• How do I send emails in Java?

  Hey. I currently want to develop a simple program in Java that sends out email. Not just a few emails, but actually a lot (10k+) I have a subscribers list that all agree to it, by the way. Anyway, I cannot send these emails via Gmail or anything like that - They do not allow that many emails to be sent. So the basic question is: How do I send emails by making the actual sending computer an email server? I'm sure I should use some libraries, I heard about ChillKat or something like that. Could anyone explain / help me out? Would be very much appreciated.

• Java: ArrayList bottleneck

  Hello, while profiling a java application that calculates hierarchical clustering of thousands of elements I realized that ArrayList.get occupies like half of the CPU needed in the clusterization part of the execution. The algorithm searches the two more similar elements (so it is O(n*(n+1)/2) ), here's the pseudo code: int currentMax = 0.0f for (int i = 0 to n) for (int j = i to n) get content i-th and j-th if their similarity > currentMax update currentMax merge the two clusters So effectively there are a lot of ArrayList.get involved. Is there a faster way? I though that since ArrayList should be a linear array of references it should be the quickest way and maybe I can't do anything since there are simple too many gets.. but maybe I'm wrong. I don't think using a HashMap could work since I need to get them all on every iteration and map.values() should be backed by an ArrayList anyway.. Otherwise should I try other collection libraries that are more optimized? Like google's one, or apache one.. Thanks

I'd love to use GPGPU for image processing, particles, and fast geometric operations. Right now, it seems the two contenders in this space are CUDA and OpenCL. I'd like to know: Is OpenCL usable yet from Java on Windows/Mac? What are the libraries ways to interface to OpenCL/CUDA? Is using JNA directly an option? Am I forgetting something? Any real-world experience/examples/war stories are appreciated.

• Java library for HTML analysis

  Hi, (I've seen similar questions, but I think none of them cater to my specific needs, hence...) I would like to know if there is a Java library for analysis of real-world (read: incomplete, ill-formed) HTML. By analysis, I mean things like: figuring out the most prominent color in an HTML chunk changing that color to some other color (hence, has to support modification of the HTML as well) pruning out unwanted tags fixing up the HTML to result in a well formed HTML snippet Parts of the last two are done by libraries such as Jericho, and jTidy. • HttpPost works in Java project, not in Android

An HttpGet happens first to get some info needed for login, then an HttpPost to do the actual login process. When run with the above Jar files I get the 302 redirect, however if I run the exact same code from an Android project with the 1.6 Android Jar file on the build path I get the 200 response from the server. I get the same 200 response when running the code on my 2.2 device. My android application has internet permissions, and the HttpGet works fine. I'm assuming that the problem lies in the fact that HttpPost (or some other class) is different in some significant way between the Android Jar version and the newer Apache versions. I've tried adding the Apache libraries to the build path of the Android project, but due to the duplicate classes I get messages like: INFO/dalvikvm(390): DexOpt: not resolving ambiguous class 'Lorg/apache/http/impl/client/DefaultHttpClient;' in the log. I've also tried using a MultipartEntity instead of the UrlEncodedFormEntity but I get the same 200 result. So, I have a few questions: - Can I force the code running under android to use the newer Apache libraries in preference to the Android versions? - If not, does anyone have any ideas how can I alter my code so that it works with the Android Jar? - Are there any other, totally different approaches to doing an HttpPost in Android? - Any other ideas? I've read a lot of posts and code but I'm not getting anywhere. I've been stuck on this for a couple of days and I'm at a loss how to get the thing to work, so I'll try anything at this point.   My first project in java is going to be a program (eventually I have to create a GUI interface but for now CLI would do) to keep track of my books (something similar to what libraries have only a simpler). I need to be able to insert, update, remove, show all books, update, search(by name or author or date). For the design I was thinking one main class Library which will have all of the above as methods that connect to the db and retrieve the data. Is this approach ok? I realize it's simple but it's my first real project and I would appreciate a little feedback. Also, is it too soon to consider reading up on design patterns and database design ?

This all used to work however when I started up Netbeans yesterday it just wasn't working as in the other projects won't compile even though the projects are linked. It can recognise the packages - just the actual classes themselves were not recognised... and to add to the weirdness some of the classes are getting picked up fine. I have checked the dist folder of the shared project and the Shared.jar file exists. Also I have checked the Jar and the other classes that are not being recognises are there also. Any suggestions? Solution I had to reinstall netbeans to get this solution resolved

• IBM RAD With Java 1.5 wont compile code with generics

  Hello I have some code that has generic references in it and my IBM RAD IDE will not compile the code, instead treating it as an error. I have checked the version of the JRE its pointing to across all the Enterprise Project's and it is 1.5 which I am told does support generics. Also I checked that all the libraries for WAS were pointing to the correct version and that the Compiler Compliance Level was set correctly (which it was at 5.0 and i changed it to 6.0 with no luck either) Does anyone have any suggestions as to anything else I can try? I have issues like this with RAD all the time and I dont know about anyone else but they took eclipse and made it complicated and dysfunctional.

• Networking multiple computers to one brain in Java

  Hello, I was wondering which libraries or API's would be useful in this. what im aiming for is to be able to type a command into a prompt and then specify which computer(out of all of them that are networked together) to execute that command on. the second part is i want to be able to see that command execute and the result on the computer that was specified. for example if i enter "firefox www.google.com, desktop2" i want to be able to see the window open on the monitor of that computer. What I want to find is the most widely adopted, most heavily developed, easiest to deploy solution to get Gecko or WebKit into a Swing app (Needs to run OS X and Windows). The limited (crappy?) JEditPane type solutions are not robust enough for our needs. We would really like to use either WebKit or Gecko.   I'd like to upload a few files to a http server. Basically what i need is some sort of a post request to the server with a few parameters and the files. I've seen examples of just uploading files, but didn't find how to also pass additional parameters. So the question would be what's the simplest and free solution of doing this? Does anyone have any file upload examples that i could study? I've been googling for a few hours, but (maybe it's just one of those days) couldn't find exactly what i needed. • Synchronizing Java Visualizer Audio and Visual

  I've run into a problem creating a visualizer for .mp3 files in Java. My goal is to create a visualization that runs in time with the .mp3 file being played. I can currently visualize an .mp3 OR play it, but not both at the same time. I am using libraries which may make this trickier than necessary. I currently: Read in the .mp3 as a FileInputStream. a) Convert the FileInputStream into a Bitstream and run the Visualizer OR b) Pass the FileInputStream to a library Play method where it converts it into a Bitstream, decodes it, and plays it. I am using the JLayer library to play and decode the .mp3. My question is: how do I synchronize the two actions so that I can run both at the same time AND they line up (so my visualizations correspond to the changing frequencies). This implies that they finish at the same time as well.

  I am looking for a component I can use in Swing that acts as a GUI console which has a text area with scrollbars that can be set to a particular font has an InputStream and an OutputStream that a host application can obtain accepts keyboard input, prints it onto the end of the console text, and sends that input to the InputStream prints the OutputStream text to the end of the console has some kind of FIFO-ish property whereby the amount of text displayed in the console can be limited by automatically discarding the oldest text, when appropriate allows copy (but not cut or paste or any other editing) of the console text to the system clipboard This is kind of like the Console tab in Eclipse.   I am looking for a Java library that let's you write large PDFs sequentially with a minimum amount of memory. Most of the libraries I had a look at has to build up the document in memory first before you can actually write it. The problem I have to deal with are OutOfMemoryErrors. It would be great if I could flush the writer programmatically whenever needed e.g. for each page. Does anyone have any recommendations? I need something with a license along the lines of the LGPL (so not the GPL or the Affero GPL that iText uses).

  What would be the best approach to reverse a large text file that is uploaded asynchronously to a servlet that reverses this file in a scalable and efficient way? text file can be massive (gigabytes long) can assume mulitple server/clustered environment to do this in a distributed manner. open source libraries are encouraged to consider I was thinking of using Java NIO to treat file as an array on disk (so that I don't have to treat the file as a string buffer in memory). • connecting clients to server with emulator on different computers

  I am writing an application that communicates using sockets. I have a server running on one android emulator on a computer, then i have 2 other clients running on android emulators on 2 other computers. I am trying to get the 2 clients to connect to the server. This works when i run the server and clients on the same computer, but when i attempt to do this on the same wifi network and on separate computers it gives me the following error. The client and server code is posted below. A lot is stripped out just to show the important stuff. Also, after the server starts i telnet into the server and run these commands redir add tcp:5000:6000 (i have also tried without doing the redir but it still says the same thing). Then i start the clients and get the error. Thanks for the help! Both the 5000 port and 6000 port are open on my router. • Best Java library(ies) for forgiving command interpreter

  I am looking for a library or set of libraries that will help me write a forgiving command interpreter. A forgiving command interpreter would be a command interpreter which can deal with simple and even not so simple spelling and word order mistakes in the input. My goal is to have an interpreter which would take the input (a command) from a user and then: execute the command, if it is correct. apply corrections to the command, until a correct command is generated and then present that command to the user to confirm whether it is 'what the user meant'.
