  i am trying to replace all the special characters including white space, hyphen, etc, to underscore, from a string variable in tcl. I wrote the code below but it doesn't seem to be working. set varname $origVar puts "Variable Name :>> $varname" if {$varname != ""} { regsub -all {[\s-\]\[$^?+*()|\\%&#]} $varname "_" $newVar } puts "New Variable :>> $newVar" one issue is that, instead of replacing the string in $varname, it is replacing the data inside $origVar. No idea why, and also i read the example code (for proper syntax) in my tcl book and according to that it should be something like this regsub -all {[\s-][$^?+*()|\\%&#]} $varname "_" newVar so i used the same syntax but it didn't work and gave the same result as modifying the $origVar instead of required $varname value.

• Best way to handle enable/disable of UIButtons on iPhone

  I have an increase button and a decrease button, both of which affect a variable. The variable has a minimum and the decrease button will be disabled once that minimum is reached. Likewise for the maximum value of the variable. In my controller, I have two IBActions for both the increase and decrease actions, and two IBOutlets, in order to disable the buttons accordingly. At the bottom of my KVO statement to handle the value change, I have: increaseButton.enabled = value != MAX; decreaseButton.enabled = value != MIN; While this code is functional, I can't help but feel that feel this is a naive approach to the problem, especially since this requires 4 connections. Is there a better solution to this, one that uses fewer connections?

• Making Django ignore string literals

  UPDATE: It turns out this is a deeper question than I thought at first glance - the issue is that python is replacing the string literals before they ever get to django. I will do more investigating and update this if I find a solution. I'm using django to work with LaTeX templates for report generation, and am running into a lot of problems with the way Django replaces parts of strings. Specficially, I've run into two problems where I try to insert a variable containing latex code. The first was that it would replace HTML characters, such as the less than symbol, with their HTML codes, which are of course gibberish to a LaTeX interpreter. I fixed this by setting the context to never autoescape, like so: c = Context(inputs) c.autoescape = False However, I still have my second issue, which is that Django replaces string literals with their corresponding characers, so a double backslash becomes \, and \b becomes a backspace. How can I force Django to leave these characters in place, so inputs['variable'] = '{\bf this is code} \\' won't get mangled when I use {{variable}} to reference it in the django template?

• BASH: Checking for environment variables

  Hi folks, I am trying to check the value of an environment variable and depending on the value do certain things and it works fine as long as the variable is set. When it isn't though I get a whole bunch of errors (as BASH is trying to compare the string I specify with an undefined variable, I guess) I tried implementing an extra check to prevent it happening but no luck. • List of dependency jar files in Maven

  Using Maven 2, is there a way I can list out the jar dependencies as just the file names? mvn dependency:build-classpath can list the jar files, but that will include the full path to their location in my local repository. What I need is essentially just a list of the file names (or the file names that the copy-dependencies goal copied). So the list I need would be something like activation-1.1.jar,antlr-2.7.6.jar,aopalliance-1.0.jar etc... ideally as a maven property, but I guess, a file such as build-classpath can generate will do. What I am trying to achieve is writing a Bundle-ClassPath to an otherwise manually maintained MANIFEST.MF file for a OSGi bundle. (You shouldn't need to understand this bit to answer the question.) To clarify: The question is not about how to write manifest headers into the MANIFEST.MF file in a jar (that is easily googleble). I am asking about how to get the data I want to write, namely the list shown above.

• Should the name of my classes begin with 'Q' in Qt?

  Hello Everyone, When I first started working with Qt, it was extremely annoying that every class has a name beginning with 'Q', but now I've got used to it. I'm using Qt Creator, and it highlights code quite well. However, it only highlights class names beginning with 'Q'. And it highlights everything beginning with 'Q' even if there is no such type. It doesn't highlight custom class names. That makes me wonder, should I also begin all my class names with 'Q'? Or at least the reusable ones? (I mean, those that I put in a class library, or reuse in another app.) I've seen several places where they named their classes this way. Is it a good thing? I found this page about Qt's naming conventions, but it doesn't deal with this question. Also, I don't understand why Qt doesn't use namespaces.

I have tried initializing a variable in the index method of the books controller but get exactly the same results. Thanks in advance! BTW had to make the links text because of stackoverflow limit.

• Why is volatile not considered useful in multithreaded C or C++ programming?

  As demonstrated in this answer I recently posted, I seem to be confused about the utility (or lack thereof) of volatile in multi-threaded programming contexts. My understanding is this: any time a variable may be changed outside the flow of control of a piece of code accessing it, that variable should be declared to be volatile. Signal handlers, I/O registers, and variables modified by another thread all constitute such situations. So, if you have a global int foo, and foo is read by one thread and set atomically by another thread (probably using an appropriate machine instruction), the reading thread sees this situation in the same way it sees a variable tweaked by a signal handler or modified by an external hardware condition and thus foo should be declared volatile (or, for multithreaded situations, accessed with memory-fenced load, which is probably a better a solution). How and where am I wrong?

Is there anyway i can set a global variable that can be distributed across all map/reduce tasks and check if the global variable reaches the condition for completion. Something like this.   In my code, I load up an entire folder into a list and then try to get rid of every file in the list except the .mp3 files. import os import re path = '/home/user/mp3/' dirList = os.listdir(path) dirList.sort() i = 0 for names in dirList: match = re.search(r'\.mp3', names) if match: i = i+1 else: dirList.remove(names) print dirList print i After I run the file, the code does get rid of some files in the list but keeps these two especifically: ['00. Various Artists - Indie Rock Playlist October 2008.m3u', '00. Various Artists - Indie Rock Playlist October 2008.pls'] I can't understand what's going on, why are those two specifically escaping my search.

• Updating variables in XSL

  Is there any way in XSL to update a global variable? I want to check what elements i already transformed and act accordingly. That would require me to somehow add the names of the elements to some sort of list and update it each time a new element is transformed. But since xsl:variable isn't "variable" in the sense one would expect, i have no way of adding anything to it once it has been defined. I have multiple included data files, so using xsl functions that only know the current set of nodes will not help.

I need to write a query to get a count of the people in the arraylist for certain sections i.e. There is a field "City" in my database from the people in the arraylist of names I want to know how many of them live in Chicago, how many live in New York etc. Can someone help me how I might set up an sql statement to handle this.   First-class value can be passed as an argument returned from a subroutine assigned into a variable. Second-class value just can be passed as an argument. Third-class value even can't be passed as an argument. Why should these things defined like that? As I understand, "can be passed as an argument" means it can be pushed into the runtime stack;"can be assigned into a variable" means it can be moved into a different location of the memory; "can be returned from a subroutine" almost has the same meaning of "can be assigned into a variable" since the returned value always be put into a known address, so first class value is totally "movable" or "dynamic",second class value is half "movable" , and third class value is just "static", such as labels in C/C++ which just can be addressed by goto statement, and you can't do nothing with that address except "goto" .Does My understanding make any sense? or what do these three kinds of values mean exactly?

  Hi all, in the data warehouse there's a default language for the measures, and I added a translation for German captions. In a Visual Studio Report Server project, when creating a query with my German OS, the cube and its measures are displayed in German language. When dragging measures to the mdx query windows, the default measure name is used. That's what I want and what I expect, since when writing MDX queries I would like to use the default measure names. But when executing the query, the columns created for each measure is translated to German again. This resuls in having German columns names within my dataset, which I dont want. I'd like to have the english column names. I already tried to change the connection string to: Data Source=server;Initial Catalog=DataWarehouse;LocaleIdentifier=1033 But that doesn't help, I still see German translations. Anyone knows how to set a specific translation?

  How can I use jQuery for messing with a particular div, but not in the current document - in a variable, that contains HTML? The point is that I want to show a preview of a page (a piece of it's content) in a modal window, when the link to this page is clicked. Well, onClick I load this whole HTML into a variable via JSON and then... how would I find a particular div I need in it? It's gonna be almost impossible to parse it with PHP before converting it into JSON and giving back to jQuery processor because of a deep hierarchy. Basically, is it even possible to do smth like $( 'div#some-id' ).blabla(); not for the current document, but for the document, stored in a variable? Thx everyone in advance.

  I have a collection of span elements. In the code I have a global variable that represents the "selected" object. Using the click event when a span is clicked I reset the object's class, reset the global variable, then set the object to the variable and change its class (to make it "highlighted"). I tried creating a click event on the body object, but that overrode the span click event so nothing was selected. I'm a complete jQuery noob and not sure where to go with this.

This is what I get when I execute show variables like 'char%': character_set_client utf8 character_set_connection utf8 character_set_database utf8 character_set_results utf8 character_set_server utf8 character_set_system utf8 character_sets_dir /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ I wonder why this is happening.
