  • How can I get jquery .val() AFTER keypress event?

    I got: $(someTextInputField).keypress(function() { alert($(this).val()); }); Now the alert always returns the value BEFORE the keypress (e.g. the field is empty, I type 'a' and the alert gives me ''. Then I type 'b' and the alert gives me 'a'...). But I want the value AFTER the keypress - how can I do that? Background: I'd like to enable a button as soon as the text field contains at least one character. So I run this test on every keypress event, but using the returned val() the result is always one step behind. Using the change() event is not an option for me because then the button is disabled until you leave the text box. If there's a better way to do that, I'm glad to hear it!

  • ACPI Events not triggered after booting

    I purchased a Convertible (Laptop and Tablet, Ubuntu 14.04 installed) and would like to execute a script when changing from laptop to tablet mode and the other way around. So I created two new files within the /etc/acpi/events folder corresponding to two new scripts in the /etc/acpi folder. Everything works well if I create a new acpid process (e.g "sudo acpid -c /etc/acpi/events -s /var/run/acpid.socket") manually. However, if I do not initiate this process manually the scripts are not executed, even though there is a process running with the same options right after the machine has booted by default. The only difference I can find is the parent pid. If I create the process the parent is "init --user", while the parent of the automatically initiated process is "/sbin/init". Can anyone help me by explaining why this issue happens and how I can avoid to start an acpid process manually every time I boot the device?

  • JQuery event that triggers after CSS is loaded?

    (I posted this on the jquery forums but it's still awaiting moderation, so I thought I'd try my luck here since stackoverflow is so awesome. If I get an answer I'll post it here.) Maybe someone can help me with this, I have a couple of links on my page (inside a <div id="theme-selector">) which allow you to change the CSS stylesheets: $('#theme-selector a').click(function(){ var path = $(this).attr('href'); $('head link').remove(); $('head').append('<link type="text/css" href="'+path+'" rel="stylesheet" />'); return false; }); Now, after I've changed the style on the page, I want to get the new background color, using the following code (which I put after the $('head').append call): var bgcolor = $('body').css('background-color'); alert(bgcolor); The problem is, I think, that it takes some time for the browser to download the new stylesheet and I sometimes get the old background color in my alert message. Is there some event I can bind that will only alert me after all the stylesheets are loaded on the page? At the moment, all I can think of is using a setTimeout(function(){}, 5000); which isn't great, because what if it takes longer/shorter to load all the CSS on the page. Let me know if I need to clarify anything and I can provide more code. Thanks in advance.

    I wonder if C# (or the underlying .NET framework) supports some kind of "generic delegate instances": that is a delegate instance that still has an unresolved type parameter, to be resolved at the time the delegate is invoked (not at the time the delegate is created). I suspect this isn't possible, but I'm asking it anyway... Here is an example of what I'd like to do, with some "???" inserted in places where the C# syntax seems to be unavailable for what I want.   • "Method name expected" error when trying add a handler method to a delegate - C#

    I keep getting the error "Method name expected" when trying add the a method to a delegate. I have a delegate which is invoked when ever my game ends. The function I'm trying to add to the delegate stops a countdown from flashing (the method is in a static class). I've searched about and I'm still unsure why its not working. Here is the line causing the error: LivesManager.gameEnded += new LivesManager.EndGame(CountdownManager.DisableFlashTimer(this)); The this passes the current form to the method so it can disable the timer flash on the form. I have added methods from static classes to the same delegate before and it works fine, the only difference is that I'm passing the form as a paramater and then it doesn't like it. Is there any way to pass the form to the method without the error? Thanks in advance :)

  • What I've Gained from being a Presenter at Tech Events

    Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/MOSSLover/archive/2014/06/12/what-ive-gained-from-being-a-presenter-at-tech-events.aspxI know I fail at blogging lately.  As I've said before life happens and it gets in the way of best laid out plans.  I thought about creating some type of watch with some app that basically dictates using dragon naturally speaking to Wordpress, but alas no time and the write processing capabilities just don't exist yet.So to get to my point Alison Gianotto created this blog post: http://www.snipe.net/2014/06/why-you-should-stop-stalling-and-start-presenting/.  I like the message she has stated in this post and I want to share something personal.It was around 2007 that I was seriously looking into leaving the technology field altogether and going back to school.  I was calling places like Washington University in Saint Louis and University of Missouri Kansas City asking them how I could go about getting into some type of post graduate medical school program.  My entire high school career was based on Medical Explorers and somehow becoming a doctor.  I did not want to take my hobby and continue using it as a career mechanism.  I was unhappy, but I didn't realize why I was unhappy at the time.  It was really a lot of bad things involving the lack of self confidence and self esteem.  Overall I was not in a good place and it took me until 2011 to realize that I still was not in a good place in life.So in about April 2007 or so I started this blog that you guys have been reading or occasionally read.  I kind of started passively stalking people by reading their blogs in the SharePoint and .Net communities.  I also started listening to .Net Rocks & watching videos on their corresponding training for SharePoint, WCF, WF, and a bunch of other technologies.  I wanted more knowledge, so someone suggested I go to a user group.  I've told this story before about how I met Jeff Julian & John Alexander, so that point I will spare you the details.  You know how I got to my first user group presentation and how I started getting involved with events, so I'll also spare those details.The point I want to touch on is that I went out I started speaking and that path I took helped me gain the self confidence and self respect I needed.  When I first moved to NYC I couldn't even ride a subway by myself or walk alone without getting lost.  Now I feel like I can go out and solve any problem someone throws at me.  So you see what Alison states in her blog post is true and I am a great example to that point.  I stood in front of 800 or so people at SharePoint Conference in 2011 and spoke about a topic.  In 2007 I would have hidden or stuttered the entire time.  I have now spoken at over 70 events and user groups.  I am a top 25 influencer in my technology.  I was a most valued professional for years in a row in Microsoft SharePoint.  People are constantly trying to gain my time, so that they can pick my brain for solutions and other life problems.  I went from maybe five or six friends to over hundreds of friends in various cities across the globe.  I'm not saying it's an instant fame and it doesn't take a ton of work, but I have never looked back once at my life and regretted the choice I made in 2007.  It has lead me to a lot of other things in my life, including more positivity and happiness.  If anyone ever wants to contact me and pick my brain on a presentation go ahead.  If you want me to help you find the best meetup that suits you for that presentation I can try to help too (I might be a little more helpful in the Microsoft or iOS arenas though).  The best thing I can state is don't be scared just do it.  If you need an audience I can try to pencil it in my schedule.  I can't promise anything, but if you are in NYC I can at least try.

My application is basically going to perform CRUD operations. I am new to delegates and events and I am asking you what events I should create (like maybe AssignmentCreating, AssignmentCreated) and what kind of delegate to use (like maybe a custom delegate or just an EventHandler)?

  • Process Oracle OER Events using a simple Web Service

    This post provides an example of a simple web service that processes Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER) Events. The service receives events from OER and utilizes the OER REX API to implement simple OER automations for selected event types. The web service example implements the following: When a new Asset is Submitted to OER: The Asset is automatically Accepted by a defined user. When an Asset is Accepted: The Asset is automatically assigned  to a defined user for review. If the accepted asset is of type Service The Version meta data attribute is set based on the version id contained in the suffix of the Service Namespace.      When an Asset is Registered: If the registered Asset is of type Service The related Assets ( Interface and Endpoint are also automatically registered. The sample web service is not intended to replace the out of the Box OER BPM Based workflows, but the service can be utilized in cases where only simple automation is required and the developer has a Java skill set.   • Algorithm to match timestamped events from two sources

    I have two different physical devices (one is camera, one is other device) that observe the same scene and mark when a specified event occures. (record timestamp) So they each produce a serie of timestamps "when the event was observed". Theoretically the recorded timestamps should be very well aligned: Visualized ideal situation on two time lines "s" and "r" as recorded from the two devices: but more likely they will not be so nicely aligned and there might be missing events from timeline s or r: I am looking for algorithm to match events from "s" and "r" like this: So that the result will be something like: (s1,null); (s2,r1); (s3,null); (s4,r2); (s5,r3); (null,r4); (s6,r5); Or something similar. Maybe with some "confidence" rating. I have some ideas, but I feel that this might be probably a well known problem, that has some good known solutions, but I don't know the right terminology. I am a little bit out of my element here, this is not my primary area of programming.. Any helps, suggestions etc will be appreciated.

  • South Florida Code Camp and Other Events

    My grandmother wanted me to make her a video when she heard I got MVP in SharePoint Server of one of my sessions.  I decided I haven’t visited in two years, so maybe I can do an in person session.  I googled around and found South Florida Code Camp, which will be Saturday, February 12th.  I will be doing a session at 9:50 in the morning on Silverlight just for my grandmother and whoever shows up.  Here is the link for more information: http://www.fladotnet.com/codecamp/. In the upcoming months I plan to return to SharePoint Saturday speaking.  We are also organizing another New York event on Saturday, July 30th.  We will open up submissions for sponsors and speakers somewhere after Best Practices Conference in LaJolla.  I will be speaking at Best Practices LaJolla and the The Expert’s Conference in the upcoming months.  I am really sorry for the lack of updates it’s just been incredibly crazy going back and forth to DC and not having internet on weekdays or having the slowest internet in the world has just not helped.  I am also trying to attend Coders 4 Charity this year, so I can visit some people in St. Louis.  I’ve already got an incredibly crazy schedule going for the year.  I might be helping organize more events.  I’m going to volunteer at New York Code Camp too doing whatever they need this year.  Check back for more updates. Now there's design question regarding Event System: We want to improve the game logic, that is program a new event system. I will just repost what's settled up already on http://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=3033. From the discussion came the idea of the Publisher / Subscriber pattern + "domains": My current idea is to use the subscirbers / publishers model. Its similar to Observable pattern, but instead one subscribes to Events types, not Object's Events. For each Event would like to have both static and dynamic type. Static that is its's type would be resolved by belonging to the proper inherited class from Event. That is from Event we would have EventTile, EventCreature, EvenMapLoader, EventGameMap etc. From that there are of course subtypes like EventCreature would be EventKobold, EventKnight, EventTentacle etc. The listeners would collect the event from publishers, and send them subcribers , each of them would be a global singleton. The Listeners type hierachy would exactly mirror the type hierarchy of Events. In each constructor of Event type, the created instance would notify the proper listeners. That is when calling EventKnight the proper ctor would notify the Listeners : EventListener, CreatureLisener and KnightListener. The default action for an listner would be to notify all subscribers, but there would be some exceptions , like EventAttack would notify AttackListener which would dispatch event by the dynamic part ( that is the Creature pointer or hash). That way it came out to add the domain system : Huh, to meet the ability to listen to particular game's object events, I though of introducing entity domains . Domains are trees, which nodes are labeled by unique names for each level. ( like the www addresses ). Each Entity wanting to participate in our event system ( that is be able to publish / produce events ) should at least now its domain name. That would end up in Player1/Room/Treasury/#24 or Player1/Creature/Kobold/#3 producing events. The subscriber picks some part of a tree. For example by specifiing subtree with the root in one of the nodes like Player1/Room/* ,would subscribe us to all Players1's room's event, and Player1/Creature/Kobold/#3 would subscribe to Players' third kobold's event. Does such event system make sense to you ? I have many implementation details to ask as well, but first let's start some general discussion. Note1: Notice that in the case of a fight between two creatues fight , the creature being attacked would have to throw an event, becuase it is HE/SHE/IT who have its domain address. So that would be BeingAttackedEvent() etc. I will edit that post if some other reflections on this would come out. Note2: the existing class hierarchy might be used to get the domains addresses being build in constructor . In a ctor you would just add + ."className" to domain address. If you are in a class'es hierarchy leaf constructor one might use nextID , hash or any other charactteristic, just to make the addresses distinguishable . Note3:subscribing to all entity's Events would require knowledge of all possible events produced by this entity . This could be done in one function call, but information on E produced would have to be handled for every Entity. SmartNote4 : Finding proper subscribers in a tree would be easy. One would start in particular Leaf for example Player1/Creature/Kobold/#3 and go up one parent a time , notifiying each Subscriber in a Node ie. : Player1/Creature/Kobold/* , Player1/Creature/* , Player1/* etc, , up to a root that is /* .<<<< Note5: The Event system was needed to have some way of incorporating Angelscript code into application. So the Event dispatcher was to be a gate to A-script functions. But it came out to this one.

  • ASP.Net ListView and event handling.

    I have an .ascx which contains a listview. Let's call it the parent. Within its ItemTemplate I reference a second .ascx which is basically another listview, let's call it the child. On the parent, the child control is wrapped in a placeholder tag. I use this place holder tag to show and hide the child. Psuedo code: The child listview has a 'close' button in its Layout Template. Let's call it "btnClose" with an onClick event of "btnClose_Click". I want to use this button to set the visibility of the containing placeholder. I'm trying to avoid doing something like using PlaceHolder plhChild = (PlaceHolder)childListCtl.NamingContainer since I can't guarantee every instance of the child .ascx will be contained within a placeholder. I tried creating an event in the child that could be subscribed to. Psuedo code: public delegate CloseButtonHandler(); public event CloseButtonHandler CloseButtonEvent; And in the actual btnClose_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) event I have: if (CloseButtonEvent != null) CloseButtonEvent(); My problem is that the delegate CloseButtonEvent is always null. I've tried assigning the delegate in the listview's OnDatabound event of the parent and on the click event, to set the plhChild.visible = true, and I've stepped through the code and know the delegate instantiation works in both place, but again, when it gets to the btnClose_Click event on the child, the delegate is null. Any help would be appreciated. Neil

  • call method in a subclass of UIView

    Hey, I've got a UIViewController and an own class, a subclass of UIView. In my ViewController I make a instance of the uiview. If I tap the uiview a function gets called within it and an overlay appears. TO get rid of that overlay later the user has to tap somewhere on the screen(besides the instance of my class) How do I tell my class to dismiss the overlay? I already thought of delegate. So my thoughts were to make a MyUIViewControllerdelegate. If my viewcontroller receives a tap the delegate should be called. THe only problem is how do I tell my subclass that it should receive that delegate? I Have no instance of my viewcontroller in my subclass so I can not set the delegate. Any Ideas? Hope my problem is clear :) Thanks a lot
