For example, I want to match all users except #9 against #9 to see which of the IDs in the "following_list" column they have in common. I found a way of doing this through the "SET" datatype and some bit trickery: http://dev.mysql.com/tech-resources/articles/mysql-set-datatype.html#bits However, I need to do this on an arbitrary list of IDs.   I have a TableViewController which display a list of NewsItem objects: @interface NewsItem : NSObject { NSString *feedID; NSString *title; NSDate *published; } I'm trying to implement a Table View Controller (multiple sections) that can display the list in two ways: One divide News Items into sections which based on Published Date The other would be based on FeedID (News source). And I don't know how to structure the data source so that the code is easy to maintain. I tried to put the list of News Items into a 2 dimension Array in this case is a NSMutableArray of NSArray objects. However I got some objc_exception_throw and I don't think this is flexible enough. Could you guys give me some ideas?

  I have a database table with parent child relationships between different rows. 1 parent can have any number of children. Children do not have children. I want to copy 'Message' from 'Parent Category' to child categories. CategoryID Name Value Message ParentID DeptId 1 Books 9 Specials 1 2 Music 7 1 3 Paperback 25 1 1 4 PDFs 26 1 2 5 CDs 35 2 1 If that was sample data, Paperback should have Specials as it's Message after the query is run. I have gotten the child rows (the query runs very slow, don't know why), but how do I get the data and assign it to appropriate child rows? --@DeptId = 1 select * from Categories where ParentID in( select CategoryID from Categories where DeptID = @DeptId ) I would like to see a solution that would not use cursors. • NHibernate Many-to-many with a boolean flag on the association table

  Hi I am doing some work on an application that uses an existing schema that cannot be altered. Whilst writing my NHibernate mappings I encountered a strange many-to-many relationship. The relationship is defined in the standard way as in this question with the addition of a boolean flag on the association table that signifies if the relationship is legal. This seems somewhat redundant but as I say, cannot be changed. Is it possible to define this relationship in Nhibernate without resorting to using a third class to represent the association? Perhaps by applying a filter? Many thanks.

• Implementing a runtime Look Up Table in C#

  Hey all, I'm currently working on a robot interface GUI, using C#. The robot has two sensors, and two powered wheels. I need to let the user the option to load a Look Up Table (LUT) during runtime, one for each sensor, that will tell the robot what to do according to the sensor's reading. I think the best way to do it is using a .csv file, formatted like so: index , right wheel order, left wheel order the index is an int between 0-1023 and is actually the sensor's reading. the orders for the right and left wheel are integers, between -500 - 500. Example - left sensor's readings: 1,10,20 meaning: sensor reads 1 -- left wheel 10 rpm right wheel 20 rpm So my question is this: what is the best way to implement it? using a dataset?(if so, how?) using an array? (if so, how do I load it during runtime?) Any help would be much appreciated, Yarok

Well the problem is sometimes the cheque might not have any information in it. So how do i get MYSQL to ignore that table and still continue displaying the rest of the information? thanks!

  I am using L2S and an inheritance model for mapping Persons against certain roles. Guy Burstein's excellent blog post explains how to accomplish this: http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/bursteg/archive/2007/10/01/linq-to-sql-inheritance.aspx However, I have a specific case where a Person has multiple roles. For example 'Jane Doe' is a Contact and a Programmer. In this model, she would need two rows in the People table, one as Contact (PersonType = 1) and one as Programmer (PersonType = 3). If she changes her last name, and that update happens in her role as Contact, I would need to change all instances of 'Jane Doe' to reflect the name change everywhere. What sort of best approach (improved data structure) could be used to change last name within all roles? Finally, I am hoping to avoid overriding each general form update events to include all instances, but that may be the only way. Any suggestions or approaches appreciated.

  I have a code: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS Person ( name varchar(24) ... ) CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_polish_ci; This works OK in my application, but I read if someone put in name field a string that contains character wchich code is greater than 127, database will use 2 bytes (or more) to store this character. So i think, i will change character set to utf16: CHARACTER SET utf16 COLLATE utf16_polish_ci; But now when I run my application, exception apears: KeyNotFoundException. It apears exactly at these instructions: MySqlCommand komenda = baza.Polaczenie.CreateCommand (); komenda.CommandText = zapytanie; MySqlDataReader dr = komenda.ExecuteReader (); // HERE, at execute reader method if (dr.Read ()) ... 1) Anyone had similar problem? 2) Any idea how to use always 2 bytes/char in database field?

  We have a requirement to delete rows in the order of millions from multiple tables as a batch job (note that we are not deleting all the rows, we are deleting based on a timestamp stored in an indexed column). Obviously a normal DELETE takes forever (because of logging, referential constraint checking etc.). I know in the LUW world, we have ALTER TABLE NOT LOGGED INITIALLY but I can't seem to find the an equivalent SQL statement for DB2 v8 z/OS. Any one has any ideas on how to do this really fast? Also, any ideas on how to avoid the referential checks when deleting the rows? Please let me know.

I would like to be able to perform a query that returns me a set of ranges for a given type broken into even page sizes. For instance, if there are 10,000 records of type '1' and I specify a page size of 1000, I want 10 pairs of numbers back representing values I can use in a BETWEEN clause in subsequent queries to query the DB 1000 records at a time. I also have a data table and data adaptor, both of which I know work. I am trying to update something in the database, yet it isn't working. Assume everything listed is declared correctly. What am I doing wrong? teacher_control_table.Rows(0)("DATA_TeacherLockPasscode") = txtPasscode1.Text table_adaptor2.Update(teacher_control_table) That last line throws the following exception: InvalidOperationException was unhandled. update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows.

  My app has a navigation controller which push and pop a series of views. One of the tableViews loads .xml file from URL and it takes 4-5 seconds. If I click the back button on the navigation bar, it will only respond after the content of the table finish loading. Is there an easy way to load the content asynchronously so that the app will still respond to my gesture on the navigation bar? p.s. • How to find and update the next record in a linking table

  I have a classifieds system I'm working on. People are able to add photos to a classified, but I only display one when displaying the list of classifieds. To do that, I have a linking table between classifieds and photos that has a "is_main" boolean field. When someone deletes one of their classified photos, I want to: 1) See if there is more than that photo tied to the classified. 2) If there is, update the next photo and set that "is_main" field to TRUE. Just trying to find out the most efficient way to do this.
