• Which hosts have low latency across United States and Europe?

  I'm looking for some information on web hosts that have low latency (<100ms) to both the United States and Europe. The host can be in either the United States or Europe. Latency is most important to the United States, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. Should be able to provide managed hosting. Hosting at multiple locations is not what I'm looking for. Answers should contain at least some latency information from multiple locations, preferably from Los Angeles, New York, London, Amsterdam and Oslo. Also some information on your experience with this host is preferred, do not rant, do provide details of your package (with or without SLA, dedicated or VPS etc.). From my own little research I found that probably New York based hosts can offer low latency to all these locations, but I do not have much statistics to back that up other than my own ping is about 85ms to New York from the Netherlands.

• Multisession burn in Imgburn

  Is Multisession burn available in Imgburn? If not, any idea whether it will be implemented in future? I almost recommended Imgburn instead of Nero or Roxio to one of my friend. He requires multisession burning and I found no options to enable it,if available in Options. Note: Please don't question the question. Like, Why would you want multisession anyway? or Isn't USB stick/RW Disk is what you need instead of a RO CD/DVD? Please keep the answers in context. I know that I can use USB sticks instead of CD/DVD and my friend require mulisession anyway. May be I can ask him to keep Nero as a backup for this purpose if Imgburn don't support this.

• nohup or persistent process on Mac OS X ssh

  I know this has been asked before but none of the answers seems to work in OS X mountain lion. I would like to launch a process via SSH and close the terminal without kill the process. nohup ccl64 -e '(ql:quickload :"file")' & doesn't work. When the terminal is closed the process dies nohup ccl64 -e '(ql:quickload :"file")' same here I think there must be a way. this is very annoying as it works as a standard in any linux system yet mac os x refuses to work with any of these combinations. • 32-bit java dominates my PATH magically

  I have a 32-bit Java installed just for Chrome and 64-bit Java JDK for everything else. When I type java -version in the cmd, the 32-bit Java answers: C:\>java -version java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing) This is the 32-bit JRE installed for Chrome (the installer name was chromeinstall.exe). However, I'd like the default Java to be this one: C:\>"Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -version java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) And for the fun part, only the 64-bit one is in PATH! C:\>echo %PATH% C:\Windows\system32;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin (snipped irrelevant entries) So long story short: 64-bit JRE is in PATH, but 32-bit JRE is ran by default. What is happening here? How to fix it? Tried reinstalling the 64-bit JDK as a whole, didn't help.

  I am making a simple matchmaker as a learning project in JAVA. My program so far just asks a few questions, but I wanted to do gender specific questions, so I asked for their sex (m or f) and then attempted to add a message that only showed if sex was m. The dialog should say "well done, you are male!". Else it restarts method. Every time, no matter what I type it restarts the program. • RichEdit VCL and URLs. Workarounds for OnPaint Issues.

  So, issue is with the thing Delphi progies scare to death - Rich Edit in Windows ( XP and pre-XP versions ). Situation: I have added EM_AUTOURLDETECTION in OnCreate of form. Target - RichEdit1. Then, I have form, that is "collapsed" after showing form. RichEdit Control is sattic, visible and enabled, but it is "hidden" because form window is collapsed. I can expand and collapse form, using Button1 and changing forms Constraints and Size properties. After first time I expand form, the URL inside RichEdit1 control is highlighted. BUT - After second, third, fourth, etc... time I Collapse and Expand form, the RichEdit1 Control does not highlight URL anymore. I have tried EM_SETTEXTMODE messages, also WM_UPDATEUISTATE, also basic WM_TEXT message - no luck. It sems like this merssage really works ( enables detection ) while sending keyboard strokes ( virtual keycodes ), but not when text has been modified. Also - I am thinking to rewrite code to make RichEdit Control dynamic. Would this fix the problem? Maybe solution is to override OnPaint / OnDraw method to avoid highlight ( formatting ) losing when collapsing or expanding form? Weird is that my Embarcadero Documentation says this function must work in any moment text has been modified. Why it does not work? Any help appreciated. • Streaming media from linux server - low footprint is crucial

  I recently pre-ordered the Raspberry Pi. http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs For those of you who don't know it, it's a machine with 256 mb ram and a 700 MHz processor for $35. I plan to run linux on an SD card on this machine and have it act as both a htpc, VPN and media server. In regard to the media server part, I need to find some linux software that has a small footprint, but allows me to stream media to other devices connected to the internet (preferably without having to install any additional software on the client machines) Also, I would love if the video could be compressed, so the data usage wouldn't be so big for the client machine (e.g. when I'm using my data plan on my smartphone ;) ) Thanks in advance for any answers :) Mike.

  This is a theoretical problem I am curious about. Websites are hosted on servers. Servers can be taken offline. Is it possible to host a website in the 'ether' of the Internet -- not on a server -- so that it cannot be taken down? One example, is that the website is hosted on other websites, like a parasite. Another is that it is assembled through storing pieces on DNS machines, routers, etc., so that it get assembled on the fly. The purpose is that this website could live forever because no one person can remove it. The answers I am looking for are plausible idea/approaches on technically how this could be built.

• Eclipse and JavaFX? is it just me?

  I'm looking at learning JavaFX. I've tried setting Eclipse to develop a small app and I've downloaded the Eclipse plugin. Eclipse JavaFX plugin BUT... it just seems, well, flakey. So I have 3 questions... 1: Is there a better plugin? 2: Or is there some great set of tutorials out there that I'm missing? 3: finally, is it meant to be easy to call Java code from FX? I'm stuggling, it there a good example somewhere? On questions 1 & 2, Eclipse underlines code in red that just shouln't be. For example.. see this image... Why does it underline bit of imports in red? I know this is little of an open ended question. So I guess my main question is this... Is my experiance of JavaFX and Eclipse the best I can hope for? Or am I missing something ? (and I'm not looking for a Yes/No response) :-) Just looking for a discussion on how best to learn/develop JavaFx.

  Hi, I've been convinced to use windows setup files(msi) for the installation of my new windows forms application after I asked a question here and got some excellent answers (thank you all): http://serverfault.com/questions/97039/net-application-deployment Now i have a different question: My application will need to access a SQL Server to provide users with data, which means that the connection string must be stored in the client's app.config file. How should I handle this? During installation, the user enters the connection string to that database? How they get the connection string? In an email from the admin? What if the admin wants to use SQL authentication and need to put the user info at the connection string? So you know, the app will be sold via the internet, so I don't have any access to the admins or the network. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanced.

• Removed password from Windows 7, now I cannot login using Remote Desktop

  I removed the password from the only account on my Windows 7 computer and now I get the following message when I try to log in. "Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed". I did some research and found out what I should have done (disable the policy to allow blank passwords) but now I'm already logged out and cannot get back in. Does anyone have any suggestions? Update Thanks for all the answers. I actually think the reason I couldn't login with blank password was because I was logging in with Remote Desktop. I had no idea that made a difference, so didn't think it would be relevant to mention. When I went directly on the physical computer, it did not stop me from logging in without a password.

  I'm an SVN user hoping to move to Git. I've been reading documentation and tutorials all day, and I still have unanswered questions. I don't know if this workflow will make sense, but here's my situation, and what I would like to get out of my workflow: Multiple developers, all developing locally on their work stations 3 versions of the website: Dev, Staging, Production Here's my dream: A developer works locally on his own branch, say "developer1", tests on his local machine, and commits his changes. Another developer can pull down those changes into his own branch. Merge developer1 - developer2. When the work is ready to be seen by the public, I'd like to be able to "push" to Dev, Staging, or Production. git push origin staging or maybe.. git merge developer1 staging I'm not sure. Like I said, I'm still new to it. Here are my main questions: -Do my websites (Dev, Staging, Production) have to be repositories? And do they have to be "bare" in order to be the recipients of new changes? -Do I want one repository or many, with several branches? -Does this even make sense, or am I on the wrong path? I've read a lot of tutorials, so I'm really hoping someone can just help me out with my specific situation. Thanks so much!

• Best filesystem choices for NFS storing VMware disk images

  Currently we use an iSCSI SAN as storage for several VMware ESXi servers. I am investigating the use of an NFS target on a Linux server for additional virtual machines. I am also open to the idea of using an alternative operating system (like OpenSolaris) if it will provide significant advantages. What Linux-based filesystem favours very large contiguous files (like VMware's disk images)? Alternatively, how have people found ZFS on OpenSolaris for this kind of workload?   What is it? And what causes it? Is it only for uncorrectable DIMM Errors(Troubleshooting DIMM errors)? When an UCE occurs, the memory controller causes an immediate reboot of the system. During reboot, the BIOS checks the Machine Check registers and determines that the previous reboot was due to an UCE, then reports this in POST after the memtest stage: A Hypertransport Sync Flood occurred on last boot 3 BIOS reports this event in the service processor’s system event log (SEL) as shown in the sample IPMItool output There are what seems to be some suggested answers to include Bad Caps Bios verisons (happens in one version not the other) Graphics card issues Lack of power to the CPU The list of possible generators seems to target everything but the computer case.   Have created a very simple Web Service (asmx) in Visual Studio 2010 Professional, and am trying to use the auto-generated unit test cases. I get something that seems quite familiar on this site: The web site could not be configured correctly; getting ASP.NET process information failed. Requesting http://localhost:81/zfp/VSEnterpriseHelper.axd return an error: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/260432/500-error-running-visual-studio-asp-net-unit-test I have tried: 1. Running the tests on IIS rather than ASP.NET Development Server 2. Adding and then removing the XML fragment to my Web Service's .config file 3. Giving the MACHINE\ASPNET account Full control to the local folder My current questions: 1. Why am I being bothered with this instrumentation / code coverage DLL, when this doesn't seem to be something that ships with Visual Studio 2010 Professional? Is there any way I can turn it off? 2. I'm placing the node under in Web.config - is that the correct node? 3. Is it possible to bind to a web service without using the webby test attributes? I've seen other people advising making the Web Service as light-weight as possible. • Word 2003: Bullet style renamed; is there some way to reverse this?

  I have a machine that seems to have had its bullet style permanently changed - I previously was creating a document which had a question/answer format, where the answers were bullet points, so I created a style for them. The problem is, it seems to have stuck. If you click the "Bullet" button, the paragraph is formatted in the style. I've tried deleting the style in Normal.dot, and even deleting the Normal.dot file in the entirely - neither seems to fix the problem. Anyone have any other bright ideas on how to fix it?

• OpenBSD ftp-proxy behind NAT itself

  Is it possible to change the PASV IP ftp-proxy of OpenBSD sends to clients, without changing the listen address of redirection control (-b <address>)? I have the following setup: FTP client --> 1:1 NAT router --> OpenBSD router --> FTP server The 1:1 NAT router has a NAT rule to forward everything to the OpenBSD router, the OpenBSD router runs the ftp-proxy -R <FTP server IP>. When the FTP client sends the PASV command, the proxy answers with the Entering Passive Mode (227) message with his own source IP on the interface to the 1:1 NAT router (obviously). Since the 1:1 NAT router is not protocol aware, it forwards this message and the client receives the message with the PASV IP of the OpenBSD router, which it does not have a route to. Is there a way, that I can tell ftp-proxy to send the Entering Passive Mode message with a different source IP?

• Accessing multiple local HD's or RAID with ESXi 4.0

  How to I get additional HD's to be recognized and used by ESXi 4.0. When I purchased my system I had two 2TB HD's, but when I installed ESXi it only recognized one of them. I'm happy to get whatever number of drives that I need (I have a four bay SATA in my Dell T310). What are some options? RAID? If so, is it supported. I guess I would need hardware instead of software since ESXi is so small. The VMWare forums (where I've lived for the last two days) are a charlie foxtrot of outdated and conflicting info. I want to utilize my T310, with 32 GB RAM, 2.8GHz quad core to run many lab Windows VM's. I don't need production level availability but I do want decent performance, even though it's in a lab environment. A huge thanks to Jim B., Zypher, Helvick, and Jeff Hengesbach who posted answers to my earlier predecessor question on why ESXi was so sluggish.

  Hi, If I ask GMail to create a filter for a mailing list it creates a rule containing list:mailing-list-identifier, in the case of the NAnt mailing list it wrote: Has the words: list: "nant-users.lists.sourceforge.net" Is there a way to filter any mailing list? I would like to filter conversations from any mailing list containing answers to things I've previously asked (or answered to). Part of that filter is identifying "anything which is part of a mailing list" and I'm wondering if there is a better way than adding another label to all mailing list posts (which is cumbersome).

• Devise routes to only use custom sign in page

  I am trying to learn Devise and seem to have hit a problem that is nearly the same as many, many questions here on SO but just slightly different enough that I am not getting much traction following those questions' threads. I have a very simple application. Users can sign in and sign out (and also the devise 'forgot password' stuff is enabled - I am not concerned about it at this time) and that is it. They can't register, they can't edit their profile other than to change their password, they can't do anything except sign in and sign out. (Account creation will, for now, be handled manually at the command line.) I would vastly prefer that the only page that users can log in from was "/" (root_path). I already have it working where you can log in from "/", and that is great. The problem I am having is that if you type in your user/password combination incorrectly from the root_path login page, it automatically sends you to the Devise sign-in page to continue trying to sign in. How can I make Devise redirect to root_path on sign-in failure? Here are my routes - they are probably not optimal or correctly configured and I would appreciate pointers on fixing them: root to: "core_pages#splash" devise_for :users, skip: [:sessions] as :user do # get 'signin' => 'devise/sessions#new', as: :new_user_session post 'signin' => 'devise/sessions#create', as: :user_session delete 'signout' => 'devise/sessions#destroy', as: :destroy_user_session, via: Devise.mappings[:user].sign_out_via end match '/home' => 'core_pages#home' Note the commented-out 'get signin' line. The system works without this line but, surprisingly (to me), "GET /signin" results in a HTTP 400 (OK) response and renders the Devise login template. I would prefer it return some sort of 'invalid request' or just silently redirect the user to root_path. • Foreign key not working in MySQL: Why can I INSERT a value that's not in the foreign column?

  I've created a table in MySQL: CREATE TABLE actions ( A_id int NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, type ENUM('rate','report','submit','edit','delete') NOT NULL, Q_id int NOT NULL, U_id int NOT NULL, date DATE NOT NULL, time TIME NOT NULL, rate tinyint(1), PRIMARY KEY (A_id), CONSTRAINT fk_Question FOREIGN KEY (Q_id) REFERENCES questions(P_id), CONSTRAINT fk_User FOREIGN KEY (U_id) REFERENCES users(P_id)); This created the table I wanted just fine (although a "DESCRIBE actions;" command showed me that the foreign keys were keys of type MUL, and I'm not sure what this means). However, when I try to enter a Q_id or a U_id that does not exist in the questions or users tables, MySQL still allows these values. What did I do wrong? How can I prevent a table with a foreign key from accepting invalid data? If I add TYPE=InnoDB to the end, I get an error: ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table './quotes/actions.frm' (errno: 150) Why might that happen? I'm told that it's important to enforce data integrity with functional foreign keys, but also that InnoDB should not be used with MySQL. What do you recommend?

• Fabric and cygwin don't work with windows UNC paths

  I have some strange problems with fabric deployment to Windows Server 2008r2. The thing I try to accomplish is to copy some files to a shared folder with a fabric script (this script does a lot of other things too, but only this step gives me problems). This is the problem: When I try to access a UNC(Universal Naming convention) path I always get access denied kind of answers if I run the script in fabric. When I run the command in an ssh prompt (same user) it works fine. Examples: cmd: robocopy f:/.... //share result: in ssh this works fine, in fabric I get "Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type aat this computer." cmd: cd //share result: in ssh this works fine, in fabric I get "//share: Not a directory" Further information: uname -a and whoami return exact the same thing in fabric and ssh. I also tried things like mount, net use, but these commands all have kind of the same problem.
