• LINQ to SQL for tables across databases. Or View?

  I have a Message table and a User table. Both are in separate databases. There is a userID in the Message table that is used to join to the User table to find things like userName. How can I create this in LINQ to SQL? I can't seem to do a cross database join. Should I create a View in the database and use that instead? Will that work? What will happen to CRUD against it? E.g. if I delete a message - surely it won't delete the user? I'd imagine it would throw an error. What to do? I can't move the tables into the same database!

  Hi everyone, I have an application in python 2.5 which sends data through suds 0.3.6. The problem is that the data contains non-ascii characters, so I need the following header to exist in the soap message: Content-Type="text/html; charset="utf-8" and the header that exists in the SOAP message is just: Content-Type="text/html" I know that it is fixed in suds 0.4, but it requires Python2.6 and I NEED Python2.5 because I use CentOS and it needs that version. So the question is: How could I change or add new HTTP headers to a SOAP message?

• JRI Fatal Error on Ubuntu

  I have successfully installed JRI and rJava on Windows 7. I am now trying to get it to work on Ubuntu with 64bit OS. I can make rJava calls from within R but getting JRI to work is more difficult. I am running NetBeans 7.1.2 and I have followed various tricks in setting R_HOME and java.library.path to enable all the classes to be loaded. That is, I am past the error messages such as "jri library not found" and "R_HOME not set". From my java code,I can see that R_HOME = /usr/lib64/R. The error message I get now is Fatal error: you must specify '--save', '--no-save' or '--vanilla' This happens when Rengine is first called: Rengine r = new Rengine(args,false,null); This appears to be an error message from R; it seems to be expecting a command line argument. I haven't seen any posting with this error message. Any ideas? Thanks, Peter

• Child service not writing to event log

  I am having a very simple (but incredibly frustrating) issue with a parent service and the child service. Let's call the parent service "Service A" and the child "Service B". Both services reside on the same box. Using WCF Storm, when I send Service B a message, I see lots of entries in the event viewer for it. However, if I send a message to Service A, which calls Service B, I only see entries from Service A. So for some reason, the child logs are not written when the parent calls it, but if I call it myself, the logs do indeed show up, so I know it's not a problem with the logging or anything like that. Here is what I am using to write to the event log. // in some random static class private static EventLog el = new EventLog(); el.WriteEntry("In " + location + ", " + message); // params passed in Does anyone know why this is happening?   Hi, I want to design a game server in python. The game will mostly just be passing small packets filled with ints, strings, and bytes stuffed into one message. As I'm using a different language to write the game, a normal packet would be sent like so: Writebyte(buffer, 5); // Delimit type of message Writestring(buffer, "Hello"); Sendmessage(buffer, socket); As you can see, it writes the bytes to the buffer, and sends the buffer. Is there any way to read something like this in python? I am aware of the struct module, and I've used it to pack things, but I've never used it to actually read something with mixed types stuck into one message. Thanks for the help.

  My site has a messaging feature where one user may message another. The messages support threading - a parent message may have any number of children but only one level deep. The messages table looks like this: Messages - Id (PK, Auto-increment int) - UserId (FK, Users.Id) - FromUserId (FK, Users.Id) - ParentMessageId (FK to Messages.Id) - MessageText (varchar 200) I'd like to show messages on a page with each 'parent' message followed by a collapsed view of the children messages. Can I use the GROUP BY clause or similar construct to retrieve parent messages and children messages all in one query? Right now I am retrieving parent messages only, then looping through them and performing another query for each to get all related children messages. I'd like to get messages like this: Parent1 Child1 Child2 Child3 Parent2 Child1 Parent3 Child1 Child2

  I have a database table with parent child relationships between different rows. 1 parent can have any number of children. Children do not have children. I want to copy 'Message' from 'Parent Category' to child categories. CategoryID Name Value Message ParentID DeptId 1 Books 9 Specials 1 2 Music 7 1 3 Paperback 25 1 1 4 PDFs 26 1 2 5 CDs 35 2 1 If that was sample data, Paperback should have Specials as it's Message after the query is run. I've been searching for an answer to this all day and still don't even understand exactly what the problem is. I know that MIDIServices.h in the CoreMIDI framework defines: typedef void (*MIDINotifyProc)(const MIDINotification *message, void *refCon); But I don't understand if/why that would cause an error.   Hi, in my SQL2008 I have a user which is in the "db_datareader", "db_datawriter" and "db_ddladmin" DB roles, however when he tries to modify a table with SSMS he receives a message saying: You are not logged in as the database owner or system administrator. You might not be able to save changes to tables that you do not own. Of course, I would like to avoid such message, but until now I did find the way... Therefore, I try to modify the user by adding him to the "db_owner" role, and of course I do not have the message above. My question is: Is it possible to keep the user in the "db_owner" role, but deny some actions like alter user or ? I try "alter any user" securable on DB level, but it does not work... THANKS!

If I call sendSMS method three times, three new instances are started. I'm quite new to android so I need some help with this, I only want the same Sender to be on all the time

The IDE auto generates code that I don't necessarily need.   Hi, I am using an SMS Gateway to make my application receive SMSs. For this, the SMS Gateway sends a request to one of the pages in my application with the message as a querystring parameter. eg. http://myapplication/SMSReceiver.aspx?Message=PaulaIsHome. Now after my page gets invoked, I need to send an OK response to the SMS Gateway so that it doesn't keep retrying to send the same message to my application again and again.   I'm loading an external .php file using: <script type="text/javascript" src="myfile.js.php"></script> Within the external myfile.js.php file, I'm using: <?php header('content-type: text/javascript'); $message = "Test message"; ?> document.write('<?php echo $message; ?>'); Everything works fine until I change the name of myfile.js.php to just myfile.php Why does it stop working if I remove the .js part from the file name? I'm serving the file as text/javascript, plus shouldn't the .js part be ignored since .php is the actual file extension? Does anyone know why? Thanks!

• Redirect to prevent dup submission...but then you loose existing data

  Here's the scenario User is on your checkout.aspx page Somewhere in the process, when clicking the pay button, you redirect the user to an intermediate page (before the confirmation page) to do some other logic. That intermediate page performs whatever logic based on a querystring flag you sent with the redirect from the checkout page This intermediate page also serves as an error page. So if any logic in the intermediatePage.aspx.cs fails I'm setting a message to be displayed on this page to the user If I refresh, that querystring value is still in the url..hence when it hits my Page_Load again, then the server-side logic is called & run again and I don't want this to happen The avoid this behavior/problem, the logical next step is to do a redirect back to the same page if they refresh (not sure how you'd catch that) to get rid of that querystring But when you redirect back to the same page your error message is gone, lost in the redirect therefore you end up showing them the same page but all values for the error message are now gone I do not want to solve this with Javascript either. I am not sure the best way to handle this.

• What is the recommended way to split messages in send pipelines?

  I need to split a bizTalk message in the send pipeline. This is easy with disassemblers in receive pipelines, but doesn't work in send pipelines (makes sense). So what is the recommended way to do it? The only easy way to do it is to write the outbound message to file, then reprocess it using a receive pipeline with a disassembler, and then send the generated messages through a outbound pipeline. Honestly, I don't need the additional roundtrip through the message box, but I don't want to create a custom send adapter. Any other suggestions? Any easy way to save messages with multiple parts using the ootb file adapter?
