• Volume Control in android application

  Hi, I'd like to know how to control my application's volume from the volume keys ( contrary to my belief , I've read they control only the ringer volume). Should I overwrite the onKey Down/Up ? , or is there other way to accomplish this ? . I'm asking because if I overwrite the upper mentioned function for an activity, then the functions will receive the event only if a view associated with the this activity has the focus, and I looking for something "Globaly" ( to work no matter what activity is running now)

• Android Cursor size

  Hey, Anyone knows how to change cursor size in Edittext in Anroid??? I'm trying to implement SMS function. I used EditText and tried to put background image. The background image has lines so I need to put extra space between lines so that the background image and the lines fit nicely. But... if I use linespacingextra, it increase cursor as well. That means the fontsize will be smaller than the cursor size. Any idea??

  Hi , I have a date picker and a time picker in my app. Can anyone tell me how to get the values of the date and time that are selected??? What i mean to say is, for EditText we can declare as final EditText Name = (EditText) this.findViewById(R.id.nametext); and we can cast the data of it by using Name.getText().toString(). So similarly how can we get the values of date picker and time picker to a string???

• Using icons in Android preferences

  I would like some of my preferences to have icons, like the Settings app. I guess one way of doing this would be to copy all the relevant code and resources from the Settings app, but it seems like overkill for a couple of icons. Also I don't like the idea of having to duplicate the code and resources in each project that requires settings icons. Has anyone solved this already with a simpler or resource-free approach?

  Hi, In the application I am developing, I would like to send messages in the form of JSON objects to a Django Server and parse the JSON response from the server and populate a custom listview.   hi, I get null pointer exception at line mService.start() when i try to bind to an already started service. I do the same thing from different activity(where the service gets started) everythig goes right. All these activities are part of one application. • Android TextView's Background Not Moving When TextView.Padding Changes

  I have a TextView that I created in the main.xml. In my app.java I am dynamically positioning that TextView based on where the user taps the screen. The problem I am having is that when I call myTextView.setPadding(100,100,0,0), it moves the actual Text of the TextView, but does not move the Colored Background of the TextView. Ideas?

• Android: No icon for Notification

  Hello, I wanted to create a notification without the icon in the status bar (the state that is not expanded). I tried the custom expanded view and set the icon for this view only. But it did not work. When I give 0 as icon to the constructor, the icon disappears but notification also does not appear in the expanded view. Notification notification = new Notification(0, "", 0); I tried a lot of combinations but didn't come out with a solution. By the way, I know it is working because I saw this feature in some apps. • Developing Android applications with Visual Studio 2008

  Hi all, I've recently obtained an HTC Desire and I'm interested in porting my 3D engine to the device. I have a slight annoyance however. I'd love to be able to do development under Visual Studio 2008. Am I to assume I'm going to need to re-process my SLN files to do GCC builds? Its not a vast issue as I already have an application that processes SLN and VCProj files through GCC and then links them together at the other end. I'll just need to set up the right libraries with it. Are there any other gotchas I need to think about? Or, indeed, is there an easier way? Any info would be much appreciated! Cheers :)

• Custom title bar without padding (Android)

  So I am using the techniques in this thread to use a custom background for my titlebar. Unfortunately the framework places my layout inside a FrameLayout which has padding and so the image doesn't cover the whole bar, but instead has gray borderes. Is there anyway to remove this padding? I can't just set the padding attributes because I do not create the frame layout.

  I'm developing an application that shows a path on a map, determined by a KML file. The problem is, when I press the "Back" button, it does not return to the previous screen but instead just hides the KML overlay. If the "Back" button is pressed again, it will return to the previous screen. Any ideas of how to solve this?

• Help with Android LinearLayout or RelativeLayout

  I need to create two views programmatically (because I need to access the ondraw of one of the views). For some reason, no matter what I do to add the views to the contentview, they don't show up vertically stacked, one below the other. I can do it just fine using the XML using a RelativeLayout and layout positioning, but with the XML I can't create a view object and overload the ondraw method. What am I doing wrong with the programmatic approach, and how do I solve this problem?   My web service is returning quite a bit of data, so i'm storing it in an arraylist and returning that to my application. I don't know whether or not this is the preferred method or not. When the arraylist is returned and displayed in my application, it also displays the arraylists "anyType" section. • Scheduling notifications in Android

  Hi, I need to be able to schedule multiple Notifications at different times in the future. I tried doing this with an AlarmManager, but that isn't suitable, for the following reason. From AlarmManager.set(): "If there is already an alarm for this Intent scheduled (with the equality of two intents being defined by filterEquals(Intent)), then it will be removed and replaced by this one." Guess what, the sending intents are equal, apart from different Extra's (but those don't count for filterEquals). So how can I schedule multiple notifications, which will still be shown when my application is killed (the whole reason I tried AlarmManager)? Thanks.
