• encfs error while decoding the data

  I have installed encfs and started using it to secure all my personal & office data and it was working absolutely fine until 2 hours back. The setup is like this. I have a folder in Copy folder called OfficeData which gets synchronized with my Copy folder When I login into the system I use the command encfs ~/Copy/OfficeData ~/Documents/OfficeData Once my work is over I dismount with the command fusermount -u ~/Documents/OfficeData All this data get synchronized with my desktop and with my mobile phone (as a backup) Today when I mounted, the folder got mounted by no directories and files present in that folder. I was worried and read man encfs which gave me to run the command encfs -v -f ~/Copy/OfficeData ~/Documents/OfficeData 2> encfs-OfficeData-report.txt. • Error trapping for a missing data source in a Spring MVC / Spring JDBC web app [migrated]

  I have written a web app that uses Spring MVC libraries and Spring JDBC to connect to an Oracle DB. (I don't use any ORM type libraries as I create stored procedures on Oracle that do my stuff and I'm quite happy with that.) I use a connection pool to Oracle managed by the Tomcat container The app generally works absolutely fine by the way! BUT... I noticed the other day when I tried to set up the app on another Tomcat instance that I had forgotten to configure the connection pool and obviously the app could not get hold of an org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource object, so it crashed. I define the pool params in the tomcat "context.conf" In my "web.xml" I have: <servlet> <servlet-name>appServlet</servlet-name> <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class> <init-param> <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name> <param-value>/WEB-INF/Spring/appServlet/servlet-context.xml</param-value> </init-param> <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>appServlet</servlet-name> <!-- Map *everything* to appServlet --> <url-pattern>/</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <resource-ref> <description>Oracle Datasource example</description> <res-ref-name>jdbc/ora1</res-ref-name> <res-type>org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> And I have a Spring "servlet-context.xml" where JNDI is used to map the data source object provided by the connection pool to a Spring bean with the ID of "dataSource": <jee:jndi-lookup id="dataSource" jndi-name="java:comp/env/jdbc/ora1" resource-ref="true" /> Here's the question: Where do I trap the case where the database cannot be accessed for whatever reason? I don't want the user to see a yard-and-a-half of Java stack trace in their browser, rather a nicer message that tells them there is a database problem etc. It seems that my app tries to configure the "dataSource" bean (in "servlet-context.xml") before any code has tested it can actually provide a dataSource object from the pool?! Maybe I'm not fully understanding exactly what is going on in these stages of the app firing up ... Thanks for any advice!

• Why aren't we all doing model driven development yet ?

  I am a true believer in Model Driven Development, I think it has the possibility to increase productivity, quality and predictability. When looking at MetaEdit the results are amazing. Mendix in the Netherlands is growing very very fast and has great results. I also know there are a lot of problems versioning of generators, templates and framework projects that just aren't right for model driven development (not enough repetition) higher risks (when the first project fails, you have less results than you would have with more traditional development) etc But still these problems seem solvable and the benefits should outweigh the effort needed. Question: What do you see as the biggest problems that make you not even consider model driven development ? I want to use these answers not just for my own understanding but also as a possible source for a series of internal articles I plan to write.

The deformer which was in the 3ds max's biped. ex: If I have 22 bones in the deformer's structure, I will draw 22 cylinders. But I was in trouble that I want to let these cylinders in the model. And then I refer to the example (XNA Club Simple Animation 4.0) for my program. But these cylinders are not in correct positions with the model. • Should a view and a model communicate or not?

  According to the wikipedia page for the MVC architecture, the view is free to be notified by the model, and is also free to query the model about its current state. However, according to Paul Hegarty's course on iOS 5 at Stanford, lecture 1, page 18 all interaction must go through the controller, with Model and View that are never supposed to know each other. It is not clear to me if Hegarty's statement must be intended as a simplification for the course, but I am tempted to say that he intends the design as such. How do you explain these two opposite points of view ?

• How do I handle a Controller that's not controlling a specific Model?

  I've got a nice MVC set up going but my website requires some views that don't map directly to a model. Specifically I've got some generic Reports users need to run, and now I'm creating a utility for comparing some system configurations. Right now the logic is crammed into a Reports Controller and I'm starting a Comparison Controller but this feels like a big abuse of the system. Both controllers use an assortment of different Models to pull data from, and they're only related based on what the user is doing. Reports are run from the Reports Controller and their views are all grouped together in the file system/URL structure. Is this an acceptable use of the Controller paradigm? I can't think of a better way to structure my Controllers, and making a Controller for each model I'm using to make reports/ect doesn't seem like a good idea; I'd end up with one Controller/Model/View per report or comparison, vastly complicating the apparent structure of my site.

• More Efficient Data Structure for Large Layered Tile Map

  It seems like the popular method is to break the map up into regions and load them as needed, my problem is that in my game there are many AI entities other than the player out performing actions in virtually all the regions of the map. Let's just say I have a 5000x5000 map, when I use a 2D array of byte's to render it my game uses around 17 MB of memory, as soon as I change that data structure to a my own defined MapCell class (which only contains a single field: byte terrain) my game's memory consumption rockets up to 400+ MB. I plan on adding layering, so an array of byte's won't cut it and I figure I'd need to add a List of some sort to the MapCell class to provide objects in the layers. I'm only rendering tiles that are on screen, but I need the rest of the map to be represented in memory since it is constantly used in Update. So my question is, how can I reduce the memory consumption of my map while still maintaining the above requirements? Thank you for your time! What I'm trying to do is setup a proxy on the colo side to have a 1 hour cache and relay the data to our primary server at the office. Our zabbix server is compiled from source and uses a mysql database I've followed the instructions found in the zabbix documentation to compile the proxy using a sqlite3 database. I add the proxy to zabbix under Administration-DM-Proxies. The zabbix server "sees" the proxy because the "last seen" field is always under 60s. However when I assign a colo host to the proxy I stop receiving data from it. The colo host's zabbix_agentd.log file says this: 29343:20100622:124847 Timeout while answering request 29343:20100622:124847 Getting list of active checks failed. Will retry after 60 seconds The zabbix_proxy.log says this. 2041:20100622:123131.760 Deleted 0 records from history [0.000994 seconds] 2028:20100622:124131.671 Error while receiving answer from server [ZBX_TCP_READ() failed I also am unable to receive any SNMP data which is more important to me than the zabbix agent data. • Cacti not working for SNMP data sources

I'm able to display common graphs in Cacti (such as memory usage, load average, logged in users, etc) using the data templates listed as Unix. Now I want to replace these graphs with new ones using SNMP data sources, because I see there is also CPU usage and because it's not excluded I have to manage multiple hosts in the future. So, I installed snmpd on the machine and left the snmpd.conf as it is. In Cacti, I created three new data sources from SNMP templates for 127.0.0.1 host: ucd/net - CPU Usage - Nice ucd/net - CPU Usage - System ucd/net - CPU Usage - User Then I created a new graph from template ucd/net - CPU Usage, and select the three data sources in the Graph Item Fields section. Graph is now enabled and running, but empty. No data have been collected. • Force database read to master if slave data is stale

  I previously asked a specific question about this database replication for new user signup to which I got an answer, but I want to ask this in the more general sense. I have a database setup in which I am using a master/slave combination. I am using the slaves for load balancing (the data itself is partitioned/sharded across multiple databases, but each database has X slaves for load balancing). Let's say I write some data to the master. Now I do a subsequent read which hits a slave, but the slave has not yet caught up to the master. Is there a way (which can be done quickly since it will happen frequently) to determine if the data is stale in the slave so I can then route to the master? In my previous question, it was suggested to do simultaneous writes to the cache and the database. This solution seems practical, but there is still a chance that the data may have been removed from the cache but not yet updated in the slave. A possible solution is to ensure the cache is big enough (based on the typical application load) so the data will not be evicted within the time frame it takes to replicate the data. This seems like it may be feasible. Can anyone provide additional insight into this question? Thanks!

• How to deduplicate 40TB of data?

  I've inherited a research cluster with ~40TB of data across three filesystems. The data stretches back almost 15 years, and there are most likely a good amount of duplicates as researchers copy each others data for different reasons and then just hang on to the copies. I know about de-duping tools like fdupes and rmlint. I'm trying to find one that will work on such a large dataset. I don't care if it takes weeks (or maybe even months) to crawl all the data - I'll probably throttle it anyway to go easy on the filesystems. But I need to find a tool that's either somehow super efficient with RAM, or can store all the intermediary data it needs in files rather than RAM. I'm assuming that my RAM (64GB) will be exhausted if I crawl through all this data as one set. I'm experimenting with fdupes now on a 900GB tree. It's 25% of the way through and RAM usage has been slowly creeping up the whole time, now it's at 700MB. Or, is there a way to direct a process to use disk-mapped RAM so there's much more available and it doesn't use system RAM? I'm running CentOS 6.

• Did chkdsk make it harder to restore files?

  My friend asked me to try and fix his loaded Sansa Clip + which wasn't playing. After opening it in MSC mode I discovered that the Music directory was empty and total of all files was only a few MB. However Disk properties showed me that it was 7Gb full. I then ran Tools - Error Checking and Windows dutifully informed me that disk was corrupt and I should run again Allowing Windows to Fix Errors. I did that and it told me everything was fixed and that all files were placed in FOUND.000 Dir. FOUND.000 was about 7.5 GB with FILE0000-1546 . CHK. (I am aware of methods like ChkBack to scan and convert to mp3 etc BUT Original filenames and structure needed!) Now I started getting worried that I made things worse! I have plenty of experience with Data Recovery Programs - Recuva, Restore My Files etc. and I was anyhow planning to use them to scan the drive. But NOW after CHKDSK "fixed" the drive maybe it modified critical FAT information vital for data recovery. So I run these programs and 0!!!. No trace of files! I tried a ton of Recovery Programs with same results TILL EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard found all files and I purchased program for $55! My Question In your opinion - did running CHKDSK with automatic fixing of errors make matters worse (i.e. many data recovery progs. didn't find a trace and they would have done if not for chkdsk) or was the filesystem too corrupt anyhow for regular File Recovery Progs.? If I would be a Professional - would I be responsible for running CHKDSK - automatic Fixing. Do you know of a better Data Recovery Program than EaseUs Data Recovery wizard - According to my experience I haven't found better!? Thanks

• How Does EoR Design Work with Multi-tiered Data Center Topology

  I just did a ton of reading about the different multi-tier network topology options as outlined by Cisco, and now that I'm looking at the physical options (End of Row (EoR) vs Top of Rack(ToR)), I find myself confused about how these fit into the logical constructs. With ToR it also maps 1:1: at the top of each rack there is a switch(es) that essentially act as the access layer. They connect via fiber to other switches, maybe chassis-based, that act as the aggregation layer, that then connect to the core layer. With EoR it seems that the servers are connecting directly to the aggregation layer, skipping the access layer all together, by plugging directly into what are typically chassis switches. In EoR then is the standard 3-tier model now a 2-tier model: the servers go to the chassis switch which goes straight to the core switch? The reason it matters to me is that my understanding was that the 3-tier model was more desirable due to less complexity. The agg switch pair acts as default gateway and does routing; if you use up all of your ports in your agg layer pair it's much more complicated to add additional switches, than simply adding more switches at the access layer. Are there other downsides to this layout? Does this 3-tier architecture still apply in some way in EoR? Thanks.

  Hi, I've been working on my iphone game recently and came across a forked road when deciding the design of my various classes. So far I've adhered to the MVC pattern but the following situation had me confused: I have 4 buttons displayed visually. Each button though consists of a container UIView (which I've subclassed) and 2 UIButtons (also subclassed) as subviews. When you press a button, it does the flip effect plus other stuff. The user input is using target-action from my container UIView to my controller. This part is ok, the following part is the debatable part: So I've subclassed the container view as well as the UIButtons and I need to add more data/methods (somewhere) to do more things. Putting data that needs to be serialized and non-rendering related code in the view classes seems to break the MVC design but at the moment, it makes the most sense to me to put it there. It's almost like my subclassed views are their own little MVC's and it seems neat. Separating out the data/methods from the view to my main controller in this case seems unnecessary and a more work. How should I be doing it? Thanks heaps.

So i successful to created and share to other user, when the user login which are being choose to share with the event, he is able to view for that particular event. But the problem is, when user add the event, he must choose for his own name also in the select box. If not he will be unable to read the event that he had created. • WCF: Exposed Object Model - stuck in a loop

  Hi I'm working on a pretty big WSSF project. I have a normal object model in the business layer. Eg a customer has an orders collection property, when this is accessed then it loads from the data layer (lazy loading). An order has a productCollection property etc etc.. Now the bit I'm finding tricky is exposing this via WCF. I want to export a collection of orders. The client app will also need information about the customers. Using the WSSF data contract designer I have set it up so that customers have a property called "order collection". This is fine if you have a customer object and would like to look at the orders but if you have an order object there is no customer property so it doesn't work going up the hierarchy. I've tried adding a customer property to the orders object but then the code gets stuck in a loop when it loads the data contracts up. This is because it doesn't load on demand like in the business layer. I need to load all properties up before the objects can be sent out via WCF. It ends up loading an order, then the customer for that order, then the orders for that customer, then the customer for that order etc etc... I'm sure I've got all this wrong. Help!!

• Overriding the save() method of a model that uses django-mptt

  I've been using django-mptt in my project for a while now, it's fabulous. Recently, I've found a need to override a model's save() method that uses mptt, and I'm getting an error when I try to save a new instance of that model: Exception Type: ValueError at /admin/scrivener/page/add/ Exception Value: Cannot use None as a query value I'm assuming that this is a result of the fact that the instance hasn't been stuck into a tree yet, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing this. I added a comment about it onto a similar issue on the project's tracker, but I was hoping that someone here might be able to put me on the right track faster. Here's the traceback. • MVVM: Binding radio buttons to a view model?

  I have been trying to bind a group of radio buttons to a view model using the IsChecked button. After reviewing other posts, it appears that the IsChecked property simply doesn't work. I have put together a short demo that reproduces the problem, which I have included below. Here is my question: Is there a straightforward and reliable way to bind radio buttons using MVVM? Thanks. Additional information: The IsChecked property doesn't work for two reasons: When a button is selected, the IsChecked properties of other buttons in the group don't get set to false. When a button is selected, its own IsChecked property does not get set after the first time the button is selected. I am guessing that the binding is getting trashed by WPF on the first click. Demo project: Here is the code and markup for a simple demo that reproduces the problem. A message box will appear, saying that Button A's IsChecked property has been set to true. Now select Button B. Another message box will appear, saying that Button B's IsChecked property has been set to true, but there is no message box indicating that Button A's IsChecked property has been set to false--the property hasn't been changed. Now click Button A again. The button will be selected in the window, but no message box will appear--the IsChecked property has not been changed. Finally, click on Button B again--same result. The IsChecked property is not updated at all for either button after the button is first clicked.
