  • How to set Laptop Brightness in Gnome and /proc on Thinkpad W510?

    I can set the brightness of my laptop screen already via /proc. I can read and change the value. Now I've set the value to 33 and then I went into gnome power management and enabled the option that it should reduce the backlight brightness being on battery. That works, the screen gets darker. If I now read out the current setting from /proc it still says it's 33. So I assume that there is another node in /proc to be used to control the brightness. The node I use so far is: /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness I'm using the nouveau driver. With the nvida driver the brightness can not be controlled.

  • Add rel="xx" to jQuery a.link elements

    I use a little jQuery script to run a simple music player, but I'd like to add a rel="player" to the links in this jQuery script (the play/stop button for instance). This way I can exclude these rel="player" links from another jQuery script I use, because I don't want it to take the rel="player" elements into account.   • trie reg exp parse step over char and continue

    Setup: 1) a string trie database formed from linked nodes and a vector array linking to the next node terminating in a leaf, 2) a recursive regular expression function that if A) char '*' continues down all paths until string length limit is reached, then continues down remaining string paths if valid, and B) char '?' continues down all paths for 1 char and then continues down remaining string paths if valid. 3) after reg expression the candidate strings are measured for edit distance against the 'try' string. Problem: the reg expression works fine for adding chars or swapping ? for a char but if the remaining string has an error then there is not a valid path to a terminating leaf; making the matching function redundant. I tried adding a 'step-over' ? char if the end of the node vector was reached and then followed every path of that node - allowing this step-over only once; resulted in a memory exception; I cannot find logically why it is accessing the vector out of range - bactracking? Questions: 1) how can the regular expression step over an invalid char and continue with the path? 2) why is swapping the 'sticking' char for '?' resulting in an overflow? Still have other issues to work out - it loops infinitely adding the ? and backtracking to remove it, then repeat. But, moving forward now. Revised question: why during backtracking is the position index accumulating and/or not deincrementing - so at somepoint it calls w->alpha[pos]... with an invalid position that is either remaining from the next node or somehow incremented pos+1 when passing upward?

  • Methodology to understanding JQuery plugin & API's developed by third parties

    I have a question about third party created JQuery plug ins and API's and the methodology for understanding them. Recently I downloaded the JQuery Masonry/Infinite scroll plug in and I couldn't figure out how to configure it based on the instructions. So I downloaded a fully developed demo, then manually deleted everything that wouldn't break the functionality. The code that was left allowed me to understand the plug in much greater detail than the documentation. I'm now having a similar issue with a plug in called JQuery knob. http://anthonyterrien.com/knob/ If you look at the JQuery Knob readme file it says this is working code: <input type="text" value="75" class="dial"> $(function() { $('.dial') .trigger( 'configure', { "min":10, "max":40, "fgColor":"#FF0000", "skin":"tron", "cursor":true } ); }); But as far as I can tell it isn't at all. The read me also says the Plug in uses Canvas. I am wondering if I am suppose to wrap this code in a canvas context or if this functionality is already part of the plug in. I know this kind of "question" might not fit in here but I'm a bit confused on the assumptions around reading these kinds of documentation and thought I would post the query regardless. Curious to see if this is due to my "newbi" programming experience or if this is something seasoned coders also fight with. Thank you. Edit In response to Tyanna's reply.   • MMS gets hostname from uname and can't connect to it

    I'm trying to get 10gen's MongoDB Monitoring Service monitoring my 3-node replica set. The replica set running in an AWS VPC. Each node runs on a different [virtual] machine. Assume their IPs are 192.168.1.1 (primary or secondary), 192.168.1.2 (primary or secondary), 192.168.1.3 (arbiter). From a quick look at the source, MMS appears to get the hostname of the machine it is running on like so: platform.uname()[1] For my VPC EC2 instance, this returns something like ip-192-168-1-1 MMS then tries to connect to this hostname, which does not resolve. I'd rather just use IP addresses (since they're always static), but it seems like the hardcoded use of platform.uname()[1] in mmsAgent.py precludes that. So, what's an elegant way out of this? Hack /etc/hosts? I'm not setting up a DNS server just for this. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding how to configure MMS.

    I am adapting the Coverflow technique to work with a div. The coverflow function (included as a js file in the head section) is here. When I dynamically add a DIV, it doesn't show up in the coverflow. I am wondering if there is a way to add a destroy function to this js file so that whenever a new div add is added, I can call the destroy method and then reinstantiate. Any suggestions on how I should go about doing this?

  • Dell PowerEdge 2950 III running XenServer with 2 VMs gets sluggish after a week and needs rebooted?

    It has weird hangs and then random CPU spikes that do a ton at once. While remoted into the VMs I get an update all at once then it hangs for another 20 seconds. When it lets it go through I get a CPU spike. Basic server specs for the HW node is: 8 CPUs, 16GB ram 1TB HDD total iPERC6 raid 10 The VMs are barely used but I have them spec'd at VM 1: 4 CPUs, 4GB Ram VM2: 4 CPUs 6GB ram The HW node currently says it's total CPU usage is 11% AND Used Memory is at 63%out of 16GB I'm new to this stuff so I'm not sure. I just recently installed this and set it all up. Please advise if you can!

Meaning, the sub-string from the place i until the end of the string. Assume the value of i is in the right range. public StringList substring (int i, int j) - returns the list of the substring that begins in the place i and ends in the place j (not included) in the string it operates on. Assume the values of i, j are in the right range. public int length() - will return the length of the string on which it operates. Pay attention to all the possible error cases. Write what is the time complexity and space complexity of every method that you wrote. Make sure the methods you wrote are effective. It is NOT allowed to use ready classes of Java. It is NOT allowed to move to string and use string operations.

Is there any way that I can check whether or not an alert() was executed on a remote site? Like if I inputted an alert("Welcome to this site"); through a get variable, is there any way to check if it that alert() was actually executed in the browser? And not necessarily through AJAX/JS.

  • Drupal + GMap macro, map markers not displayed

    Hi. I've run into a strange problem in the GMap module for Drupal. When I display a map inside a node using a GMap macro, everything is displayed correctly (according to what I specify in the macro or leave at default), save for map markers. I'm trying to specify a map marker, but it refuses to be displayed. My macro is the following: [gmap zoom=17 |center=53.77420697757659,20.474138259887695 |markers=big blue::53.77420697757659,20.474138259887695] I was unable to find any help on Drupal forums, both the official one and one local to my country. For completeness' sake, I do not wish to use a GMap view, just add a macro in a regular node. Hope you can help me find a solution. Thanks in advance for your replies...

  • Render as html from a remote link on Rails

    On my registration form i want to show a modal (of twitter-bootstrap) when the user has a successfull signup to tell him to check his email so i put "remote: true" on my form and render a .js.erb wich shows the modal, on my controller. BUT, in case of inputs errors i need to render the page as html to refresh de form showing those errors. Can I call the controller from the remote form as JS but render as html? (or any other idea to do what i want) Thanks!
