  • Java JRE: Setting default heap size

    I'm having trouble with Java on a virtual server, it always gives me the following error: # java Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I first solved this by using the CACAO virtual machine (of OpenJDK, by putting it first in jvm.cfg), but then I run into problems with my web application (Play! framework based, gives me nasty LinkageErrors). So I cannot use that VM. Instead I'd like to just use the normal server VM and set -Xmx128M by default. How can I do that? Related: this question

  • PhpMyAdmin Hangs On MySQL Error

    I'm currently running PhpMyAdmin 4.0.10 (the latest version supporting PHP 4.2.X) on my Amazon EC2 connecting to a MySQL database on RDS. Everything works perfectly fine except actions that return a mysql error message. Whether I perform "any" kind of action that will return a mysql error, Phpmyadmin will hang with the yellow "Loading" box forever without displaying anything. For example, if I perform the following command in MySQL CLI : select * from 123; It instantly returns the following error : ERROR 1064 (42000): You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '123' at line 1 which is completely normal because table 123 doesn't exist. However, if I execute the exact same command in the "SQL" box in Phpmyadmin, after I click "Go" it'll display "Loading" and stops there forever. Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue with Phpmyadmin? Is this a bug or I have something wrong with my config.inc.php? Any help would be much appreciated.   • Apache2 Worker Starting Tons of Processes

    I am installed apache2-mpm-worker and left all config files default (I've never touched them much). Is it normal that when I restart apache there is at least 20 apache processes starting? Shouldn't it be just 2 like it says in the configuration? Also, my memory seems to grow very quickly until my machine crashes. I don't have any mods installed.

  • I keep getting blue screen - Windows 7 x64 (maybe ram?)

    I have +- 5yrs old pc runnig windows 7 and I've been getting blue screen recently. I had win 8 and I got a lof of erros with ram memory, so I reinstalled back to Win 7. (I have 2x 2 GB RAM) To make a better image of my errors - I get them while writing email, installing nvidia driver, sound driver, running RAM test. I got a log of my last error, could anyone tell me what is it? Should I get new RAM memories?   • Unauthorized access error to html pages in IIS 7.0

    I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 + IIS 7.0. I have created a new web site and put an html file into the directory. And when I use browse function in IIS manager to browse the html file, I met with the following error, any ideas what is wrong? BTW: I am very confused about unauthorized error since I run the worker process under administrator account.   • Typing in web forms lagging - output very slow!

    Hi all, Just recently, typing in forms on the internet has become rediculously slow. I'm on an oldish PC with low memory (1gb) and amd athlon XP 2800+ (2.08 ghz) and get an awesome 1.0 rating from windows :) Thing is though - it only just started happening. Was fine last week. Also, It doesn't only happen when heaps of other processes are open/running. I can have only one IE window up, after fresh reboot, and still happens. Any ideas why?

  • Firefox needs 1GB of RAM

    I work as a webdeveloper and for that I'm using firefox with firebug. I have noticed in the last time that after 2 hours of work, the firefox.exe process needed more than 1 GB of my working memory! Even if I close the window, the process still remains in the taskmanager and the only thing I can do is to 'kill' the process. Any suggestions? I'm using Windows7 with 2GB RAM, FF 3.6.8 y normally i have opened 10 tabs.

    I have an embedded Geode-based application server with 512MB RAM and I'm about to try to maximize free memory during applications workload, which uses MySQL database 5.5 with InnoDB quite aggressively. As part of the whole optimization I'd want to introduce echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches sleep 5 echo 0 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches in crontab. How often is it safe to execute something like this? Any other observation/suggestion is welcome.

    I received a recommendation from my hosting provider noting that a general rule in production server management is to ensure that the memory on your database server is larger than the size of your total database. Our database is 1800mb (and growing) and we're being told to purchase a 2GB server. This didn't sit right with me, but I'm not an expert in production server management. We're running a MySQL db with mostly InnoDB tables and some MyISAMs. Thanks!

  • window 7 hardware reserved ram

    Hi, I have Windows 7 64bit, 8gb ram and 1152mb is hardware reserved which leaves me with 7039mb of physical memory available as I can see on the task manager. What is the advantage or disadvantage of keeping it this way? If I disable it from the MSCONFIG, the hardware reserved comes down to 1mb. Well, which way I should keep it for best performance in all meanings considering that nowdays, 8gb is still a lot. Could someone explain the easy way please?

  • Apache timeouts and error log

    I have an error whenever I run my code for a certain time. I use a lot of loops and sql connections. I basically, put and take out links from my database. The problem is that there is some error thrown that I cant see, whenever I execute a long sql operation .. Note that the fault isnt the code. The code runs well, whenever there are a few links involved. But when there are over 200 links.. an error is thrown that I cants see. I tried to trace the error in a few places: C:\Program Files\Zend\ZendServer\logs\php_error.log C:\Program Files\Zend\phpMyAdmin\config.inc.php Edit Viewer in win xp I am running XP: Windows xp php version: 5.3.9-ZS5.6.0. Apache/2.2.21 Apacher version: (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/0.9.8o I cant trace the error at all, and why it happens. All I can suspect of, is that there is a server timeout..

    I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 in my computer with an Atheros AR5007 wireless card. I want to use Kismet but when I run it it starts displaying the message: ERROR: Packet source 'wlan0' failed to set channel X: mac80211_setchannel() It keeps displaying the same for every channel except channel 1. I have installed the compat-wireless-3.6.6-1 drivers and patched them with the following patch in order to use them with aircrack-ng. I have installed the latest version of Kismet in the git repository and I even tried with the svn but it keeps displaying the same error. I also have set the kismet.conf file with the nsource=wlan0 as it is the name of my wireless interface according to iwconfig : lo no wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"XXXX" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX Bit Rate=18 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off Link Quality=28/70 Signal level=-82 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:282 Missed beacon:0 I haven't found any answer since similar errors are supposed to be fixed with the latest Kismet release but this isn't my case.   • xvidcap: Error accessing sound input from /dev/dsp

    I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and I'm trying xvidcap to record a screencast with audio from the microphone, however it can't record any sound: $ xvidcap --file appo.avi --cap_geometry 700x500-0+0 Error accessing sound input from /dev/dsp Sound disabled! Sure enough /dev/dsp doesn't even exist: $ sudo ls -lh /dev/dsp ls: cannot access /dev/dsp: No such file or directory I found a blog post about fixing xvidcap sound input, however if I try the suggestion I get: $ sudo modprobe snd-pcm-oss FATAL: Module snd_pcm_oss not found. So the question is, how can I create /dev/dsp? The problem behind the problem is: how can I record sound from the microphone with xvidcap? So workarounds are welcome too. UPDATE: I've followed the suggestion of James, and something has improved. The error accessing /dev/dsp is gone, however now I get: [oss @ 0x8e0c120] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate xtoffmpeg.c add_audio_stream(): Can't initialize fifo for audio recording Now when I record xvidcap appears in the recording tab of pavucontrol and I can choose Audio stream from Internal Audio Analog Stereo or Monitor of Internal Audio Analog Stereo, I tried both just in case, but the video is still mute. UPDATE 2: I found that "Monitor of" is the one to record application sounds, while for microphone, I should choose "Internal Audio Analog Stereo". To rule out other problems, such as with the microphone, I tried with gnome-sound-recorder and it works. Actually I jumped on my chair, since the volume was too high! :-)

  • Sucky MSTest and the "WaitAll for multiple handles on a STA thread is not supported" Error

    If you are doing any multi-threading and are using MSTest, you will probably run across this error. For some reason, MSTest by default runs in STA threading mode. WTF, Microsoft! Why so stuck in the old COM world?  When I run the same test using NUnit, I don't have this problem. Unfortunately, my company has chosen MSTest, so I have a lot of testing problems. NUnit is so much better, IMO. After determining that I wasn't referencing any unmanaged code that would flip the thread into STA, which can also cause this error, the only thing left was the testing suite I was using. I dug around a little and found this obscure setting for the Test Run Config settings file that you can't set using its interface. You have to open it up as a text file and add the following setting:  <ExecutionThread apartmentState="MTA" /> This didn't break any other tests, so I'm not sure why it's not the default, or why there is nothing in the test run configuration app to change this setting.   • Wubi doens't work anymore - shows 'No wubildr' error

    Basics: HP Mini 311 Ubuntu netbook edition 10.04 (installed via Wubi) Symptoms: I load to Windows Boot Manager as usual. Options are Windows 7 and Ubuntu Netbook, like usual. Selecting Windows 7 does as it should. Loading Ubuntu Netbook, though, does not take me to the usual screen where it lets me select versions of Ubuntu (sorry for bad wording, not sure what the real name is called; it's where you select from about 6 items; I always picked the first due to lack of knowledge without issue). Instead it flashes an error in white on a black screen then restarts very quickly. It took me a few restarts, but here is the error: Try (hd0,0): NTSF5 No wubildr Try (hd0,1): NTSF5: Situation: I have no clue what caused it. The only thing I did last night on Ubuntu was install Skype, but the mic didn't work instantly so I got lazy and switched to Windows 7 and used Skype on there. When I tried to switch back to Ubuntu it began this. (There may be something I forget... it was 5 in the morning). There were no recent updates that I remember. No weird activity. Just... random. Help please?

    Hi I was trying to run Windows XP under Virtual Box (host system Ubuntu 10.04) and I've got an error message saying: Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Re-setup the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. This is terminal output: maria@maria-laptop:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup * Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules * done. * Uninstalling old VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules * done. * Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS * Failed, trying without DKMS * Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules * done. * Starting VirtualBox kernel modules * done.
