to integrate with Credit Rule Service in Fusion Applications. The data control will be used to query data from Fusion Applications using a web service call and present the data in a table. To generate the data control choose the “Model” project and navigate to "New -> All Technologies -> Business Tier -> Data Controls -> Web Service Data Control" and enter following: Name: CreditRuleServiceDC URL: https://ic-[POD].oracleoutsourcing.com/icCnSetupCreditRulesPublicService/CreditRuleService?WSDL Service: {{http://xmlns.oracle.com/apps/incentiveCompensation/cn/creditSetup/creditRule/creditRuleService/}CreditRuleService On step 2 select the “findRule” operation: Skip step 3 and on step 4 define the credentials to access the service. Do note that in this example these credentials are only used if testing locally, for JCS deployment credentials need to be manually updated on the EAR file: Click “Finish” and the proxy generation is done. Creating UI In order to use the data control we will need to populate complex objects FindCriteria and FindControl. For simplicity in this example we will create logic in a managed bean that populates the objects. Open “JcsWsDemoBean.java” and add the following logic: Map findCriteria; Map findControl; public void setFindCriteria(Map findCriteria) { this.findCriteria = findCriteria; } public Map getFindCriteria() { findCriteria = new HashMap(); findCriteria.put("fetchSize",10); findCriteria.put("fetchStart",0); return findCriteria; } public void setFindControl(Map findControl) { this.findControl = findControl; } public Map getFindControl() { findControl = new HashMap(); return findControl; } Open “JcsWsDemo.jspx”, navigate to “Data Controls -> CreditRuleServiceDC -> findRule(Object, Object) -> result” and drag and drop the “result” node into the “af:form” element in the page: On the “Edit Table Columns” remove all columns except “RuleId” and “Name”: On the “Edit Action Binding” window displayed enter reference to the java class created above by selecting “#{JcsWsDemoBean.findCriteria}”: Also define the value for the “findControl” by selecting “#{JcsWsDemoBean.findControl}”. Deploy to JCS For WS DC the authentication details need to be updated on the connection details before deploying. Open “connections.xml” by navigating “Application Resources -> Descriptors -> ADF META-INF -> connections.xml”: Change the user name and password entry from: <soap username="transportUserName" password="transportPassword" To match the access details for the target environment. Follow the same steps as documented in previous article ”Java Cloud Service ADF Web Application”. • Techniques for modeling a dynamic dataflow with Java concurrency API

    - by Maian
    Is there an elegant way to model a dynamic dataflow in Java? By dataflow, I mean there are various types of tasks, and these tasks can be "connected" arbitrarily, such that when a task finishes, successor tasks are executed in parallel using the finished tasks output as input, or when multiple tasks finish, their output is aggregated in a successor task (see flow-based programming). By dynamic, I mean that the type and number of successors tasks when a task finishes depends on the output of that finished task, so for example, task A may spawn task B if it has a certain output, but may spawn task C if has a different output. Another way of putting it is that each task (or set of tasks) is responsible for determining what the next tasks are. Sample dataflow for rendering a webpage: I have as task types: file downloader, HTML/CSS renderer, HTML parser/DOM builder, image renderer, JavaScript parser, JavaScript interpreter. File downloader task for HTML file HTML parser/DOM builder task File downloader task for each embedded file/link If image, image renderer If external JavaScript, JavaScript parser JavaScript interpreter Otherwise, just store in some var/field in HTML parser task JavaScript parser for each embedded script JavaScript interpreter Wait for above tasks to finish, then HTML/CSS renderer (obviously not optimal or perfectly correct, but this is simple) I'm not saying the solution needs to be some comprehensive framework (in fact, the closer to the JDK API, the better), and I absolutely don't want something as heavyweight is say Spring Web Flow or some declarative markup or other DSL. To be more specific, I'm trying to think of a good way to model this in Java with Callables, Executors, ExecutorCompletionServices, and perhaps various synchronizer classes (like Semaphore or CountDownLatch). There are a couple use cases and requirements: Don't make any assumptions on what executor(s) the tasks will run on. In fact, to simplify, just assume there's only one executor. It can be a fixed thread pool executor, so a naive implementation can result in deadlocks (e.g. imagine a task that submits another task and then blocks until that subtask is finished, and now imagine several of these tasks using up all the threads). To simplify, assume that the data is not streamed between tasks (task output-succeeding task input) - the finishing task and succeeding task won't exist together, so the input data to the succeeding task will not be changed by the preceeding task (since it's already done). There are only a couple operations that the dataflow "engine" should be able to handle: A mechanism where a task can queue more tasks A mechanism whereby a successor task is not queued until all the required input tasks are finished A mechanism whereby the main thread (or other threads not managed by the executor) blocks until the flow is finished A mechanism whereby the main thread (or other threads not managed by the executor) blocks until certain tasks have finished Since the dataflow is dynamic (depends on input/state of the task), the activation of these mechanisms should occur within the task code, e.g. the code in a Callable is itself responsible for queueing more Callables. The dataflow "internals" should not be exposed to the tasks (Callables) themselves - only the operations listed above should be available to the task. Note that the type of the data is not necessarily the same for all tasks, e.g. a file download task may accept a File as input but will output a String. If a task throws an uncaught exception (indicating some fatal error requiring all dataflow processing to stop), it must propagate up to the thread that initiated the dataflow as quickly as possible and cancel all tasks (or something fancier like a fatal error handler). Tasks should be launched as soon as possible. This along with the previous requirement should preclude simple Future polling + Thread.sleep(). As a bonus, I would like to dataflow engine itself to perform some action (like logging) every time task is finished or when no has finished in X time since last task has finished. Something like: ExecutorCompletionService<T> ecs; while (hasTasks()) { Future<T> future = ecs.poll(1 minute); some_action_like_logging(); if (future != null) { future.get() ... } ... } Are there straightforward ways to do all this with Java concurrency API? Or if it's going to complex no matter what with what's available in the JDK, is there a lightweight library that satisfies the requirements? I already have a partial solution that fits my particular use case (it cheats in a way, since I'm using two executors, and just so you know, it's not related at all to the web browser example I gave above), but I'd like to see a more general purpose and elegant solution.

  • Gson Deserialize to Java Tree

    - by MountainX
    I need to deserialize some JSON to a Java tree structure that contains TreeNodes and NodeData. TreeNodes are thin wrappers around NodeData. I'll provide the JSON and the classes below. I have looked at the usual Gson help sources, including here, but I can't seem to come up with the solution. Serialization works fine with Gson. The JSON below was produced by Gson. But deserialization is the problem I need help with. Can someone show me how to write the deserializer (or suggest an alternative approach using Gson best practices)? Here is my JSON. The "data" element corresponds to class NodeData, and the "subList" JSON element corresponds to Java class TreeNode. { "data": { "version": "032", "name": "root", "path": "/", "id": "1", "parentId": "0", "toolTipText": "rootNode" }, "subList": [ { "data": { "version": "032", "name": "level1", "labelText": "Some Label Text at Level1", "path": "/root", "id": "2", "parentId": "1", "toolTipText": "a tool tip for level1" }, "subList": [ { "data": { "version": "032", "name": "level1_1", "labelText": "Label level1_1", "path": "/root/level1", "id": "3", "parentId": "2", "toolTipText": "ToolTipText for level1_1" } }, { "data": { "version": "032", "name": "level1_2", "labelText": "Label level1_2", "path": "/root/level1", "id": "4", "parentId": "2", "toolTipText": "ToolTipText for level1_2" } } ] }, { "data": { "version": "032", "name": "level2", "path": "/root", "id": "5", "parentId": "1", "toolTipText": "ToolTipText for level2" }, "subList": [ { "data": { "version": "032", "name": "level2_1", "labelText": "Label level2_1", "path": "/root/level2", "id": "6", "parentId": "5", "toolTipText": "ToolTipText for level2_1" }, "subList": [ { "data": { "version": "032", "name": "level2_1_1", "labelText": "Label level2_1_1", "path": "/root/level2/level2_1", "id": "7", "parentId": "6", "toolTipText": "ToolTipText for level2_1_1" } } ] } ] } ] } Here are the Java classes: public class Tree { private TreeNode rootElement; private HashMap<String, TreeNode> indexById; private HashMap<String, TreeNode> indexByKey; private long nextAvailableID = 0; public Tree() { indexById = new HashMap<String, TreeNode>(); indexByKey = new HashMap<String, TreeNode>(); } public long getNextAvailableID() { return this.nextAvailableID; } ... [snip] ... } public class TreeNode { private Tree tree; private NodeData data; public List<TreeNode> subList; private HashMap<String, TreeNode> indexById; private HashMap<String, TreeNode> indexByKey; //this default ctor is used only for Gson deserialization public TreeNode() { this.tree = new Tree(); indexById = tree.getIdIndex(); indexByKey = tree.getKeyIndex(); this.makeRoot(); tree.setRootElement(this); } //makes this node the root node. Calling this obviously has side effects. public NodeData makeRoot() { NodeData rootProp = new NodeData(TreeFactory.version, "example", "rootNode"); String nextAvailableID = getNextAvailableID(); if (!nextAvailableID.equals("1")) { throw new IllegalStateException(); } rootProp.setId(nextAvailableID); rootProp.setParentId("0"); rootProp.setKeyPathOnly("/"); rootProp.setSchema(tree); this.data = rootProp; rootProp.setNode(this); indexById.put(rootProp.getId(), this); indexByKey.put(rootProp.getKeyFullName(), this); return rootProp; } ... [snip] ... } public class NodeData { protected static Tree tree; private LinkedHashMap<String, String> keyValMap; protected String version; protected String name; protected String labelText; protected String path; protected String id; protected String parentId; protected TreeNode node; protected String toolTipText;//tool tip or help string protected String imagePath;//for things like images; not persisted to properties protected static final String delimiter = "/"; //this default ctor is used only for Gson deserialization public NodeData() { this("NOT_SET", "NOT_SET", "NOT_SET"); } ... [snip] ... } Side note: The tree data structure is a bit strange, as it includes indexes. Obviously, this isn't a typical search tree. In fact, the tree is used mainly to create a hierarchical path element (String) in each NodeData element. (Example: "path": "/root/level2/level2_1".) The indexes are actually used for NodeData retrieval.

Any help will be appreciated. abc.xsd <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xn="project-xml-r4j_another.xsd"> <xsd:import namespace="project-xml-r4j_another.xsd"/> <xsd:element name="abc" type="abc"> </xsd:element> <xsd:complexType name="abc"> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element name="test" type="test" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1"> </xsd:element> <!--<xsd:element name="proj" type="xn:proj"/>--> </xsd:sequence> <xsd:attribute name="id" type="xsd:ID" use="required"/> </xsd:complexType> <xsd:complexType name="test"> <xsd:attribute name="id" type="xsd:ID" use="required"></xsd:attribute> <xsd:attribute name="value" use="required"> <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string"> <xsd:maxLength value="100" /> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> </xsd:attribute> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:schema> project-xml-r4j_another.xsd <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="project-xml-r4j_another.xsd" xmlns="project-xml-r4j_another.xsd" elementFormDefault="qualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified"> <xsd:element name="proj" type="proj"> <xsd:annotation> <xsd:documentation> The project is the root tag of a project-xml. </xsd:documentation> </xsd:annotation> </xsd:element> <xsd:complexType name="proj"> <xsd:attribute name="id" type="xsd:ID" use="required"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:schema> Test case package test; import java.io.File; import java.io.IOException; import javax.xml.XMLConstants; import javax.xml.transform.Source; import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource; import javax.xml.validation.Schema; import javax.xml.validation.SchemaFactory; import javax.xml.validation.Validator; import org.apache.log4j.Logger; import org.junit.Test; import org.xml.sax.SAXException; import org.xml.sax.SAXParseException; import org.xml.sax.helpers.DefaultHandler; import com.ericsson.ccrtool.core.project.projectxml.InvalidProjectXmlException; public class TestSchema { private static final Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(TestSchema.class); static final String W3C_XML_SCHEMA = XMLConstants.W3C_XML_SCHEMA_NS_URI; @Test public void test() { System.out.println("TestSchema.test()"); try { SchemaFactory schemaFactory = SchemaFactory.newInstance(W3C_XML_SCHEMA); // create a grammar object.
