  • Dependency Injection: Jetty 7

    - by Malax
    Hi StackOverflow! My application requires several interface implementations which require a Jetty server to do their job. This is, however, not necessarily the case in every implementations of those interfaces so the Jetty server is only a dependency. Since it would be a huge amount of pain to wrap the entire jetty server with all its logging, connector and Handler configurations, I want to inject the server to those implementations with Spring. I decided that injecting the Server class is not a good idea because an implementation could stop the server even if its required at another location. Currently I inject empty HandlerList classes to those implementations and they register their handlers to avoid those problems. The Problem: Those handlers might interfere with other handlers for example: implementation one might register a handler for /foo and implementation two too... problem. Has anyone used Jetty in such an environment? And how could this problem be solved? My XML to clarify my problem: <bean id="jetty" class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.Server" destroy-method="stop"> <property name="connectors"> <list> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.bio.SocketConnector"> <property name="host" value="10.8.0.46" /> <property name="port" value="9999" /> </bean> </list> </property> <property name="handler"> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerCollection"> <property name="handlers"> <list> <ref bean="jetty.handlerList" /> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.RequestLogHandler"> <property name="requestLog"> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.NCSARequestLog"> <constructor-arg value="${jetty.logfile}" /> <property name="extended" value="false"/> </bean> </property> </bean> </list> </property> </bean> </property> <property name="sendServerVersion" value="false" /> </bean> <bean id="jetty.handlerList" class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerList" /> If I require an empty HandlerList I use something like this where com.example.myapp.util.ioc.CreateHandlerListFactory is a org.springframework.beans.factory.FactoryBean which creates a new HandlerList within the given HandlerList. <constructor-arg> <bean class="com.example.myapp.util.ioc.CreateHandlerListFactory"> <constructor-arg ref="jetty.handlerList"/> </bean> </constructor-arg>

  • How to best design a date/geographic proximity query on GAE?

    - by Dane
    Hi all, I'm building a directory for finding athletic tournaments on GAE with web2py and a Flex front end. The user selects a location, a radius, and a maximum date from a set of choices. I have a basic version of this query implemented, but it's inefficient and slow. One way I know I can improve it is by condensing the many individual queries I'm using to assemble the objects into bulk queries. I just learned that was possible. But I'm also thinking about a more extensive redesign that utilizes memcache. The main problem is that I can't query the datastore by location because GAE won't allow multiple numerical comparison statements (<,<=,=,) in one query. I'm already using one for date, and I'd need TWO to check both latitude and longitude, so it's a no go. Currently, my algorithm looks like this: 1.) Query by date and select 2.) Use destination function from geopy's distance module to find the max and min latitude and longitudes for supplied distance 3.) Loop through results and remove all with lat/lng outside max/min 4.) Loop through again and use distance function to check exact distance, because step 2 will include some areas outside the radius. Remove results outside supplied distance (is this 2/3/4 combination inefficent?) 5.) Assemble many-to-many lists and attach to objects (this is where I need to switch to bulk operations) 6.) Return to client Here's my plan for using memcache.. let me know if I'm way out in left field on this as I have no prior experience with memcache or server caching in general. -Keep a list in the cache filled with "geo objects" that represent all my data. These have five properties: latitude, longitude, event_id, event_type (in anticipation of expanding beyond tournaments), and start_date. This list will be sorted by date. -Also keep a dict of pointers in the cache which represent the start and end indices in the cache for all the date ranges my app uses (next week, 2 weeks, month, 3 months, 6 months, year, 2 years). -Have a scheduled task that updates the pointers daily at 12am. -Add new inserts to the cache as well as the datastore; update pointers. Using this design, the algorithm would now look like: 1.) Use pointers to slice off appropriate chunk of list based on supplied date. 2-4.) Same as above algorithm, except with geo objects 5.) Use bulk operation to select full tournaments using remaining geo objects' event_ids 6.) Assemble many-to-manys 7.) Return to client Thoughts on this approach? Many thanks for reading and any advice you can give. -Dane

  • How to perform gui operation in doInBackground method?

    - by jM2.me
    My application reads a user selected file which contains addresses and then displays on mapview when done geocoding. To avoid hanging app the importing and geocoding is done in AsyncTask. public class LoadOverlayAsync extends AsyncTask<Uri, Integer, StopsOverlay> { Context context; MapView mapView; Drawable drawable; public LoadOverlayAsync(Context con, MapView mv, Drawable dw) { context = con; mapView = mv; drawable = dw; } protected StopsOverlay doInBackground(Uri... uris) { StringBuilder text = new StringBuilder(); StopsOverlay stopsOverlay = new StopsOverlay(drawable, context); Geocoder geo = new Geocoder(context, Locale.US); try { File file = new File(new URI(uris[0].toString())); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file)); String line; while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) { StopOverlay stopOverlay = null; String[] tempLine = line.split("~"); List<Address> results = geo.getFromLocationName(tempLine[4] + " " + tempLine[5] + " " + tempLine[7] + " " + tempLine[8], 10); if (results.size() > 0) { Toast progressToast = Toast.makeText(context, "More than one yo", 1000); progressToast.show(); } else if (results.size() == 1) { Address addr = results.get(0); GeoPoint mPoint = new GeoPoint((int)(addr.getLatitude() * 1E6), (int)(addr.getLongitude() * 1E6)); stopOverlay = new StopOverlay(mPoint, tempLine); } if (stopOverlay != null) { stopsOverlay.addOverlay(stopOverlay); } //List<Address> results = geo.getFromLocationName(locationName, maxResults) } } catch (URISyntaxException e) { showErrorToast(e.toString()); //e.printStackTrace(); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { showErrorToast(e.toString()); //e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { showErrorToast(e.toString()); //e.printStackTrace(); } return stopsOverlay; } protected void onProgressUpdate(Integer... progress) { Toast progressToast = Toast.makeText(context, "Loaded " + progress.toString(), 1000); progressToast.show(); } protected void onPostExecute(StopsOverlay so) { //mapView.getOverlays().add(so); Toast progressToast = Toast.makeText(context, "Done geocoding", 1000); progressToast.show(); } protected void showErrorToast(String msg) { Toast Newtoast = Toast.makeText(context, msg, 10000); Newtoast.show(); } } But if geocode fails, I want a dialog popup to let user edit the address. That would require calling on gui method while in doInBackground. What would be a good workaround this?

  • Mocking property sets

    - by mehfuzh
    In this post, i will be showing how you can mock property sets with your expected values or even action using JustMock. To begin, we have a sample interface: public interface IFoo {     int Value { get; set; } } Now,  we can create a mock that will throw on any call other than the one expected, generally its a strict mock and we can do it like: bool expected = false;  var foo = Mock.Create<IFoo>(BehaviorMode.Strict);  Mock.ArrangeSet(() => { foo.Value = 1; }).DoInstead(() => expected  = true);    foo.Value = 1;    Assert.True(expected); Here , the method for running though our expectation for set is Mock.ArrangeSet , where we can directly set our expectations or can even set matchers into it like: var foo = Mock.Create<IFoo>(BehaviorMode.Strict);   Mock.ArrangeSet(() => foo.Value = Arg.Matches<int>(x => x > 3));   foo.Value = 4; foo.Value = 5;   Assert.Throws<MockException>(() => foo.Value = 3);   In the example, any set for value not satisfying matcher expression will throw an MockException as this is a strict mock but what will be the case for loose mocks, where we also have to assert it. Here, let’s take an interface with an indexed property. Indexers are treated in the same way as properties, as with basic indexers let you access your class if it were an array. public interface IFooIndexed {     string this[int key] { get; set; } } We want to  setup a value for a particular index,  we then will pass that mock to some implementer where it will be actually called. Once done, we want to assert that if it has been invoked properly. var foo = Mock.Create<IFooIndexed>();   Mock.ArrangeSet(() => foo[0] = "ping");   foo[0] = "ping";   Mock.AssertSet(() => foo[0] = "ping"); In the above example, both the values are user defined, it might happen that we want to make it more dynamic, In this example, i set it up for set with any value and finally checked if it is set with the one i am looking for. var foo = Mock.Create<IFooIndexed>();   Mock.ArrangeSet(() => foo[0] = Arg.Any<string>());   foo[0] = "ping";   Mock.AssertSet(() => foo[0] = Arg.Matches<string>(x => string.Compare("ping", x) == 0)); This is more or less of mocking user sets , but we can further have it to throw exception or even do our own task for a particular set , like : Mock.ArrangeSet(() => foo.MyProperty = 10).Throws(new ArgumentException()); Or  bool expected = false;  var foo = Mock.Create<IFoo>(BehaviorMode.Strict);  Mock.ArrangeSet(() => { foo.Value = 1; }).DoInstead(() => expected  = true);    foo.Value = 1;    Assert.True(expected); Or call the original setter , in this example it will throw an NotImplementedExpectation var foo = Mock.Create<FooAbstract>(BehaviorMode.Strict); Mock.ArrangeSet(() => { foo.Value = 1; }).CallOriginal(); Assert.Throws<NotImplementedException>(() => { foo.Value = 1; });   Finally, try all these, find issues, post them to forum and make it work for you :-). Hope that helps,

  • A Communication System for XAML Applications

    - by psheriff
    In any application, you want to keep the coupling between any two or more objects as loose as possible. Coupling happens when one class contains a property that is used in another class, or uses another class in one of its methods. If you have this situation, then this is called strong or tight coupling. One popular design pattern to help with keeping objects loosely coupled is called the Mediator design pattern. The basics of this pattern are very simple; avoid one object directly talking to another object, and instead use another class to mediate between the two. As with most of my blog posts, the purpose is to introduce you to a simple approach to using a message broker, not all of the fine details. IPDSAMessageBroker Interface As with most implementations of a design pattern, you typically start with an interface or an abstract base class. In this particular instance, an Interface will work just fine. The interface for our Message Broker class just contains a single method “SendMessage” and one event “MessageReceived”. public delegate void MessageReceivedEventHandler( object sender, PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs e); public interface IPDSAMessageBroker{  void SendMessage(PDSAMessageBrokerMessage msg);   event MessageReceivedEventHandler MessageReceived;} PDSAMessageBrokerMessage Class As you can see in the interface, the SendMessage method requires a type of PDSAMessageBrokerMessage to be passed to it. This class simply has a MessageName which is a ‘string’ type and a MessageBody property which is of the type ‘object’ so you can pass whatever you want in the body. You might pass a string in the body, or a complete Customer object. The MessageName property will help the receiver of the message know what is in the MessageBody property. public class PDSAMessageBrokerMessage{  public PDSAMessageBrokerMessage()  {  }   public PDSAMessageBrokerMessage(string name, object body)  {    MessageName = name;    MessageBody = body;  }   public string MessageName { get; set; }   public object MessageBody { get; set; }} PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs Class As our message broker class will be raising an event that others can respond to, it is a good idea to create your own event argument class. This class will inherit from the System.EventArgs class and add a couple of additional properties. The properties are the MessageName and Message. The MessageName property is simply a string value. The Message property is a type of a PDSAMessageBrokerMessage class. public class PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs : EventArgs{  public PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs()  {  }   public PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs(string name,     PDSAMessageBrokerMessage msg)  {    MessageName = name;    Message = msg;  }   public string MessageName { get; set; }   public PDSAMessageBrokerMessage Message { get; set; }} PDSAMessageBroker Class Now that you have an interface class and a class to pass a message through an event, it is time to create your actual PDSAMessageBroker class. This class implements the SendMessage method and will also create the event handler for the delegate created in your Interface. public class PDSAMessageBroker : IPDSAMessageBroker{  public void SendMessage(PDSAMessageBrokerMessage msg)  {    PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs args;     args = new PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs(      msg.MessageName, msg);     RaiseMessageReceived(args);  }   public event MessageReceivedEventHandler MessageReceived;   protected void RaiseMessageReceived(    PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs e)  {    if (null != MessageReceived)      MessageReceived(this, e);  }} The SendMessage method will take a PDSAMessageBrokerMessage object as an argument. It then creates an instance of a PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs class, passing to the constructor two items: the MessageName from the PDSAMessageBrokerMessage object and also the object itself. It may seem a little redundant to pass in the message name when that same message name is part of the message, but it does make consuming the event and checking for the message name a little cleaner – as you will see in the next section. Create a Global Message Broker In your WPF application, create an instance of this message broker class in the App class located in the App.xaml file. Create a public property in the App class and create a new instance of that class in the OnStartUp event procedure as shown in the following code: public partial class App : Application{  public PDSAMessageBroker MessageBroker { get; set; }   protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e)  {    base.OnStartup(e);     MessageBroker = new PDSAMessageBroker();  }} Sending and Receiving Messages Let’s assume you have a user control that you load into a control on your main window and you want to send a message from that user control to the main window. You might have the main window display a message box, or put a string into a status bar as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1: The main window can receive and send messages The first thing you do in the main window is to hook up an event procedure to the MessageReceived event of the global message broker. This is done in the constructor of the main window: public MainWindow(){  InitializeComponent();   (Application.Current as App).MessageBroker.     MessageReceived += new MessageReceivedEventHandler(       MessageBroker_MessageReceived);} One piece of code you might not be familiar with is accessing a property defined in the App class of your XAML application. Within the App.Xaml file is a class named App that inherits from the Application object. You access the global instance of this App class by using Application.Current. You cast Application.Current to ‘App’ prior to accessing any of the public properties or methods you defined in the App class. Thus, the code (Application.Current as App).MessageBroker, allows you to get at the MessageBroker property defined in the App class. In the MessageReceived event procedure in the main window (shown below) you can now check to see if the MessageName property of the PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs is equal to “StatusBar” and if it is, then display the message body into the status bar text block control. void MessageBroker_MessageReceived(object sender,   PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs e){  switch (e.MessageName)  {    case "StatusBar":      tbStatus.Text = e.Message.MessageBody.ToString();      break;  }} In the Page 1 user control’s Loaded event procedure you will send the message “StatusBar” through the global message broker to any listener using the following code: private void UserControl_Loaded(object sender,  RoutedEventArgs e){  // Send Status Message  (Application.Current as App).MessageBroker.    SendMessage(new PDSAMessageBrokerMessage("StatusBar",      "This is Page 1"));} Since the main window is listening for the message ‘StatusBar’, it will display the value “This is Page 1” in the status bar at the bottom of the main window. Sending a Message to a User Control The previous example sent a message from the user control to the main window. You can also send messages from the main window to any listener as well. Remember that the global message broker is really just a broadcaster to anyone who has hooked into the MessageReceived event. In the constructor of the user control named ucPage1 you can hook into the global message broker’s MessageReceived event. You can then listen for any messages that are sent to this control by using a similar switch-case structure like that in the main window. public ucPage1(){  InitializeComponent();   // Hook to the Global Message Broker  (Application.Current as App).MessageBroker.    MessageReceived += new MessageReceivedEventHandler(      MessageBroker_MessageReceived);} void MessageBroker_MessageReceived(object sender,  PDSAMessageBrokerEventArgs e){  // Look for messages intended for Page 1  switch (e.MessageName)  {    case "ForPage1":      MessageBox.Show(e.Message.MessageBody.ToString());      break;  }} Once the ucPage1 user control has been loaded into the main window you can then send a message using the following code: private void btnSendToPage1_Click(object sender,  RoutedEventArgs e){  PDSAMessageBrokerMessage arg =     new PDSAMessageBrokerMessage();   arg.MessageName = "ForPage1";  arg.MessageBody = "Message For Page 1";   // Send a message to Page 1  (Application.Current as App).MessageBroker.SendMessage(arg);} Since the MessageName matches what is in the ucPage1 MessageReceived event procedure, ucPage1 can do anything in response to that event. It is important to note that when the message gets sent it is sent to all MessageReceived event procedures, not just the one that is looking for a message called “ForPage1”. If the user control ucPage1 is not loaded and this message is broadcast, but no other code is listening for it, then it is simply ignored. Remove Event Handler In each class where you add an event handler to the MessageReceived event you need to make sure to remove those event handlers when you are done. Failure to do so can cause a strong reference to the class and thus not allow that object to be garbage collected. In each of your user control’s make sure in the Unloaded event to remove the event handler. private void UserControl_Unloaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e){  if (_MessageBroker != null)    _MessageBroker.MessageReceived -=         _MessageBroker_MessageReceived;} Problems with Message Brokering As with most “global” classes or classes that hook up events to other classes, garbage collection is something you need to consider. Just the simple act of hooking up an event procedure to a global event handler creates a reference between your user control and the message broker in the App class. This means that even when your user control is removed from your UI, the class will still be in memory because of the reference to the message broker. This can cause messages to still being handled even though the UI is not being displayed. It is up to you to make sure you remove those event handlers as discussed in the previous section. If you don’t, then the garbage collector cannot release those objects. Instead of using events to send messages from one object to another you might consider registering your objects with a central message broker. This message broker now becomes a collection class into which you pass an object and what messages that object wishes to receive. You do end up with the same problem however. You have to un-register your objects; otherwise they still stay in memory. To alleviate this problem you can look into using the WeakReference class as a method to store your objects so they can be garbage collected if need be. Discussing Weak References is beyond the scope of this post, but you can look this up on the web. Summary In this blog post you learned how to create a simple message broker system that will allow you to send messages from one object to another without having to reference objects directly. This does reduce the coupling between objects in your application. You do need to remember to get rid of any event handlers prior to your objects going out of scope or you run the risk of having memory leaks and events being called even though you can no longer access the object that is responding to that event. During an interview I was asked given the following: A real estate application that lists all houses that are currently on the market (i.e., for sale) within a given distance (say for example the user wants to find all houses within 20 miles), how would you design your application (both data structure and alogirithm) to build this type of service? Any ideas? How would you implement it? I told him I didn't know becaue I've never done any geo-related stuff before.

  • Bacula windows client could not connect to Bacula director

    - by pr0f-r00t
    I have a Bacula server on my Linux Debian squeeze host (Bacula version 5.0.2) and a Bacula client on Windows XP SP3. On my network each client can see each other, can share files and can ping.     I've been trying to get a c3p0 db connection pool configured for Jetty, but I keep getting a ClassNotFoundException: 2010-03-14 19:32:12.028:WARN::Failed startup of context WebAppContext@fccada@fccada/phpMyAdmin,file:/usr/local/jetty/webapps/phpMyAdmin/,file:/usr/local/jetty/webapps/phpMyAdmin/ java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:200) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:188) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:307) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:252) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppClassLoader.loadClass(WebAppClassLoader.java:313) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppClassLoader.loadClass(WebAppClassLoader.java:266) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.Loader.loadClass(Loader.java:90) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration.nodeClass(XmlConfiguration.java:224) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration.configure(XmlConfiguration.java:187) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.JettyWebXmlConfiguration.configure(JettyWebXmlConfiguration.java:77) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext.startContext(WebAppContext.java:975) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.ContextHandler.doStart(ContextHandler.java:586) at org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext.doStart(WebAppContext.java:349) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerCollection.doStart(HandlerCollection.java:165) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.ContextHandlerCollection.doStart(ContextHandlerCollection.java:162) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerCollection.doStart(HandlerCollection.java:165) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerWrapper.doStart(HandlerWrapper.java:92) at org.eclipse.jetty.server.Server.doStart(Server.java:228) at org.eclipse.jetty.util.component.AbstractLifeCycle.start(AbstractLifeCycle.java:55) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration$1.run(XmlConfiguration.java:990) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at org.eclipse.jetty.xml.XmlConfiguration.main(XmlConfiguration.java:955) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.invokeMain(Main.java:394) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.start(Main.java:546) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.parseCommandLine(Main.java:208) at org.eclipse.jetty.start.Main.main(Main.java:75) I'm new to Jetty and I want to ultimately get phpMyAdmin and WordPress to run on it through Quercus and a JDBC connection. Here are my web.xml and jetty-web.xml files in my WEB-INF directory. jetty-web.xml: <?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE Configure PUBLIC "-//Mort Bay Consulting//DTD Configure//EN" "http://jetty.mortbay.org/configure.dtd"> <Configure class="org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <New id="mysql" class="org.mortbay.jetty.plus.naming.Resource"> <Arg>jdbc/mysql</Arg> <Arg> <New class="com.mchange.v2.c3p0.ComboPooledDataSource"> <Set name="Url">jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mysql</Set> <Set name="User">user</Set> <Set name="Password">pw</Set> </New> </Arg> </New> </Configure> web.xml: <?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.2//EN" "http://java.sun.com/j2ee/dtds/web-app_2_2.dtd"> <web-app> <description>Caucho Technology's PHP Implementation</description> <resource-ref> <description>My DataSource Reference</description> <res-ref-name>jdbc/mysql</res-ref-name> <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> <servlet> <servlet-name>Quercus Servlet</servlet-name> <servlet-class>com.caucho.quercus.servlet.QuercusServlet</servlet-class> <!-- Specifies the encoding Quercus should use to read in PHP scripts. --> <init-param> <param-name>script-encoding</param-name> <param-value>UTF-8</param-value> </init-param> <!-- Tells Quercus to use the following JDBC database and to ignore the arguments of mysql_connect(). --> <init-param> <param-name>database</param-name> <param-value>jdbc/mysql</param-value> </init-param> <init-param> <param-name>ini-file</param-name> <param-value>WEB-INF/php.ini</param-value> </init-param> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Quercus Servlet</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.php</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <welcome-file-list> <welcome-file>index.php</welcome-file> </welcome-file-list> </web-app> I'm guessing that I'm missing a few jars or something. Currently I have placed the following jars in my WEB-INF/lib directory: c3p0-0.9.1.2.jar commons-dbcp-1.4.jar commons-pool-1.5.4.jar mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin.jar I have also tried to put these jars in JETTY-HOME/lib/ext, but to no avail... Someone please tell me what is wrong with my configuration. I'm sick of digging through Jetty's crappy documentation.

  • How to compile jsoup through Ant?

    - by JackWM
    I tried to use Ant to compile the jsoup source. I can compile successfully, but cannot pass the test. Here is the process: jsoup version: 1.6.3 ; Ant version: 1.8.2 the source of jsoup is in the directory src/ I made a build file src/build.xml This file contains <project name="jsoup"> <target name="compile"> <mkdir dir="build/classes"/> <javac srcdir="src" destdir="build/classes" includeantruntime="false"/> </target> <target name="jar"> <mkdir dir="build/jar"/> <jar destfile="build/jar/jsoup.jar" basedir="build/classes"> <manifest> <attribute name="Main-Class" value="StateTrace"/> </manifest> </jar> </target> <target name="run"> <!--<java jar="build/jar/jsoup.jar" input="htmls/index.html" fork="true"/>--> <exec executable="java"> <arg value="-jar"/> <arg value="build/jar/jsoup.jar"/> <arg value="htmls/index.html"/> </exec> </target> </project> Note: 1. StateTrace.java is my own test program; 2. htmls/index.html is the input to StateTrace.java. Then I compile and run it with Ant: > ant compile > ant jar > ant run After this, I got err like: run: [exec] Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Entities$EscapeMode.<clinit>(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Document$OutputSettings.<init>(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Document.<init>(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.TreeBuilder.initialiseParse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.TreeBuilder.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.HtmlTreeBuilder.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.parser.Parser.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.Jsoup.parse(Unknown Source) [exec] at StateTrace.main(Unknown Source) [exec] Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException [exec] at java.util.Properties$LineReader.readLine(Properties.java:418) [exec] at java.util.Properties.load0(Properties.java:337) [exec] at java.util.Properties.load(Properties.java:325) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Entities.loadEntities(Unknown Source) [exec] at org.jsoup.nodes.Entities.<clinit>(Unknown Source) [exec] ... 9 more [exec] Result: 1 BUILD SUCCESSFUL Total time: 0 seconds However, if I manually compiled all the java source, like javac src/org/jsoup/*.java src/org/jsoup/parser/*.java src/org/jsoup/examples/*.java src/org/jsoup/nodes/*.java src/org/jsoup/safety/*.java src/org/jsoup/select/*.java src/org/jsoup/helper/*.java I could compile successfully and pass my test. Any clue? Thanks!

  • Advice on my jQuery Ajax Function

    - by NessDan
    So on my site, a user can post a comment on 2 things: a user's profile and an app. The code works fine in PHP but we decided to add Ajax to make it more stylish. The comment just fades into the page and works fine. I decided I wanted to make a function so that I wouldn't have to manage 2 (or more) blocks of codes in different files. Right now, the code is as follows for the two pages (not in a separate .js file, they're written inside the head tags for the pages.): // App page $("input#comment_submit").click(function() { var comment = $("#comment_box").val(); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "app.php?id=<?php echo $id; ?>", data: {comment: comment}, success: function() { $("input#comment_submit").attr("disabled", "disabled").val("Comment Submitted!"); $("textarea#comment_box").attr("disabled", "disabled") $("#comments").prepend("<div class=\"comment new\"></div>"); $(".new").prepend("<a href=\"profile.php?username=<?php echo $_SESSION['username']; ?>\" class=\"commentname\"><?php echo $_SESSION['username']; ?></a><p class=\"commentdate\"><?php echo date("M. d, Y", time()) ?> - <?php echo date("g:i A", time()); ?></p><p class=\"commentpost\">" + comment + "</p>").hide().fadeIn(1000); } }); return false; }); And next up, // Profile page $("input#comment_submit").click(function() { var comment = $("#comment_box").val(); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "profile.php?username=<?php echo $user; ?>", data: {comment: comment}, success: function() { $("input#comment_submit").attr("disabled", "disabled").val("Comment Submitted!"); $("textarea#comment_box").attr("disabled", "disabled") $("#comments").prepend("<div class=\"comment new\"></div>"); $(".new").prepend("<a href=\"profile.php?username=<?php echo $_SESSION['username']; ?>\" class=\"commentname\"><?php echo $_SESSION['username']; ?></a><p class=\"commentdate\"><?php echo date("M. d, Y", time()) ?> - <?php echo date("g:i A", time()); ?></p><p class=\"commentpost\">" + comment + "</p>").hide().fadeIn(1000); } }); return false; }); Now, on each page the box names will always be the same (comment_box and comment_submit) so what do you guys think of this function (Note, the postComment is in the head tag on the page.): // On the page, (profile.php) $(function() { $("input#comment_submit").click(function() { postComment("profile", "<?php echo $user ?>", "<?php echo $_SESSION['username']; ?>", "<?php echo date("M. d, Y", time()) ?>", "<?php echo date("g:i A", time()); ?>"); }); }); Which leads to this function (which is stored in a separate file called functions.js): function postComment(page, argvalue, username, date, time) { if (page == "app") { var arg = "id"; } if (page == "profile") { var arg = "username"; } var comment = $("#comment_box").val(); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: page + ".php?" + arg + "=" + argvalue, data: {comment: comment}, success: function() { $("textarea#comment_box").attr("disabled", "disabled") $("input#comment_submit").attr("disabled", "disabled").val("Comment Submitted!"); $("#comments").prepend("<div class=\"comment new\"></div>"); $(".new").prepend("<a href=\"" + page + ".php?" + arg + "=" + username + "\" class=\"commentname\">" + username + "</a><p class=\"commentdate\">" + date + " - " + time + "</p><p class=\"commentpost\">" + nl2br(comment) + "</p>").hide().fadeIn(1000); } }); return false; } That's what I came up with! So, some problems: When I hit the button the page refreshes. What fixed this was taking the return false from the function and putting it into the button click. Any way to keep it in the function and have the same effect? But my real question is this: Can any coders out there that are familiar to jQuery tell me techniques, coding practices, or ways to write my code more efficiently/elegantly? I've done a lot of work in PHP but I know that echoing the date may not be the most efficient way to get the date and time. So any tips that can really help me streamline this function and also make me better with writing jQuery are very welcome!
