  • iPhone SDK vs Windows Phone 7 Series SDK Challenge, Part 1: Hello World!

In this series, I will be taking sample applications from the iPhone SDK and implementing them on Windows Phone 7 Series.  My goal is to do as much of an apples-to-apples comparison as I can.  This series will be written to not only compare and contrast how easy or difficult it is to complete tasks on either platform, how many lines of code, etc., but Id also like it to be a way for iPhone developers to either get started on Windows Phone 7 Series development, or for developers in general to learn the platform. Heres my methodology: Run the iPhone SDK app in the iPhone Simulator to get a feel for what it does and how it works, without looking at the implementation Implement the equivalent functionality on Windows Phone 7 Series using Silverlight. Compare the two implementations based on complexity, functionality, lines of code, number of files, etc. Add some functionality to the Windows Phone 7 Series app that shows off a way to make the scenario more interesting or leverages an aspect of the platform, or uses a better design pattern to implement the functionality. You can download Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone CTP here, and the Expression Blend 4 Beta here. Hello World! Of course no first post would be allowed if it didnt focus on the hello world scenario.  The iPhone SDK follows that tradition with the Your First iPhone Application walkthrough.  I will say that the developer documentation for iPhone is pretty good.  There are plenty of walkthoughs and they break things down into nicely sized steps and do a good job of bringing the user along.  As expected, this application is quite simple.  It comprises of a text box, a label, and a button.  When you push the button, the label changes to Hello plus the  word you typed into the text box.  Makes perfect sense for a starter application.  Theres not much to this but it covers a few basic elements: Laying out basic UI Handling user input Hooking up events Formatting text     So, lets get started building a similar app for Windows Phone 7 Series! Implementing the UI: UI in Silverlight (and therefore Windows Phone 7) is defined in XAML, which is a declarative XML language also used by WPF on the desktop.  For anyone thats familiar with similar types of markup, its relatively straightforward to learn, but has a lot of power in it once you get it figured out.  Well talk more about that. This UI is very simple.  When I look at this, I note a couple of things: Elements are arranged vertically They are all centered So, lets create our Application and then start with the UI.  Once you have the the VS 2010 Express for Windows Phone tool running, create a new Windows Phone Project, and call it Hello World: Once created, youll see the designer on one side and your XAML on the other: Now, we can create our UI in one of three ways: Use the designer in Visual Studio to drag and drop the components Use the designer in Expression Blend 4 to drag and drop the components Enter the XAML by hand in either of the above Well start with (1), then kind of move to (3) just for instructional value. To develop this UI in the designer: First, delete all of the markup between inside of the Grid element (LayoutRoot).  You should be left with just this XAML for your MainPage.xaml (i shortened all the xmlns declarations below for brevity): 1: <phoneNavigation:PhoneApplicationPage 2: x:Class="HelloWorld.MainPage" 3: xmlns="...[snip]" 4: FontFamily="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilyNormal}" 5: FontSize="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeNormal}" 6: Foreground="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}"> 7:   8: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="{StaticResource PhoneBackgroundBrush}"> 9:   10: </Grid> 11:   12: </phoneNavigation:PhoneApplicationPage> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; }   Well be adding XAML at line 9, so thats the important part. Now, Click on the center area of the phone surface Open the Toolbox and double click StackPanel Double click TextBox Double click TextBlock Double click Button That will create the necessary UI elements but they wont be arranged quite right.  Well fix it in a second.    Heres the XAML that we end up with: 1: <StackPanel Height="100" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="10,10,0,0" Name="stackPanel1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="200"> 2: <TextBox Height="32" Name="textBox1" Text="TextBox" Width="100" /> 3: <TextBlock Height="23" Name="textBlock1" Text="TextBlock" /> 4: <Button Content="Button" Height="70" Name="button1" Width="160" /> 5: </StackPanel> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } The designer does its best at guessing what we want, but in this case we want things to be a bit simpler. So well just clean it up a bit.  We want the items to be centered and we want them to have a little bit of a margin on either side, so heres what we end up with.  Ive also made it match the values and style from the iPhone app: 1: <StackPanel Margin="10"> 2: <TextBox Name="textBox1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Text="You" TextAlignment="Center"/> 3: <TextBlock Name="textBlock1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,100,0,0" Text="Hello You!" /> 4: <Button Name="button1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,150,0,0" Content="Hello"/> 5: </StackPanel> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Now lets take a look at what weve done there. Line 1: We removed all of the formatting from the StackPanel, except for Margin, as thats all we need.  Since our parent element is a Grid, by default the StackPanel will be sized to fit in that space.  The Margin says that we want to reserve 10 pixels on each side of the StackPanel. Line 2: Weve set the HorizontalAlignment of the TextBox to Stretch, which says that it should fill its parents size horizontally.  We want to do this so the TextBox is always full-width.  We also set TextAlignment to Center, to center the text. Line 3: In contrast to the TextBox above, we dont care how wide the TextBlock is, just so long as it is big enough for its text.  Thatll happen automatically, so we just set its Horizontal alignment to Center.  We also set a Margin above the TextBlock of 100 pixels to bump it down a bit, per the iPhone UI. Line 4: We do the same things here as in Line 3. Heres how the UI looks in the designer: Believe it or not, were almost done! Implementing the App Logic Now, we want the TextBlock to change its text when the Button is clicked.  In the designer, double click the Button to be taken to the Event Handler for the Buttons Click event.  In that event handler, we take the Text property from the TextBox, and format it into a string, then set it into the TextBlock.  Thats it! 1: private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) 2: { 3: string name = textBox1.Text; 4:   5: // if there isn't a name set, just use "World" 6: if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(name)) 7: { 8: name = "World"; 9: } 10:   11: // set the value into the TextBlock 12: textBlock1.Text = String.Format("Hello {0}!", name); 13:   14: } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } We use the String.Format() method to handle the formatting for us.    Now all thats left is to test the app in the Windows Phone Emulator and verify it does what we think it does! And it does! Comparing against the iPhone Looking at the iPhone example, there are basically three things that you have to touch as the developer: 1) The UI in the Nib file 2) The app delegate 3) The view controller Counting lines is a bit tricky here, but to try to keep this even, Im going to only count lines of code that I could not have (or would not have) generated with the tooling.  Meaning, Im not counting XAML and Im not counting operations that happen in the Nib file with the XCode designer tool.  So in the case of the above, even though I modified the XAML, I could have done all of those operations using the visual designer tool.  And normally I would have, but the XAML is more instructive (and less steps!).  Im interested in things that I, as the developer have to figure out in code.  Im also not counting lines that just have a curly brace on them, or lines that are generated for me (e.g. method names that are generated for me when I make a connection, etc.) So, by that count, heres what I get from the code listing for the iPhone app found here: HelloWorldAppDelegate.h: 6 HelloWorldAppDelegate.m: 12 MyViewController.h: 8 MyViewController.m: 18 Which gives me a grand total of about 44 lines of code on iPhone.  I really do recommend looking at the iPhone code for a comparison to the above. Now, for the Windows Phone 7 Series application, the only code I typed was in the event handler above Main.Xaml.cs: 4 So a total of 4 lines of code on Windows Phone 7.  And more importantly, the process is just A LOT simpler.  For example, I was surprised that the User Interface Designer in XCode doesnt automatically create instance variables for me and wire them up to the corresponding elements.  I assumed I wouldnt have to write this code myself (and risk getting it wrong!).  I dont need to worry about view controllers or anything.  I just write my code.  This blog post up to this point has covered almost every aspect of this apps development in a few pages.  The iPhone tutorial has 5 top level steps with 2-3 sub sections of each. Now, its worth pointing out that the iPhone development model uses the Model View Controller (MVC) pattern, which is a very flexible and powerful pattern that enforces proper separation of concerns.  But its fairly complex and difficult to understand when you first walk up to it.  Here at Microsoft weve dabbled in MVC a bit, with frameworks like MFC on Visual C++ and with the ASP.NET MVC framework now.  Both are very powerful frameworks.  But one of the reasons weve stayed away from MVC with client UI frameworks is that its difficult to tool.  We havent seen the type of value that beats double click, write code! for the broad set of scenarios. Another thing to think about is how many of those lines of code were focused on my apps functionality?.  Or, the converse of How many lines of code were boilerplate plumbing?  In both examples, the actual number of functional code lines is similar.  I count most of them in MyViewController.m, in the changeGreeting method.  Its about 7 lines of code that do the work of taking the value from the TextBox and putting it into the label.  Versus 4 on the Windows Phone 7 side.  But, unfortunately, on iPhone I still have to write that other 37 lines of code, just to get there. 10% of the code, 1 file instead of 4, its just much simpler. Making Some Tweaks It turns out, I can actually do this application with ZERO  lines of code, if Im willing to change the spec a bit. The data binding functionality in Silverlight is incredibly powerful.  And what I can do is databind the TextBoxs value directly to the TextBlock.  Take some time looking at this XAML below.  Youll see that I have added another nested StackPanel and two more TextBlocks.  Why?  Because thats how I build that string, and the nested StackPanel will lay things out Horizontally for me, as specified by the Orientation property. 1: <StackPanel Margin="10"> 2: <TextBox Name="textBox1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Text="You" TextAlignment="Center"/> 3: <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,100,0,0" > 4: <TextBlock Text="Hello " /> 5: <TextBlock Name="textBlock1" Text="{Binding ElementName=textBox1, Path=Text}" /> 6: <TextBlock Text="!" /> 7: </StackPanel> 8: <Button Name="button1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0,150,0,0" Content="Hello" Click="button1_Click" /> 9: </StackPanel> .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } Now, the real action is there in the bolded TextBlock.Text property: Text="{Binding ElementName=textBox1, Path=Text}" .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } That does all the heavy lifting.  It sets up a databinding between the TextBox.Text property on textBox1 and the TextBlock.Text property on textBlock1. As I change the text of the TextBox, the label updates automatically. In fact, I dont even need the button any more, so I could get rid of that altogether.  And no button means no event handler.  No event handler means no C# code at all.  Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • WCF security via message headers

    - by exalted
I'm trying to implement "some sort of" server-client & zero-config security for some WCF service. The best (as well as easiest to me) solution that I found on www is the one described at http://www.dotnetjack.com/post/Automate-passing-valuable-information-in-WCF-headers.aspx (client-side) and http://www.dotnetjack.com/post/Processing-custom-WCF-header-values-at-server-side.aspx (corrisponding server-side). Below is my implementation for RequestAuth (descibed in the first link above): using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.ServiceModel; using System.ServiceModel.Configuration; using System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher; using System.ServiceModel.Description; using System.ServiceModel.Channels; namespace AuthLibrary { /// <summary> /// Ref: http://www.dotnetjack.com/post/Automate-passing-valuable-information-in-WCF-headers.aspx /// </summary> public class RequestAuth : BehaviorExtensionElement, IClientMessageInspector, IEndpointBehavior { [DebuggerBrowsable(DebuggerBrowsableState.Never)] private string headerName = "AuthKey"; [DebuggerBrowsable(DebuggerBrowsableState.Never)] private string headerNamespace = "http://some.url"; public override Type BehaviorType { get { return typeof(RequestAuth); } } protected override object CreateBehavior() { return new RequestAuth(); } #region IClientMessageInspector Members // Keeping in mind that I am SENDING something to the server, // I only need to implement the BeforeSendRequest method public void AfterReceiveReply(ref System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message reply, object correlationState) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public object BeforeSendRequest(ref System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message request, System.ServiceModel.IClientChannel channel) { MessageHeader<string> header = new MessageHeader<string>(); header.Actor = "Anyone"; header.Content = "TopSecretKey"; //Creating an untyped header to add to the WCF context MessageHeader unTypedHeader = header.GetUntypedHeader(headerName, headerNamespace); //Add the header to the current request request.Headers.Add(unTypedHeader); return null; } #endregion #region IEndpointBehavior Members public void AddBindingParameters(ServiceEndpoint endpoint, System.ServiceModel.Channels.BindingParameterCollection bindingParameters) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public void ApplyClientBehavior(ServiceEndpoint endpoint, ClientRuntime clientRuntime) { clientRuntime.MessageInspectors.Add(this); } public void ApplyDispatchBehavior(ServiceEndpoint endpoint, EndpointDispatcher endpointDispatcher) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public void Validate(ServiceEndpoint endpoint) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } #endregion } } So first I put this code in my client WinForms application, but then I had problems signing it, because I had to sign also all third-party references eventhough http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/h4fa028b(v=VS.80).aspx at section "What Should Not Be Strong-Named" states: In general, you should avoid strong-naming application EXE assemblies. A strongly named application or component cannot reference a weak-named component, so strong-naming an EXE prevents the EXE from referencing weak-named DLLs that are deployed with the application. For this reason, the Visual Studio project system does not strong-name application EXEs. Instead, it strong-names the Application manifest, which internally points to the weak-named application EXE. I expected VS to avoid this problem, but I had no luck there, it complained about all the unsigned references, so I created a separate "WCF Service Library" project inside my solution containing only code above and signed that one. At this point entire solution compiled just okay. And here's my problem: When I fired up "WCF Service Configuration Editor" I was able to add new behavior element extension (say "AuthExtension"), but then when I tried to add that extension to my end point behavior it gives me: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. So I'm stuck here. Any ideas?

  • Accessing Oracle DB through SQL Server using OPENROWSET

    - by Ken Paul
I'm trying to access a large Oracle database through SQL Server using OPENROWSET in client-side Javascript, and not having much luck. Here are the particulars: A SQL Server view that accesses the Oracle database using OPENROWSET works perfectly, so I know I have valid connection string parameters. However, the new requirement is for extremely dynamic Oracle queries that depend on client-side selections, and I haven't been able to get dynamic (or even parameterized) Oracle queries to work from SQL Server views or stored procedures. Client-side access to the SQL Server database works perfectly with dynamic and parameterized queries. I cannot count on clients having any Oracle client software. Therefore, access to the Oracle database has to be through the SQL Server database, using views, stored procedures, or dynamic queries using OPENROWSET. Because the SQL Server database is on a shared server, I'm not allowed to use globally-linked databases. My idea was to define a function that would take my own version of a parameterized Oracle query, make the parameter substitutions, wrap the query in an OPENROWSET, and execute it in SQL Server, returning the resulting recordset. Here's sample code: // db is a global variable containing an ADODB.Connection opened to the SQL Server DB // rs is a global variable containing an ADODB.Recordset . . . ss = "SELECT myfield FROM mytable WHERE {param0} ORDER BY myfield;"; OracleQuery(ss,["somefield='" + somevalue + "'"]); . . . function OracleQuery(sql, params) { var s = sql; var i; for (i = 0; i < params.length; i++) s = s.replace("{param" + i + "}",params[i]); var e = "SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('MSDAORA','(connect-string-values)';" + "'user';'pass','" + s.split("'").join("''") + "') q"; try { rs.Open("EXEC ('" + e.split("'").join("''") + "')",db); } catch (eobj) { alert("SQL ERROR: " + eobj.description + "\nSQL: " + e); } } The SQL error that I'm getting is Ad hoc access to OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' has been denied. You must access this provider through a linked server. which makes no sense to me. The Microsoft explanation for this error relates to a registry setting (DisallowAdhocAccess). This is set correctly on my PC, but surely this relates to the DB server and not the client PC, and I would expect that the setting there is correct since the view mentioned above works. One alternative that I've tried is to eliminate the enclosing EXEC in the Open statement: rs.Open(e,db); but this generates the same error. I also tried putting the OPENROWSET in a stored procedure. This works perfectly when executed from within SQL Server Management Studio, but fails with the same error message when the stored procedure is called from Javascript. Is what I'm trying to do possible? If so, can you recommend how to fix my code? Or is a completely different approach necessary? Any hints or related information will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • Salesforce/PHP - Bulk Outbound message (SOAP), Time out issue - See update #2

    - by Phill Pafford
Salesforce can send up to 100 requests inside 1 SOAP message. While sending this type of Bulk Ooutbound message request my PHP script finishes executing but SF fails to accept the ACK used to clear the message queue on the Salesforce side of things. Looking at the Outbound message log (monitoring) I see all the messages in a pending state with the Delivery Failure Reason "java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out". If my script has finished execution, why do I get this error? I have tried these methods to increase the execution time on my server as I have no access on the Salesforce side: set_time_limit(0); // in the script max_execution_time = 360 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds max_input_time = 360 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data memory_limit = 32M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume I used the high settings just for testing. Any thoughts as to why this is failing the ACK delivery back to Salesforce? Here is some of the code: This is how I accept and send the ACK file for the imcoming SOAP request $data = 'php://input'; $content = file_get_contents($data); if($content) { respond('true'); } else { respond('false'); } The respond function function respond($tf) { $ACK = <<<ACK <?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "utf-8"?> <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <soapenv:Body> <notifications xmlns="http://soap.sforce.com/2005/09/outbound"> <Ack>$tf</Ack> </notifications> </soapenv:Body> </soapenv:Envelope> ACK; print trim($ACK); } These are in a generic script that I include into the script that uses the data for a specific workflow. I can process about 25 requests (That are in 1 SOAP response) but once I go over that I get the timeout error in the Salesforce queue. for 50 requests is usually takes my PHP script 86.77 seconds. Could it be Apache? PHP? I have also tested just accepting the 100 request SOAP response and just accepting and sending the ACK the queue clears out, so I know it's on my side of things. I show no errors in the apache log, the script runs fine. I did find some info on the Salesforce site but still no luck. Here is the link. Also I'm using the PHP Toolkit 11 (From Salesforce). Other forum with good SF help Thanks for any insight into this, --Phill UPDATE: If I receive the incoming message and print the response, should this happen first regardless if I do anything else after? Or does it wait for my process to finish and then print the response? UPDATE #2: okay I think I have the problem: PHP uses the single thread processing approach and will not send back the ACK file until the thread has completed it's processing. Is there a way to make this a mutli thread process? Thread #1 - accept the incoming SOAP request and send back the ACK Thread #2 - Process the SOAP request I know I could break it up into like a DB table or flat file, but is there a way to accomplish this without doing that? I'm going to try to close the socket after the ACK submission and continue the processing, cross my fingers it will work.

  • java.io.EOFException while writing and reading froma servlet

    - by mithun1538
Hello everyone, I have the following code on the applet side: URL servlet = new URL(appletCodeBase, "FormsServlet?form=requestRoom"); URLConnection con = servlet.openConnection(); con.setDoOutput(true); con.setDoInput(true); con.setUseCaches(false); con.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/octet-stream"); ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(con.getOutputStream()); out.writeObject(user);//user is an object of a serializable class out.flush(); out.close(); ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(con.getInputStream()); status = (String)in.readObject(); in.close(); if("success".equals("status")) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(rootPane, "Request submitted successfully."); } else { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(rootPane, "ERROR! Request cannot be made at this time"); } In the servlet side I recieve the code as follows: form = request.getParameter("form"); if("requestRoom".equals(form)) { String fullName, eID, reason; UserRequestingRoom user; try { in = new ObjectInputStream(request.getInputStream()); user = (UserRequestingRoom)in.readObject(); fullName = user.getFullName(); eID = user.getEID(); reason = user.getReason(); Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver"); Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/chat_applet","root",""); PreparedStatement statement = con.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO REQCONFROOM VALUES(\"" + fullName + "\",\"" + eID + "\",\"" + reason + "\")"); statement.execute(); out = new ObjectOutputStream(response.getOutputStream()); out.writeObject("success"); out.flush(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); out = new ObjectOutputStream(response.getOutputStream()); out.writeObject("fail"); out.flush(); } } When I click on the button that calls the code in the applet side, I get the following error: java.io.EOFException at java.io.ObjectInputStream$PeekInputStream.readFully(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream$BlockDataInputStream.readShort(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readStreamHeader(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source) at com.org.RequestRoomForm.requestActionPerformed(RequestRoomForm.java:151) **//Line 151 is "ObjectInputStream in..." line in the applet code** at com.org.RequestRoomForm.access$000(RequestRoomForm.java:7) at com.org.RequestRoomForm$1.actionPerformed(RequestRoomForm.java:62) at javax.swing.AbstractButton.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.AbstractButton$Handler.actionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.setPressed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicButtonListener.mouseReleased(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.JComponent.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.retargetMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Window.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpOneEventForFilters(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForFilter(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForHierarchy(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source) Why am I getting this error? I have flushed when I output, I have closed the connections also, yet I get the error. Any reason for this?

  • How can I get Firefox to update background-color on a:hover *before* a javascript routine is run?

    - by Rob
I'm having a Firefox-specific issue with a script I wrote to create 3d layouts. The correct behavior is that the script pulls the background-color from an element and then uses that color to draw on the canvas. When a user mouses over a link and the background-color changes to the :hover rule, the color being drawn changes on the canvas changes as well. When the user mouses out, the color should revert back to non-hover color. This works as expected in Webkit browsers and Opera, but it seems like Firefox doesn't update the background-color in CSS immediately after a mouseout event occurs, so the current background-color doesn't get drawn if a mouseout occurs and it isn't followed up by another event that calls the draw() routine. It works just fine in Opera, Chrome, and Safari. How can I get Firefox to cooperate? I'm including the code that I believe is most relevant to my problem. Any advice on how I fix this problem and get a consistent effect would be very helpful. function drawFace(coord, mid, popColor,gs,x1,x2,side) { /*Gradients in our case run either up/down or left right. We have two algorithms depending on whether or not it's a sideways facing piece. Rather than parse the "rgb(r,g,b)" string(popColor) retrieved from elsewhere, it is simply offset with the gs variable to give the illusion that it starts at a darker color.*/ var canvas = document.getElementById('depth'); //This is for excanvas.js var G_vmlCanvasManager; if (G_vmlCanvasManager != undefined) { // ie IE G_vmlCanvasManager.initElement(canvas); } //Init canvas if (canvas.getContext) { var ctx = canvas.getContext('2d'); if (side) var lineargradient=ctx.createLinearGradient(coord[x1][0]+gs,mid[1],mid[0],mid[1]); else var lineargradient=ctx.createLinearGradient(coord[0][0],coord[2][1]+gs,coord[0][0],mid[1]); lineargradient.addColorStop(0,popColor); lineargradient.addColorStop(1,'black'); ctx.fillStyle=lineargradient; ctx.beginPath(); //Draw from one corner to the midpoint, then to the other corner, //and apply a stroke and a fill. ctx.moveTo(coord[x1][0],coord[x1][1]); ctx.lineTo(mid[0],mid[1]); ctx.lineTo(coord[x2][0],coord[x2][1]); ctx.stroke(); ctx.fill(); } } function draw(e) { var arr = new Array() var i = 0; var mid = new Array(2); $(".pop").each(function() { mid[0]=Math.round($(document).width()/2); mid[1]=Math.round($(document).height()/2); arr[arr.length++]=new getElemProperties(this, mid); i++; }); arr.sort(sortByDistance); clearCanvas(); for (a=0;a<i;a++) { /*In the following conditional statements, we're testing to see which direction faces should be drawn, based on a 1-point perspective drawn from the midpoint. In the first statement, we're testing to see if the lower-left hand corner coord[3] is higher on the screen than the midpoint. If so, we set it's gradient starting position to start at a point in space 60pixels higher(-60) than the actual side, and we also declare which corners make up our face, in this case the lower two corners, coord[3], and coord[2].*/ if (arr[a].bottomFace) drawFace(arr[a].coord,mid,arr[a].popColor,-60,3,2); if (arr[a].topFace) drawFace(arr[a].coord,mid,arr[a].popColor,60,0,1); if (arr[a].leftFace) drawFace(arr[a].coord,mid,arr[a].popColor,60,0,3,true); if (arr[a].rightFace) drawFace(arr[a].coord,mid,arr[a].popColor,-60,1,2,true); } } $("a.pop").bind("mouseenter mouseleave focusin focusout",draw); If you need to see the effect in action, or if you want the full javascript code, you can check it out here: http://www.robnixondesigns.com/strangematter/

  • How to Bind a selected Item in a Listbox to a ItemsControl and ItemTemplate in WPF and C#

    - by Scott
All, LowDown: I am trying to create a Document Viewer in WPF. The layout is this: Left side is a full list box. On the right side is a Collection or an Items control. Inside the items control will be a collection of the "selected documents" in the list box. So A user can select multiple items in the list box and for each new item they select, they can add the item to the collection on the right. I want the collection to look like a image gallery that shows up in Google/Bing Image searches. Make sense? The problem I am having is I can't get the WPFPreviewer to bind correctly to the selected item in the list box under the itemscontrol. Side Note: The WPFPreviewer is something Micorosft puts out that allows us to preview documents. Other previewers can be built for all types of documents, but im going basic here until I get this working right. I have been successful in binding to the list box WITHOUT the items control here: <Window.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="listBoxTemplate"> <StackPanel Margin="3" > <DockPanel > <Image Source="{Binding IconURL}" Height="30"></Image> <TextBlock Text=" " /> <TextBlock x:Name="Title" Text="{Binding Title}" FontWeight="Bold" /> <TextBlock x:Name="URL" Visibility="Collapsed" Text="{Binding Url}"/> </DockPanel> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </Window.Resources><Grid Background="Cyan"> <ListBox HorizontalAlignment="Left" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource listBoxTemplate}" Width="200" AllowDrop="True" x:Name="lbDocuments" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=DocumentElements,ElementName=winDocument}" DragEnter="documentListBox_DragEnter" /> <l:WPFPreviewHandler Content="{Binding ElementName=lbDocuments, Path=SelectedItem.Url}"/> </Grid> Though, once I add in the ItemsControl, I can't get it to work anymore: <Window.Resources> <DataTemplate x:Key="listBoxTemplate"> <StackPanel Margin="3" > <DockPanel > <Image Source="{Binding IconURL}" Height="30"></Image> <TextBlock Text=" " /> <TextBlock x:Name="Title" Text="{Binding Title}" FontWeight="Bold" /> <TextBlock x:Name="URL" Visibility="Collapsed" Text="{Binding Url}"/> </DockPanel> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <ListBox HorizontalAlignment="Left" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource listBoxTemplate}" Width="200" AllowDrop="True" x:Name="lbDocuments" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=DocumentElements,ElementName=winDocument}" DragEnter="documentListBox_DragEnter" /> <ItemsControl x:Name="DocumentViewer" ItemsSource="{Binding ElementName=lbDocuments, Path=SelectedItem.Url}" > <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Grid Background="Cyan"> <l:WPFPreviewHandler Content="{Binding Url}"/> </Grid> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> </Grid> Can someone please help me out with trying to bind to the ItemsControl if I select one or even multiple items in the listbox.

  • Flash Media Server Streaming: Content Protection

    - by dbemerlin
Hi, i have to implement flash streaming for the relaunch of our video-on-demand system but either because i haven't worked with flash-related systems before or because i'm too stupid i cannot get the system to work as it has to. We need: Per file & user access control with checks on a WebService every minute if the lease time ran out mid-stream: cancelling the stream rtmp streaming dynamic bandwidth checking Video Playback with Flowplayer (existing license) I've got the streaming and bandwidth check working, i just can't seem to get the access control working. I have no idea how i know which file is played back or how i can play back a file depending on a key the user has entered. Server-Side Code (main.asc): application.onAppStart = function() { trace("Starting application"); this.payload = new Array(); for (var i=0; i < 1200; i++) { this.payload[i] = Math.random(); //16K approx } } application.onConnect = function( p_client, p_autoSenseBW ) { p_client.writeAccess = ""; trace("client at : " + p_client.uri); trace("client from : " + p_client.referrer); trace("client page: " + p_client.pageUrl); // try to get something from the query string: works var i = 0; for (i = 0; i < p_client.uri.length; ++i) { if (p_client.uri[i] == '?') { ++i; break; } } var loadVars = new LoadVars(); loadVars.decode(p_client.uri.substr(i)); trace(loadVars.toString()); trace(loadVars['foo']); // And accept the connection this.acceptConnection(p_client); trace("accepted!"); //this.rejectConnection(p_client); // A connection from Flash 8 & 9 FLV Playback component based client // requires the following code. if (p_autoSenseBW) { p_client.checkBandwidth(); } else { p_client.call("onBWDone"); } trace("Done connecting"); } application.onDisconnect = function(client) { trace("client disconnecting!"); } Client.prototype.getStreamLength = function(p_streamName) { trace("getStreamLength:" + p_streamName); return Stream.length(p_streamName); } Client.prototype.checkBandwidth = function() { application.calculateClientBw(this); } application.calculateClientBw = function(p_client) { /* lots of lines copied from an adobe sample, appear to work */ } Client-Side Code: <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="flowplayer-3.1.4.min.js"></script> </head> <body> <a class="rtmp" href="rtmp://xx.xx.xx.xx/vod_project/test_flv.flv" style="display: block; width: 520px; height: 330px" id="player"> </a> <script> $f( "player", "flowplayer-3.1.5.swf", { clip: { provider: 'rtmp', autoPlay: false, url: 'test_flv' }, plugins: { rtmp: { url: 'flowplayer.rtmp-3.1.3.swf', netConnectionUrl: 'rtmp://xx.xx.xx.xx/vod_project?foo=bar' } } } ); </script> </body> My first Idea was to get a key from the Query String, ask the web service about which file and user that key is for and play the file but i can't seem to find out how to play a file from server side. My second idea was to let flowplayer play a file, pass the key as query string and if the filename and key don't match then reject the connection but i can't seem to find out which file it's currently playing. The only remaining idea i have is: create a list of all files the user is allowed to open and set allowReadAccess or however it was called to allow those files, but that would be clumsy due to the current infrastructure. Any hints? Thanks.

  • html button elemenents and onserverclick attribute in asp.net

    - by Adrian Adkison
I have been experiencing some very strange behavior using html buttons with the onserverclick attribute. What I am trying to do is use jQuery to designate the default button on the page. By default button I mean the button that is "clicked" when a user hits enter. In testing, I would hit enter while in an input field and sometimes the intended "default" button was clicked and the server side method defined in the corresponding onserverclick attribute was hit. Other times a post back was made without hitting the server method. In order to isolate the issue I created a minimal test case and found some very interesting results. client side: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title>Untitled Page</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="/scripts/jquery-1.4.min.js"></script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:Label ID="_response" runat="server"></asp:Label> <input id="input1" type="text" /> <input id="input2" type="text" /> <button id="first" type="button" class="defaultBtn" runat="server" onserverclick="ServerMethod1">test1</button> <button id="second" type="button" runat="server" onserverclick="ServerMethod2">test2</button> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery('form input').keyup( function(e) { if ((e.which && e.which == 13) || (e.keyCode && e.keyCode == 13)) { $('button.defaultBtn').click(); return true; } } ); </script> </body> </html> server side: public partial class admin_spikes_ButtonSubmitTest : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { } protected void ServerMethod1(object sender, EventArgs e) { _response.Text = "server method1 was hit"; } protected void ServerMethod2(object sender, EventArgs e) { _response.Text = "server method2 was hit"; } } What I found was that everything worked as expected with this code except when I removed one of the input elements. In Firefox 3.6 and IE 8 when only one input exists on the page, hitting enter does not trigger the onserverclick, it makes a post back without even being jQuery "clicked" or actually "clicked". You can test this by starting with two inputs and clicking "test2". This will output "server method2 was hit". Then just hit enter and the output will be "server method1 was hit. Now take away an input and run the same test. Click "test2" see the results, then hit enter and you will see that nothing will change because the "test1" method was never hit. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks p.s. Chrome worked as expected

  • how to gzip-compress large Ajax responses (HTML only) in Coldfusion?

    - by frequent
I'm running Coldfusion8 and jquery/jquery-mobile on the front-end. I'm playing around with an Ajax powered search engine trying to find the best tradeoff between data-volume and client-side processing time. Currently my AJAX search returns 40k of (JQM-enhanced markup), which avoids any client-side enhancement. This way I'm getting by without the page stalling for about 2-3 seconds, while JQM enhances all elements in the search results. What I'm curious is whether I can gzip Ajax responses sent from Coldfusion. If I check the header of my search right now, I'm having this: RESPONSE-header Connection Keep-Alive Content-Type text/html; charset=UTF-8 Date Sat, 01 Sep 2012 08:47:07 GMT Keep-Alive timeout=5, max=95 Server Apache/2.2.21 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.21 ... Transfer-Encoding chunked REQUEST-header Accept */* Accept-Encoding gzip, deflate Accept-Language de-de,de;q=0.8,en-us;q=0.5,en;q=0.3 Connection keep-alive Cookie CFID= ; CFTOKEN= ; resolution=1143 Host www.host.com Referer http://www.host.com/dev/users/index.cfm So, my request would accept gzip, deflate, but I'm getting back chunked. I'm generating the AJAX response in a cfsavecontent (called compressedHTML) and run this to eliminate whitespace <cfrscipt> compressedHTML = reReplace(renderedResults, "\>\s+\<", "> <", "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(13), "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(09), "ALL"); </cfscript> before sending the compressedHTML in a response object like this: {"SUCCESS":true,"DATA": compressedHTML } Question If I know I'm sending back HTML in my data object via Ajax, is there a way to gzip the response server-side before returning it vs sending chunked? If this is at all possible? If so, can I do this inside my response object or would I have to send back "pure" HTML? Thanks! EDIT: Found this on setting a 'web.config' for dynamic compression - doesn't seem to work EDIT2: Found thi snippet and am playing with it, although I'm not sure this will work. <cfscript> compressedHTML = reReplace(renderedResults, "\>\s+\<", "> <", "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(13), "ALL"); compressedHTML = reReplace(compressedHTML, "\s{2,}", chr(09), "ALL"); if ( cgi.HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING contains "gzip" AND not showRaw ){ cfheader name="Content-Encoding" value="gzip"; bos = createObject("java","java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream").init(); gzipStream = createObject("java","java.util.zip.GZIPOutputStream"); gzipStream.init(bos); gzipStream.write(compressedHTML.getBytes("utf-8")); gzipStream.close(); bos.flush(); bos.close(); encoder = createObject("java","sun.misc. outStr= encoder.encode(bos.toByteArray()); compressedHTML = toString(bos.toByteArray()); } </cfscript> Probably need to try this on the response object and not the compressedTHML variable

  • Listening for TCP and UDP requests on the same port

    - by user339328
I am writing a Client/Server set of programs Depending on the operation requested by the client, I use make TCP or UDP request. Implementing the client side is straight-forward, since I can easily open connection with any protocol and send the request to the server-side. On the servers-side, on the other hand, I would like to listen both for UDP and TCP connections on the same port. Moreover, I like the the server to open new thread for each connection request. I have adopted the approach explained in: link text I have extended this code sample by creating new threads for each TCP/UDP request. This works correctly if I use TCP only, but it fails when I attempt to make UDP bindings. Please give me any suggestion how can I correct this. tnx Here is the Server Code: public class Server { public static void main(String args[]) { try { int port = 4444; if (args.length > 0) port = Integer.parseInt(args[0]); SocketAddress localport = new InetSocketAddress(port); // Create and bind a tcp channel to listen for connections on. ServerSocketChannel tcpserver = ServerSocketChannel.open(); tcpserver.socket().bind(localport); // Also create and bind a DatagramChannel to listen on. DatagramChannel udpserver = DatagramChannel.open(); udpserver.socket().bind(localport); // Specify non-blocking mode for both channels, since our // Selector object will be doing the blocking for us. tcpserver.configureBlocking(false); udpserver.configureBlocking(false); // The Selector object is what allows us to block while waiting // for activity on either of the two channels. Selector selector = Selector.open(); tcpserver.register(selector, SelectionKey.OP_ACCEPT); udpserver.register(selector, SelectionKey.OP_READ); System.out.println("Server Sterted on port: " + port + "!"); //Load Map Utils.LoadMap("mapa"); System.out.println("Server map ... LOADED!"); // Now loop forever, processing client connections while(true) { try { selector.select(); Set<SelectionKey> keys = selector.selectedKeys(); // Iterate through the Set of keys. for (Iterator<SelectionKey> i = keys.iterator(); i.hasNext();) { SelectionKey key = i.next(); i.remove(); Channel c = key.channel(); if (key.isAcceptable() && c == tcpserver) { new TCPThread(tcpserver.accept().socket()).start(); } else if (key.isReadable() && c == udpserver) { new UDPThread(udpserver.socket()).start(); } } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); System.err.println(e); System.exit(1); } } } The UDPThread code: public class UDPThread extends Thread { private DatagramSocket socket = null; public UDPThread(DatagramSocket socket) { super("UDPThread"); this.socket = socket; } @Override public void run() { byte[] buffer = new byte[2048]; try { DatagramPacket packet = new DatagramPacket(buffer, buffer.length); socket.receive(packet); String inputLine = new String(buffer); String outputLine = Utils.processCommand(inputLine.trim()); DatagramPacket reply = new DatagramPacket(outputLine.getBytes(), outputLine.getBytes().length, packet.getAddress(), packet.getPort()); socket.send(reply); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } socket.close(); } } I receive: Exception in thread "UDPThread" java.nio.channels.IllegalBlockingModeException at sun.nio.ch.DatagramSocketAdaptor.receive(Unknown Source) at server.UDPThread.run(UDPThread.java:25) 10x

  • jQuery - animating 'left' position of absolutely positioned div when sliding panel is revealed

    - by trickymatt
Hello, I have a hidden panel off the left side of the screen which slides into view on the click of a 'tab' positioned on the left side of the screen. I need the panel to slide over the top of the existing page content, and I need the tab to move with it. and so both are absolutely positioned in css. Everything works fine, apart from I need the tab (and thus the tab-container) to move left with the panel when it is revealed, so it appears to be stuck to the right-hand-side of the panel. Its relatively simple when using floats, but of course this affects the layout of the existing content, hence absolute positioning. I have tried animating the left position of the panel-container (see the documented jquery function), but I cant get it to work. My HTML <div><!--sample page content--> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et </p> </div> <div id="panel" class="height"> <!--the hidden panel --> <div class="content"> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore</p> </div> </div> <!--if javascript is disabled use this link--> <div id="tab-container" class="height"> <a href="#" onclick="return()"> <div id="tab"><!-- this will activate the panel. --></div> </a> </div> My jQuery $(document).ready(function(){ $("#panel, .content").hide(); //hides the panel and content from the user $('#tab').toggle(function(){ //adding a toggle function to the #tab $('#panel').stop().animate({width:"400px", opacity:0.8}, 100, //sliding the #panel to 400px // THIS NEXT FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK --> function() { $('#tab-container').animate({left:"400px"} //400px to match the panel width }); function() { $('.content').fadeIn('slow'); //slides the content into view. }); }, function(){ //when the #tab is next cliked $('.content').fadeOut('slow', function() { //fade out the content $('#panel').stop().animate({width:"0", opacity:0.1}, 500); //slide the #panel back to a width of 0 }); }); }); and this is the css #panel { position:absolute; left:0px; top:50px; background-color:#999999; height:500px; display:none;/*hide the panel if Javascript is not running*/ } #panel .content { width:290px; margin-left:30px; } #tab-container{ position:absolute; top:20px; width:50px; height:620px; background:#161616; } #tab { width:50px; height:150px; margin-top:100px; display:block; cursor:pointer; background:#DDD; } Many thanks

  • Resumable upload from Java client to Grails web application?

    - by dersteps
After almost 2 workdays of Googling and trying several different possibilities I found throughout the web, I'm asking this question here, hoping that I might finally get an answer. First of all, here's what I want to do: I'm developing a client and a server application with the purpose of exchanging a lot of large files between multiple clients on a single server. The client is developed in pure Java (JDK 1.6), while the web application is done in Grails (2.0.0). As the purpose of the client is to allow users to exchange a lot of large files (usually about 2GB each), I have to implement it in a way, so that the uploads are resumable, i.e. the users are able to stop and resume uploads at any time. Here's what I did so far: I actually managed to do what I wanted to do and stream large files to the server while still being able to pause and resume uploads using raw sockets. I would send a regular request to the server (using Apache's HttpClient library) to get the server to send me a port that was free for me to use, then open a ServerSocket on the server and connect to that particular socket from the client. Here's the problem with that: Actually, there are at least two problems with that: I open those ports myself, so I have to manage open and used ports myself. This is quite error-prone. I actually circumvent Grails' ability to manage a huge amount of (concurrent) connections. Finally, here's what I'm supposed to do now and the problem: As the problems I mentioned above are unacceptable, I am now supposed to use Java's URLConnection/HttpURLConnection classes, while still sticking to Grails. Connecting to the server and sending simple requests is no problem at all, everything worked fine. The problems started when I tried to use the streams (the connection's OutputStream in the client and the request's InputStream in the server). Opening the client's OutputStream and writing data to it is as easy as it gets. But reading from the request's InputStream seems impossible to me, as that stream is always empty, as it seems. Example Code Here's an example of the server side (Groovy controller): def test() { InputStream inStream = request.inputStream if(inStream != null) { int read = 0; byte[] buffer = new byte[4096]; long total = 0; println "Start reading" while((read = inStream.read(buffer)) != -1) { println "Read " + read + " bytes from input stream buffer" //<-- this is NEVER called } println "Reading finished" println "Read a total of " + total + " bytes" // <-- 'total' will always be 0 (zero) } else { println "Input Stream is null" // <-- This is NEVER called } } This is what I did on the client side (Java class): public void connect() { final URL url = new URL("myserveraddress"); final byte[] message = "someMessage".getBytes(); // Any byte[] - will be a file one day HttpURLConnection connection = url.openConnection(); connection.setRequestMethod("GET"); // other methods - same result // Write message DataOutputStream out = new DataOutputStream(connection.getOutputStream()); out.writeBytes(message); out.flush(); out.close(); // Actually connect connection.connect(); // is this placed correctly? // Get response BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(connection.getInputStream())); String line = null; while((line = in.readLine()) != null) { System.out.println(line); // Prints the whole server response as expected } in.close(); } As I mentioned, the problem is that request.inputStream always yields an empty InputStream, so I am never able to read anything from it (of course). But as that is exactly what I'm trying to do (so I can stream the file to be uploaded to the server, read from the InputStream and save it to a file), this is rather disappointing. I tried different HTTP methods, different data payloads, and also rearranged the code over and over again, but did not seem to be able to solve the problem. What I hope to find I hope to find a solution to my problem, of course. Anything is highly appreciated: hints, code snippets, library suggestions and so on. Maybe I'm even having it all wrong and need to go in a totally different direction. So, how can I implement resumable file uploads for rather large (binary) files from a Java client to a Grails web application without manually opening ports on the server side?

  • How do you send a named pipe string from umnanaged to managed code space?

    - by billmcf
I appear to have a named pipes 101 issue. I have a very simple set up to connect a simplex named pipe transmitting from a C++ unmanaged app to a C# managed app. The pipe connects, but I cannot send a "message" through the pipe unless I close the handle which appears to flush the buffer and pass the message through. It's like the message is blocked. I have tried reversing the roles of client/server and invoking them with different Flag combinations without any luck. I can easily send messages in the other direction from C# managed to C++ unmanaged. Does anyone have any insight. Can any of you guys successfully send messages from C++ unmanaged to C# managed? I can find plenty of examples of intra amanged or unmanaged pipes but not inter managed to/from unamanged - just claims to be able to do it. In the listings, I have omitted much of the wrapper stuff for clarity. The key bits I believe that are relevant are the pipe connection/creation/read and write methods. Don't worry too much about blocking/threading here. C# Server side // This runs in its own thread and so it is OK to block private void ConnectToClient() { // This server will listen to the sending client if (m_InPipeStream == null) { m_InPipeStream = new NamedPipeServerStream("TestPipe", PipeDirection. In, 1); } // Wait for client to connect to our server m_InPipeStream.WaitForConnection(); // Verify client is running if (!m_InPipeStream.IsConnected) { return; } // Start listening for messages on the client stream if (m_InPipeStream != null && m_InPipeStream.CanRead) { ReadThread = new Thread(new ParameterizedThreadStart(Read)); ReadThread.Start(m_InPipeStream); } } // This runs in its own thread and so it is OK to block private void Read(object serverObj) { NamedPipeServerStream pipeStream = (NamedPipeServerStream)serverObj; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(pipeStream)) { while (true) { string buffer = "" ; try { // Blocks here until the handle is closed by the client-side!! buffer = sr.ReadLine(); // <<<<<<<<<<<<<< Sticks here } catch { // Read error break; } // Client has disconnected? if (buffer == null || buffer.Length == 0) break; // Fire message received event if message is non-empty if (MessageReceived != null && buffer != "") { MessageReceived(buffer); } } } } C++ client side // Static - running in its own thread. DWORD CNamedPipe::ListenForServer(LPVOID arg) { // The calling app (this) is passed as the parameter CNamedPipe* app = (CNamedPipe*)arg; // Out-Pipe: connect as a client to a waiting server app->m_hOutPipeHandle = CreateFile("\\\\.\\pipe\\TestPipe", GENERIC_WRITE, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, NULL); // Could not create handle if (app->m_hInPipeHandle == NULL || app->m_hInPipeHandle == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { return 1; } return 0; } // Sends a message to the server BOOL CNamedPipe::SendMessage(CString message) { DWORD dwSent; if (m_hOutPipeHandle == NULL || m_hOutPipeHandle == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { return FALSE; } else { BOOL bOK = WriteFile(m_hOutPipeHandle, message, message.GetLength()+1, &dwSent, NULL); //FlushFileBuffers(m_hOutPipeHandle); // <<<<<<< Tried this return (!bOK || (message.GetLength()+1) != dwSent) ? • MVC: returning multiple results on stream connection to implement HTML5 SSE

    - by eddo
I am trying to set up a lightweight HTML5 Server-Sent Event implementation on my MVC 4 Web, without using one of the libraries available to implement sockets and similars. The lightweight approach I am trying is: Client side: EventSource (or jquery.eventsource for IE) Server side: long polling with AsynchController (sorry for dropping here the raw test code but just to give an idea) public class HTML5testAsyncController : AsyncController { private static int curIdx = 0; private static BlockingCollection<string> _data = new BlockingCollection<string>(); static HTML5testAsyncController() { addItems(10); } //adds some test messages static void addItems(int howMany) { _data.Add("started"); for (int i = 0; i < howMany; i++) { _data.Add("HTML5 item" + (curIdx++).ToString()); } _data.Add("ended"); } // here comes the async action, 'Simple' public void SimpleAsync() { AsyncManager.OutstandingOperations.Increment(); Task.Factory.StartNew(() => { var result = string.Empty; var sb = new StringBuilder(); string serializedObject = null; //wait up to 40 secs that a message arrives if (_data.TryTake(out result, TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(40000))) { JavaScriptSerializer ser = new JavaScriptSerializer(); serializedObject = ser.Serialize(new { item = result, message = "MSG content" }); sb.AppendFormat("data: {0}\n\n", serializedObject); } AsyncManager.Parameters["serializedObject"] = serializedObject; AsyncManager.OutstandingOperations.Decrement(); }); } // callback which returns the results on the stream public ActionResult SimpleCompleted(string serializedObject) { ServerSentEventResult sar = new ServerSentEventResult(); sar.Content = () => { return serializedObject; }; return sar; } //pushes the data on the stream in a format conforming HTML5 SSE public class ServerSentEventResult : ActionResult { public ServerSentEventResult() { } public delegate string GetContent(); public GetContent Content { get; set; } public int Version { get; set; } public override void ExecuteResult(ControllerContext context) { if (context == null) { throw new ArgumentNullException("context"); } if (this.Content != null) { HttpResponseBase response = context.HttpContext.Response; // this is the content type required by chrome 6 for server sent events response.ContentType = "text/event-stream"; response.BufferOutput = false; // this is important because chrome fails with a "failed to load resource" error if the server attempts to put the char set after the content type response.Charset = null; string[] newStrings = context.HttpContext.Request.Headers.GetValues("Last-Event-ID"); if (newStrings == null || newStrings[0] != this.Version.ToString()) { string value = this.Content(); response.Write(string.Format("data:{0}\n\n", value)); //response.Write(string.Format("id:{0}\n", this.Version)); } else { response.Write(""); } } } } } The problem is on the server side as there is still a big gap between the expected result and what's actually going on. Expected result: EventSource opens a stream connection to the server, the server keeps it open for a safe time (say, 2 minutes) so that I am protected from thread leaking from dead clients, as new message events are received by the server (and enqueued to a thread safe collection such as BlockingCollection) they are pushed in the open stream to the client: message 1 received at T+0ms, pushed to the client at T+x message 2 received at T+200ms, pushed to the client at T+x+200ms Actual behaviour: EventSource opens a stream connection to the server, the server keeps it open until a message event arrives (thanks to long polling) once a message is received, MVC pushes the message and closes the connection. EventSource has to reopen the connection and this happens after a couple of seconds. message 1 received at T+0ms, pushed to the client at T+x message 2 received at T+200ms, pushed to the client at T+x+3200ms This is not OK as it defeats the purpose of using SSE as the clients start again reconnecting as in normal polling and message delivery gets delayed. Now, the question: is there a native way to keep the connection open after sending the first message and sending further messages on the same connection?

  • Java deadlock problem....

    - by markovuksanovic
I am using java sockets for communication. On the client side I have some processing and at this point I send an object to the cient. The code is as follows: while (true) { try { Socket server = new Socket("localhost", 3000); OutputStream os = server.getOutputStream(); InputStream is = server.getInputStream(); CommMessage commMessage = new CommMessageImpl(); ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); oos.writeObject(commMessage); os.write(bos.toByteArray()); os.flush(); byte[] buff = new byte[512]; int bytesRead = 0; ByteArrayOutputStream receivedObject = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); while ((bytesRead = is.read(buff)) > -1) { receivedObject.write(buff, 0, bytesRead); System.out.println(receivedObject); } os.close(); Thread.sleep(10000); } catch (IOException e) { } catch (InterruptedException e) { } } Next on the server side I have the following code to read the object and write the response (Which is just an echo message) public void startServer() { Socket client = null; try { server = new ServerSocket(3000); logger.log(Level.INFO, "Waiting for connections."); client = server.accept(); logger.log(Level.INFO, "Accepted a connection from: " + client.getInetAddress()); os = new ObjectOutputStream(client.getOutputStream()); is = new ObjectInputStream(client.getInputStream()); // Read contents of the stream and store it into a byte array. byte[] buff = new byte[512]; int bytesRead = 0; ByteArrayOutputStream receivedObject = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); while ((bytesRead = is.read(buff)) > -1) { receivedObject.write(buff, 0, bytesRead); } // Check if received stream is CommMessage or not contents. CommMessage commMessage = getCommMessage(receivedObject); if (commMessage != null) { commMessage.setSessionState(this.sessionManager.getState().getState()); ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); oos.writeObject(commMessage); os.write(bos.toByteArray()); System.out.println(commMessage.getCommMessageType()); } else { processData(receivedObject, this.sessionManager); } os.flush(); } catch (IOException e) { } finally { try { is.close(); os.close(); client.close(); server.close(); } catch (IOException e) { } } } The above code works ok if I do not try to read data on the client side (If i exclude the code related to reading). But if I have that code, for some reason, I get some kind of deadlock when accessing input streams. Any ideas what I might have done wrong? Thanks in advance.

  • Objective-C vs JavaScript loop performance

    - by micadelli
    I have a PhoneGap mobile application that I need to generate an array of match combinations. In JavaScript side, the code hanged pretty soon when the array of which the combinations are generated from got a bit bigger. So, I thought I'll make a plugin to generate the combinations, passing the array of javascript objects to native side and loop it there. To my surprise the following codes executes in 150 ms (JavaScript) whereas in native side (Objective-C) it takes ~1000 ms. Does anyone know any tips for speeding up those executing times? When players exceeds 10, i.e. the length of the array of teams equals 252 it really gets slow. Those execution times mentioned above are for 10 players / 252 teams. Here's the JavaScript code: for (i = 0; i < GAME.teams.length; i += 1) { for (j = i + 1; j < GAME.teams.length; j += 1) { t1 = GAME.teams[i]; t2 = GAME.teams[j]; if ((t1.mask & t2.mask) === 0) { GAME.matches.push({ Team1: t1, Team2: t2 }); } } } ... and here's the native code: NSArray *teams = [[NSArray alloc] initWithArray: [options objectForKey:@"teams"]]; NSMutableArray *t = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; int mask_t1; int mask_t2; for (NSInteger i = 0; i < [teams count]; i++) { for (NSInteger j = i + 1; j < [teams count]; j++) { mask_t1 = [[[teams objectAtIndex:i] objectForKey:@"mask"] intValue]; mask_t2 = [[[teams objectAtIndex:j] objectForKey:@"mask"] intValue]; if ((mask_t1 & mask_t2) == 0) { [t insertObject:[teams objectAtIndex:i] atIndex:0]; [t insertObject:[teams objectAtIndex:j] atIndex:1]; /* NSArray *newCombination = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: [teams objectAtIndex:i], [teams objectAtIndex:j], nil]; */ [combinations addObject:t]; } } } ... the array in question (GAME.teams) looks like this: { count = 2; full = 1; list = ( { index = 0; mask = 1; name = A; score = 0; }, { index = 1; mask = 2; name = B; score = 0; } ); mask = 3; name = A; }, { count = 2; full = 1; list = ( { index = 0; mask = 1; name = A; score = 0; }, { index = 2; mask = 4; name = C; score = 0; } ); mask = 5; name = A; },

  • xrdp and xfce4 Ubuntu 14.04 slow refreshrate

    - by Awatatah
I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32bit and I am connecting via windows rdp to my ubuntu machine that has xrdp with xfce4 session. Network is 40mbps/5mbps. RDP to a windows machine from a windows machine is flawless from same location. I can connect fine, but the refresh rate is horrible. When it fist opens the desktop, the picture drags as seen in this image. The same thing happens when items are opened, closed, etc. Windows have the same effect. Sometimes up to 4 seconds before the image is rendered, depending on the image. Is there a setting to improve the refresh rate or something I can do to fix?

  • Why is mesh baking causing huge performance spikes?

    - by jellyfication
A couple of seconds into the gameplay on my Android device, I see huge performance spikes caused by "Mesh.Bake Scaled Mesh PhysX CollisionData" In my game, a whole level is a parent object containing multiple ridigbodies with mesh colliders. Every FixedUpdate(), my parent object rotates around the player. Rotating the world causes mesh scaling. Here is the code that handles world rotation. private void Update() { input.update(); Vector3 currentInput = input.GetDirection(); worldParent.rotation = initialRotation; worldParent.DetachChildren(); worldParent.position = transform.position; world.parent = worldParent; worldParent.Rotate(Vector3.right, currentInput.x * 50f); worldParent.Rotate(Vector3.forward, currentInput.z * 50f); } How can I get rid of mesh scaling ? Mesh.Bake physx seems to take effect after some time, is it possible to disable this function ? The profiler looks like this: Bottom-left panel shows data before spikes, the right after

  • Preview hidden options on web sites

    - by veili_13
I want to have hidden options on my web site and be previewed only when the user chooses. I want to animate them from left and right (about 15%). At the moment I have them visible in my html but with width set at 0 and animate it at 15%. In these containers are many options which should disappear to the left/right (with slide effect). But I am not so sure that having all of this in my HTML so I am thinking to create them with jQuery, with 0 width and animating it to it's should be width and setting the other elements to 0 width. Is this approach good, or should I create them and hide the overflow so I would animate position. Or is there a better approach ??

  • Eclipse Check for Updates issue

    - by Nicholas Ryan Bowers
I install Eclipse from the Software Center so it links up and will be updated with the rest of my software. Because I am developing for Android, however, I have to install the ADT Plugin within Eclipse by going to Help Install new software (or something to that effect). Now, I do understand that I can update Eclipse through the actual Ubuntu software center/system, but in order to update plugins and extensions within Eclipse, I have to go to Help Check for Updates (which then scans all plugins for updates). The only issue, is that when I installed through the software center, the owner became root, and whenever I run it without root, I'm not able to update - I get the error message "Insufficient access privileges to apply this update." When I run it as root, all of my plugins disappear, because I guess I installed them as myself, not as root. I tried to install the plugins as root, but the Install New Software choice would not work. Ubuntu 12.04 and Eclipse 3.7.2-1

  • Oracle Database Smart Flash Cache: Only on Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris

    - by sergio.leunissen
Oracle Database Smart Flash Cache is a feature that was first introduced with Oracle Database 11g Release 2. Only available on Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris, this feature increases the size of the database buffer cache without having to add RAM to the system. In effect, it acts as a second level cache on flash memory and will especially benefit read-intensive database applications. The Oracle Database Smart Flash Cache white paper concludes: Available at no additional cost, Database Smart Flash Cache on Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux has the potential to offer considerable benefit to users of Oracle Database 11g Release 2 with disk-bound read-mostly or read-only workloads, through the simple addition of flash storage such as the Sun Storage F5100 Flash Array or the Sun Flash Accelerator F20 PCIe Card. • How to Assign a Static IP Address in XP, Vista, or Windows 7

    - by Mysticgeek
When organizing your home network it’s easier to assign each computer it’s own IP address than using DHCP. Here we will take a look at doing it in XP, Vista, and Windows 7. If you have a home network with several computes and devices, it’s a good idea to assign each of them a specific address. If you use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), each computer will request and be assigned an address every time it’s booted up. When you have to do troubleshooting on your network, it’s annoying going to each machine to figure out what IP they have. Using Static IPs prevents address conflicts between devices and allows you to manage them more easily. Assigning IPs to Windows is essentially the same process, but getting to where you need to be varies between each version. Windows 7 To change the computer’s IP address in Windows 7, type network and sharing into the Search box in the Start Menu and select Network and Sharing Center when it comes up.   Then when the Network and Sharing Center opens, click on Change adapter settings. Right-click on your local adapter and select Properties. In the Local Area Connection Properties window highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button. Now select the radio button Use the following IP address and enter in the correct IP, Subnet mask, and Default gateway that corresponds with your network setup. Then enter your Preferred and Alternate DNS server addresses. Here we’re on a home network and using a simple Class C network configuration and Google DNS. Check Validate settings upon exit so Windows can find any problems with the addresses you entered. When you’re finished click OK. Now close out of the Local Area Connections Properties window. Windows 7 will run network diagnostics and verify the connection is good. Here we had no problems with it, but if you did, you could run the network troubleshooting wizard. Now you can open the command prompt and do an ipconfig  to see the network adapter settings have been successfully changed.   Windows Vista Changing your IP from DHCP to a Static address in Vista is similar to Windows 7, but getting to the correct location is a bit different. Open the Start Menu, right-click on Network, and select Properties. The Network and Sharing Center opens…click on Manage network connections. Right-click on the network adapter you want to assign an IP address and click Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click the Properties button. Now change the IP, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Server Addresses. When you’re finished click OK. You’ll need to close out of Local Area Connection Properties for the settings to go into effect. Open the Command Prompt and do an ipconfig to verify the changes were successful.   Windows XP In this example we’re using XP SP3 Media Center Edition and changing the IP address of the Wireless adapter. To set a Static IP in XP right-click on My Network Places and select Properties. Right-click on the adapter you want to set the IP for and select Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button. Now change the IP, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Server Addresses. When you’re finished click OK. You will need to close out of the Network Connection Properties screen before the changes go into effect.   Again you can verify the settings by doing an ipconfig in the command prompt. In case you’re not sure how to do this, click on Start then Run.   In the Run box type in cmd and click OK. Then at the prompt type in ipconfig and hit Enter. This will show the IP address for the network adapter you changed.   If you have a small office or home network, assigning each computer a specific IP address makes it a lot easier to manage and troubleshoot network connection problems. • December release of Microsoft All-In-One Code Framework is available now.

    - by Jialiang
The code samples in Microsoft All-In-One Code Framework are updated on 2010-12-13. Download address: http://1code.codeplex.com/releases/view/57459#DownloadId=185534 Updated code sample index categorized by technologies: http://1code.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=All-In-One%20Code%20Framework%20Sample%20Catalog (it also allows you to download individual code samples instead of the entire All-In-One Code Framework sample package.) If it’s the first time that you hear about Microsoft All-In-One Code Framework, please watch the introduction video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO5Li3APU58, or read the introduction on our homepage http://1code.codeplex.com/,  and this Port25 article http://port25.technet.com/archive/2010/01/18/the-all-in-one-code-framework.aspx.  -------------- New ASP.NET Code Samples VBASPNETAJAXWebChat and CSASPNETAJAXWebChat Most of you have some experience in chatting with friends on the web. So you may want to know how to make a web chat application, it seems to be quite complicated. But ASP.NET gives you the power to buiild a chat room easily. In this code sample, we will construct our own web chat room with the amazing AJAX feature. The principle is simple relatively. As we all know, a base chat application need 4 base controls: one List control to show the chat room members, one List control to show the message list, one TextBox control to input messages and one button to send message. User inputs his message in the textbox first and then presses Send button, it will send the message to the server. The message list will update every 2 seconds to get the newest message list in the chat room from the server. We need to know, it is hard for us to make an AJAX web chat application like a windows form application because we cannot keep the connection after one web request ended. So a lot of events which communicates between client side and server side cannot be realized. The common workaround is to make web requests in every some seconds to check whether the server side has been updated. But another technique called COMET makes it possible. But it is different with AJAX and will not be talked in details in this KB. For more details about COMET, we can get some clues from the Reference.   CSASPNETCurrentOnlineUserList and VBASPNETCurrentOnlineUserList This sample demos a system that needs to display a list of current online users' information. As a matter of fact, Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline Method  can get the number of online users and there is a convenient approach to check whether the user is online by using Membership.GetUser(string userName).IsOnline property, however many asp.net projects are not using membership. So in this case, the sample shows how to display a list of current online users' information without using membership provider. It is not difficult to check whether the user is online by using session. Many projects tend to be used “Session_End” event to mark a user as “Offline”,however ,it may not be a good idea, because it can’t detect the user status accurately. In addition, "Session_End" event is only available in the "InProc" session mode. If you are storing session states in the State Server or SQL Server, "Session_End" event will never fire. To handle this issue, we need to save the user online status to a  global DataTable or  DataBase. In the sample application, define a global DataTable to store the information of online users.Use XmlHttpRequest in the pages to update and check user's last active time at intervals and also retrieve information on how many users are still online. The sample project can auto delete offline users' information from a global DataTable by checking users’ last active time. A step-by-step guide illustrating how to display a list of current online users' information without using membership provider: 1. Login page. Let user sign in and add current user’s information to a global datatable while Initialize the global datatable which used to store information of current online users. 2. Current online user list page. Use XmlHttpRequest in this page to update and check user's last active time at intervals and also retrieve information on how many users are still online. 3. If user closes the page without clicking  the sign out link button ,the sample project can auto mark the user as offline and delete offline users' information from a global DataTable which used to store information of current online users  by checking users’ last active time. Then the current online user list will be like this:   CSASPNETIPtoLocation This sample demonstrates how to find the geographical location from an IP address. As we know, it is not hard for us to get the IP address of visitors via Request.ServerVariable property, but it is really difficult for us to know where they come from. To achieve this feature, the sample uses a free third party web service from http://freegeoip.appspot.com/, which returns the information about an IP address we send to the server in the format of XML, JSON or CSV. It makes all things easier.   CSASPNETBackgroundWorker Sometimes we do an operation which needs long time to complete. It will stop the response and the page is blank until the operation finished. In this case, we want the operation to run in the background, and in the page, we want to display the progress of the running operation. Therefore, the user can know the operation is running and can know the progress. CSASPNETInheritingFromTreeNode In windows forms TreeView, each tree node has a property called "Tag" which can be used to store a custom object. Many customers want to implement the same tag feature in ASP.NET TreeView. This project creates a custom TreeView control named "CustomTreeView" to achieve this goal. CSASPNETRemoteUploadAndDownload and VBASPNETRemoteUploadAndDownload This code sample was created in response to a code sample request in our new code sample request frunction for customers. The code samples demonstrate uploading files to and downloading files from a remote HTTP or FTP server. In .NET Framework 2.0 and higher versions, there are some lightweight class libraries which support HTTP and FTP protocol transmission. By using these classes, we can achieve this programming requirement.   CSASPNETImageEditUpload and VBASPNETImageEditUpload This demo will shows how to insert, edit and update a common image with the type of "jpg", "png", "gif" or "bmp" . We mainly use two different SqlDataSources with the same database to bind to GridView and FormView in order to establish the “cascading” effort. Besides we apply our self-made ImageHanlder to encoding or decoding images of different types, and use context to output the stream of images. We will explicitly assign the binary streams of images through the event of “FormView_ItemInserting” or “Form_ItemUpdating” to synchronize the stream both in what we can see on an aspx page as well as in what’s really stored in the database.   WebBrowser Control, Network and other Windows General New Code Samples   CSWebBrowserSuppressError and VBWebBrowserSuppressError The sample demonstrates how to make WebBrowser suppress errors, such as script error, navigation error and so on.   CSWebBrowserWithProxy and VBWebBrowserWithProxy The sample demonstrates how to make WebBrowser use a proxy server.   CSWebDownloadProgress and VBWebDownloadProgress The sample demonstrates how to show progress during the download. It also supplies the features to Start, Pause, Resume and Cancel a download.   CppSetDesktopWallpaper, CSSetDesktopWallpaper and VBSetDesktopWallpaper This code sample application allows you select an image, view a preview (resized smaller to fit if necessary), select a display style among Tile, Center, Stretch, Fit (Windows 7 and later) and Fill (Windows 7 and later), and set the image as the Desktop wallpaper. CSWindowsServiceRecoveryProperty and VBWindowsServiceRecoveryProperty CSWindowsServiceRecoveryProperty example demonstrates how to use ChangeServiceConfig2 to configure the service "Recovery" properties in C#. This example operates all the options you can see on the service "Recovery" tab, including setting the "Enable actions for stops with errors" option in Windows Vista and later operating systems. This example also include how to grant the shut down privilege to the process, so that we can configure a special option in the "Recovery" tab - "Restart Computer Options...".   New Office Development Code Samples   CSOneNoteRibbonAddIn and VBOneNoteRibbonAddIn The code sample demonstrates a OneNote 2010 COM add-in that implements IDTExtensibility2. The add-in also supports customizing the Ribbon by implementing the IRibbonExtensibility interface. It is a skeleton OneNote add-in that developers can extend it to implement more functions. The code sample was requested by a customer in our code sample request service. We expect that this could help developers in the community.   New Windows Shell Code Samples   CppShellExtPreviewHandler, CSShellExtPreviewHandler and VBShellExtPreviewHandler In the past two months, we released the code samples of Windows Context Menu Handler, Infotip Handler, and Thumbnail Handler. This is the fourth part of the shell extension series: Preview Handler. The code samples demo the C++, C# and VB.NET implementation of a preview handler for a new file type registered with the .recipe extension. Preview handlers are called when an item is selected to show a lightweight, rich, read-only preview of the file's contents in the view's reading pane. This is done without launching the file's associated application. Windows Vista and later operating systems support preview handlers. To be a valid preview handler, several interfaces must be implemented. This includes IPreviewHandler (shobjidl.h); IInitializeWithFile, IInitializeWithStream, or IInitializeWithItem (propsys.h); IObjectWithSite (ocidl.h); and IOleWindow (oleidl.h). There are also optional interfaces, such as IPreviewHandlerVisuals (shobjidl.h), that a preview handler can implement to provide extended support. Windows API Code Pack for Microsoft .NET Framework makes the implementation of these interfaces very easy in .NET. The example preview handler provides previews for .recipe files. The .recipe file type is simply an XML file registered as a unique file name extension. It includes the title of the recipe, its author, difficulty, preparation time, cook time, nutrition information, comments, an embedded preview image, and so on. The preview handler extracts the title, comments, and the embedded image, and display them in a preview window.   In response to many customers' request, we added setup projects in every shell extension samples in this release. Those setup projects allow you to deploy the shell extensions to your end users' machines. ---------- Download address: http://1code.codeplex.com/releases/view/57459#DownloadId=185534 Updated code sample index categorized by technologies: http://1code.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=All-In-One%20Code%20Framework%20Sample%20Catalog (it also allows you to download individual code samples instead of the entire All-In-One Code Framework sample package.)
