• On Linux do people chroot a Java Web Application or use IPTables and run as non-root?

  When you run a Java Servlet Container that you would like to serve both static and dynamic content on port 80 you have the classic question of whether to run the server as: As root in hopefully a chroot jail if you can (haven't gotten this working yet) As a non root user and then use IPTables to forward port 80 to some other port (1024) that the container is running on Both: As a non root user, IPTables, and chroot jail. The problem with opt. 1 is the complexity of chrooting and still the security problems of running root.The problem with opt. 2 is that each Linux distro has a different way of persisting IPTables. Option 3 of course is probably idea but very hard to setup. Finally every distro has the annoying differences in daemon scripts. What do people find as the best distro agnostic solution and are there resources to show how to do this?

• How to JNDI lookup from cluster 1 : a queue that exists in cluster 2 in Websphere 6?

  I have a Websphere topology wherein in Cluster1, I have an MDB that's trying to publish to another MDB that resides in Cluster2. Since they're both in the same container, I tried simply Blockquote Context ctx = new InitialContext(); ctx.lookup("jms/MyQueue"); Blockquote The "jms/MyQueue" is configured in Cluster2. As you can see, this doesn't work!! 1) Do I have to provide an environment entry while creating the InitialContext? Even though both clusters are part of the same container? 2) If not, how then can I lookup the said queue in Cluster 2?

• Why is my regex so much slower compiled than interpreted ?

  I have a large and complex C# regex that runs OK when interpreted, but is a bit slow. I'm trying to speed this up by setting RegexOptions.Compiled, and this seems to take about 30 seconds for the first time and instantly after that. I'm trying to negate this by compiling the regex to an assembly first, so my app can be as fast as possible. My problem is when the compiling delay takes place: Regex myComplexRegex = new Regex(regexText, RegexOptions.Compiled); MatchCollection matches = myComplexRegex.Matches(searchText); foreach (Match match in matches) // <--- when the one-time long delay kicks in { } This is making compiling to an assembly basically useless, as I still get the delay on the first foreach call. What I want is for all the compiling delay to be done in advance when I compile to the assembly, not when the user runs the app. Where am I going wrong ? (The code I'm using to compile to an assembly is similar to http://www.dijksterhuis.org/regular-expressions-advanced/ , if that's relevant ).

  My code can see the NonPublic members, but not the Public ones. (???) Full sample code below. • Deleted nib still displayed when controller is pushed

  I have an application with a UINavcontroller under a tab bar controller. To create the navigation model I want, I push a container UIView object onto the stack to manage additional views(Thanks Frank). When I created the container class, an associated nib file was created along with it. I at first used that nib file, but it turned out it was better not to. So I deleted the nib (and selected 'also move to trash'). The problem is that it still shows up when I push its view controller onto the stack. I have tried emptying the cache in xcode and restarting xcode. What am I missing?

• AllowSetForegroundWindow & SetForegroundWindow: NPAPI plug-in wants to allow a desktop application with no success

  Here it's what I have: a web browser plug-in written in C++ and a Windows application written in C#. They communicate through a named pipe. The plug-in instructs the C# application to open a file (suppose that the file is a .txt and it opens in Notepad). Once the C# application is given the command, it opens the file but Notepad doesn't show in the foreground, which isn't acceptable, I must open Notepad in the foreground. I modified the C# application so that it calls the SetForegroundWindow function. This time Notepad didn't open in the foreground, but the taskbar flashes. After reading the documentation for SetForegroundWindow and many articles I think that now I understand what the problem is: the C# application can't bring Notepad to the foreground because it wasn't the the foreground process, the browser was (?). After reading this: "A process that can set the foreground window can enable another process to set the foreground window by calling the AllowSetForegroundWindow function." I decided to modify the plug-in. This time the plug-in calls the AllowSetForegroundWindow function passing ASFW_ANY as a parameter (I know, ASFW_ANY could be risky, but I wanted to make sure that AllowSetForegroundWindow would do it). After I did the modification to the plug-in I tested it and it worked! (Opera 12.02). Then I tested it on Internet Explorer and it worked too. But the problem came when I tested it in Firefox and Chrome. The C# application didn't have the ability to bring Notepad to the foreground. I noticed that for those browsers the AllowSetForegroundWindow function was returning false. So I started investigating and I come to the conclusion that maybe it's because the plugin container that Firefox uses. An idea came to my mind: it worked in Opera 12.02, but they don't have a plugin container, although they did in Opera 12.00. So I downloaded Opera 12.00, I did the test and it failed, which makes me conclude that the plugin container is the culprit. The question is: how can I give to the C# application the ability to set foreground? I don't know how to continue, and I think that I tried all the legitimate ways. The AllowSetForegroundWindow & SetForegroundWindow seems to not apply here.

• Entity Framework: Attached Entities not Saving

However, if I use SQL Profiler I see no UPDATE or INSERT queries coming in, and as a result none of my attached objects are being saved.

  I'm wanting to store items in my database with a DATE value for a certain day. I don't know how to get the current Monday, or Tuesday, etc. from the current week. Here is my current database setup. menuentry id int(10) PK menu_item_id int(10) FK day_of_week date message varchar(255) So I have a class setup that holds all the info then I was going to do something like this... foreach ( $menuEntryArray as $item ) { if ( $item->getDate() == [DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE] ) { // code to display menu_item information } } So I'm just unsure what to put in "[DONT KNOW WHAT TO PUT HERE]" to compare to see if the date is specified for this week's Monday, or Tuesday, etc. The foreach above runs for each day of the week - so it'll look like this... It should have been more like: Can I have STL containers of a base type stored by-value in which the elements exhibit polymorphic behavior? If you are asking the question in terms of C++, the answer is "no." At some point, you will slice objects stored by-value. Now I ask the question again, but strictly in terms of C++11. With the changes to the language and the standard libraries, is it now possible to store polymorphic objects by value in an STL container? I'm well aware of the possibility of storing a smart pointer to the base class in the container -- this is not what I'm looking for, as I'm trying to construct objects on the stack without using new. • How to read & write contents of a div from localstorage in chrome extensions?

  I am trying to build an extension that will allow users to put some parameters into a text box in the popup, generate a link using that information and add it to the said popup. I have all that working, but needless to say, it gets flushed every time the user opens the extension anew. I'd like the info that has been put in there to stay, but can't seem to get it to work. What is the proper format to add the comment.id into the table rows? I need the ID from both tables for display, edit and delete further on in the table.
