  • Compiling a program with a legacy version of gcc

    This is probably a very difficult problem to troubleshoot with the information I can practically provide, but I'm hoping someone might be able to at least point me in a possible direction. I'm trying to install HTK (http://htk.eng.cam.ac.uk/), which, according to this page needs to be installed using gcc 3.4. Their method of implementing backwards compatibility: #yum install compat-gcc-34-c++ compat-gcc-34 won't work for me as I'm running Ubuntu (On that note, I take it I can't simply install YUM and the subsequent package, since it's an entirely different distro, but if I'm wrong I'd love to hear it). I instead installed two versions of gcc 3.4 - 3.4.0 and 3.4.6 using instructions from this site. I then added the lines suggested by that page to the top of the makefile (on this note, what's the difference between makefile and makefile.in? I tried adding the lines to the top of both files regardless), both for version 3.4.0 and 3.4.6, but both failed. I also tried, on the off-chance, compiling it with my current version (4.4.1), but that also failed.   • Drupal vs ExpressionEngine for any kind of project from simple commercial site to complex ecommerce

    Hi friends... So far I've been using custom cms. lately I developed own cms with CodeIgniter, and I'm actually happy. But recently I take more design and front-end development works than deep development projects. I actually also prefer so... I have many things to do with custom cms, also some security issues, etc. I'm kind of tired of doing everyhing custom, also I want to give more time to my family... Recently I'm seriously considering to go for a ready cms, and develop custom plugins when project need sth specific. This cms should be very flexible to implement any layout. also secured (since i had some hack problems with my custom cms!) I googled so much about this. As a result 2 options: Drupal Expression Engine opensource or licensed matter is not an issue for me at all. I just consider to go for a cms that I can use for any kind of project from simple 4-5 pages company sites to complicated projects like hotels directory, ecommerce portals, etc... As I found out; EE is more userfriendly and doesnt hassle about implementing custom layout as much as Drupal does. Also EE use CodeIgniter that I'm familiar. on the other hand I found out that Drupal is 10000% flexible, we can do anything with that (requires good php knowledge), extremely powerful and has many plugins... So I can't decide!! I want to go for a cms that I will use for looooong years from now on with no problems to implement any kind of project. So which one do you recommend?   • pointPolygonTest in OpenCV 2.2

    I wanted to use pointPolygonTest but I have a problem. I'm stuck to OpenCV2.2. I tried to use the code found here: http://docs.opencv.org/doc/tutorials/imgproc/shapedescriptors/point_polygon_test/point_polygon_test.html#point-polygon-test I use findContours to detect contours in an image. Under OpenCV 2.2 returns a vector< vector<Point> >. The problem is that pointPolygonTest accept a matrix as an entry.   • What do you mean by the expressiveness in a programming language?

    I see a lot of the word 'expressiveness' when people want to stress one language is better than the other. But I don't see exactly what they mean by it. Is it the verboseness/succinctness? I mean, if one language can write down something shorter than the other, does that mean expressiveness?     I am using jquery dialogs to present forms (fetched via AJAX). On some forms I am using a CKEditor for the textareas. The editor displays fine on the first load. When the user cancels the dialog, I am removing the contents so that they are loaded fresh on a later request. The issue is, once the dialog is reloaded, the CKEditor claims the editor already exists. uncaught exception: [CKEDITOR.editor] The instance "textarea_name" already exists. The API includes a method for destroying existing editors, and I have seen people claiming this is a solution: if (CKEDITOR.instances['textarea_name']) { CKEDITOR.instances['textarea_name'].destroy(); } CKEDITOR.replace('textarea_name'); This is not working for me, as I receive a new error instead: TypeError: Result of expression 'i.contentWindow' [null] is not an object. This error seems to occur on the "destroy()" rather than the "replace()". Has anyone experienced this and found a different solution? Is is possible to 're-render' the existing editor, rather than destroying and replacing it?     Hi there, So i have a UserControl for one of my Views and have another 'child' UserControl inside that. The outer 'parent' UserControl has a Collection on its View-Model and a Grid control on it to display a list of Items. I want to place another UserControl inside this UserControl to display a form representing the details of one Item. The outer / parent UserControl's View-Model already has a property on it to hold the currently selected Item and i would like to bind this to a DependancyProperty on the inner / child UserControl. I would then like to bind that DependancyProperty to a property on the child UserControl's View-Model. I can then set the DependancyProperty once in XAML with a binding expression and have the child UserControl do all its work in its View-Model like it should. The code i have looks like this..     Hey All, I want something like this: http://cybernetnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/windows-7-wireless.jpg This window is not resizable, and aligns itself above the system tray icon which it is related to. I have this: http://i.imgur.com/79FZi.png Which is resizeable, and it goes wherever it feels like. If you click the volume control in Win 7, it always pops up directly above the icon. This is ideal. I've found this reference which I think is trying to solve the same problem (can't tell though as the images are dead), http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2169006/create-a-system-tray-styled-box-in-winforms-c but I'm using WPF and I'm not sure how to get these Form objects they refer to from my Window object. Langspec-3.0 para 15.25 sais: Otherwise, the second and third operands are of types S1 and S2 respectively. Let T1 be the type that results from applying boxing conversion to S1, and let T2 be the type that results from applying boxing conversion to S2. The type of the conditional expression is the result of applying capture conversion (§5.1.10) to lub(T1, T2) (§15.12.2.7). So for false?1.0f:null T1 is Float and T2 is the null type. But what is the result of lub(T1,T2)? This para 15.12.2.7 is just a bit too much ... BTW, I'm using 1.6.0_18 on Windows. PS: I know that Float f2 = false? (Float) 1.0f: false? (Float) 1.0f: null; doesn't throw NPE.

    I am trying to parse a context-free language, called Context Free Art. I have created its parser in Javascript using a YACC-like JS LALR(1) parser generator JSCC. Take the example of following CFA (Context Free Art) code. This code is a valid CFA. startshape A rule A { CIRCLE { s 1} } Notice the A and s in above. s is a command to scale the CIRCLE, but A is just a name of this rule. In the language's grammar I have set s as token SCALE and A comes under token STRING (I have a regular expression to match string and it is at the bottom of of all tokens). This works fine, but in the below case it breaks. startshape s rule s { CIRCLE { s 1} } This too is a perfectly valid code, but since my parser marks s after rule as SCALE token so it errors out saying that it was expecting STRING. Now my question is, if there is any way to re-write the production rules of the parser to account for this? The related production rule is:- rule: RULE STRING '{' buncha_replacements '}' [* rule(%2, 1) *] | RULE STRING RATIONAL '{' buncha_replacements '}' [* rule(%2, 1*%3) *] ; One simple solution I can think of is create a copy of above rule with STRING replaced by SCALE, but this is just one of the many similar rules which would need such fixing. Furthermore there are many other terminals which can get matched to STRING. So that means way too many rules!

  • Async.Parallel or Array.Parallel.Map ?

    Hello- I'm trying to implement a pattern I read from Don Syme's blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/dsyme/archive/2010/01/09/async-and-parallel-design-patterns-in-f-parallelizing-cpu-and-i-o-computations.aspx) which suggests that there are opportunities for massive performance improvements from leveraging asynchronous I/O. I am currently trying to take a piece of code that "works" one way, using Array.Parallel.Map, and see if I can somehow achieve the same result using Async.Parallel, but I really don't understand Async.Parallel, and cannot get anything to work. I have a piece of code (simplified below to illustrate the point) that successfully retrieves an array of data for one cusip. (A price series, for example) let getStockData cusip = let D = DataProvider() let arr = D.GetPriceSeries(cusip) return arr let data = Array.Parallel.map (fun x -> getStockData x) stockCusips So this approach contructs an array of arrays, by making a connection over the internet to my data vendor for each stock (which could be as many as 3000) and returns me an array of arrays (1 per stock, with a price series for each one). I admittedly don't understand what goes on underneath Array.Parallel.map, but am wondering if this is a scenario where there are resources wasted under the hood, and it actually could be faster using asynchronous I/O? So to test this out, I have attempted to make this function using asyncs, and I think that the function below follows the pattern in Don Syme's article using the URLs, but it won't compile with "let!". let getStockDataAsync cusip = async { let D = DataProvider() let! arr = D.GetData(cusip) return arr } The error I get is: This expression was expected to have type Async<'a but here has type obj It compiles fine with "let" instead of "let!", but I had thought the whole point was that you need the exclamation point in order for the command to run without blocking a thread. So the first question really is, what's wrong with my syntax above, in getStockDataAsync, and then at a higher level, can anyone offer some additional insight about asychronous I/O and whether the scenario I have presented would benefit from it, making it potentially much, much faster than Array.Parallel.map?   • CSS div/overflow Question: Why does the first HTML file work but not the second?

    Notice how the first HTML/CSS works when you re-size the browser horizontally. It will shrink no further than around 800 pixels, but it will expand as far as you drag the right edge of the browser. It will also correctly overflow the table at the top and scroll it horizontally. The thing I don't like about the first code snippet is where the scrollbar is. I want it to show up within the borders of the fieldset, so even if I narrow the browser down to 800 pixels wide, I can see both the left and right sides of the fieldset's border. The second code snippet is exactly the same as the first except I add another div tag to the mix, inside of the field set and around the grid. Notice how the top fieldset's width won't correctly shrink when you make the viewport of your browser narrower. Any ideas on why it doesn't work, what I can do to get it to work like the first code snippet? I don't think I'm describing this clearly, but if you run the two side by side, and expand and contract the horizontal edge of your browser windows, you'll see the differences between the two. I'm pretty new to CSS and HTML layout, so my understanding of why CSS handles sizing the way it does in some situations is still really confusing to me.     To value initialize an object of type T, one would do something along the lines of one of the following: T x = T(); T x((T())); My question concerns types specified by a combination of simple type specifiers, e.g., unsigned int: unsigned int x = unsigned int(); unsigned int x((unsigned int())); Visual C++ 2008 and Intel C++ Compiler 11.1 accept both of these without warnings; Comeau 4.3.10.1b2 and g++ 3.4.5 (which is, admittedly, not particularly recent) do not. According to the C++ standard (C++03 5.2.3/2, expr.type.conv): The expression T(), where T is a simple-type-specifier (7.1.5.2) for a non-array complete object type or the (possibly cv-qualified) void type, creates an rvalue of the specified type, which is value-initialized 7.1.5.2 says, "the simple type specifiers are," and follows with a list that includes unsigned and int. Therefore, given that in 5.2.3/2, "simple-type-specifier" is singular, and unsigned and int are two type specifiers, are the examples above that use unsigned int invalid? (and, if so, the followup is, is it incorrect for Microsoft and Intel to support said expressions?) This question is more out of curiosity than anything else; for all of the types specified by a combination of multiple simple type specifiers, value initialization is equivalent to zero initialization. (This question was prompted by comments in response to this answer to a question about initialization).

  • Regex query: how can I search PDFs for a phrase where words in that phrase appear on more than one l

    I am trying to set up an index page for the weekly magazine I work on. It is to show readers the names of companies mentioned in that weeks' issue, plus the page numbers they are appear on. I want to search all the PDF files for the week, where one PDF = one magazine page (originally made in Adobe InDesign CS3 and Adobe InCopy CS3). I have set up a list of companies I want to search for and, using PowerGREP and using delimited regular expressions, I am able to find most page numbers where a company is mentioned. However, where a company name contains two or more words, the search I am running will not pick up instances where the name appears over more than one line. For example, when looking for "CB Richard Ellis" and "Cushman & Wakefield", I got no result when the text appeared like this: DTZ beat BNP PRE, CB [line break here] Richard Ellis and Cushman & [line break here] Wakefield to secure the contract. [line end here] Could someone advise me on how to write a regular expression that will ignore white space between words and ignore line endings OR one that will look for the words including all types of white space (ie uneven spaces between words; spaces at the end of lines or line endings; and tabs (I am guessing that this info is imbedded somehow in PDF files). Here is a sample of the set of terms I have asked PowerGREP to search for: \bCB Richard Ellis\b \bCB Richard Ellis Hotels\b \bCentaur Services\b \bChapman Herbert\b \bCharities Property Fund\b \bChetwoods Architects\b \bChurch Commissioners\b \bClive Emson\b \bClothworkers’ Company\b \bColliers CRE\b \bCombined English Stores Group\b \bCommercial Estates Group\b \bConnells\b \bCooke & Powell\b \bCordea Savills\b \bCrown Estate\b \bCushman & Wakefield\b \bCWM Retail Property Advisors\b [Note that there is a delimited hard return between each \b at the end of each phrase and beginnong of the next phrase.] By the way, I am a production journalist and not usually involved in finding IT-type solutions and am finding it difficult to get to grips with the technical language on the PowerGREP site.     Hi! I want to execute JavaScript when document is ready without much syntax overhead. The idea is to use Site.Master and ContentPlaceholder: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="OnReadyScript" runat="server" /> }); </script> and in inherited pages just write plain code: <asp:Content ID="Content3" ContentPlaceHolderID="OnReadyScript" runat="server"> $("#Login").focus(); </asp:Content> It works fine but Visual Studio complains and gives warnings. Warning in master page is Expected expression at the line <asp:ContentPlaceHolder. In inherited pages warning is Could not find 'OnReadyScript' in the current master page or pages. I tried using Writer.Write in master page to render script tag and wrapping code: <% Writer.Write(@"<script type=""text/javascript"">$(document).ready(function () {"); %> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="OnReadyScrit" runat="server" /> <% Writer.Write(@"});"); %> but page rendering terminates after opening script tag is rendered. Html basically ends with <script type="text/javascript"> How can I make it work?

    I'm trying to figure out how to use POCO for silverlight use. I found an article that appears it will step me through the basics. However, it has in it a reference to the System.Windows.Ria.Controls. i don't have that on my machine.. i found System.Windows.Ria but not one that has teh control on it. I just downloaded teh RIA beta today and installed it.. so should have the latest and greatest. Anyway..     I have a question of how to sort an anonymous type. Using Linq2SQL I have the following query, which returns a list of submissions: var submissions = EventSubmissions .Where(s => s.EventId.Equals(eventId)); Consider the following interface (somewhat simplyfied): public interface IQuerySorter { IOrderedQueryable Sort(IQueryable query); IOrderedQueryable<T> Sort<T, U>(IQueryable<T> query, Expression<Func<T,U>> selector); ... } Using this interface allows me to implement a number of 'sorters', e.g. on Date, Rating or whether or not a submission has been nominated (for voting). sortedQuery = sorter.Sort(submissions) So far so good. A submission can be made "votable". I get the number of votes a nominated submission may have using the following query: var withVoteCount = submissions .Select(s => new {NumberOfVotes = s.Votes.Count(), Submission = s}); I would like to sort this new query by NumberOfVotes using my "general" sorter class, but run into the problem that the anonymous type/member does not seem to live outside the repository-method, hence I am unable to sort on it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
