• Creating a "crossover" function for a genetic algorithm to improve network paths

  Hi, I'm trying to develop a genetic algorithm that will find the most efficient way to connect a given number of nodes at specified locations. All the nodes on the network must be able to connect to the server node and there must be no cycles within the network. It's basically a tree. I have a function that can measure the "fitness" of any given network layout. What's stopping me is that I can't think of a crossover function that would take 2 network structures (parents) and somehow mix them to create offspring that would meet the above conditions. Any ideas? Clarification: The nodes each have a fixed x,y coordiante position. Only the routes between them can be altered.

  It's been a while from those school years. Got a job as IT specialist at a hospital. Trying to move to do some actual programming now. I'm working on binary trees now, and I was wondering what would be the best way to determine if the tree is height-balanced. I've set the JDBC Provider, I set the Implementation class name : com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlConnectionPoolDataSource my mysql driver 5.1.6. but I got this error while I try to connect the datasource: The test connection operation failed for data source btn_itb_ds on server server1 at node qnode with the following exception: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Unknown command. View JVM logs for further details. I have read this http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=38388 trouble shooting. But they just suggest to upgrade mysql driver version 5.1.X and I have do that. but I've got the same error.

Once I reasoned through my task and boiled it down to this, I was amused with myself. • Minimax algorithm: Cost/evaluation function?

  Hi guys, A school project has me writing a Date game in C++ (example at http://www.cut-the-knot.org/Curriculum/Games/Date.shtml) where the computer player must implement a Minimax algorithm with alpha-beta pruning. Thus far, I understand what the goal is behind the algorithm in terms of maximizing potential gains while assuming the opponent will minify them. However, none of the resources I read helped me understand how to design the evaluation function the minimax bases all it's decisions on. All the examples have had arbitrary numbers assigned to the leaf nodes, however, I need to actually assign meaningful values to those nodes. Intuition tells me it'd be something like +1 for a win leaf node, and -1 for a loss, but how do intermediate nodes evaluate? Any help would be most appreciated.

• umbraco tiny MCE 3 internet explorer insert link error

  Hi, I have an instalation of Umbraco 4.0.2.1. In internet explorer (6 / 7) i get an error when trying to insert a link using the tiny MCE rich text editor. basicaly what happens is i can choose the node in the site i want to link to but when i click insert it reloads but the tiny MCE popup does not dissapear and i get the following page error. Line: 368 Char: 9 Error: 'the Form._SCROLLPOSITIONX.value' is null or not an object code: 0 URL: "mydev server"/umbraco/plugins/tinymce3/insertLink.aspx I dont get this problem in Firefox and i have other instalations of umbraco 4.0.2.1 in which this error does not occur. I have tried using WinMerge to comparing the code of the two instalations and they seem identical in all the places i can think would have an effect on tinyMCE ("bin", "umbraco_client\tinymce3", "umbraco\plugins\tinymce3") I am pulling my hair out over this and any help would be very much appreciated.

• Quick way to get an NSDictionary from an XML NSData representation?

  I've loaded an XML file as NSData into memory and parse over the elements using NSXMLParser. Although it works, it's a very ugly and hard to maintain code since there are about 150 different elements to parse. I know there are nice third-party solutions, but I want to keep it with the iPhone SDK for purpose of practice and fun. So I thought: Why not convert that XML file into an NSDictionary? Having this, I could use fast enumeration to go over the elements. Or is it just the same amount of ugly code needed to parse and process an XML right away with NSXMLParser? Would I build up an NSDictionary for every found node in the XML and create a huge one, containing the whole structure and data? Or is there an even simpler way?

  I'm trying to develop a portable J2ME appli, but Netbeans do a class preverification of LWUIT library that uses optional APIs that some configurations don't have, so I get this error when I try to compile on a configuration without JRS-184 (M3G Optional API): Error preverifying class com.sun.lwuit.animations.Transition3D VERIFIER ERROR com/sun/lwuit/animations/Transition3D.initTransition()V: Cannot find class javax/microedition/m3g/Node I don't want to remove the classes from the LWUIT API because that classes works on other configurations compatibles with JRS-184 What I want is that NetBeans do not preverify the library, It is posible?   Hi, I'm trying to parse a SOAP response that contains nested ComplexTypes using the kSOAP library on Android 2.1. <event att1="value1" att2="value2" att3="value3"> <tag2> ... </tag2> <tag3> ... </tag3> </event> I've implemented my own class Event that implements org.ksoap2.serialization.KvmSerializable to parse this response. It is not clear to me if and how I can parse the attributes (att1, att2 and att3) of the event node. Is it even possible with the current kSOAP implementation? Thanks.

  I'm attempting to write a key to Registry. It works on Windows XP, but fails on Windows 7 / Vista. The code below throws a Security Exception with description "Requested registry access is not allowed." RegistryKey regKey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\\App_Name\\" + subKey, true); I realise that this has to do with the UAC settings, but I couldn't figure out an ideal workaround. I don't want to fork out another process, and may be don't even want to request for any credentials. Just want it to work the same way as on Windows XP. I have modified the manifest file and removed requestedExecutionLevel node. This seems to do the trick. Is there any other possible workaround, and are there any serious flaws with the "manifest" solution?

  I have a .Net webserivce that accepts XML in string format. XML String sent into the webserivce can represent any Object in the system. I need to check the first node to figure out what object to deserialize the XML string. For this I will have to load the XML into an XMLDocument (Don't want to use RegEx or string compare). I am wondering if there is a way to Deserialize the XMLDocument/XMLNode rather that deserializing the string to save some performance? Is there going to be any performance benefit serializing the XMLNode rather that the string? When i click to treeview node i can go to page which i want but there is no postback. But if i use linkbutton postback event happen. I use a break point on master page's pageload event. When i use treeview, v.s doesnt stop on break point line but if i use link button v.s stop on that line. How can i do postback with using treeview? Thanks for your helps

  SQL Server XML Schema Collection is an interesting concept and I find it very useful when designing dynamic data content. However as I work my way through implementing Schema Collections, I find it very difficult to maintain them. Schema Collection DDL allows only CREATE and ALTER/ADD nodes to existing schemes. CREATE XML SCHEMA COLLECTION [ <relational_schema>. ]sql_identifier AS 'XSD Content' ALTER XML SCHEMA COLLECTION [ <relational_schema>. ]sql_identifier ADD 'Schema Component' When you want to remove any node from a schema you have to issue following DDL's. If that schema collection assigned to a table column, you have to alter table to remove schema collection association from that column Drop the schema collection object Re-Create schema collection Alter table column to re-associate schema collection to that column. This is pain when it comes to 100+ of schemes in a collection. Also you have to re-create XML indexes all over again, if any. Any solutions, suggestions, tricks to make this schema collection object editing process easier?

• Update {node_counter} table programatically in drupal

  I currently use the statistics module (core) on my Drupal 6 install. This increments a count in the {node_counter} table every time the node is viewed, and this works. My question is - can I programmatically increment this counter as well? I am looking to achieve this when users interact with content created from views (say click a lightbox), so being able to update the table with AJAX would be ideal. I have done a quick search on d.o and there doesn't appear to be any modules that stick out straight away. Does anyone have any experience with this?

  I've just been playing with Scala, and installed the Eclipse plugin as described at http://www.scala-lang.org/node/94, but after entering the "Hello World" test example and setting up the run configuration as described, I get the following error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main For reference the code is package hello object HelloWorld extends Application { println("Hello World!") } I've tinkered a bit with the obvious solutions (adding a main method, adding a singleton object with a main method) but I'm clearly doing something wrong. Can anyone get their test example to work, or point out what I am doing wrong?

  I cant figure out whats wrong. Its working when i tried to refresh only topics but it doesnt works when tried to refresh topics and page-links. ie. topics table's refreshing, and 'pagelinks' disappearing, i thought pure cannot reach - read second template node. By the way, i tested their code, first message box show up all of nodes - includes 'pagelinks' node, but second one - in function only show up topic rows. Its look like a bug. Anyone knows how can i solve this? ps. I'm using latest version of pure. Thanks. • web.config inheritance problem

  Hello everyone, I am having an issue when I try and prevent inhertiance from a parent web.config down to a child specifically related to the node. My parent web.config contains about a dozen appSettings values while my child web.config contains none. Now, I originally began wrapping around only my system.net, web, etc nodes however when I ran my child application I recieved the following error: The configuration section 'appSettings' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration I really wasn't sure what this meant and a google search didn't yield me any decent results so I attempted to move the location node to also encompass the field in my parent web.config but to no avail. My child web.config is pretty vanilla so I am not sure what the problem is. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. • dojo/dijit and Printing

  I want to be able to provide a button to my users to just print a particular portion of my dojo/dijit application. There seems to be a general lack of documentation and examples when it comes to printing. For example, I have a specific dijit.layout.ContentPane that contains the content that I would like to print, but I wouldn't want to print the rest of the document. I have seen some pure JavaScript examples on the web where the node.innerHTML is read into a "hidden" iframe and then printed from there. I suspect that would work, but I was wondering if there was a more dojo centric approach to printing. Any thoughts?

• How to write the Visitor Pattern for Abstract Syntax Tree in Python?

  My collegue suggested me to write a visitor pattern to navigate the AST. Can anyone tell me more how would I start writing it? As far as I understand, each Node in AST would have visit() method (?) that would somehow get called (from where?). That about concludes my understanding. To simplify everything, suppose I have nodes Root, Expression, Number, Op and the tree looks like this: Root | Op(+) / \ / \ Number(5) \ Op(*) / \ / \ / \ Number(2) Number(444) Can anyone think of how the visitor pattern would visit this tree to produce output: 5 + 2 * 444 Thanks, Boda Cydo.
