• Visual Studio Publish using Web Deploy gives SSL Exception?

  Im trying to use Web Deploy with arvixe hosting. I enabled Publishing with the host but I get SSL exception when I hit publish. Is anybody familiar with the following exception: Error 59 Web deployment task failed.(Could not complete the request to remote agent URL 'https://yew.arvixe.com:8172/msdeploy.axd?site=mywebsite.com'.) Could not complete the request to remote agent URL 'https://yew.arvixe.com:8172/msdeploy.axd?site=mywebsite.com'. • How can I go through a Set in JSP? (Hibernate Associations)

  Hi All, So I am pretty new to JSP. I have tried this a few ways. Ways that would make sense in PHP or automagicy frameworks... I am probably thinking too much in fact... I have a hibernate one to many association. That is class x has many of class y. In class x's view.jsp. I would like to grab all of class y, where the foreign key of y matches the primary key of x and display them. It seems that hibernate properly puts this stuff into a set. Now, the question is how can I iterate through this set and then output it's contents... I am kind of stumped here. I tried to write a scriptlet, <% java.util.Iterator iter = aBean.getYs().iter(); // aBeans is the bean name // getYs would return the set and iter would return an iterator for the set while(iter.hasNext) { model.X a = new iter.next() %> <h1><%=a.getTitle()%></h1> <% } %> It would seem that that sort of thing should work? • How to use Messageboxes in MVVM?

  It seems that the XAML in MVVM pattern has difficulty to pop-up a Messageboxes. My client insists that the validation labels and colors are not good for them. They still want a messagebox. How can do it? I know I can pop-up messageboxes in the view-model, but it violates the whole purpose for the view-model. I can also raise a error, and pop-up a messagebox in some exception handlers, but the messagebox is not an exception. It is part of the normal program flow. Is there a good way to do it in XAML? My client likes messageboxes. She does not care about the MVVM pattern, she never had any quality problem before using MVVM and unit test. But now, she can not even get her messageboxes, so she is not very happy. Your help is definitely appreciated ... I need to make her happy.

  My company is planning to implement a solution in multiple applications that will help to validate mailing addresses at the point of data entry. We're using UPS's Extended Address Validation (XAV) web service API to validate the addresses. Our current plan is to build a .NET web service that can be used to communicate between our applications and the UPS API. We have applications in VB6, classic ASP, and .NET 2.0, so we'd like to implement a solution that can be easily consumed by each of these programming environments. What are our (Microsoft) options for designing a web service that can be consumed by multiple clients? In particular, is there a way to design a single web service that can respond with JSON (in case we want to validate our web page using javascript) in addition to XML? I'm new to designing web services and want to make sure we consider all of our options. I've heard terms like asmx, WCF, OData, etc., but I don't know which frameworks will support what we're trying to do and where to start.

• qTip with jQuery dialogs

  I'm using qTip to show validation errors in a grid. The tooltip appears after a failed row save and doesn't disappear until the row is resaved or the changes are canceled. The problem with this is that opening a dialog while the tooltip is visible causes the tooltip to be rendered on top of the dialog. That is because the z-index is hard-coded to 6000+ for all tooltips, while jQuery dialogs are set to 1000+. I could fix this problem by changing the hard-coded value in qTip to <1000, but then tooltips fired from the dialog will appear behind the dialog. Is there anything I can do, aside from changing the qTip code or using a different tooltip library?

  Anyone know of a project(s) that seek to abstract form definitions on level higher than WPF, Silverlight, Winforms, WebForms, etc... I'm working on a project where we are fixing up 16 somewhat simple WebForms. But we may convert (and probably will convert to WPF or Silverlight 3 to 4 months from now. I'd rather define these forms once and be done with it. I'm willing to write a small DSL to help define forms, subforms, validation, links, and popups. I'm only looking to solve this for 80% or 90% of the forms. Four are very complicated and I'm willing to hand code these. I guess I'm looking for something like what XUL had hoped to be.

• JSF skips phases - How to debug that?

  Hey fellows, I have to debug a foreign jsf application thanks god. The problem is, that I submit a form, but the values aren't carried over. With a phase listener I can see, that the life cycle doesn't run completely through, so to say it skips phase 2 -5: After the restore view phase, the render response phase is directly called. I miss the apply values, validation, update model actions and so on. So, this could be a chicken-and-egg problem: 1. The responsible phases aren't called, so the new form input can't be carried over. 2. The system doesn't recognize any new input and therefore directly renders after restoring the view. I checked that there is no call of responseComplete() oder renderResponse(). I'm stuck somehow. Any idea to validate one of the two hypothesis? Or how to debug that in general? Did anybody have a similar problem?

• Rails: getting logic to run at end of request, regardless of filter chain aborts?

  Is there a reliable mechanism discussed in rails documentation for calling a function at the end of the request, regardless of filter chain aborts? It's not after filters, because after filters don't get called if any prior filter redirected or rendered. For context, I'm trying to put some structured profiling/reporting information into the app log at the end of every request. This information is collected throughought the request lifetime via instance variables wrapped in custom controller accessors, and dumped at the end in a JSON blob for use by a post-processing script. My end goal is to generate reports about my application's logical query distribution (things that depend on controller logic, not just request URIs and parameters), performance profile (time spent in specific DB queries or blocked on webservices), failure rates (including invalid incoming requests that get rejected by before_filter validation rules), and a slew of other things that cannot really be parsed from the basic information in the application and apache logs. At a higher level, is there a different "rails way" that solves my app profiling goal?

And I have create the following java bean public class Store { List<Staff> myStaff List<Item> myItem .... } public class Staff { ... } public class Item { ... } My question is how can I use iBatis's result map to EFFICIENTLY map from the tables to the java object? I tried: <resultMap id="storemap" class="my.example.Store"> <result property="myStaff" resultMap="staffMap"/> <result property="myItem" result="itemMap"/> </resultMap> (other maps omitted) But it's way too slow since the Store table is VERY VERY large. I tried to follow the example in Clinton's developer guide for the N+1 solution, but I cannot warp my mind around how to use the "groupBy" for an object with 2 list... Any help is appreciated!

• Rails - Preventing users from contributing to website when there score is too low - callback / obser

  A User can add a Sentence directly on my website, via twitter or email. To add a sentence they must have a minimum score. If they don't have the minimum score they cant post the sentence and a warning message is either flashed on the website, sent back to them via twitter or email. So I'm wondering how best to code this check. Im thinking a sentence observer. So far my thoughts are in before_create score_sufficient() - score ok = save - score too low = do not save In the case of too low i need to return some flag so that the calling code can then fire off teh relevant warning. What type of flag should I return? False is too ambiguous as that could refer to validation. I could raise an exception but that doesn't sound right or I could return a symbol? Is this even the right approach? What's the best way to code this?

  I have a simple WCF service that I call server side from code behind via a service reference. It's used for validation and works and was automatically setup by Visual Studio and is using SOAP I think because the binding is wsHttpBinding. I want to use the same WCF service, but call it client side from jQuery using ajax(). I'm trying to implement it by way of these instructions. But if I make the changes to get the client side call working, I have to add the decoration below which I think will break what works on the server side and also change the system.serviceModel section in web.config. [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped, ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json, RequestFormat= WebMessageFormat.Json) ] How do I have a WCF service that can be called both from the server-side and client side (jQuery/ajax)?

  If I need to post this elsewhere let me know. We have some old software thats being re-written, that uses a printerdriver to a propriatery printer. I need to rewrite the software bypassing the print driver and go directly to the printer. I do have the specs for the printer communication, thats fine, but what Id like to do is monitor the communications to the printer to view its contents (from the existing software that Im re-writing) and compare it to the specs, and what I will be sending it for validation. I found some webservices which provide such services but they are mostly oriented towards non-programmers and the forms they generate are not easily customizable and do not support all kinds of functionalities. • ASP.NET MVC - How to Preserve ModelState Errors Across RedirectToAction?

If an error occurs, i need to display the same page with the error. If i do return View(), the error is displayed, but if i do return RedirectToAction (as above), it loses the Model errors. I'm not surprised by the issue, just wondering how you guys handle this? I could of course just return the same View instead of the redirect, but i have logic in the "Create" method which populates the view data, which i'd have to duplicate. Any suggestions?

• Are there Windows API binaries for Subversion or do I have to build SVN to call the API from Windows

  I want to call a Subversion API from a Visual Studio 2003 C++ project. I know there are threads here, here, here, and here that tell how to get started with C#.NET on Windows (the consensus seems to be SharpSvn, which I've used easily and successfully on another project) but that's not what I want. I've read the chapter on using APIs in the red-bean book which says: Subversion is primarily a set of C libraries, with header (.h) files that live in the subversion/include directory of the source tree. These headers are copied into your system locations (e.g., /usr/local/include) when you build and install Subversion itself from source. These headers represent the entirety of the functions and types meant to be accessible by users of the Subversion libraries. I'd like to use CollabNet Subversion but there doesn't seem to be API binary downloads, and I'd just as soon not build the whole thing if I can avoid it. Considering another approach, I found RapidSVN's C++ API, but it doesn't appear to offer Windows API binaries either and seems to require building SVN (which I would be willing to do as a last choice if RapidSVN's API is higher-level than the stock SVN offering.) Does calling the API from C++ in Windows have to be this much more work compared to using SharpSvn under .NET, or is there something I haven't found that would help me achieve my goal?

• Windows Installer (C#) error code 2869

  I have a project, in VS 2005, which has a console application and a setup project associated to install the application. I also have an installer class in the console application that the setup project will use to do some validation before installation. Those tasks are checking the database connection string and checking some directory locations to make sure they exist prior to installation. I am getting an error code of 2869 when I try to install the application. All the code is written in C#. I have googled for this error code on Windows XP, but only found articles that deal with Vista and Windows 7. Any ideas what might be happening? Is there a workaround?

• Errors in Decimal Calcs within def clean method?

  I'm attempting a few simple calculations in a def clean method following validation (basically spitting out a euro conversion of retrieved uk product price on the fly). I keep getting a TypeError. Full error reads: Cannot convert {'product': , 'invoice': , 'order_discount': Decimal("0.00"), 'order_price': {...}, 'order_adjust': None, 'order_value': None, 'DELETE': False, 'id': 92, 'quantity': 8} to Decimal so I guess django is passing through the entire cleaned_data form to Decimal method. Not sure where I'm going wrong - the code I'm working with is: def clean_order_price(self): cleaned_data = self.cleaned_data data = self.data order_price = cleaned_data.get("order_price") if not order_price: try: existing_price = ProductCostPrice.objects.get(supplier=data['supplier'], product_id=cleaned_data['product'], is_latest=True) except ProductCostPrice.DoesNotExist: existing_price = None if not existing_price: raise forms.ValidationError('No match found, please enter new price') else: if data['invoice_type'] == 1: return existing_price.cost_price_gross elif data['invoice_type'] == 2: exchange = EuroExchangeRate.objects.latest('exchange_date') calc = exchange.exchange_rate * float(existing_price.cost_price_gross) calc = Decimal(str(calc)) return calc return cleaned_data If the invoice is of type 2 (a euro invoice) then the system should grab the latest exchange rate and apply that to the matching UK pound price pulled through to get euro result. • Validating call to web service against schema before sending request

  I am calling a web service (written in Java) in my web app. I use the WSDL to generate proxy classes using the wsdl.exe command line tool. Everything is working fine. However, I have found out that the web service is not doing any data validation at all when they receive a request from my app. Hence, if I happen to send one minute piece of data that isn't exactly what they want, I receive a general fault error in return, with no specifics at all of what the incorrect (if any) piece of data is. So, before I make the request, I'd like to validate my request against the schema they have provided. Is this possible, and if so, how do I go about this? Thanks in advance

• Glassfish 3: How do I get and use a developers build so I can navigate a stack trace including Glas

  I am migrating a JSF 1.1 application to JEE 6 Web profile, and doing it in steps. I am in the process of moving from JSP with JSF 1.1 to Facelets under JSF 1.2 using the jsf-facelets.jar for JSF 1.2, and received an "interesting" stack trace when trying to lookup a key in a Map using a "{Bean.foo.map.key}" where the stacktrace complained about "key" not being a valid integer. (After code introspection I am workarounding it using a number as the key). That bug is not what this question is about. In such a situation it is essential to be able to navigate the source of every line in the stack trace. In Eclipse I normally attach a source jar to every jar on the build path, but in this particular case the Glassfish server adapter creates a library automatically containing the jars. Also there is to my knowledge no debug build of Glassfish where sources are included in the bundle. Glassfish is a non-trivial Maven project, and a bit picky too. I am not very familiar with maven, but have managed to checkout the code from Subversion and build it for the 3.0 tag according to http://wiki.glassfish.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=V3FullBuildInstructions#section-V3FullBuildInstructions-CheckoutTheWorkspace - it appears to be the code corresponding to the official released 3.0 version. After finishing the "mvn -U install" part, I have then tried to create Eclipse projects by first using "mvn -DdownloadSources=true eclipse:eclipse" and then import them in Eclipse JEE 3.5.2 and specifying the M2_REPO variable but many of the projects still have compilation errors, and I cannot locate any instructions from Oracle about how to do this. I'd appreciate some help in just getting a functional IDE workspace reflecting the 3.0 version of Glassfish. I have Eclipse 3.5.2, Netbeans 6.8 and 6.9 beta, and IntelliJ IDEA 9, and Linux/Windows/OS X do do it on.

  Hi, currently I am using yet 1.1 specs, so I am trying to make simple what is too complex for me :p, managing backing beans with conflicting navigation rules, external params breaking rules and so on... for example when I need a backing bean used by other "views" simply I call it using FacesContext inside other backing beans, but often it's too wired up to JSF navigation/initialization rules to be really usable, and of course more simple is more useful become the FacesContext. So with only a bit of cross browser Javascript (simply a form copy and a read-write on a "proxy" form), I create a sort of proxy form inside the main user page (totally disassociated from JSF navigation rules, but using JSF taglibs). Ajax gives me flexibility on the user interaction, but data is always managed by JSF. Pratically I demand all "fictious" user actions to an hidden "iframe" which build up all needed forms according JSF rules, then a javascript simply clone its form output and put it into the user view level (CSS for showing/hiding real command buttons and making pretty), the user plays around and when he click submit, a script copies all "proxied" form values into the real JSF form inside the "iframe" that invokes the real submit of the form, what it returns is obviously dependent by your choice. Now JSF is really a pleasure :-p My real interest is to know what are your alternative strategy for using pure Ajax and JSF 1.1 without adopting middle layer like ajax4jsf and others, all good choices but too much "plugins" than specs.
