• How to activate nVidia cards programmatically on new MacBookPros for CUDA programming?

  The new MacBookPros come with two graphic adapters, the Intel HD Graphics, and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. OS X switches back and forth between them, depending on the workload, detection of an external monitor, or activation of Rosetta. I want to get my feet wet with CUDA programming, and unfortunately the CUDA SDK doesn't seem to take care of this back-and-forth switching. When Intel is active, no CUDA device gets detected, and when the NVidia card is active, it gets detected. So my current work-around is to use the little tool gfxCardStatus (http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus/) to force the card on or off, just as I need it, but that's not satisfactory. Does anybody here know what the Apple-blessed, Apple-recommended way is to (1) detect the presence of a CUDA card, (2) to activate this card when present?

• Where does Visual Studio stores the default browser to use in debug?

  Hi all, I'm using Firefox as my default browser but when working in Visual Studio, I'd like to fire up IE when I go in debug. We all know that in MVC application, there's no way to choose the default browser unless you add a web form file, right click it, select browse with and then force a browser to be the default one. Great. My simple question is: where does VS stores the browser I just tell him to use (registry? project file? some xml config file?) I'm asking because VS loose this preference several times a month. I'm fed up with making the brower trick again and again. Thanks in advance, Fabian

• Way to get VS 2008 to stop forcing indentation on namespaces?

  I've never really been a big fan of the way most editors handle namespaces. They always force you to add an extra pointless level of indentation. For instance, I have a lot of code in a page that I would much rather prefer formatted as namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } and not something like namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } Honestly, I don't really even like the class thing being indented most of the time because I usually only have 1 class per file. And it doesn't look as bad here, but when you get a ton of code and lot of scopes, you can easily have indentation that forces you off the screen, and plus here I just used 2-space tabs and not 4-space as is used by us. Anyway, is there some way to get Visual Studio to stop trying to indent namespaces for me like that?

• Make a steady automata in javascript

  I'm working on a javascript game and I've got an automata system controlling game time and sprite animation as well as giving a hand to the path finding system for timing and such. My problem is on slow browsers the javascript loop I'm using for counting the time is not very accurate. It tends to jump around a lot. I there a way to force the loop to run consistantly at 30 fps? The automata can drop frames if it needs to catch up so if the solution requires droping frames thats ok.

• Routinely sync a branch to master using git rebase

  I have a Git repository with a branch that hardly ever changes (nobody else is contributing to it). It is basically the master branch with some code and files stripped out. Having this branch around makes it easy for me to package up a leaner version of my project without having to strip out the code and files manually every time. I have been using git rebase to keep this branch up to date with the master but I always get this warning when I try to push the branch after rebasing: To prevent you from losing history, non-fast-forward updates were rejected Merge the remote changes before pushing again. See the 'Note about fast-forwards' section of 'git push --help' for details. I then use git push --force and it works but I feel like this is probably bad practice. I want to keep this branch "in sync" with the master quickly and easily. Is there a better way of handling this task?

• URL Rewrite in htaccess problem

  Am rather new to this world of htaccess redirects.Am trying to force all redirects in my Zend MVC to my https but I get a requested URL not found error on requests that dont go though the index controller Example https://www.example.com/auth/register gives a requested URL /auth/register not found error. However if I remove the https redirect rule it works fine over http. If I adjust the URL to https://www.example.com/index.php/auth/register it works fine. The URL https://www.example.com/index/faq works just fine since it goes through the index controller. • Forcing images to not wrap

  I can't touch the html theme but I have access to the css files. <div class="photos"> <img src="a.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> <img src="b.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> <img src="c.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> //align makes the images wrap </div> Unfortunately I can't remove align="left" from the images otherwise this CSS snippet would have done the job .photos{ white-space: nowrap; } .photos img{ display: inline; vertical-align: top; } Any ideas? • Any clever way to fix 'string or binary data would be truncated' warning with LINQ

  Is there a clever way to determine which field is causing 'string or binary data would be truncated' with LINQ. I've always ended up doing it manually by stepping through a debugger, but with a batch using 'SubmitChanges' I have to change my code to inserting a single row to find the culprit in a batch of rows. Am I missing something or in this day and age do I really have to still use a brute force method to find the problem. Please dont give me advice on avoiding this error in future (unless its something much cleverer than 'validate your data'). The source data is coming from a different system where I dont have full control anyway - plus I want to be lazy. PS. Does SQL Server 2008 actually tell me the field name. Please tell me it does! I'll upgrade!

• Can a CWinApp be placed in a DLL?

  I'm updating some legacy apps to Visual Studio 10 and am in linker hell. All of these DLLs derive classes from CWinApp and use AfxGetApp() to get access to the object. When I link the DLLs I get unresolved externals that look like global static objects that would get pulled in by a normal app's main(): Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CException::classCException" (?classCException@CException@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CFrameWnd::classCFrameWnd" (?classCFrameWnd@CFrameWnd@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static class CRect const CFrameWnd::rectDefault" (?rectDefault@CFrameWnd@@2VCRect@@B) My current combination of ignore default libraries and additional libraries (the method you can easily google to find the answer to linker hell) is: msvcprtd.lib,mfc100d.lib,mfcs100d.lib,libcmtd.lib When I add nafxcwd.lib (the mfc library), these three external symbols resolve but I end up with a bunch of other duplicate symbols (requiring the use of /FORCE:MULTIPLE) and in end __argc and __argv become unresolved. So the basic question is: Can you link a DLL containing a CWinApp in VS10? How do you setup the linker to do it?

• Any Way to Further Customize Embedded Google Calendar?

  I'd like to embed a few Google Calendars for my client's web site. The "Google Embeddable Calendar Helper" provides very few customization options. Updating the hex code for the background color in the generated source only works if you pick one of the ~70 standard Google Calendar bg colors. (I can tweak the "border" selector because at least it's in an actual statement.) A "view-source" on the rendered page shows a CSS file loaded from the iframe, but I obviously can't change anything in there. And I assume I can't force an override of selectors with my own CSS file because I have no way of "injecting" it into the iframe. Does anyone know of a (non-API) way of tweaking the colors, fonts, and other CSS thingies in an embedded Google Calendar? Thanks in advance...

  Authlogin by default is supposed to auto login when the user's persistence token changes. • Silverlight 4 launch a trusted application into the browser ?

  Hi guys, I just lost 5 hours looking for a answer which i haven't been able to find :p First, I'd like to force a trusted application (i need to access the file system) to display into the browser. Based on what i found on google a trusted application must be installed and launched as a desktop application (also called out-of-browser application). So, i want to have an installed application on the client side but meanwhile, the user must also be able to start this same application into a browser window when he goes on my web site. Is this possible ? Second, I'd like to give to the user the possibility to start the application from the browser. To be clear be the application is installed on the client computer but i want a button on my web site which starts the desktop application. How can i do that ? Thanks

• Perl unit test - start a tcp server & continue

  I am trying to write a unit test for a client server application. To test the client, in my unit test, I want to first start my tcp server (which itself is another perl file). I tried to start the tcp server by forking: if (! fork()) { system ("$^X server.pl") == 0 or die "couldn't start server" } So when I call "make test" after "perl Makefile.PL", this test starts & I can see the server starting but after that the unit test just hangs there. So I guess I need to start this server in background and I tried the "&" at the end to force it to start in background & then test to continue. But, I still couldn't succeed. What am I doing wrong?   According to various documents and discussions this used to be possible: you needed a block something like this in your script: try tell me to «event ascrgdut» end try tell me to doTheFunkyNewThing The event corresponds to hidden event with the undocumented C constant kUpdateAEUT (see here for the declaration of the constant) which should force the scripting additions to be reloaded. I've written a scripting addition and played around with this method of getting it to load but I have had no luck at all. I can only make it load by starting my script after the extension has been installed. Does anyone know if there is a way to make this work? Has this functionality been disabled in more recent OS X releases? I'm using OS X 10.6.2 FWIW.

• Implementing Dijkstra's Algorithm

  I've been tasked (coursework @ university) to implement a form of path-finding. Now, in-spec, I could just implement a brute force, since there's a limit on the number of nodes to search (begin, two in the middle, end), but I want to re-use this code and came to implement Dijkstra's algorithm. I've seen the pseudo on Wikipedia and a friend wrote some for me as well, but it flat out doesn't make sense. The algorithm seems pretty simple and it's not a problem for me to understand it, but I just can't for the life of me visualize the code that would realize such a thing. Any suggestions/tips?

  Hi, I have been googling to figure out how I can customize the Date format when I use jax-rs on apache CXF. I looked at the codes, and it seems that it only support primitives, enum and a special hack that assume the type associated with @ForumParam has a constructor with a single string parameter. This force me to use String instead of Date if I want to use ForumParam. it is kind of ugly. • Drupal, FUpload images module introduce bugs

  hi, I'm using FUpload module to upload multiple images together from my CCK Image field. It perfectly works, however if I use it when I'm creating a new node, the other CCK Image fields stop to work and the images (from these fields) are not stored at all. The error I get is "path doesn't exist"... It sounds like fUpload force the other CCK fields to store the content before the node is saved and the folders are created. (I'm using path auto, to create folders accordingly to node title). Could you give me some tips ? Thanks

• capistrano put() and upload() both failing

  With capistrano, I am deploying a Rails application from Mac OS X 10.5 to CentOS 5.2 Note that deploy.rb and the server environment have not changed in over a year. There is a task within our deploy.rb file called upload: put(File.read( file ),"#{shared_path}/#{filename}", :via => :scp) This fails each and every time with the following exception: No such file or directory - /srv/ourapp/releases/20100104194410/config/database.yml My local copy of config/database.yml is failing to upload properly. I've verified it's not our internet connection, as this happens on three different connections and two different systems. I've also tried to swap out put() for upload() but get the same result; also, dropping :via = :scp, and/or trying to force :sftp instead similarly fails. Relevant info: $ cap -V Capistrano v2.5.10 $ ruby -v ruby 1.8.7 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 72) [i686-darwin9.6.0]

• PHP4 No Error When Missing Method is Called

  I have come across an annoying problem while writing some PHP4 code. I renamed the method of a class but I forgot to rename it where it was being called from. The annoying part is it was hard to track down where the problem was because no error was triggered. The script simply aborted leaving the web page partially rendered. Is it normal for this not to trigger an error or is there something wacky going on here? If this is normal is there a way to force this kind of thing to cause an error?
