  • Java: How to check the random letters from a-z, out of 10 letters minimum 2 letter should be a vowel

    - by kalandar
    I am writing a program to validate the following scenarios: Scenario 1: I am using the Random class from java.util. The random class will generate 10 letters from a-z and within 10 letter, minimum 2 letters must be a vowels. Scenario 2: When the player 1 and player 2 form a word from A-Z, he will score some points. There will be a score for each letter. I have already assigned the values for A-Z. At the end of the game, the system should display a scores for player 1 and player 2. How do i do it? Please help. I will post my code here. Thanks a lot. =========================================== import java.util.Random; import java.util.Scanner; public class FindYourWords { public static void main(String[] args) { Random rand = new Random(); Scanner userInput = new Scanner(System.in); //==================Player object=============================================== Player playerOne = new Player(); playerOne.wordScore = 0; playerOne.choice = "blah"; playerOne.turn = true; Player playerTwo = new Player(); playerTwo.wordScore = 0; playerTwo.choice = "blah"; playerTwo.turn = false; //================== Alphabet ================================================== String[] newChars = { "a", "b", "c", "d", "e", "f", "g", "h", "i", "j", "k", "l", "m", "n", "o", "p", "q", "r", "s", "t", "u", "v", "w", "x", "y", "z" }; //values of the 26 alphabets to be used int [] letterScore = {1,3,3,2,1,4,2,4,1,8,5,1,3,1,1,3,10,1,1,1,1,4,4,8,4,10}; // to assign score to the player1 and player 2 String[] vowel = { "a", "e", "i", "o", "u" }; // values for vowels int vow=0; System.out.println("FINDYOURWORDS\n"); int[] arrayRandom = new int[10]; //int array for word limiter String[] randomLetter = new String[10]; //storing the letters in newChars into this array //=============================================================================== boolean cont = true; while (cont) { if (playerOne.turn) { System.out.print("Letters of Player 1: "); } else if (!playerOne.turn) { System.out.print("Letters of Player 2: "); } for (int i = 0; i < arrayRandom.length; i++) { //running through the array limiter int r = rand.nextInt(newChars.length); //assigning random nums to the array of letters randomLetter[i] = newChars[r]; System.out.print(randomLetter[i]+ " "); } //input section for player System.out.println(""); System.out.println("Enter your word (or '@' to pass or '!' to quit): "); if (playerOne.turn) { playerOne.choice = userInput.next(); System.out.println(playerOne.turn); playerOne.turn = false; } else if (!playerOne.turn){ playerTwo.choice = userInput.next(); System.out.println(playerOne.turn); playerOne.turn = true; } //System.out.println(choice); String[] wordList = FileUtil.readDictFromFile("words.txt"); //Still dunno what this is for if (playerOne.choice.equals("@")) { playerOne.turn = false; } else if (playerTwo.choice.equals("@")) { playerOne.turn = true; } else if (playerOne.choice.equals("!")) { cont = false; } for (int i = 0; i < wordList.length; i++) { //System.out.println(wordList[i]); if (playerOne.choice.equalsIgnoreCase(wordList[i]) || playerTwo.choice.equalsIgnoreCase(wordList[i])){ } } } }}

  • Hibernate Search + Spring

    - by Zane
I'm trying to integrate Hibernate Search with Spring, but I can't seem to index anything. I was able to get Hibernate Search to work without Spring, but I'm having a problem integrating it with Spring. Any help would be much appreciated. Below is my springmvc-servlet.xml: <bean id="transactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory" /> </bean> <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="enewsclipsPersistenceUnit" /> </bean> And here is my DAO class: @Repository public class SearchDaoImpl implements SearchDao { JpaTemplate jpaTemplate; @Autowired public SearchDaoImpl(EntityManagerFactory entityManagerFactory) { this.jpaTemplate = new JpaTemplate(entityManagerFactory); } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public void updateSearchIndex() { /* Implement the callback method */ jpaTemplate.execute(new JpaCallback() { public Object doInJpa(EntityManager em) throws PersistenceException { List<Article> articles = em.createQuery("select a from Article a").getResultList(); FullTextEntityManager ftEm = Search.getFullTextEntityManager(em); ftEm.getTransaction().begin(); for(Article article : articles) { System.out.println("Indexing Item " + article.getTitle()); ftEm.index(article); } ftEm.getTransaction().commit(); return null; } }); } } I think that it may have to do with the transactions but I'm not exactly sure. If you could just point me in the right direction, that would be helpful too! Thank you.

  • Open source LINQ search engine for website

    - by Noel
I want to add a search engine to my website. I want it to handler boolean searches and give me a list of results in order or best match. I need it to be able to work with LINQ, because I want to add additional where clauses to the final query that gets run. I am looking for the best open source .NET search engine that works with LINQ. I like lucene.net but the problem is the LINQ interface (LINQ to Lucene) hasn't been updated since 2008. Are there any good options out there?

  • How to use LINQ to SQL to create ranked search results?

    - by quakkels
I am looking for a way to use l2s to return ranked result based on keywords. I would like to take a keyword and be able to search the table for that keyword using .contains(). The trick that I haven't been able to figure out is how to get a count of how many times that keyqord appears, and then .OrderByDescending() based on that count. So if i had some thing like: string keyword = "SomeKeyword"; IQueryable<Article> searchResults = from a in GenesisRepository.Article where a.Body.Contains(keyword) select a; What is the best way to order searchResults based on the number of times keyword appears in a.Body? Thanks for any help.

  • How to column-ify an output from a certain program?

    - by mbaitoff
    I have a program that generates and outputs a sequence of simple sample math homework tasks, like: 1 + 1 = ... 3 + 3 = ... 2 + 5 = ... 3 + 7 = ... 4 + 2 = ... a sequence can be quite long, and I'd like to save space when this sequence is printed by converting it as follows: 1 + 1 = ... 3 + 7 = ... 3 + 3 = ... 4 + 2 = ... 2 + 5 = ... that is, wrapping the lines into the two or more columns. I was expecting the column linux utility to do the job using the -c N option witn N=2, however, it still outputs the lines in one column whatever the N is. How would I do the column-ifying of the sequence of lines?

  • How to extract a single function from a source file

    - by Adam Matan
Hi, I'm working on a small academic research about extremely long and complicated functions in the Linux kernel. I'm trying to figure out if there is a good reason to write 600 or 800 lines-long functions. For that purpose, I would like to find a tool that can extract a function from a .c file, so I can run some automated tests on the function. For example, If I have the function cifs_parse_mount_options() within the file connect.c, I'm seeking a solution that would roughly work like: extract /fs/cifs/connect.c cifs_parse_mount_options and return the 523 lines of code(!) of the function, from the opening braces to the closing braces. Of course, any way of manipulating existing software packages like gcc to do that, would be most helpful too. Thanks, Udi EDIT : The answers to Regex to pull out C function prototype declarations? convinced me that matching function declaration by regex is far from trivial.

  • Implement a server that receives and processes client request(cassandra as backend), Python or C++?

    - by Mickey Shine
I am planning to build an inverted index searching system with cassandra as its storage backend. But I need some guidances to build a highly efficient searching daemon server. I know a web server written in Python called tornado, my questions are: Is Python a good choice for developing such kind of app? Is Nginx(or Sphinx) a good example that I can look inside to learn its architecture to implement a highly efficient server? Anything else I should learn to do this? Thank you~

  • Universal syntax file format?

    - by Isaiah
Hey as a project to improve my programing skills I've begun programing a nice code editor in python to teach myself project management, version control, and gui programming. I was wanting to utilize syntax files made for other programs so I could have a large collection already. I was wondering if there was any kind of universal syntax file format much in the same sense as .odt files. I heard of one once in a forum, it had a website, but I can't remember it now. If not I may just try to use gedit syntax files or geany. thanks

  • Perl: How do I extract certain bits from a byte and then covert these bits to a hex value?

    - by Siegfried Hepp
I need to extract certain bits of a byte and covert the extract bits back to a hex value. Example (the value of the byte is 0xD2) : 76543210 bit position 11010010 is 0xD2 Bit 0-3 defines the channel which is 0010b is 0x2 Bit 4-5 defines the controller which is 01b is 0x1 Bit 6-7 defines the port which is 11b is 0x3 I somehow need to get from the byte is 0xD2 to channel is 0x2, controller is 0x1, port is 0x3 I googled allot and found the functions pack/unpack, vec and sprintf. But I'm scratching by head how to use the functions to achieve this. Any idea how to achieve this in Perl ?

  • How to grab the lines AFTER a matched line in python

    - by toofly
Hi All, I am an amateur using Python on and off for some time now. Sorry if this is a silly question, but I was wondering if anyone knew an easy way to grab a bunch of lines if the format in the input file is like this: " Heading 1 Line 1 Line 2 Line 3 Heading 2 Line 1 Line 2 Line 3 " I won't know how many lines are after each heading, but I want to grab them all. All I know is the name, or a regular expression pattern for the heading. The only way I know to read a file is the "for line in file:" way, but I don't know how to grab the lines AFTER the line I'm currently on. Hope this makes sense, and thanks for the help!

  • Sphinx - delimiters

    - by yoda
Hi, I would like to know if the Sphinx engine works with any delimiters (like commas and periods in normal MySQL). My question comes from the urge, not to use them at all, but to escape them or at least thay they don't enter in conflict when performing MATCH operations with FULLTEXT searches, since I have problems dealing with them in MySQL by default and I would prefer not to be forced to replace those delimiters by any other characters to provide a good set of results. Sorry if I'm saying something stupid, but I don't have experience with Sphinx or other complementary (?) search engines. To give you an example, if I perform a search with "Passat 2.0 TDI" MySQL by default would identify the period in this case as a delimiter and since the "2" and "0" are too short to be considered words by default, the results would be a bit messed up. Is it easy to handle with Sphinx (or other search engine)? I'm open to suggestions. This is for a large project, with probably more than 500.000 possible records (not trivial at all). Cheers!

  • How do I efficiently parse a CSV file in Perl?

    - by Mike
I'm working on a project that involves parsing a large csv formatted file in Perl and am looking to make things more efficient. My approach has been to split() the file by lines first, and then split() each line again by commas to get the fields. But this suboptimal since at least two passes on the data are required. (once to split by lines, then once again for each line). This is a very large file, so cutting processing in half would be a significant improvement to the entire application. My question is, what is the most time efficient means of parsing a large CSV file using only built in tools? note: Each line has a varying number of tokens, so we can't just ignore lines and split by commas only. Also we can assume fields will contain only alphanumeric ascii data (no special characters or other tricks). Also, i don't want to get into parallel processing, although it might work effectively. edit It can only involve built-in tools that ship with Perl 5.8. For bureaucratic reasons, I cannot use any third party modules (even if hosted on cpan) another edit Let's assume that our solution is only allowed to deal with the file data once it is entirely loaded into memory. yet another edit I just grasped how stupid this question is. Sorry for wasting your time. Voting to close.
