    I'm about to design my Web service API, most of the functions of my API is basically very simular to my web application. Now the question is, should I create 1 single method and reuse them for both the web application and the web service api? (This seems to be the logical solution, however its very complicated; it's much easier to duplicate the method used by the web application, and keep both separate, ie one method for the web application and one method for the web service.)   • Problem with extern keyword in C++

    What's the difference between the following two declarations? I thought they were equivalent, but the first sample works, and the second does not. I mean it compiles and runs, but the bitmap display code shows blank. I have not stepped through it yet, but am I missing something obvious? GUI_BITMAP is a simple structure describing a bitmap. This is for VC++ 2005, but I think it fails in VC++ 2008 also. Scratching my head on this one...   • OpenAL causing leaks in my iPhone game. Help appreciated

    Hi, I am integrating OpenAL in my iPhone game from code I found in this post, but the compiler gave me an error on this line of code: unsigned char *outData = malloc(fileSize);, so I changed it to this: unsigned char *outData = (unsigned char*) malloc(fileSize);. This got rid of the compiler errors, but seems to have thrown up two leaks: Malloc 32 Bytes 0x505cb40 AudioToolbox SimAggregateDevice::CreateAggregateDevice(__CFString const*, __CFString const*, unsigned long&) and NSCFDictionary 0x505be30 64 AudioToolbox SimAggregateDevice::CreateAggregateDevice(__CFString const*, __CFString const*, unsigned long&) Is this due to me changing the unsigned char line? I would be very grateful if someone could help me to remove these leaks.

  • Custom QGraphicsItems not compiling and gives "object is private" error

    Hi, I am trying to create a Custom QGraphicsItem button as shown by Fred here. The code which he posted can be found here. The problem is when I try and compile the code I get the following two errors: /usr/include/qt4/QtGui/qgraphicsitem.h ‘QGraphicsItem::QGraphicsItem(const QGraphicsItem&)’ is private /usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qobject.h ‘QObject::QObject(const QObject&)’ is private Here is the code snippet which essentially is the same as that in the sample above. The error is on the class deceleration. class MyButton : public QObject, public QGraphicsItem { Q_OBJECT Q_INTERFACES(QGraphicsItem) public: MyButton(QGraphicsItem *parent = 0); MyButton(const QString normal, const QString pressed = "", QGraphicsItem *parent = 0); .... } Interestingly the other sample as shown here works fine.   • compiling opencv 2.4 on a 64 bit mac in Xcode

    I have an opencv project that I've been developing under ubuntu 12.04, on a parellels VM on a mac which has an x86_64 architecture. There have been many screen switching performance issues that I believe are due to the VM, where linux video modes flip around for a couple seconds while camera access is made by the opencv application. I decided to moved the project into Xcode on the mac side of the computer to continue the opencv development. However, I'm not that familiar with xcode and am having trouble getting the project to build correctly there. I have xcode installed. I downloaded and decompressed the latest version of opencv on the mac, and ran: ~/src/opencv/build/cmake-gui -G Xcode .. per the instructions from willowgarage and various other locations. This appeared to work fine (however I'm wondering now if I'm missing an architecture setting in here, although it is 64-bit intel in Xcode). I then setup an xcode project with the source files from the linux project and changed the include directories to use /opt/local/include/... rather than the /usr/local/include/... I switched xcode to use the LLVM GCC compiler in the build settings for the project then set the Apple LLVM Dialog for C++ to Language Dialect to GNU++11 (which seems possibly inconsistant with the line above) I'm not using a makefile in xcode, (that I'm aware of - it has its own project file...) I was also running into a linker issue that looked like they may be resolved with the addition of this linker flag: -lopencv_video based on a similar posting here: other thread however in that case the person was using a Makefile in their project. I've tried adding this linker flag under "Other Linker Flags" in xcode build settings but still get build errors. I think I may have two issues here, one with the architecture settings when building the opencv libraries with Cmake, and one with the linker flag settings in my project.     I have a website that has a number of URLs that people use to connect to that site (uses the bindings on the IIS website and everything works as intended): http://www.sample.com http://sample.com https://www.sample.com http://xyz.sample.com http://oldurl.com Now what I want to do is have all of the URLs go to https://www.sample.com - so if you type in "http://xyz.sample.com" or "sample.com" you should go to https://www.sample.com The question is what is the best mechanism to do this? I have one possible solution (which I will put as an answer to this question), but I get the feeling that there might be another, better solution available.

  • Visual Studio 2010 shortcut to select word / expression / line / section / method?

    There is a shortcut Ctrl+Shift+W to select the entire word at the current cursor position. Is there a similar shortcut that keeps expanding the selected region every time I apply it? I mean, is there a shortcut which selects the word when applied once (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) and selects the entire line when applied twice in a row and selects the entire block when applied three times etc., i.e. keeps expanding the selected region step by step? I remember seeing such a shortcut, but I don't remember whether it was for Visual Studio or some other editor.

  • Why is execution-time method resolution faster than compile-time resolution?

    At school, we about virtual functions in C++, and how they are resolved (or found, or matched, I don't know what the terminology is -- we're not studying in English) at execution time instead of compile time. The teacher also told us that compile-time resolution is much faster than execution-time (and it would make sense for it to be so). However, a quick experiment would suggest otherwise.   • Java: confirm method Binary division and find remainder is correct?

    I am parsing binary files and have to implement a CRC algorithm to ensure the file is not corrupted. Problem is that I can't seem to get the binary math working when using larger numbers. The example I'm trying to get working: BigInteger G = new BigInteger("11001", 2); BigInteger M = new BigInteger("1110010000", 2); BigInteger R = M.remainder(G); I am expecting: R = "0101" But I am getting: R = "1100" I am assuming the remainder of 0101 is correct since it is given to me in this book I am using as a reference for the CRC algorithm (it's not based in Java), but I can't seem to get it working. I can get small binary calculations to work that I have solved by hand, but not the larger ones. I'll admit that I haven't worked the larger ones by hand yet, that is my next step, but I wanted to see if someone could point out a glaring flaw I have in my code. Can anyone confirm or deny that my methodology is correct? Thanks

I've worked around it, but it would be cleaner if they could just access StackSize like a normal class. Second: The compiler complains that it doesn't use or can't deduce T. Really? Thirdly: The compiler complains that it can't specialize a template in the current scope (class scope). I can't see what the problem is. Have I accidentally invoked some bad syntax?

I wonder what's the best way to expose sets. type TCountry = (countryUnknown,countryNL,countryD,countryB,countryS,countryFIN,countryF,countryE,countryP,countryPl,countryL); TCountrySet = set of TCountry; function GetValidCountrySet(const LicensePlate:string; const PossibleCountriesSet:TCountrySet):TCountrySet; I'm currently wrapping it like this for the soap server: type TCountryArray = array of TCountry; function TVehicleInfo.GetValidCountrySet(const LicensePlate:string; const PossibleCountriesSet:TCountryArray):TCountryArray; It works, but I need to write a lot of useless and ugly code to convert sets--arrays and arrays--sets. Is there an easier, more elegant, or more generic way to do this?

  • Is there a library that can decompile a method into an Expression tree, with support for CLR 4.0?

    Previous questions have asked if it is possible to turn compiled delegates into expression trees, for example: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/767733/converting-a-net-funct-to-a-net-expressionfunct The sane answers at the time were: It's possible, but very hard and there's no standard library solution. Use Reflector! But fortunately there are some greatly-insane/insanely-great people out there who like reverse engineering things, and they make difficult things easy for the rest of us. Clearly it is possible to decompile IL to C#, as Reflector does it, and so you could in principle instead target CLR 4.0 expression trees with support for all statement types. This is interesting because it wouldn't matter if the compiler's built-in special support for Expression<> lambdas is never extended to support building statement expression trees in the compiler. A library solution could fill the gap. We would then have a high-level starting point for writing aspect-like manipulations of code without having to mess with raw IL. As noted in the answers to the above linked question, there are some promising signs but I haven't succeeded in finding if there's been much progress since by searching. So has anyone finished this job, or got very far with it? Note: CLR 4.0 is now released. Time for another look-see.
