  • MacBook makes a noise from the power adapter every time I flip a widget...

    OK this is bizarre. But basically, what happens is on my MacBook (latest model) whenever I 'flip' a Dashboard Widget I hear a little noise for the duration of the flip: like a tiny continuous squeak noise. It's quite strange. However, it only ever happens when the MagSafe cable is plugged in. WHY?! :'( The noise appears to me emitted from the MagSafe area itself, but, there's not any other CoreAnimation or Quartzey bits that cause this to happen, it only happens with Dashboard widgets... The noise is very quiet and you can only hear it in a silent room. Edit: Running the latest Snow Leopard.

    Background: Virtual Private Server I have a virtual private server that I'm looking to host multiple websites on, and provide access to another web developer. I don't care about putting too many constraints on him, though I wouldn't mind isolating the site that he'll be developing from other sites on the server that I will develop. The problem: retain control Mainly what I want is to make sure that I retain control over the server in the future. I want to reserve the ability to create/promote/demote and other administrative functions that don't deal with web software. If I make him an admin, he can sudo su - and become root and remove root control from me, for example. I need him not to be able to: take away other admin permissions change the root password have control over other security/administrative functions I would like him to still be able to: install software (through apt-get) restart apache access mysql configure mysql/apache reboot edit web development configuration type files in /etc/ Other Standard Setups would be happily considered I've never really set up a good sudoers file, so simple example setups would be very useful, even if they're only somewhat similar to the settings that I'm hoping for above. Edit: I have not yet finalized permissions, standard, useful sudo setups are certainly an option, the lists above are more what I'm hoping I can do, I don't know that that setup can be done.

  • Is there a Hotmail Adapter for Outlook 2011 on Mac?

    Ironically, the ONLY email account I have that does not run on the new Outlook 2011 for Mac is my MSN account....totally mad but true...I have to run it in Mac Mail which autoconfigures the account no problem whereas Outlook 2011 does not and there seems to be no connector unless you are running a PC! Does anyone know if there is HOTMAIL/MSN connector for Outlook 2011 available anywhere or is there a way around it?

    Hi, I have a server that after the first configuration it was DHCP, now I have added it to our domain and in a static IP, however after a few moments it returns to DHCP but with only some of the IPv4 setting staying the same, It loses DNS for example.   • Why are there so few Wireless N Dual Band adapter PCI cards, only USB adapters instead?

    There has been several Wireless N Dual Band routers/APs out in the market for quite some time now, and there are several Wireless N Dual Band USB adapters out there. But as for PCI/PCI-X card adapters, there seems to be only one (the Linksys WMP600N). Why is that? I find it very strange. Is it because the USB adapters are easier to install, and can be used on multiple computers? But if so, why isn't it the same case with single band (2.4 Ghz) wireless N adapters? Because for these ones there as many PCI card adapters as there are USB adapters. Also, can the USB adapters, despite the lack of external antenna, offer the same level of performance as a card with external antennas?

  • How can I disable the beep when I plug in/unplug my laptop's AC adapter?

    My Packard-Bell laptop is emitting a loud, annoying beep when I connect or disconnect it to/from an AC power source. Whether I have headphones plugged in or not does not change anything; the sound goes out of the speakers and wakes everyone up. Do you know of any ways to eliminate this sound? I searched around the Internet and found a solution involving setting a specific volume bar to 0 in the playback settings, but I did not find it on my laptop. I am using Windows 7.

  • Upgrading HP DL185 G5 8LFF, is using a Dell J1520 4-Drop SATA Adapter possible?

    The HP DL185 G5 8LFF model supports 8 3.5" drives and 1 optical drive. However, instead of the optical drive, I'd like to have 2x 2.5" drives instead. The problem is that the PSU has no more SATA power cables (even though the motherboard has 4 additional SATA data ports). The PSU does have a free 10-pin connector and it looks like the J1520 cable from Dell would fit the bill. Link to cable description Does anyone have any experience using these cables? Are they safe? Any other ideas for adding the disks to the server if I don't use the cable? Thanks!

  • Can you use a DVI-VGA Adapter on a monitor instead of a video card?

    I suspect the answer to this is "no", but here goes: I have a monitor with inputs for DVI and VGA. I want to be able to share this display with two computers (one at a time, of course) that both have VGA only. I also have a DVI-VGA dongle that came with a video card that's in a different computer. Can I connect this dongle directly to the DVI port on the monitor so that I can connect both VGA computers? I'd rather not resort to a kvm.

    I'm using VSTS 2K8 and I've set up a Unit Test Project. In it, I have a test class with a method that does a simple assertion. I'm using an Excel 2007 spreadsheet as my data source.   • Winforms TabControl causing spurious Paint events for UserControl

    For our project, we've written a WinForms UserControl for graphing. We're seeing some strange behavior when our control is sited in a TabControl - our control continuously fires Paint events, even when there is absolutely no activity by the user. We only see this in the TabControl. When we site our control in other containers such as Forms or Splitters, Paint is only fired when you'd expect e.g. when the control is first displayed, etc. Can anyone suggest why this might be happening?   • Please help with 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name...

    My application works just fine until, in some unidentified conditions, it begins throwing this errors: When these errors start appearing, they appear in all over the application, no matter the code is built using ObjectDataSource or SqlDataSource. However, apparently, if the code uses some "classic", code-behind data-binding, that code does not throw errors (they do not show in the application event log), the page is displayed but it does not contain any data.... Please HELP tracking these very strange errors !!!!!!   • Control Panel display as a menu does not work upon initial install of a Windows 2008 R2 server

    I've seen this a couple of times now.  Upon initial installation of a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, the control panel is a button.  But if you go to the task bar property >> Start Menu tab >> Customize, you will see the option is "Display as a menu".  Click "Display as a link" and press OK, then come back to the same area and select "Display as a menu" will solve the problem.

    Brightness control doesn't work by default in Ubuntu 13.04. Solution for 12.10 doesn't work, also as this Any idea how to fix it? Update: After research I found how to change brightness manually. What need to do is to type in terminal: echo 2000 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness It will reduce brightness by half, but still would be good to find solution which will allow to use keyboard for changing brightness. Considering a virtual dedicated solution with vm for a web layer and a data layer, using VPN for each programmer. We're a small start-up that do both Microsoft and open-source development. Is there a set software tools or packages that are appropriate for a small shop and yet scalable? Thanks.
