  • Applying a style to items in Android Gallery

    Hello World! Is their any way to apply a style resource to customize the Item Border in the Gallery Class with Android? I'm trying to hide or change the color of the default Grey border but by the looks of things this isn't possible? Any help or tips you can provide would be fantastic. Appreciated, Tom

    Do we have to explicitly manage database resources when using Spring Framework.. liking closing all open connections etc? I have read that Spring relieves developer from such boiler plate coding... This is to answer an error that I am getting in a Spring web app: org.springframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded The jdbcTemplate is configured in the xml file and the DAO implementation has reference to this jdbcTemplate bean which is used to query the database.

  • PHP mySQL database check

    Hi guys, I am having endless troubles with duplicate entries, so I need to check the database, and if a user has already entered that day, their entry will not be submitted and they will be redirected to a landing page that tells them they have already entered that day, and that they may only enter again tomorrow. The field I would like to check is the id_number field in the database, since each user has a unique id number, so basically, if a user with the same id number submitted on the same date they should be redirected to a landing page, how would I go about doing this? I am still new to a lot of this, so please be forgiving. Thanx in advance.

    I have a question about postDelayed. The android docs say that it adds the runnable to the queue and it runs in the UI thread. What does this mean? So, for example, the same thread I use to create my layout is used to run the Runnable? What if I want it as an independent thread that executes while I am creating my layout and defining my activity? Thanks Chris

The same operation, sending a message to from gPhone to the PC, returns different results in different time: Sometimes succeeded and sometimes throws a SocketExcepton(The system call was cancelled).     Hi, I have an activity that uses VideoView and MediaController. I have a .mp4 file. (1) When I put the file in res/raw folder, I can play the video using Uri.parse("android.resource://<package>/" + R.raw.id_video) (2) However, when I put the same file in the file-system, it plays properly.   • PHP 2D Array to MySQL Database

    I have a PHP 2D array, many keys, each with one value, I need to put this into a MySQL database. The database has 8 fields. Eg. Field1, Field2, Field3, etc. I am trying to ensure value1 => field1, value2 =>field2, value3 => field3 and so on, when one record is full (i.e. after 8 values) a new record should be created for the next 8 values and so on. I am aware that the 1st, 9th, 17th, 26th values etc, will need an insert statement and the intermediate values will be an update statement. What is the best way of going about this?

  • Simple database design and LINQ

    I have very little experience designing databases, and now I want to create a very simple database that does the same thing I have previously had in xml. Here's the xml: <services> <service type="writing"> <small>125</small> <medium>100</medium> <large>60</large> <xlarge>30</xlarge> </service> <service type="analysis"> <small>56</small> <medium>104</medium> <large>200</large> <xlarge>250</xlarge> </service> </services> Now, I wanted to create the same thing in a SQL database, and started doing this ( hope this formats ok, but you'll get the gist, four columns and two rows): > ServiceType Small Medium Large > > Writing 125 100 60 > > Analysis 56 104 200 This didn't work too well, since I then wanted to use LINQ to select, say, the Large value for Writing (60). But I couldn't use LINQ for this (as far as I know) and use a variable for the size (see parameters in the method below). I could only do that if I had a column like "Size" where Small, Medium, and Large would be the values. But that doesn't feel right either, because then I would get several rows with ServiceType = Writing (3 in this case, one for each size), and the same for Analysis. And if I were to add more servicetypes I would have to do the same. Simply repetitive... Is there any smart way to do this using relationships or something? Using the second design above (although not good), I could use the following LINQ to select a value with parameters sent to the method: protected int GetHourRateDB(string serviceType, Size size) { CalculatorLinqDataContext context = new CalculatorLinqDataContext(); var data = (from calculatorData in context.CalculatorDatas where calculatorData.Service == serviceType && calculatorData.Size == size.ToString() select calculatorData).Single(); return data.Hours; } But if there is another better design, could you please also describe how to do the same selection using LINQ with that design?     Hi folks, i wish to draw up some database schemas. Eg, table 1 has zero to many rows in table 2, etc. It's purely for visual purposes (eg. no sql code, etc). Are there any online tools / website that offer this? (please don't say: Use Sql Server Database Diagrams, print screen, upload to image hosting service). thanks :) EDIT: Please take note of the keyword - ONLINE. I don't want any desktop solutions (because I already have one of these).

  • Caching web page data, Database or File

    I am creating an RSS reader application that requests the RSS from my server. I mean, the RSS is first downloaded to my server, then application downloads it from my server. I want to create RSS cache for this. And for example, each RSS would be refreshed every 1 minute. So, If 10 users request RSS of example.com in 1 minute, my server will download it only for the first time, and in other 9 requests, RSS will be loaded from cache. My question is, Should I use a Database (MSSQL) for this purpose? or I should use files? I have no limit in Database size nor in file size... EDIT: I'm using ASP.NET for the server.

  • Android problem: BufferedReader wont read whole stream into a string

    Hi all! I'm making an android program that retrieves content of a webpage using HttpURLConnection. I'm new to both Java and Android. Problem is: Reader reads whole page source, but in the last while iteration it doesn't append to stringBuffer that last part. Using debbuger I have determined that, in the last loop iteration, string buff is created, but stringBuffer just doesnt append it. I need to parse retrieved content. Is there any better way to handle the content for parsing than using strings. I've read on numerous other sites that string size in Java is limited only by available heap size. Anyone know what could be the problem. Btw feel free to suggest any improvements to the code. Thanks!   • Creating database desktop application with data manipulation in Netbeans using Java Persistence

    It's my first time to use Persistence in developing a Java program because I usually connect via JDBC. I read that for large amounts of data, it is best to use persistence. I tried playing with the CRUD example of Netbeans. It's not very helpful thought because it only connects to the DB and allows addition and deletion of records. I need something that will allow me to manipulate the data like if the value from column C1 of table T1 is such, it will retrieve data from table t2. In short, I need to apply conditions before knowing what to retrieve exactly. The example in CRUD example already has a specific table to retrieve and only acts like a database manager. How is it possible to retrieve a specific item first then from this, will determine the next steps to be done. I'm also using embedded JavaDB/Derby as my database (also my first time to use because I usually use remote mysql)

  • Trying to setup android sdk on PC with windows XP

    When I start setup I get this message: XML verification failed for http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml. Error: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element 'sdk:sdk-repository'. Failed to fetch URL reason: Unknown Even when I force the download to use http nothing happens. I get no downloads etc for the SDK. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Representing a schedule in a database

    I have the interesting problem of representing complex schedule data in a database. I need to be able to represent the entirety of what the iCalendar (ics) format can represent, but in my database. I don't care about insertion efficiency but query efficiency is critical. The operation I will be doing most often is providing either a single date/time or a date/time range, and trying to determine if the defined schedule matches any part of the date/time range. Other operations can be slower. For those unfamiliar, ics allows representation of a single event or a reoccuring event based on multiple times per day, days of the week, week of a month, month, year, or some combination of those. For example, the third Thursday in November, or the 25th of December, or every two weeks starting November 2nd and continuing until September the following year. Any suggestions?

  • Thoughts/Input about Database Design for a CMS

    I'm just about to expand the functionality of our own CMS but was thinking of restructuring the database to make it simpler to add/edit data types and values. Currently, the CMS is quite flat - the CMS requires a field in the database for every type of stored value (manually created). The first option that comes to mind is simply a table which keeps the data types (ie: Address 1, Suburb, Email Address etc) and another table which holds values for each of these data types. Just like how Wordpress keeps values in the 'options' table, PHP serialize would be used to store an array of values. The second option is how Drupal works, the CMS creates tables for every data type. Unlike Wordpress, this can be a bit of an overkill but really useful for SQL queries when ordering and grouping by a particular value. What's everyone's thoughts?

  • Lost cert for published app

    I have a free app published in Android market. I have lost the certificate used to sign the current version but I want to publish an updated version. Android market refuses to accept my upgrade because it is signed by a new certificate. I realize the users will have to uninstall the current version to get the upgrade but it's not clear how to get the updated version into the market so that the current users will find it.
