• django - where to clean extra whitespace from form field inputs?

  I've just discovered that Django doesn't automatically strip out extra whitespace from form field inputs, and I think I understand the rationale ('frameworks shouldn't be altering user input'). I think I know how to remove the excess whitespace using python's re: #data = re.sub('\A\s+|\s+\Z', '', data) data = data.strip() data = re.sub('\s+', ' ', data) The question is where should I do this? Presumably this should happen in one of the form's clean stages, but which one? Ideally, I would like to clean all my fields of extra whitespace. If it should be done in the clean_field() method, that would mean I would have to have a lot of clean_field() methods that basically do the same thing, which seems like a lot of repetition. If not the form's cleaning stages, then perhaps in the model that the form is based on? Thanks for your help! W.

• Is there a way to automatically grab all the elements on the page using Selenium?

  When creating tests for .Net applications, I can use the White library to find all elements of a given type. I can then write these elements to an Xml file, so they can be referenced and used for GUI tests. This is much faster than manually recording each individual element's info, so I would like to do the same for web applications using Selenium. I haven't been able to find any info on this yet. I would like to be able to search for every element of a given type and save its information (location/XPath, value, and label) so I can write it to a text file later.

• Given a user control with a form containing validation can I validate entirely server side?

  We have an existing User Control that was built to dynamically generate a web form for an end user. This form includes required field validators, custom validators that use server side code and Regular Expression validatiors. We now have a need to use all these validators to verify that all the needed data is entered when using a separate ordering process that cannot be validated in the same way, but has the same validation requirements before it is added to the database. I would like to use this user control to validate the input by passing it all the values and checking the validation summary. The only way I know how to do this is to render it to a page on the client side and trigger the form submit. Is there any way to populate and validate a web form entirely on the server side?

• C# - How to prevent fullscreen form covering the taskbar?

  Hello. Does anyone know how I can prevent my C# winform covering/going on top of the taskbar? My form's border style has been set to "FixedToolWindow" which seems to cause this. I thought about reducing the height of the form, when the user makes the form maximized, but that wouldn't work as people may have different size taskbars. Any ideas? Thanks.

  I have a winform which is responsible for doing a search by some conditions that users enters and then selects the records from a Database. The search form has a data grid view which shows the result. After searching, user clikcs on a row of the datagridview and then another form (for example frmShowDetails) will be displayed. My question is when displaying frmShowDetails, what are your suggestions to send the id of selected row to frmShowDetails in order to feed it to show data in .net? Do you use form property or a private mariable which sets by only form constructor? Thank you

  I want to run a particular block of PHP if the user submits a form. It works if I use a submit button with name="submit" and: <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])) { code to run } ?> I don't know anything about javascript, and I want the code to run if the user changes a dropdown menu. If I make the first line of the dropdown <select name="dropdownname" onchange="this.form.submit()"> the form appears (I haven't tested it) to submit if the user changes the dropdown choice. However, if I do this, the if(isset($_POST['submit'])) PHP code doesn't run. Is there a PHP if statement I can write that will respond to the form being submitted even though it's being submitted by a change in the dropdown and not a submit button?

• Is there a faster way to remove un-referenced controls from a Form's designer file?

  I started looking into the designer file of one of my Forms and noticed that a lot of the old controls I thought I had deleted are still being instantiated but are not actually used on the form. Is there any easy way to clean up these controls from the designer file that are not being used? Right now I've printed out a list of all the private fields at the bottom of the designer file that reference the controls of the form. I'm going down the list one by one trying to determine if the control is actually used or not, and then deleting those that I find are not on the form. The document outline is useful for figuring out what controls are on the form, but this is still a rather tedious process. Does anyone have a better way?

• Integrating Windows Form Click Once Application into SharePoint 2007 &ndash; Part 1 of 2

  Last year, I had the opportunity to build a solution that involved integrating a Windows Form application into a SharePoint 2007 (WSS version 3.0). In this post, I’ll layout our architecture thinking and in part two, I’ll describe the technical details. Business Case Our challenge was this: we needed an easy way for a small group of our users to upload documents, in batches.  They also needed to quickly set the meta data values, as well as set security on individual files. Using the out of the box uploads just didn’t fit.  The single file upload allows set the meta data, but our users would be uploading dozens of files.  The multiple upload would allow our users to upload batches of files, but it doesn’t allow them to set the meta data during upload.  Also, neither upload method allows the users to set the permissions on the file. Our Solution We looked into building a web control of some kind, but ruled that out due to security complexities (if I remember correctly).  Another option would have been using a technology like Silverlight (or Flash?), but our team didn’t have the skills necessary to build with these. So, after looking at what was technically possible, and also what skills our team had, we settled on a Windows Form application.  We also decided to deliver it to the clients via Click Once, so we would have the ability to easily update the application in the future. Lessons Learned After deploying our solution, we’ve learned a few lessons.  First, you’ll need to have the .Net Framework installed on the client computers.  We knew this, but we still ran into issues making sure our users had the proper framework version installed.  Second, we had issues with authentication.  Our issues were due to our testing domain being a separate Active Directory domain from the domain that our end users and their workstations were members of.  (See my earlier post about Clearing Saved Passwords for the fix to our problem). Our third issue was how we dealt with uploading files that were named the same.  Our application would replace the existing file with the new file, which is the way we expected it to work.  However, our users wanted to upload weekly reports, named the same as the previous week.  We solved this by using folders within the document library to keep the sets of reports separate from previous weeks. One last thing to consider before implementing a solution like this, is what browsers and platforms your users will be working from.  We only needed to support IE and Windows, which works fine.  However, if you need to support Firefox, there are add-ons that allow Click Once to work with Firefox.  This is still a Windows only solution though.  In order to support Macs, you’d have to focus on either browser techniques (AJAX?) or Silverlight/Flash. Summary Our users are happy with the Click Once app.  It allowed them to move all of their content to our SharePoint site in under a couple hours, which they were thrilled with.  We’re happy because we can easily deploy updates, our development time was small, and we met all of our business requirements.

• What is a generalized form creator that runs on .NET / Windows?

  At the institution that I'm at, we've been looking for web applications that enable users to create and deploy their own forms. Similar applications are Wufoo, and google forms. Unfortunately, those solutions will not work for us, because we are required to host all data and information on our own servers. I've found a few solutions that are written in PHP, but at this point, it doesn't appear that this is acceptable. I've tried searching for ".net form creator" but unfortunately, when you search for ".net forms" you get a lot of results relating to created asp.net webforms, which is not what we're looking for at all. I've been told that finding a solution that runs on .NET and windows servers with either Oracle or MSSQL databases would be much more acceptable. I've found a few, but they are open source, and the IS Security people are not kind to those solutions, despite my attempts to show otherwise. If anyone knows of some solution out there, I would greatly appreciate you passing on the names of those applications!

• Receive anonymous users' input by web upload form or email. Any online service for that?

  Are you aware of any online service or online "platform" allowing users, not previously registered, to upload pairs of picture+comment to a database? It would be a collaborative database of picture+comment pairs. I'm not going wiki or googlegroup, picasa or such because I'd like the user to have the least to do to participate, that is e.g.: take a picture with his phone and email it to an email to an email address. Or go to a web page with an upload form, type in a description, hit OK and that's it. And the goal is also that it be as hassle-less to put up as possible. Yeah I know, it can't programme itself to my requirements :) by I'm suspecting there's a tool or tool combination going a decent way through my needs. Thanks for any info/advice! • Using jQuery validation plugin with tabbed navigation

• How insert 2 different forms on the same page in Django

• Hard drive mounted at / , duplicate mounted hard drive after using MountManager

  possible duplicate post I'm running 12.04 64bit. My system is a dual boot for both Ubuntu and Windows7. Both operating systems are sharing the drive named "Elements". My volume named "Elements" is a 1TB SATA NTFS hard drive that shows up twice in the side bar in nautilus. One of the icons is functional and even has the convenient "eject" icon next to it. Below is a picture of the left menu in Nautilus, with System Monitor-File Systems tab open on top of it. Can someone advise me about how to get rid of this extra icon? I think the problem is much more deep-rooted than just a GUI glitch on Nautilus' part. The other icon does nothing but spit out the following error when I click on it (image below). This only happened AFTER I tried using Mount Manager to automate mounting the drive at start up. I've already uninstalled Mount Manager, and restarted, but the problem didn't go away. The hard drive does mount automatically now, so I guess that's cool. But now, every time I boot up now and open Nautilus, BOTH of these icons appear, one of which is fictitious and useless. According to the image above and the outputs of several other commands, it appears to be mounted at / In which case, no matter where I am in Nautilus when I try to click on that icon, of course it will tell me that that drive is in use by another program... Nautilus. I'm afraid of trying to unmount this hard drive (sdb6) because of where it appears to be mounted. I'm kind of a noob, and I have this gut feeling that tells me trying to unmount a drive at / will destroy my entire file system. This fear was further strengthened by the output of "$ fsck" at the very bottom of this post. Error immediately below when that 2nd "Elements" hard drive is clicked in Nautilus: Unable to mount Elements Mount is denied because the NTFS volume is already exclusively opened. The volume may be already mounted, or another software may use it which could be identified for example by the help of the 'fuser' command. It's odd to me that that error message above claims that it's an NTFS volume when everything else tell me that it's an ext4 volume. The actual hard drive "Elements" is in fact an NTFS volume. • How do I get Google to crawl my content when it's only displayed when you fill in a form?

  I have a webpage. It has a form and the "results" section is blank. When the user searches for items, and a list that pops up, he/she chooses one option from list and then the corresponding results are displayed in results section. I once decided to log every ip,url of person with time that visits my page. One ip was 66.249.73.26, and on doing google search I came to know it is ip of google bot. link for whatmyipaddress google bot Now when I searched for the links that this ip visited, it was like this: search?id=100 search?id=110 ... search?id=200 ... then afterwards it incremented in steps of 1, like 400,401.. But people search for strings and not numbers. And because googlebot searches for numbers like this, I think the corresponding content is never displayed and so my page content is never indexed, even though it has rich content. So I want to ask you is that in order to show google bot all the content that the webpage has, should I list all the results in index page and ask users to enter string to filter results?

  I am recently working on a project aiming at evaluating whether an android app crashes or not. The evaluation process is 1.Collect the logs(which record the execution process of an app). 2.Generate formulas to predict the result (formulas is generated by GP) 3.Evaluate the logs by formulas Now I can produce formulas, but for convenience for users, I want to translate formulas into form of natural language and tell users why crash happened.(I think it looks like "inverse natural language processing".) To explain the idea more clearly, imagine you got a formula like this: 155 - count(onKeyDown) >= 148 It's obvious that if count(onKeyDown) 7, the result of "155 - count(onKeyDown) = 148" is false, so the log contains more than 7 onKeyDown event would be predicted "Failed". I want to show users that if onKeyDown event appears more than 7 times(155-148=7), this app will crash. However, the real formula is much more complicated, such as: (< !( ( SUM( {Att[17]}, Event[5]) <= MAX( {Att[7]}, Att[0] >= Att[11]) OR SUM( {Att[17]}, Event[5]) > MIN( {Att[12]}, 734 > Att[19]) ) OR count(Event[5]) != 1 ) > (< count(Att[4] = Att[3]) >= count(702 != Att[8]) + 348 / SUM( {Att[13]}, 641 < Att[12]) mod 587 - SUM( {Att[13]}, Att[10] < Att[15]) mod MAX( {Att[13]}, Event[2]) + 384 > count(Event[10]) != 1)) I tried to implement this function by C++, but it's quite difficult, here's the snippet of code I am working right now.   i want to detect clicks on canvas elements which are drawn using paths. so far i have think of to store elements path in javascript data structure and then check the cordinates of hits which matches the elements cordinates. i belive there is algorithm already for thins kind o cordinate search. rendering each of element path and checking the hits would be inefficient when elements number is larger. can anyone point on me that?

• I need a form to tie MySQL Records together.

  I need a HTML-based form to tie database records together. The user scenario that I envision is somthing like this: A super-user does a search of the database and is delivered a table of records based on that search; each record is numbered with the database-record id. There would also be two text fields next to each record. These text fields would allow: the user to make a reference from one record to another. For example, a user could enter into record id #457 the integer 242 to indicate that there is a correlation with record ID #242. The user would also describe the type of relationship it is. This could be accomplished with a simple integer in the second field that indicates the type of relationship between the two records. When the super-user hits the submit button, all of these relationships are saved in a mySqljoin table. One option is to give me advice on how to implement and code this myself in PHP. However, before I reinvent the wheel, another option is to lead me to a free script that does something similar.

• Deploying InfoPath forms &ndash; idiosyncrasies

  Well, I have written a sophisticated PowerShell script to expedite the deployment of InfoPath forms - .XSN file.  Along the way by way of trial and error (mostly error and error), I discovered a few little things. Here they are. •    Regardless of how the install command is run – PowerShell or the GUI in Central Admin – SharePoint enwraps the XSN inside a solution – WSP, then installs and deploys the solution. •    The solution is named by concatenating “form-“ with the first 16 characters (or less if the file name is shorter than 16) of the file name and the required WSP at the end. So if the form name was MyInfopathForm.xsn the solution name will be form-MyInfopathForm.wsp, but for WithdrawalOfRequestsForRefund.xsn it will be named form-WithdrawalOfRequ.wsp •    It only gets worse! Had there already been a solution file with the same name, Microsoft appends a three digit number to the name, like MyInfopathForm-123.wsp. Remember a digit is a finger, I suspect a middle finger, so when you deploy the same form – many versions of it, or as it was in my case – testing a script time and again, you’ll end up with many such digit (middle finger) appended solutions, all un-deployed except the last one. This is not a bug. It’s a feature!   Well, there are ways around it. When by hand, remove the solution from the solution store before deploying the form again. In the script I do the same thing. And finally - an important caveat; Make sure that all your form names are unique in the first 16 characters. If you also have a form with the name forWithdrawalOfRequestForRelief.xsn, you’re in trouble! That’s all folks!
