• 12c - flashforward, flashback or see it as of now...

  Oracle 9i exposed flashback query to developers for the first time.  The ability to flashback query dates back to version 4 however (it just wasn't exposed).  Every time you run a query in Oracle it is in fact a flashback query - it is what multi-versioning is all about.However, there was never a flashforward query (well, ok, the workspace manager has this capability - but with lots of extra baggage).  We've never been able to ask a table "what will you look like tomorrow" - but now we do.The capability is called Temporal Validity.  If you have a table with data that is effective dated - has a "start date" and "end date" column in it - we can now query it using flashback query like syntax.  The twist is - the date we "flashback" to can be in the future.  It works by rewriting the query to transparently the necessary where clause and filter out the right rows for the right period of time - and since you can have records whose start date is in the future - you can query a table and see what it would look like at some future time.Here is a quick example, we'll start with a table:ops$tkyte%ORA12CR1> create table addresses  2  ( empno       number,  3    addr_data   varchar2(30),  4    start_date  date,  5    end_date    date,  6    period for valid(start_date,end_date)  7  )  8  /Table created.the new bit is on line 6 (it can be altered into an existing table - so any table  you have with a start/end date column will be a candidate).  The keyword is PERIOD, valid is an identifier I chose - it could have been foobar, valid just sounds nice in the query later.  You identify the columns in your table - • WPF, how can I optimize lines and circles drawing ?

  Hello ! I am developping an application where I need to draw a graph on the screen. For this purpose, I use a Canvas and I put Controls on it. An example of such a draw as shown in the app can be found here : http://free0.hiboox.com/images/1610/d82e0b7cc3521071ede601d3542c7bc5.png It works fine for simple graphs, but I also want to be able to draw very large graphs (hundreds of nodes). And when I try to draw a very large graph, it takes a LOT of time to render. My problem is that the code is not optimized at all, I just wanted it to work. Until now, I have a Canvas on the one hand, and multiple Controls on the other hands.   I have a WCF service that is causing a bit of a headache. Any ideas why? I've tried upping the object graph and the message size. When I debug it stops in the wrapper class with the 400 error. I'm not sure if there is a serialization error, but considering the object contract is 4 integer properties I can't imagine it causing an issue.

  Self-hosted box, RHEL 6 PHP 5.3.3 PDO installed freetds installed pdo_dblib - so far no luck installing My goal is to use PDO with sybase. Attempting to install pdo_dblib from the appropriate version php source code. I have tried a variety of methods and searched quite a bit for help on this topic, but have yet to be successful. But changing pdo.ini to pdo_0.ini was not the solution, as I still got the same errors on make test. $ su $ make install Output: Installing shared extensions: /usr/lib64/php/modules/ That seems strange...and no, it doesn't actually install (not showing up on phpinfo after apache restart). Method 2 Install freetds following the instructions exactly, i add the prefix $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/freetds $ make $ su root Password: $ make install This is successful Install pdo_dblib inside the /ext/pdo_dblib folder: $ phpize $ ./configure --with-sybase=/usr/local/freetds This produces the following error at the bottom of the output ... checking for PDO_DBLIB support via FreeTDS... yes, shared configure: error: Cannot find FreeTDS in known installation directories Method 3 freetds ./configure variation (including or not include the --prefix...) did not change the result of this so I'll skip it. Install pdo_dblib pecl extension following the method specified here. pecl download pdo_dblib tar -xzvf PDO_DBLIB-1.0.tgz Removed the line, <dep type=”ext” rel=”ge” version=”1.0?>pdo</dep> Saved the package.xml file, and moved it in to the PDO_DBLIB directory. mv package.xml ./PDO_DBLIB-1.0 Navigated to the PDO_DBLIB directory, then installed the package from the directory. cd ./PDO_DBLIB-1.0 pecl install package.xml But, this command gives me the following error output, same as Method 2. checking for PDO_DBLIB support via FreeTDS... yes, shared configure: error: Cannot find FreeTDS in known installation directories ERROR: `/home/sybase/Install_items/pecl_pdo_dblib/PDO_DBLIB-1.0/configure' failed

• Using Private Browsing keyboard shortcut with Firefox and Vimperator

  I am using Firefox 15.0 on OS X Mountain Lion alongside with vimperator. Note that I am using a Windows keyboard. CtrlP is for moving focus to left tab in vimperator. However, the latest Firefox has also CtrlP to enable private browsing. I looked for private browsing with FF "Customizable Shortcuts" addon but there is only CommandShiftP binding associated to it. How can the CtrlP private browsing binding be turned off?

• Make vhdresizer work on XP Mode VHD files

  I'm trying to shrink a Windows 7 XP Mode VHD file with VhdResizer with little success. When I select my VHD file, it says "VhdExpand only supports fixed and dynamic VHD files". My XP Mode VHDs are dynamic files. Does anyone have any idea why it is failing? Failing that, does anyone have a process that I can use to shrink my XP mode VHD files? Thanks.

  I've configured a 3G IP Gateway of mine to connect using IKE Phase 1 Aggressive Mode with PSK to my openswan installation running on Ubuntu server 12.04. What other explanation for the failure is there? (The 3G Gateway I'm using on the right is a Moxa G3150, by the way.)

  On an OS/2 box, what do the flags UGDP mean in the output of netstat -r. Google seems to point to them meaning Up, Gateway (i.e. an indirect root), and Dynamic (learned from a redirect), but that leaves me mystified as to the meaning of P. The only suggestion I've had is permanent but that doesn't make any sense with dynamic. Any ideas?

• Do I dare clicking Delete Volume instead of Delete Partition?

That VM has a virtual disk which in windows is configured with two partitions and then a lot of slack space, as illustrated here: http://piclair.com/q8g5s What I want to do is delete the partition of 639 GB. However, since it's a dynamic disk, the right menu item says "Delete Volume" instead of "Delete Partition" (when I right click the 639GB space). My question is weather I dare to use "Delete Volume". I have read doing stuff like this on a dynamic volume can cause other partitions/volumes to go corrupt.

  Gnome Shell by default uses the Super (Windows) key to display the activities overview. But I'd prefer to use the Super key to invoke Synapse. Right now I have to press Super+Super+Spacebar in order to invoke Synapse which is annoying (Super+Spacebar is the binding to invoke Synapse). Is there any way to remove the default Gnome Shell mapping? In the keyboard shortcuts system settings, only the Alt+F1 binding appears for the activities overview action.

• Trying to run WCF web service on non-domain VM, Security Errors

  Am I in a Catch-22 situation here? My goal is to take a WCF service that I inherited, and run it on a VM and test it by calling it from my desktop PC. The VM is in a workgroup, and not in the company's domain. Basically, we need more test environments, ideally one per developer (we may have 2 to 4 people that need this). Thus the idea of the VM was that each developer could have his own web server that somewhat matches or real environment (where we actually have two websites, an external/exposed and internal). [Using VS2010 .NET 4.0] In the internal service, each method was decorated with this attribute: [OperationBehavior(Impersonation = ImpersonationOption.Required)] I'm still researching why this was needed. I think it's because a webapp calls the "internal" service, and either a) we need the credentials of the user, or b) we may doing some PrinciplePermission.Demands to see if the user is in a group. My interest is creating some ConsoleTest programs or UnitTest programs. I changed to allowed like this: [OperationBehavior(Impersonation = ImpersonationOption.Allowed)] because I was getting this error in trying to view the .svc in the browser: The contract operation 'EditAccountFamily' requires Windows identity for automatic impersonation. A Windows identity that represents the caller is not provided by binding ('WSHttpBinding','http://tempuri.org/') for contract ('IAdminService','http://tempuri.org/'. I don't get that error with the original bindings look like this: However, I believe I need to turn off this security since the web service is not on the domain. I tend to get these errors in the client: 1) The request for security token could not be satisfied because authentication failed - as an InnerException of "SecurityNegotiation was unhandled". or 2) The caller was not authenticated by the service as an InnerException of "SecurityNegotiation was unhandled". So can I create some configuration of code and web.config that will allow each developer to work on his own VM? Or must I join the VM to the domain? The number of permutations seems near endless. I've started to create a Word.doc that says what to do with each error, but now I'm in the catch-22 where I'm stuck.
