  • Big problems on iPhone ad hoc build -

    - by phil swenson
No matter what I do I can't get my ad hoc provisioning profile to work. In Organizer, I always get "A valid signing identity matching this profile cannot be found in your keychain" for my adhoc profile. I have my distribution cert installed in my login keychain. I dragged the adhoc mobileprovision file to XCode... that's pretty much all there is to it, right? I searched around and found suggestions like re-creating the cert/profile. Did that, same thing. Also make sure your login keychain is default. It is. Even tried a different computer. Same result. In XCode AdHoc target I don't have a distribution target to pick. This all used to work, but obviously I messed something up..... Perhaps my process is just wrong (it's been months since I did this). Does someone have a step by step list of how to set up for adhoc distribution?

  • Android Screen Density Compatibility on 1.5

    - by fordays
Hi, I'm getting ready to release my first application the marketplace. It's being written for devices running Android 1.5 and above, however there aren't any specific folders for the three different screen densities (I think those came around in 1.6). Should I make these folders myself? Where should I put image resources for the different densities and what should I put in my Manifest??

  • Is there an easy way to change iPhone Application Settings from within an application?

    - by Matt
I've got application settings working just fine. However, I'd like to be able to change my app settings from within my app. It seems as though there should be some kind of generic way to add this functionality to my app without having to recreate all the controls myself. I mean, the code is already written in apple's settings app. Maybe someone wrote this code and open sourced it? (if it is not already available)

  • Implement delegates for Core Data's fetched results controller or not

  • How does Amazon's Statistically Improbable Phrases work?

    - by ??iu
How does something like Statistically Improbable Phrases work? According to amazon: Amazon.com's Statistically Improbable Phrases, or "SIPs", are the most distinctive phrases in the text of books in the Search Inside!™ program. To identify SIPs, our computers scan the text of all books in the Search Inside! program. If they find a phrase that occurs a large number of times in a particular book relative to all Search Inside! books, that phrase is a SIP in that book. SIPs are not necessarily improbable within a particular book, but they are improbable relative to all books in Search Inside!. For example, most SIPs for a book on taxes are tax related. But because we display SIPs in order of their improbability score, the first SIPs will be on tax topics that this book mentions more often than other tax books. For works of fiction, SIPs tend to be distinctive word combinations that often hint at important plot elements. For instance, for Joel's first book, the SIPs are: leaky abstractions, antialiased text, own dog food, bug count, daily builds, bug database, software schedules One interesting complication is that these are phrases of either 2 or 3 words. This makes things a little more interesting because these phrases can overlap with or contain each other.

  • Performing selectors on main thread with NSInvocation

    - by kpower
    I want to perform animation on main thread (cause UIKit objects are not thread-safe), but prepare it in some separate thread. I have (baAnimation - is CABasicAnimation allocated & inited before): SEL animationSelector = @selector(addAnimation:forKey:); NSString *keyString = @"someViewAnimation"; NSInvocation *inv = [NSInvocation invocationWithMethodSignature:[workView.layer methodSignatureForSelector:animationSelector]]; [inv setTarget:workView.layer]; [inv setSelector:animationSelector]; [inv setArgument:baAnimation atIndex:2]; [inv setArgument:keyString atIndex:3]; [inv performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(invoke) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:NO]; I get: *** +[NSCFString length]: unrecognized selector sent to class 0x1fb36a0 Calls: > #0 0x020984e6 in objc_exception_throw > #1 0x01f7e8fb in +[NSObject doesNotRecognizeSelector:] > #2 0x01f15676 in ___forwarding___ > #3 0x01ef16c2 in __forwarding_prep_0___ > #4 0x01bb3c21 in -[CALayer addAnimation:forKey:] > #5 0x01ef172d in __invoking___ > #6 0x01ef1618 in -[NSInvocation invoke] But [workView.layer addAnimation:baAnimation forKey:@"someViewAnimation"]; works fine. What am I doing wrong?

  • Custom cell and Delete/Move indicators

    - by Kamchatka
Hello, I have a custom UITableViewCell. However, when I got in edit mode, I don't have any Delete and Move indicators appearing. The custom cell draws itself in the contentView. In layoutSubviews, I make sure there is space on the left and one the right of the contentView so that the controls can appear (if this was the problem). - (void)layoutSubviews { self.contentView.frame = CGRectMake(50, 0, self.frame.size.width - 100, sub.thumbnail.size.height + 20); } In the UITableViewController, I return YES in: - (BOOL)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView canMoveRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { How could I solve this lack of interactivity. Is there something specific for custom cells? Thanks!

  • How can I simply change a class variable from another class in ObjectiveC?

    - by Daniel
    I simply want to change a variable of an object from another class. I can compile without a problem, but my variable always is set to 'null'. I used the following code: Object.h: @interface Object : NSObject { //... NSString *color; //... } @property(nonatomic, retain) NSString* color; + (id)Object; - (void)setColor:(NSString*)col; - (NSString*)getColor; @end Object.m: +(id)Object{ return [[[Object alloc] init] autorelease]; } - (void)setColor:(NSString*)col { self.color = col; } - (NSString*)getColor { return self.color; } MyViewController.h #import "Object.h" @interface ClassesTestViewController : UIViewController { Object *myObject; UILabel *label1; } @property UILabel *label1; @property (assign) Object *myObject; @end MyViewController.m: #import "Object.h" @implementation MyViewController @synthesize myObject; - (void)viewDidLoad { [myObject setColor:@"red"]; NSLog(@"Color = %@", [myObject getColor]); [super viewDidLoad]; } The NSLog message is always Color = (null) I tried many different ways to solve this problem, but no success. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Android OS 2.2 Permissions: I have absolutely no idea why this simple piece of code doesn't work. Wh

    - by Kevin
I'm just playing around with some code. I create an Activity and simply do something like this: long lo = currentTimeMillis(); System.out.println(lo); lo *= 3; System.out.println(lo); SystemClock.setCurrentTimeMillis(lo); System.out.println( currentTimeMillis() ); Yes, in my AndroidManifest.xml, I've added: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_TIME"></uses-permission> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.SET_TIME_ZONE"></uses-permission> Nothing changes. The SystemClock is never reset...it just keeps on ticking. The error that I'm getting just says that the permission "SET_TIME" was not granted to the program. Protection level 3. The permissions are there...and in the API for 2.2 it says that this feature is supported now. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. If android.content.Intent; comes into play, please explain. I don't really understand what the idea behind intents! Thanks for any help!

  • CGContextShowTextAtPoint: invalid context

    - by coure06
I want to call a method responsible for drawing text on screen after each 5 seconds. Here is my code -(void) handleTimer: (NSTimer *)timer { CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, currentColor.CGColor); CGContextTranslateCTM(context, 145.0, 240.0); CGContextScaleCTM(context, 1.0, -1.0); CGContextSelectFont(context, "Arial", 18, kCGEncodingMacRoman); CGContextSetCharacterSpacing(context, 1); CGContextSetTextDrawingMode(context, kCGTextFillStroke); CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor(context, 0.5,0.5,1,1); CGContextShowTextAtPoint(context, 100, 100, "01", 2); } But after 5 seconds when this method is called i am getting this error CGContextShowTextAtPoint: invalid context Another thing is how to show a thinner font?

  • How do I keep from running out of memory on graphics for an Android app?

    - by user279112
I've been working on an Android app in Eclipse, and so far, my program hasn't really grown past midget size. However I've already run into an issue with an Out of Memory error. You see, I've been using graphics comprised solely of bitmaps and PNGs in this program, and recently, when I tried to add a little bit more functionality to the program (mainly including a few more bitmaps and causing an extra sprite to be created), it started crashing in the graphics thread's constructor - sprite's constructor. When I tracked the problem down, it turned out to be an Out of Memory error that is seemingly caused by adding too many picture files to the program and creating Drawables out of them. This would be a problem, as I really don't have that many picture resources worked into that program...maybe 20 or so. I haven't even started to include sound yet. These images aren't all that fancy. My questions are this: 1) Are programs for the Android phone really that limited on how much memory they can employ, or is it probably something other than the 20-30 resource pictures causing that error? 2) If the memory for Android apps is so awful it can't even handle 20-30 picture resources being loaded into Drawables that exist at the same time, then how in the world are you supposed to make decent graphics and sound for that thing? Thanks.

  • Saving data in custom class via AppDelegate

    - by redspike
I can't seem to save data to a custom instance object in my AppDelegate. My custom class is very simple and is as follows: Person.h ... @interface Person : NSObject { int _age; } - (void) setAge: (int) age; - (int) age; @end Person.m #import "Person.h" @implementation Person - (void) setAge:(int) age { _age = age; } - (int) age { return _age; } @end I then create an instance of Person in the AppDelegate class: AppDelegate.h @class Person; @interface AccuTaxAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { ... Person *person; } ... @property (nonatomic, retain) Person *person; @end AppDelegate.m ... #import "Person.h" @implementation AccuTaxAppDelegate ... @synthesize person; - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // Override point for customization after app launch [window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } - (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application { // Save data if appropriate } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Memory management - (void)dealloc { [navigationController release]; [window release]; [person release]; [super dealloc]; } @end Finally, in my ViewController code I grab a handle on AppDelegate and then grab the person instance, but when I try to save the age it doesn't seem to work: MyViewController ... - (void)textFieldDidEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField { NSString *textAge = [textField text]; int age = [textAge intValue]; NSLog(@"Age from text field::%i", age); AppDelegate *appDelegate = (AppDelegate *)[UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate; Person *myPerson = (Person *)[appDelegate person]; NSLog(@"Age before setting: %i", [myPerson age]); [myPerson setAge:age]; NSLog(@"Age after setting: %i", [myPerson age]); [textAge release]; } ... The output of the above NSLogs are: [Session started at 2010-05-04 18:29:22 +0100.] 2010-05-04 18:29:28.260 AccuTax[16235:207] Age in text field:25 2010-05-04 18:29:28.262 AccuTax[16235:207] Age before setting: 0 2010-05-04 18:29:28.263 AccuTax[16235:207] Age after setting: 0 Any ideas why 'age' isn't being stored? I'm relatively new to Obj-C so please forgive me if I'm missing something very simple!

    - by dusker
Hi all, i'm looking for a way to draw multiple images (downloaded from a webservice) inside a single uiimageview. So it'd go like i downloaded image #1, and i'd like to draw it inside rect (0,0,100,100) then #2 at (0,100,100,100) etc. I'd like to then be able to take the entire composition and save it as an image in camera roll. thanks in advance for help greetings peter

  • Most efficient way to download media files from a server from within an iPhone app.

    - by nikki
Hi, I have an iPhone application which contains a lot of media files, so far we have been able to keep the size of the iPhone app to less than 20 MB. We add new content with new updates, it would be difficult to keep the app size within the 20 MB limit. The right thing to do here would be to fetch the files on demand from a media/web server. If you have any pointers on how to go about doing this, please suggest. What we would need is to fetch the media files (.jpg/.png images ) on demand when the user taps on a small thumbnail for the image. Are there existing frameworks/servers that provide such services to iPhone clients. Thanks.

  • View controller/NIB architecture for non-navigation application with transitions?

    - by Ben
I'm tinkering with an app that doesn't use the UINavigation root view control system, so I don't have natural ownership for each app "view". I essentially have two basic views, a document list view, and a document edit view. I'm playing with UIView animation for getting from a selected document to the edit view. I also have a toolbar that exists in both "views". Because I don't have UINavigation running the show for me, I have a tendency to just throw more and more stuff into one NIB and one view controller that owns the whole container. But now I'm trying to figure out how to segue from the document list view to the edit view if the edit view lives inside a different NIB, preserving the toolbar too. Anyone have thoughts or experience on app structures like this? I find the docs lacking on best practices around code/UI structure for anything except trivial one-screen apps or full-on navigation apps. Thanks!

  • [iPhone] How to order an array

    - by Fabrizio
Hi all, I got an array in my app and I need to order by one of its key. Basically what the app does is taking latitude and longitude somewhere, calculate the distance from my actual position and create an array containing a key called "distance". I'm using myArray sortUsingDescriptors: [NSArray arrayWithObject:[[[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"distance" ascending:YES] autorelease]]]; I'm not sure it's working, I mean the first results are ordered but then it shows distance closer to the previous, as example: 0.8 km 1.6 km 1.9 km 10053.9 km 1098.0 km 2372.0 km 470.5 km Any suggestion? I thank you in advance for any kind of help. Fabrizio

  • Returning NSNull from actionForLayer:forKey

    - by MrHen
If I implement the CALayer delegate method actionForLayer:forKey I can return [NSNull null] to force the CALayer to not animate any changes. Unfortunately, [NSNull null] doesn't implement the CAAction delegate and XCode kicks out the following warning: warning: class 'NSNull' does not implement the 'CAAction' protocol Here is the method code: - (id<CAAction>)actionForLayer:(CALayer *)theLayer forKey:(NSString *)theKey { //This disables the animations when moving things around //Also, don't animate the selection box. It was doing weird things if(undoGroupStarted || theLayer == self.selectionBox) { return [NSNull null]; } else { return nil; } } Am I doing something wrong? Is returning [NSNull null] bad behavior? If so, what is another way to do what I am trying to do here? If not, how do I make the compiler happy?
