    If I load the My.Settings object (app.config) into a PropertyGrid, I am able to edit the property inside the propertygrid and the change is automatically saved. PropertyGrid1.SelectedObject = My.Settings I want to do the same with a Custom Configuration Section. Following this code example (from here http://www.codeproject.com/KB/vb/SerializePropertyGrid.aspx), he is doing explicit serialization to disk when a "Save" button is pushed.   • How to best design a date/geographic proximity query on GAE?

    Hi all, I'm building a directory for finding athletic tournaments on GAE with web2py and a Flex front end. The user selects a location, a radius, and a maximum date from a set of choices. I have a basic version of this query implemented, but it's inefficient and slow. One way I know I can improve it is by condensing the many individual queries I'm using to assemble the objects into bulk queries. I just learned that was possible. But I'm also thinking about a more extensive redesign that utilizes memcache. The main problem is that I can't query the datastore by location because GAE won't allow multiple numerical comparison statements (<,<=,=,) in one query. I'm already using one for date, and I'd need TWO to check both latitude and longitude, so it's a no go. Currently, my algorithm looks like this: 1.) Query by date and select 2.) Use destination function from geopy's distance module to find the max and min latitude and longitudes for supplied distance 3.) Loop through results and remove all with lat/lng outside max/min 4.) Loop through again and use distance function to check exact distance, because step 2 will include some areas outside the radius. Remove results outside supplied distance (is this 2/3/4 combination inefficent?) 5.) Assemble many-to-many lists and attach to objects (this is where I need to switch to bulk operations) 6.) Return to client Here's my plan for using memcache.. let me know if I'm way out in left field on this as I have no prior experience with memcache or server caching in general. -Keep a list in the cache filled with "geo objects" that represent all my data. These have five properties: latitude, longitude, event_id, event_type (in anticipation of expanding beyond tournaments), and start_date. This list will be sorted by date. -Also keep a dict of pointers in the cache which represent the start and end indices in the cache for all the date ranges my app uses (next week, 2 weeks, month, 3 months, 6 months, year, 2 years). -Have a scheduled task that updates the pointers daily at 12am. -Add new inserts to the cache as well as the datastore; update pointers. Using this design, the algorithm would now look like: 1.) Use pointers to slice off appropriate chunk of list based on supplied date. 2-4.) Same as above algorithm, except with geo objects 5.) Use bulk operation to select full tournaments using remaining geo objects' event_ids 6.) Assemble many-to-manys 7.) Return to client Thoughts on this approach?   • deploy a sinatra app with passenger gives only 404, page not founds. Yet a simple rack app works.

    I have correctly (or prbably not) installed passenger on apache 2. Rack works, but sinatra keeps giving 404's. Here is what works: config.ru: #app = proc do |env| return [200, { "Content-Type" => "text/html" }, "hello <b>world</b>"] end run app Here is what works too: Running the app.rb (see below) with ruby app.rb and then looking at localhost:4567/about and / restarting the app, gives me a correct hello world. w00t. But then there is the sinatra entering the building: config.ru require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' root_dir = File.dirname(__FILE__) set :environment, ENV['RACK_ENV'].to_sym set :root, root_dir set :app_file, File.join(root_dir, 'app.rb') disable :run run Sinatra::Application and an app.rb require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' get '/' do "Hallo wereld!" end get '/about' do "Hello world, it's #{Time.now} at the server!" end This keeps giving 404s. /var/logs/apache2/error.log lists these correctly as "404" with something that worries me: 83.XXXXXXXXX - - [30/May/2010 16:06:52] "GET /about " 404 18 0.0007 83.XXXXXXXXX - - [30/May/2010 16:06:56] "GET / " 404 18 0.0007 The thing that worried me, is the space after the / and the /about. Would apache or sinatra go looking for /[space], like /%20? If anyone knows what this problem relates to, maybe a known bug (that I could not find) or a known gotcha? Maybe I am just being stupid and getting "it all wrong?" Otherwise any hints on where to get, read or log more developers data on a running rack, sinatra or passenger app would be helpfull too: to see what sinatra is looking for, for example.     Hi, I'm trying to build my application for GoogleAppEngine using maven.     Hello, I have designed a trading application that handles customers stocks investment portfolio. I am using two datastore kinds: Stocks - Contains unique stock name and its daily percent change. UserTransactions - Contains information regarding a specific purchase of a stock made by a user : the value of the purchase along with a reference to Stock for the current purchase. db.Model python modules: class Stocks (db.Model): stockname = db.StringProperty(multiline=True) dailyPercentChange=db.FloatProperty(default=1.0) class UserTransactions (db.Model): buyer = db.UserProperty() value=db.FloatProperty() stockref = db.ReferenceProperty(Stocks) Once an hour I need to update the database: update the daily percent change in Stocks and then update the value of all entities in UserTransactions that refer to that stock. In the dashboard, I see that the task.py takes around 65% of the CPU (Stock.py takes around 20%-30%) and I am using almost all of the 6.5 free CPU hours given to me by app engine. I have no problem to enable billing and pay for additional CPU, but the problem is the scaling of the system… Using 6.5 CPU hours for 100 stocks is very poor. I was wondering, given the requirements of the system as mentioned above, if there is a better and more efficient implementation (or just a small change that can help with the current implemntation) than the one presented here.     I was going to CSV based export/import for large data with app engine. My idea was just simple. First column of CSV would be key of entity. If it's not empty, that row means existing entity and should overwrite old one. Else, that row is new entity and should create new one.   • Sessions not persisting between requests

    My session objects are only stored within the request scope on google app engine and I can't figure out how to persist objects between requests. The docs are next to useless on this matter and I can't find anyone who's experienced a similar problem. Please help. When I store session objects in the servlet and forward the request to a JSP using: getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/example.jsp").forward(request,response); Everything works like it should. But when I store objects to the session and redirect the request using: response.sendRedirect("/example/url"); The session objects are lost to the ether. In fact when I dump session key/value pairs on new requests there is absolutely nothing, session objects only appear within the request scope of servlets which create session objects. It appears to me that the objects are not being written to Memcache or Datastore. In terms of configuring sessions for my application I have set <sessions-enabled>true</sessions-enabled> In appengine-web.xml. Is there anything else I am missing? The single paragraph of documentation on sessions also notes that only objects which implement Serializable can be stored in the session between requests. I have included an example of the code which is not working below. The obvious solution is to not use redirects, and this might be ok for the example given below but some application data does need to be stored in the session between requests so I need to find a solution to this problem.   • On android how would I go about creating a prompt for an app that requires a user to enter a username before fully launching the app?

    I'll preface this with I'm really new to working on Android. So I have to work on an existing app and create a screen that prompts the user for a username if one isn't entered then it won't launch the currently existing main activity (i.e. it won't fully launch the app. Instead it will just sit on that screen until a username is entered.) I suppose that it's tantamount to a web app login page in that it will not let a user past that page if the user is not authenticated and authorized. However, there's no authentication nor authorization in this app. Instead, on first run a user must simply register with a username and that username gets saved to the database and for any subsequent runs the app's main activity will just start because a user has registered to that phone. In fact, the app will not prompt the user for their name again unless the app gets deleted with all its data and reinstalled again. This implicitly means that I have to save the user's name in the database or some other kind of storage. So I was wondering what would be the best way of doing this in an app with an existing main activity? Should I try to accomplish this on that existing main activity or create a new activity to display this prompt screen and, in effect, block the main activity from running until the user enters their name? Any tutorials or links would be helpful and thank you in advance for any help.

Specifically can it respond with a 4XX code for mail claiming to be from a domain without a valid MX or A record (similar to postfix's smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain). If so, how do I set it? (I realize it's probably something simple I've overlooked.) The barracuda can resolve using its configured name servers. The name servers can correctly resolve external domains.

  • Ping issues with Windows Server 2008 R2 with mail server!

    For some reason I can ping all servers in my network except for the mail server and the mail server can ping all servers except the windows server 2008 R2. The firewall has been disabled and still it doesn't respond. The weird part is that every once in a while it will all of a sudden start allowing pings and then just as suddenly stop allowing pings. I've made sure there's no type-o's in the ip address or subnet mask or gateway. Any other ideas?

Here are the steps to reproduce: Open Visual Studio 2010 Create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 project called MvcApplication1 Shift+F5 to run the app. You should see http://localhost:{random_port}/ and the page will render correctly. Click on MvcApplication1, and select "Properties". Go to the "Web" section. Select "Use Local IIS Web server" and create a virtual directory. Save. Shift+F5 to run the app. You should see http://localhost/MvcApplication1/ and an IIS error HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.. It's clear that for whatever reason, ASP.NET routing is not working correctly. Things I've already thought of and tried: Verified that all IIS features are enabled in "Turn Windows features on or off". Verified that the default website is configured to use .NET 4.0 Reassigned ASP.NET v4 scripmaps via aspnet_regiis -i in the v4.0.30319 directory. Here's the most amazing part - this is on a just-built machine. New copy of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, clean install of Visual Studio 2010 Premium, no other websites and no other work performed. Anything else I can try?

My (iPhone) app does lots of PDF loading and rendering, some of it threaded. The data provider and the document are already retained by the create-functions.   • xcode linker error on iPhone app (Only on simulator)

    Im getting this linker error that won't let me compile. It only happens on the simulator. KEY POINTS: - Happens only in simulator - Similar to THIS question, but found no FRAMEWORK_SEARCH_PATHS in my .pbxproj file - Though my OS is 10.6.2, I had to build target 1.5 to avoid other linker errors - libxml2.dylib IS required and is in my Frameworks group - The other cited libraries I have never heard of. - Tried bringing in those other Libs under frameworks, didn't solve.
