• Best usb storage for my router, Asus RT-AC66U?

  I have the ASUS RT-AC66U and I want to add a USB storage to it. It has 2x USB, and Im already using one for my printer. So the last one I want to use to attach a USB storage, and I've read some reviews stating the throughput of the USB could be up to 18 mb/s. So in regard of USB storage, should I care about hard disk cache? Simple powered-over-usb seems to have 8 mb cache, other (externally powered) has 16 for instance.

• Mitigating the 'firesheep' attack at the network layer?

  What are the sysadmin's thoughts on mitigating the 'firesheep' attack for servers they manage? Firesheep is a new firefox extension that allows anyone who installs it to sidejack session it can discover. It does it's discovery by sniffing packets on the network and looking for session cookies from known sites. It is relatively easy to write plugins for the extension to listen for cookies from additional sites. From a systems/network perspective, we've discussed the possibility of encrypting the whole site, but this introduces additional load on servers and screws with site-indexing, assets and general performance. One option we've investigated is to use our firewalls to do SSL Offload, but as I mentioned earlier, this would require all of the site to be encrypted. What's the general thoughts on protecting against this attack vector? I've asked a similar question on StackOverflow, however, it would be interesting to see what the systems engineers thought.

  I have granted new setting from my domain provider. Domain with specific port is pointing on computer in local network (fixed ip) like: mydomain.com:87 -> 192.168.1.1 Local machine is running on win server 2008. Everything works fine on local network. But mydomain.com:87 is not working. Are there extra settings for win server to allow connection from outside? (Firewall is turned off while searching for working result.)

• Accessing localhost:8080 through local network

  I'm developing a Python WSGI website. I'm running a Paste development server on my Mac (OS X 10.7) on port 8080. I want to test the website on some other devices and OSs I have connected to the local network (Windows 7 VM, iPad, iPhone, etc.), but am having trouble. I turned on Web Sharing, and am able to access that (port 80) without a problem on all my devices. Port 8080 still doesn't work. An excerpt from my Paste configuration: [server:main] use = egg:waitress#main host = 127.0.0.1 port = 8080 The OS X firewall (Settings - Security - Firewall) is off. I have no other firewall software installed. My network is through a Linksys WRT160N router. I haven't done much with the settings, so most of them are at their defaults. I've been Googling all morning, but can't find a solution.

• Switched to new router and now experiencing lag?

  I switched from a dynex-802.11b/g to a Netgear-802.11b/g/n just yesterday. My router is down stairs because my phoneline upstairs is retarded....but my PS3 is still upstairs (SOCOM: Confrontation is game I am experiencing issues). I have done everything I can to make sure the connection is solid and have checked the status and it has been as high as 80% and usually lingers at about 60%. I thought about upgrading my bandwidth from 1.5mbs to 7mbs, but I am guessing something is wrong if it worked fine before? Now the game seems more laggy and my voice chat is choppy. Others seem to receive my voice data fine because I can hear my own feedback clearly from other players (if you are in close proximity to another player and speak and there volume is loud enough sometimes you can hear yourself). I wonder if I port forward or setup DMZ then it will be fixed, but I am not sure and don't know quite how to do it. Has anyone else ever experienced this when switching routers? What did you do to fix it? Thanks!

  Is there any way that I can have windows 7 clients be able to go to "start" and type in the name of a file that is located on a network drive? I have read that this is possible through indexing, but to get through the indexing steps I need to make files available offline. This network drive I speak of has about 2tb of files on it. How in the heck can I keep all this straight. I imagine there would be syncing errors everywhere if I were to make all of these files available offline. Not to mention not all files being current due to the large amounts of files. Anyone have suggestions?

  I'm using an Internet Provider that requires a username and password to log in; the prompt shows up as soon as you open a web browser. Because of this, I can only have one device online at a time. How can I get my Time Capsule to essentially log in as the user and allow other devices to connect through it. My Time Capsule has worked with other ISPs that don't require the user log in, but I recently moved. I may be wrong about how the ISP is allowing access, I wasn't sure how to describe the problem.   Hi I have a multiservices sagem router which supports wifi as well, the pack came up with a default wifi configuration key and a WEP Key in the label of the package like this: WIFI Configuration key: abcd1234 WEP Key: C4H2F167C10263AEB98V52920E Now, when i execute the wifi usb wizard in the official cd, it asks me for the WIFI key, i put the abcd1234 & it says it's incorrect, i try the long WEP key and it says that the key should only have 8 characters. When i go to the control panel of the router in the wifi config, i see that: Open Authentification System WEP 128 Bit Passphrase: C4H2F167C10263AEB98V52920E Now since the wizard only accepts 8 characters, i try to change the 128bit to 64bit and put some 8 characters and it ends up saying that the new key should be 5 or 13, or 10-26 hex numbers. What to do? Thanks

  I have a computer with an external IP(192.168.223.220) and also an internal address (10.1.1.20) in order to connect to some servers that don't have external addresses only 10.1.1.xx . in order to connect to these servers from other machines I used the following command "route ADD 10.1.1.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.223.220" and than I was able to connect to the servers using there 10.1.1.xx address. The problem is that the hard disk of main server(192.168.223.220) died and was replaced and after the that I am not able to connect to the servers as before, the route command succeeds and I can ping 10.1.1.20 but not the other servers.   I have a home network, and I'm trying to share a printer connected to one of the PCs. The wireless modem through which the internet comes through doesn't reach the entire house, so we have another router set up as well. The modem is 192.168.1.1 (let's call this A) and the router is set up as 192.168.1.100 (let's call this B). Subnet masks 255.255.255.0. The printer is hooked up to a PC on B. • How can I restrict my mates to stop downloading?

  We are sharing an internet broadband connection with 6 users at a place we live. We get 20 gb fup ( Fair usage policy) with 2 mbps speed from the ISP after the 20 gb is consumed the speed comes down to 512 kbps very difficult to browse any page. The problem is we cannot track which user/mate is downloading and ending the FUP. it is very difficult to track so is there something that we can allot per user some amount of space like 2 gb of downloading or restrict all from downloading so that we can utilize all the fup till the end of the month. We are using this connection as wifi configured. A adsl router is configured as wifi and we all using all 6 laptops. No PC. Any help would be appreciated.   My friend having problems with her laptop and I am trying to help her via SMS. She can't get her laptop connected to the internet via the Ethernet connection and there is no WiFi in the area. Could it be because her WiFi is switch on, she is using an acer aspire. If she manually switches it off could that allow the ethernet connecttion to work? Or is it a missing driver? When I used 2.4 ghz, the channel management features did not seem to work and we experienced frequent problems. When I switched to 5 ghz the problems went away.   We just upgraded our company intranet from an IIS based, ASP (poorly written) server/code base to a Windows Server 2008 r2 (Apache/MySQL/PHP) server. The old server allowed users to login to intranet.xxx.org using there AD user/pass which then lead them to the company Intranet from basically anywhere they had Internet access. We want to mimic that functionality (or change it to something more secure) with the new setup. This was seemingly setup for off-site employees running on a state network. The state network does not allow VPN, therefor, we needed a way to allow those employees access to the Intranet. So, how do we go about allowing users to login from the outside world and gain access to our Intranet?

  I can not seem to connect to YouTube at all. If I connect directly to YouTube (youtube.com) I get this: And if I try to connect via video directly (youtube.com/watch?v=), I get this: Here's how this isn't a web issue: I have malware on my computer I believe. And the question here is, how do I get rid of it, or what possible issue could this be? I can verify this is not a website issue or wifi issue, I've tried to connect on another computer in my wifi, and it worked. It is the local machine issue. I've tried to get rid of malware at my best and also have tried to disable possible virus extensions. All can out as the same result: no help. Also, I am unable to find these hiding viruses. • Preventing apps to access info from wifi device?

  Browsers like Chrome and Firefox can use my wifi device to get information about the surrounded APs and pin point my physical location using Google Location Services, I know these browser always ask for permissions to do this, and that these features can also be "turned off". But I was wondering if there's a better way to prevent ANY application to access this information from my wifi device. I don't like anyone on the internet knowing where I live, and I am worried some software could do the same as these browsers but without asking for permissions. I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
